    In Filipino, we call that ARNIS - divided that into 3 styles, arms close combat, Survival small arms Contact, 2 stick (yantok) defense/ offense, to us Filipino's it's an art, early of our High School days, we are thought of it, our cultural dance has a resemblance to it, with feet and arms, a training of balance and feet style.

    I'm surprised that you are surprised, do you think that our ancestors like Lapu-Lapu will just rely on stick fighting to kill oppressors? The art was made to kill using Bare Hands, Feet, Knives & Swords - as time passes Filipinos were able to come up with safer way to practice which is sticks

  • @honeybadger8413
    @honeybadger8413 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    kali=is a martial art for offense, not a defensive kind of martial art. Using jungle knife or jungle bolo to attack the enemy...sticks are just for training but in real combat Filipino soldiers are using jungle knives or jungle bolos to kill the enemies.

  • @JC0820

    Actually, here in the Philippines, it is called Kali; it was really the art of killing because it was really used in wars by our native warriors in the past, and even today, our soldiers and policemen use it. It is not just like other martial arts that can be adapted as sports, which is why it was secretly practiced and only a few were able to know about it because of the danger that comes with it. In the US, they converted it to FMA so it could be widely known and taught to anyone; they even portrait it there as the art of defense or disarming your opponent, but it is not; it was developed to easily kill your opponent, hence its fame now, especially in the movies. Because in the movies, the more realistic the fighting scene, the better it is for the audience.

  • @yanzm6713

    Foreigners can copy kali all they want, but in actual war they won't last vs Philippine Army and Marines who is using the art in actual combat. Learning the system is one thing but surviving long enough in a war to use it is another. ✌️

    • @Chris-v6b1n
      @Chris-v6b1n 29 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Most soldiers will also only have trained in the martial art and won't have used it in war. Unless, that is, Philippines is in a constant state of war?

    here's something that might make you think twice of the movie "300". recently, they found greek armor that was dated before Christ. Austronesians(our people that includes polynesians) have been on the islands of Southeast Asia for 6000 years before our Lord. It is being surmised that they had a Greek outpost in the Visayas and Mindinao way before any europeans attempted to colonize and influence the politics and religions of the land of our birth. the head pieces are reflective of the influence of our culture however with the symbol of a Gecko....most of the Greek recorded history throughout the world details conquest but in the case of the Southeast Asian archapaelgo we are not seen to be considered as such...we might have been considered similar to their Sparta city state in peoples and not to be trifled with. If you look at the Barong, it looks like a Xiphos, a Greek style sword if you think of it...so their lies more evidence of Greek influence.

    If you're going to research pre Hispanic Philippines the Filipinos are divided into different Kingdom ahey're in a civil war that's were the Kali was developed by each Tribes the FMA using Arnis Knife of Golok or itak or Manchete .. they're fierce warriors that even the Chinese empire fear , the Pintados from visayas uses to raid the coast of Southern China to get iron and Emperor soldiers can't do anything against because they kill , even Our warriors were exported from The war in Thailand to fight ., something happened when the Filipinos were baptised as Christians they set aside their warrior mentality and became good peaceful Catholics subservient to the Church.. im glad this ancient FMA is making a comeback in our culture

    Fun Fact:
    The 2021 Disney animated movie "Raya and the Last Dragon" which is loosely based and inspired from Southeast Asia, also included and have the Arnis/Kali/Eskrima/Escrima Filipino martial art and fighting style in it as one of the protagonist's armed martial art and fighting style.
    Aside from that, it also featured and included Pencak Silat as the protagonist's unarmed martial art and fighting style, Krabi-Krabong from Thailand as the protagonist's nemesis's armed martial art and fighting style, and Muay Thai from Thailand as the protagonist's nemesis's unarmed martial art and fighting style.
    The Disney animated movie also featured an imagined and fantasy or fictional sword, weapon, or blade that turns into a whip, and which can also be used for other uses and purposes throughout the animated movie. This weapon, sword, or blade is inspired and based from the Filipino "kris" or "kalis" and the Malay-Indonesian "keris". This is wielded and used in the animated movie by the protagonist and one of the other characters close to the protagonist.
