Finally!!! A solid review. Looks beautiful!
Hope you like it!
Awesome, can’t wait for the review! 🔥
This was very helpful thanks!!
I would like to hear about your settings. I am having trouble finding settings that are accurate and beautiful. It's been set up for about a day and I'm rethinking that the special matte Samsung coating was "good enough" versus glossy. Also, are you using Ambient lighting? I have it off now, but yesterday, I'm not sure if it was certain settings or the ambient "Core" lighting on the back of the monitor, but I found a substantial amount of heat coming out and off of this thing. Reminded me of my plasma TV that I just replaced and a lot more heat was coming from the Samsung G80SD than the large LG OLED TV that replaced the plasma! Last initial thoughts: there is more plastic on this thing than I thought. One reason I purchased it was due to the metal construction. It is actually thicker than I thought too. Replacing a Dell Ultrasharp, which yes, was thicker, made me realize this monitor isn't as thin as I expected.
Yes please share your settings 👍🏻
Did you manage to compare the OLED screens on the market? I just now want to order such a screen. and debating between Asus and Samsung, thanks
i wonder if its possible to forcefully remove the silver edges without damaging or maybe paint them super deep black
Honestly they don't bother me but I guess you can use a sharpie 😅
Dealbreaker for me :D
what are your settings
Great Video, Can you help me with length size of the stand? Currently i own a Neo G8 i want to sell it as the stand is too big for my desk as well i hate curved monitor
I got the same deal on Amazon, and it’s amazing! 🔥🔥🔥
Is the card for anything on Amazon? I was confused cause it says kindle
@@yogi05lc Yup, for anything on Amazon! Def worth it!
@@yogi05lc I don't think there is such a thing as a "kindle only" card. The kindle written on it is just the "greeting theme" of the card but you can use for anything.
Estoy interesado en comprar este monitor pero tengo dudas por el tema de la garantía de Samsung con el burn it debería arriesgarme o esperar a que aclaren eso?
Joel, would you mind sharing your gaming PC's specs.
thanks very useful! how do I connect a headphone to this thing? I know I can connect to PC, but I want all my devices including the tv to output to one headphone
seems like we can't.
I was going to buy this but I'm using three system with my monitor and I need to connect my speakers.
I don't think included 10w speakers are going to be good.
@@Whiteshade i got the monitor and connected my headphones with a usb to 3.5 mm dongle from soundblaster. works great, but has to switch over if youre using 2 inputs so not as easy as 3.5mm headphone
When using the Smart TV apps (Netflix, Prime, etc.), how is the audio output? Is it only through the built in speakers? Is there any way to "route" the audio to a standalone DAC AMP or to the connected PC and then out to DAC AMP / PC speakers?
same question. will be useless if i cant connect it to proper speakers/headphones via a proper DAC thats already on my PC.
One of the hdmi ports has arc support so you can hook it up to your soundbar/receiver if it has hdmi input. Not sure which formats are supported. Furthermore it has has bluetooth 5.2 amd wifi for wireless display capabilities so pretty sure you can hook up bluetooth headphones. Maybe Joelster can verify?.. this thing is basically a smart ....monitor...or ...tv...without the tv part..or something. 😅
So, as hab mentioned, yes there is ARC on HDMI port 1, so, if that works for you, you can route sound out to the receiver. Also, Bluetooth headphones are an option for the monitor. It is a "smart TV" (much to my chagrin). Actually, it seems like it wants to pair with everything it can. It looks like I can pair external Bluetooth speakers or something like an Alexa voice assistant (unless I'm misunderstanding the option and it's a voice assistant built only into the monitor? I do not think so, though.) You can pair a keyboard and mouse to it as well, no computer needed. The audio out of the monitor also has an "AI sound processing" thingie which sounds like it's Automatic EQ, but less sophisticated than what receivers can do.
Oh, right, and if on the network, it looks like you can send video from other devices like a phone. I'm not certain if it needs to be a Samsung phone. Looks like they're trying to do something like Apple does. Another point of note, but you can calibrate the monitor certain Samsung and Apple phones too. Which reminds me that I need to try that as I'm not finding good settings.
the monitor has speakers or you can connect a Bluetooth speaker or a receiver with HDMI
@@msg360 yea and it has speakers and you can connect a receiver, right?
I'm wondering how the brightness (in SDR) compares to a 42 inch LG C series TV, appreciated if you could give your impression!
I’d like to know this as well. I’m in the same boat .
I have the LG G3 with LG's MLA layer and my god, is that thing bright. My plasma was nowhere near this bright (and I realize now still a beautiful picture just as Digital Trends claimed), but the Samsung is also not nearly as bright as the LG. Still, the brightness it can reach, in SDR, seems sufficient for a monitor. I'm afraid I've never seen the C series. The Samsung is also brighter than the last OLED generation (I returned the 34" Alienware ultrawide screen OLED from 2022/2023).
@@theextraordinarypants4909 Looking specifically at 42 inches for desktop usage and unfortunately the G series doesn't have that size.
I love my G80SD. Fantastic monitor!!!! Fast and snappy OS but it's a bit convoluted and bloated for my tastes. That's probably the only negative.. but, I love the actual smart features (I didn't buy the monitor for them, but now that I have them I actually love it). Switching between console and PC, HDR turning on/off on its own, fantastic image... good for producvity as well. Love being able to control my monitor with my phone. Speakers are loud.. I can easily play PS5 through its speakers, but keep my PC audio playing through my PC speakers and watch on second monitor.. so I can watch and listen to two sources as once, etc.. Plus they gave me a free $300 to buy this monitor lol
only issue is the warranty doesn't cover burn-in. So it's a risk, but if you're willing to take it, a beautiful monitor.
With that 300 you can buy an astro a50 x, audeze maxwell, sonos ace, sonos beam gen2 or or pc speakers at reduced price. That was my plan if I would buy them during that offer.
@@occasus7964 Yeah, I know that's the one iffy area. I haven't used my $300 gift card yet but I'm considering using a portion of that to buy a third party warranty from Geek Squad or something. That could also be an effective strategy, although it def feels a bit lame to spend the gift card for a better warranty than Samsung's.. We don't know if Samsung's new burn-in protection tech will make a difference, but all I can do right now is hope for the best that they solved burn-in lol Here's hoping
Hello mate this monitor is covered with 3 years screen burning warranty?
Have you had any connectivity issues with the GPU? I first used the DP cable it feels like it doesn't fully insert in. The screen turned completely black 3 times in PC mode and would have wierd flicker in smart TV mode before unplugging and replugging each time. I switched last night to HDMI to see if it fixes it but I am now second guessing and considering a return for another display on the market. Please share your setting.
Some of the cables do not insert flush to the back of the monitor. I was surprised too: enough that I kept reconnecting ones like the power cable. I have only tried HDMI with the cable included (due to the higher bandwidth over HDMI 2.1 versus DP 1.4 although I now see there is no refresh setting available between 120hz and 240hz and you NEED to be in "game mode" to do 240hz for some reason). I am not getting flickers and black screens outside of going to standby or shutting off.
since i use oled i cant back to IPS or Va because it dont feel right, when u watch movie or youtube oled give true black,IPS or Va it look grey and make my eyes tired.
How does Samsung Dex work with it assuming youve tried it?
please share your settings as well.
Yes please share settings.
thanks!
okay, so I bought this after watching 2-3 reviews. The main reason is that I am using 2 Samsung monitors already and that's why I entrusted to go with this. Amazing Monitor, after using various monitors with same specifications I can say that its better than asus rog swift and MSI. But can't say about it when it comes to Lg. they both are quite similar. Pairing this with my gaming setup doesn't disappointed me. And when playing in 4k 240 hz, its like best picture quality, buttery smooth.
sorry but what was the last game shown in the video?
What game are you playing at 6:18? does the monitor have any motion smoothing capabilities like a Samsung OLED TV?
Interesting too
@@genniy1681 I think it's Shadow Warrior 2
Pls compare with the c4

Will miss the brightness but oled is great

Dude please let me know your opinion on the coating compared to glossy and LG's matte ones. Thank you.
This coating is great IMO. I don’t notice a coating grain at all and handles reflections well. I personally hate LG’s matte coating. The grain is way to heavy
@@Cubs0209 yea i have the monitor too and this coating is insane, cant tell at all and it doesnt affect the black levels at all, super super inky blacks
@@Cubs0209 Thank you. If this monitor had a glossy coating I would place the order right when I could. But it's a bit matte so I got me worried. But if you said so then I guess it's really not that bad. Have you had any other problems with it so far? Like the software, flicker,... anything?
@@dung123456nd nope nothing! I was concerned about matte too but with this coating you don’t get the purple screen effect and there is almost zero coating grain so it’s great
@@Cubs0209 Have you tried the new 32-inch 4k LG? It has a better coating than the previous 27-inch 1440p model.

worth upgrade if i have a odissey neo g7?
I have the G8 which is similar, yes I think is an upgrade, it has no blooming, much better viweing angles, less glare, better black levels and colors, it is not as bright but it is bright enough, it has built-in speakers, and the remote with smart features, I love the remote, so yes I think is an upgrade.
@@JoelsterG4k ty man!
VA is garbo, the worst OLED panel would be a huge upgrade.
@@JoelsterG4k i feel the same way about the specs
Very awesome I'm torn between this or a bigger 42 inch LG C3 :)
If you wanna play mouse and keyboard, get the monitor. If you just sit back with a controller, go c3.
The real scene hdr brightness on these new monitors is lacking especially compared with their qd oled tv counterparts. I’ll be waiting for next years models myself or stick with mini led
More ppi more heat and heat is the enemy for oleds
just if anyone is woundering if u dont use the display port provided it will put 3 pink zeros on ur monitor if u plug it into pc... this monitor is awesome and i love it
saludos el canal de español q paso para cuando asus y lg de 32 nuevos modelos ya los tv no son la opción ahora
Do you get Burn In coverage included in the warranty with Samsung g8?
There is a 3 year warranty but I dont know if that covers burn in, you should check that on Samsung's website.
1 year
@@JoelsterG4k it doesn't cover burn-in, sadly. It covers generic parts.
I just ordered this monitor with a galaxy watch 6 44mm. I paid $853 Canadian for the monitor and $207 for the watch. Too good of a deal to pass up
I didn’t watch it yet. I am watching now. But the first questions that are on my mind:
Does it have Dolby vision support?
Is the coating really hybrid?
I was waiting on this before deciding what to buy. The Alienware aw3225qf which costs 1300 euro in Europe. While the g8 costs 1600 in Europe. Sure these will drop in price after an couple of months already.
I first thought about the glossy one as an no brainer. But I actually have a lot of sun light in my master bedroom/office. So I can wait till It is dark. But it would be nice to see if you can can use this one in sunlight
Wait: you mention earc support????
So this means I can use my sonos arc? Because the Alienware is the only one that has this at the moment.
its samsung so no dolby vision. they make HDR10+. Coating really is nice, it doesnt affect the colors at all, still super inky blacks and reflections are almost non existent. Idk how they did it but they did it. Also the screen doesnt look purple in bright environments, whatever this coating is seems to have solved almost every QD-OLED problem
@@gewdvibesThanks. Wel earc for sonos support or the comparison videos with lg 32gs95ue or Alienware aw3225qf would be perfect to see the actual difference. If they at least show them in light conditions. It’s ultra thin. But no Dolby vision is an little dealbreaker if this one costs 1600. Hope to see some 27 inch versions with 4k qd oled in mid 2025. That being said. I think if you have one of these top 3 monitors. That you will not be disappointed. It’s an luxury problem I guess.
@@michaelgentcity6386 Not a lot of games with Dolby Vision (although, perhaps you plan to watch Dolby Vision media content?), so you'll be fine until you upgrade the monitor at which point Dolby Vision will likely be on all of them. Samsung has lost the HDR10+ versus Dolby Vision war that they started, but they don't seem to know it yet. Checking the specifications, it does have HDR10+ gaming, which honestly matters little considering the 0-3 games with HDR10+. There is some content in HDR10+ as I saw it on Apple TV+.
Also using the Native Monitor Apps, will give you better resolution and HDR support without using Windows HDR settings. Which everyone knows is not accurate.
Does it not come with a vesa bracket for mounting
It doesn't need an adapter for vesa mount.
When mine is off it is not totally black like you say, it is more like gray, it is not black like the bezel. Is yours like that?
That's how it is because of the matte screen and ambient light.
@@JoelsterG4k ok thanks
wow thats nutz !
wow that's useful!

Well, that is quite amusing.
How do I enable 240hz? The nvidia control panel only lets me select 120hz. I'm using an RTX 4090 connected using the displayport cable. I also have a 4k 160hz display cnnected through displayport.
You need a 1.4 cable, you may have a 1.2 which is why you can't fully utilise?
@@ChaosBG_ I actually figured it out, you have to have it in game mode otherwise you can only use 120hz max. Now it's looking amazing! Love the HDR on this thing, but the menus and smart functions are really confusing.
@neverenoughguitars8276 glad you got there! I'm taking a risk where I have ordered this monitor but will be on a 3070ti so hope I still get some decent frames?!
@@ChaosBG_ It'll look great, but you'll need to use some agressive DLSS to get good framerates at 4k with a 3070ti.
No power delivery through usb-c?
It doesn’t have usb c
Is this monitor flicker free, and how does the g sync feel? Cause the g60 has no g sync is it still compatible
if by flicker you mean VRR flicker then no but as long as your frame times are stable it really shouldnt be a big problem. I've only seen it a couple times and it was in specific games in specific locations. If you play a really stuttery game and it has a lot of dark scenes thats like worst case scenario
If you are worried about VRR flickering, don't buy a QD-OLED screen.
@@User-ys7cb and what about W-OLED?
@@Jonasdeke It is much less pronounced, but still there. I don't think there is an OLED screen that has absolutely no flickering.
@@User-ys7cb and what about an IPS? I was looking for the asus rog swift 360hz IPS its expensive but its not an oled and people tell me I should get oled
That smart feature is a double edged sword. The OS is so unstable, it keeps changing the color profile on my Samsung M8. I hope it's better on G8.
Is that it? I thought i was going crazy, yes the color profile changes all the time, 😅
@@JoelsterG4k From what I heard, it was impossible to put on an OS like that because a monitor doesn’t have a proper system. But the genius Samsung engineers did it anyway by going multiple hoofs and tricks and rewriting codes. The result? They did it without spending another $40 in hardware, but it became an engineering nightmare that every Samsung engineers are aware of the problems, but they just can’t fix it.
I'm hearing two other reports saying that the ports on the back where loose when you push them in was this the case on yours
The ports are fine, I have no issues with them.
@@JoelsterG4kthe ports are not very solid, they are not secured to the frame very well. My power plug does not seem to go in all the way, there is like half a centimetre exposed metal of the power plug. I'm too too scared to push it in anymore because of the ports not being very secured to frame.
I was wondering if the monitor is able to be attached to a monitor arm?
I do not think so? It clips in with Samsung's stand in a certain way that I do not think is standardized. Perhaps there are arms with compatibility?
@@theextraordinarypants4909 i was able to mount it, just had to buy the screws separately
Black levels in brighter rooms are a QD-OLED issue since they lack a polarizing layer. Not an issue with the LG 32GS95UE even with its matte coating. Solid review though

So what made you choose this particular monitor? And not the LG competitor for example? Asking for a friend (ohh wait, that's me 🙂)
I’m stuck between the same two. I already have the 45. Ultra wide and it’s amazing. I may try this one because of the smart features but I don’t like that I can hook my soundbar to it.
@@miltona891 I'm using a 4K IPS screen now, but it's only 60Hz while i play shooters. So it can use an upgrade. Was also looking at Mini LED which is not bad either, but it's about the same price as OLED. I'm more of an LG guy, am not a fan of Samsung firmware / software. But i hate that the LG screen has a fan, and i do like the Samsung design more i think. The Samsung has a remote and the LG not if i am correct, it's al pro's and con's against each other, very difficult. The LG can go brighter in some scenes, red that the coating on the Samsung is a tiny bit better.. etc.

Also found 2 other pro / cons: The Samsung has a separate power brick where the LG has a build in one, and the LG has no remote where the Samsung has one included (i do prefer the remote).
