I agree but the stick, the knife and the hands can be all deadly. The FMA Kali is designed to be effective with or without a weapon. A lot us in the Philippines back then train using the body hardening exercises to strengthen our bones, so that when we strike, our bones can withstand heavy blows.🤓

Basically, Arnis is just a form of Kali. While Tae Kwon do's aim is to defend yourself from attackers, the Kali's aim is to kill with brutal force. Your aim is to strike , not to just disarm your opponent (which is basic in tae kwon do). That is why Kali is never considered as sports, only Arnis (which is also included in basic curriculum subject PE). They are using Kali for military training tho. So it is still active in The Philippines. Not many Filipinos have access or knowledge on this martial arts as it is deadly and dangerous. You could imagine what could have been happening in the slums if every Filipinos know kali. But of course, it requires strict discipline. It may train a person's maximum tolerance.
Anyway, so nice to know that many people around the globe have interest on Kali.

Definitely, Kali is a deadly martial art & not for sport. It’s only fit for a person with strict discipline & high degree of self-control. A master of Kali won’t just teach anyone up to its highest level as it’s not for display but for delivering a quick kill. Character is first observed by a master in a potential student whether the student has what it takes to learn the art without abusing it or causing intentional harm.

Kali is just the most practical form of martial art in my opinion. You can use Kali in real life, like for self-defense. Many Special-Forces use Kali for hand-to-hand battle because it is so practical.
It is also possible that Karate adopted Kali because The imperial Japanese once colonized the Philippines and took some of that culture and incorporate them into their own culture.

Hubud sounds like Hu-Bu mean Guards Forms in Chinese. Very possible these Song soldiers continue training this deadly battle from of art on the island. Hoping one day they will return to their home fight off the invaders from the north. But they never return! Today there are approximately 1.35 million Filipinos with Chinese ancestry

I have met some of the Grandmasters of Filipino Martial Arts in Bacolod and Cebu and trained with some, they used Arnis or Eskrima. We've delved into the history of it, not the invented history of it because there are so many myths. The term Kali was popularized by Filipino Americans, in California like Dan Inosanto, they are decendants of filipino farmers who migrated there in the early 1900 who knew of some fighting system. In historical facts, the "Kali" term was never used. And here in Mindanao, the Moros have a Kalis, the Kris sword but they don't call the way they fight as Kali. I literally sent you a link where that is discussed by historians and antropologists who are also FMA practitionaires. Up to you to believe Dan Inosanto who never lived here or the ones who've lived here and developed the systems.
