@@theguitarmanifesto I actually thought the Hohner was a Hoffner knockoff. My dad owned two Hoffners, back in the 80s. One was a sunburst Strat and the other was a bass guitar. Sadly, he sold them off before I learned to play guitars. They were never seen again. 😥
Hohner is a German company been making musical instruments since the mid 1800s, ah dang that's a shame would have been awesome if you still had them now. I always find these old guitars sound and play as good if not better than a lot of modern high end guitars.
@@theguitarmanifesto Thanks for the history lesson. Would be good if you include some history for any guitars in your upcoming videos. Either they play good or not, I want them on the wall, they're just prized collectibles. Keep the videos coming, Meat.
It's the SE501 made in 1987. It came in black and also tobacco burst. I own the tele SE609 which appears on the same page of the 1987 catalogue as your LP.
I have one of these, it’s probably earlier (around 1982, that’s the date on mine and it’s identical to this. It’s a semi-hollow plywood guitar, but make no mistake it’s the perfect weight and so comfy and slim to hold and play. Great modding potential overall, love mine
Ah awesome they really are great guitars, does your neck plate look different to the carved one? From what I have read the carved one is late 80s the plain ones are earlier
The Meat Manifesto mine is carved, but I’ve heard different things from different sources. There’s no serial number guide so these can be very obscure guitars x)
I remember them single coil in humbuckers they were also badged as other brands. They play nice too. There are some very high quality cheap guitars around from the 60s-80s era I will be showing more in the future as I find them. 😎🎸
Best guitar I've ever played. This is what I'd imagine a 1959 Les Paul Sunburst to sound and play like.. I'am so lucky to of been given one from my grandpa. Even better than my real Gibson Les Paul, it is the kind of guitar that will make you sound better than you are.
Ah mate that's so cool of your Grandpa to give you that, keep hold of it never sell it. It's a fine guitar plays as good as any Gibson Les Paul I've played
I don't because it means I've missed a deal haha looks and sounds mint tho, loving the belly cut, I've got a lp copy and it's just an awkward guitar for me to play, looks amazing but I just don't play it, agree on the other comments tho u do need an LP in your collection
There's enough good deals to go around 😂 like I say always worth regularly looking I've seen a few of these about under £100 is a very nice Les Paul best one I've played in a very long time. Some Les Pauls are very chunky and heavy
The Meat Manifesto I’m absolutely loving it. I haven’t played too much with it using my guitar but it’s a lot of fun on my bass. It’s gonna be hard to do anything other than play guitar for a while.
Very Nice, these were great guitars, the Japanese ones are getting very expensive here, the Korean ones were just as good but not pulling the same $ as they were cheaper to buy in the start, fucking great guitars though, the pickups were pure rock heaven if it's the same as the ones my mate used to have way back when god was a boy, they were quite popular here, you still see them now and again usually played to death.
Yeah it's one of the best Les Pauls I've played in a long time, feels and sound like a £500 plus guitar. The Japanese ones are the ones to get for hit big money here too, but for £60 why look at modern stuff ? I will do a full review video soon show how good she sounds 😎🎸
I'am still loving my guitar( guitar is on avatar). Just one problem with the pots not working properly, they just go round and round. Still an excellent fast necked LP copy that I love.
@@theguitarmanifesto I mean the volume pot, it is just not stopping at the max volume. Not to worry, I'll take it in to the luthier next week. But yeah, lovely guitar and it is kinda cool to own a guitar made in the 80's.
Freakin' Cool man! Looks very punk. Like something cobain would have played during their early days, it's even from the right years 1988/89. Exited for the review.
The action is pretty low on my one so there is a bit of rattle on some strings. I took it to a luthier and they said that there is nothing wrong and that to get a super low action like I have, there will be one rattles. Do you have any experience with this on your Hohner?
Very nice. I always think that guitars are like cars - total waste if you don't use them if you own them. Trouble is I have so many that using them all is a marathon effort on it's own and string changing is relentless (the 12 string is next :-( ). More of a Tele or Strat man myself but everyone should have one LP in their collection - at least that's my excuse.
@@theguitarmanifesto Do you know of good tuners that would fit this? Just got one, its a beaut. Do you also by any chance know if a standard lp bridge etc would fit on this? Cheers for the vid. I think this model was only made in 88 but could be wrong.
The Guitar Manifesto Thanks for the info. I’ll try changing it so. It’s a lovely guitar and plays and sounds better than the Epi Lp Plus Top Pro I had.
No worries, make sure you fully stretch your strings like till you strech them and they hold tune everytime, lot of people neglect this and blame it on the tuners
Gorgeous lawsuit guitar! I want one!
This one is a beaut sound and plays really good, keep an eye out for one they go really cheap

They are great guitars to have around.
Great find mate, that is a classy guitar 👍
She is a beaut full review video coming soon
I can confirm the date of the Hohner Arbor as I have one exactly the same that I bought new for my 19th birthday in February 1988.
Really good rock n roll guitar
Yeah totally agree this one feels like a very high end guitar 😎🎸

Pristine!

That Satellite would make a great slide guitar !
There is that ✔️

They are great guitars for sure, replace the pots with some 500k cts pots, will really make them humbuckers sing

@@graeme4074 yeah I get ya, just replace all the pots while the volume needs replacing
@@theguitarmanifesto So you can get new pots for the 2 tone and 2 volumes and it will improve tone? Roughly how much is it for that mod?
oh it's called a knob, not a pot... I see, anyways it needs replacing

Yeah I'm digging it different from a traditional Les Paul, yes totally agree got the Nirvana vibe and the right era 🎸😎

I suggest getting a second opinion I set this one very low no issues at all
Nice Lp indeed, did not know that Hohner did build these..beleived that Hohner was a Germam brand?
Yeah they make some great guitars, yes they are a German company

Yeah I agree guitars are made to be played, shame this has been barely played in 30 years on the flip side nice to see it in such good condition.
And yes as you know I like my offsets and Teles a LP is a must for sure

Korea
oh you said Korean, my bad
it's cool :)
Do you like kurt Cobains Mosrite guitar ???
Yeah they are awesome guitars getting expensive now
Good guitar at a good price. Probably made at the Samik factory.
Great guitar, yeah I'm guessing they could be that's my next point of research 😎🎸
