I'm currently refurbishing a Hohner Rockwood LX250. They are a laminated body to answer your question but they have what appears to be a maple top (about 3 or 4 mm thick). Been a gigging guitar for me since the late 90's, pretty bullet proof and worth while to upgrade the hardware and pups just to see her through the next 20 or so years.

I got one of these for my 15th birthday in 1995. It was about £150 from Argos, and to this day I still have it and it still sounds great. I'd never part with it despite owning much better guitars these days. It is the one that holds the most sentimental value to me.

Hi Iain, thanks for the comment. I'm an advocate of no gear snobbery too, if a guitar is good to play, job done no matter the brand. Nice that you still have one you got all those years ago as well.

Cool, I got mine Xmas 95 when I was 15, still have mine too... didn't realise all these years but a lot of people from reviews I've seen rate them over ephiphones.

This was my first guitar ~25 years ago! Sold it to my buddy whose son is now learning on it.

I've had one of these for over 20 years gigged, in the studio and as a spare, a really great all round guitar, so it now needs some renovation. Can Mike or anyone suggest a replacement switch, set of pots, input jack and tuners that would fit the job or do for an upgrade? Cheers Richie

Thanks for your demo. It convinced me to go and buy the LX 250 G. In Beautiful Black.

Hi There, Thanks for the comment. I don't have this one any more. In the UK I think you can find them for maybe £150 to £200 GBP, maybe less if lucky. Cheers!

i have only been playing for 5 years when i was 55 . in your opinion does it compare to any the epiphones . Thanks Neal

Hi Neal, thanks for the message. I'd say the archtop is probably better quality on a modern Epihone, but the pickups in the Rockwood have a better sound than the stock epiphones. That said, it really depends what you play through. A good valve Amp will show the limitations of pickups, but modern modelling amps can still make a budget guitar sound geat.
Vintage JHS also make some great Les Paul's which can be had for a reasonable price.
      Happy playing 😊👍

just had a look at the electrics in the larger cavity . There Is a spare wire . Is it a grounding wire . It looked as if it was connected to a retaining screw for the panel . Any advise would be appreciated .

Hi Neal, thanks for the comment. Sounds like that will be a ground wire. Often there is a little routing cavity and they go through and connect to the brige.
