    I didn't upgrade to Sonoma, just to Catalina. After updating Open Core patcher and "rooting", my progress bar would get stuck at around 15%-20%. Your procedure worked flawlessly. Thank you so much!

    I have to say, between you and Mr. Mac, I give you guys a 10 out of 10 for knowledge and know-how. When a new ver of everything comes out I usually go ahead with the upgrade even if it trashes my system. I actually enjoy going through the repair procedure. cd "/Volumes/Macintosh HD/Library/Extensions" && ls | grep -v "HighPoint*\|SoftRAID*" | xargs rm -rf

    First of all, I want to thank you. I'm hardly a tech guy but your videos have helped me massively with updating my old macs including my 2010 Mac Pro 5,1 cheesgrater and all has been working well until last week with the Mac Pro. I saw this video months ago and then had this problem happen after a PRAM reset last week and it's been driving me nuts. Here's what happened:
    The problem started after I was prompted to install OCLP update 1.4.3 (from 1.4.1). It wouldn't start up so I reset the PRAM. Then I got the “no entry sign” on my OCLP Monterey 12.7.3 drive (NVMe) so I switched out my RX580 for the mac 5770 graphics card [so I could use the option key] and I removed all hard drives and connections. I did all the steps in this video and all seemed to be going well until it restarted. The progress bar appeared for a second and then said 'your computer restarted because of a problem. Press a key or wait a few seconds to continue starting up” and then it showed a progress bar but not moving. I shut it down after a few min, tried again and I got a gray screen with a flashing “?" (and shut itself off). Then I rebooted again holding option and selected EFI and I got the "your computer restarted because of a problem. Press a key or wait a few seconds to continue starting up." error again. Holding Shfit would not let it boot into Safe Mode either. Sounds like a Mac kernel panic issue like you said here, but I cannot find the KDK version for Monterey on GitHub to do the manual install.
    Maybe the EFI is corrupted? Maybe it’s an NVMe issue and I should try the repair on the backup SSD in a sled on bay 1 (although everything was working perfectly with the NVMe on a sonnet pci-e card)? I use this computer for music production and was able to go back and use Mojave (NVMe on sonnet card) for now to transfer old sessions to my laptop but I really love using Monterey on the Mac Pro because it has been very fast and stable and I can use the latest plugins and programs.
    Any advice on what I should do to fix this? I’ll keep searching through your video library for an answer. Thank you! 🙏🏼

    • @JessiesFlying
      @JessiesFlying  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi, NVMe might be the issue, I recommend having a small SSD with Monterey for backup reasons… but for the future there’s no need to update OCLP when still running Monterey - the new versions are meant for Sonoma updates

    • @loslobosjr
      @loslobosjr 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@JessiesFlying Hi Jessie, thanks for the quick response. I took your advice and tried everything using the SSD this time, after doing the terminal I get the same results on restart, same "your computer restarted because of a problem. Press a key or wait a few seconds to continue starting up" error and then Apple logo with progress bar that does nothing, just freezes. As far as the 1.4.3 update, it keeps popping up which is why I went ahead to do that update. Is there a way to turn off those notifications if I can get this running again? I'm not sure if I can get this to work since I cannot seem to get neither nvme or ssd to start up. I've been searching for answers online for days and if you're not sure, sadly, it might be time to get a new computer. Thanks again for all your videos and advice! 🙏🏼

    Firstly, thanks for the video. These kind of videos explaining things are invaluable.
    My issue, the latest OCLP 1.3.0, made my previously working MacBook Air on Venture (OPLC 1.2.1) hang on the progress bar, never finishing to boot.
    I could get into it Mac again with booting from Ventura install, and opening terminal.
    If I delete the kexts in /Volume//Library/Extensions (apart from Raid and HighPoint ones), I can get it to boot without root patches.
    I then re-downloaded the OCLP 1.2.1, and re-applied the patches. Still hangs on boot progress bar.
    So then tried your KDK download for 13.3.1 and re-applied root patch. Still hangs on boot progress bar. (I have internet access via wifi even without root patch btw).
    I cannot boot safe mode (holding shift), hangs in same place.
    So it seems that 1.3.0 OCLP breaks something, which I am sure will impact many others quickly.
    Still working on fixing it myself somehow, but looks like you may need to prep another video soon!!
    Any tips welcome.

    8:13 I have multiple users on the iMac 5K 2017 and selectively boot from the Fusion drive for Sonoma 14.0 on EFI OCLP 1.0.1, or external T7 SSD for Sonoma 14.1. The Sonoma 14.1 on EFI OCLP 1.1.0 has not been stable after boot up, sometimes, it just stuck and t 8:13 he cursor didn’t move (with or without lightning cable), and/or the keyboard LED didn’t respond, a power button restart would be needed. A réinstallation of OCLP from the Installer or from the internal Fusion drive can solve the problem while burning my life for another half-an-hour. Eventually, it looks stabilised but every cold boot takes at least 15~20 minutes to successful logged-in to a user with admin rights. It’s so unstable and I’m not sure the imac will work after the next power off. So, I’ve decided to wait for OCLP 1.1.x or 1.2.x for Sonoma 14.1.x for other unsupported Macs.😅

    To the guys that have problems installing the root patches with Open Legacy Core, you don't install the latest version of OpenLegacy Core if your model is not mentioned, because it causes stuck on boot. Follow the suggestion of Jessie when he talks about install KDK of your version. After that, install the previous version of OpenLegacy Core (the correct for me was 1.2.0), and root patch again. It will work again.
    We need to wait the next version of OpenLegacy Core when it will be compatible for our model. Then we can install the MacOs update. Hope it helps.

    Hello, I’m experiencing some issues with my MacBook Pro (Early 2015, 13-inch) running Sonoma 14.3.1. Here’s what’s happening:
    I need to press Option + R to access the screen where I can view the EFI and SSD.
    To access the Sonoma Recovery, I have to press CTRL + Space.
    I follow the provided steps until I need to restart the system.
    Upon restarting, I press the Option key to view the icon.
    However, my MacBook only starts up to one-third of the way on the progress bar and then hangs.
    Unfortunately, these steps aren’t working for me. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Jessie: just found your channel! Great vids! So, if you maybe looking for video topics… I have a MacPro 3,1 running DosDude1 Catalina. I’m thinking to move to OpenCore and a newer OS. So one video of interest would be exploring just how old one can go with OpenCore. But another question and idea relates to getting many multi monitors working on an old MacPro. One of the reasons I bought this MacPro back in the day was the advertisement that it could host up to 8 monitors with the then decent ATI Radion cards that came with it. 4 cards, 2 DVI ports each 4 PCI slots, 8 monitors. My question is how to do that today with a new OS in these old MacPros. I have a GTX680 that has 2 DVI, 1 HDMI, 1 Display Port. In my DosDude1 Catalina 3,1 MacPro I have not been able to more than 1 DVI and 1 HDMI working. Nothing I do seems to bring either the 2nd DVI or the Display Port to life (even if I don’t connect the first DVI or HDMI). Maybe those two latter 2 ports are broken? I have no way to tell. Are the PCI slots limited to 2 monitors? Reason I ask is that one of the Apple approved Metal cards is a single width board with 4 ports (don’t recall which kind they are, maybe Display Port), but if the PCI slot only allows 2 monitors, that would not help. So bottom line, the idea for the video would be how to connect 8 monitors up to an old Mac Pro with a new OS using OpenCore. ;-). Thanks!

      @JessiesFlying  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi, that’s a quite special topic and depends heavy on the graphic cards and the reimplementation of the old drivers into the macOS. Maybe ask on Discord if anyone has tested something like that already?

    Crazy thing is that the very same thing happened to my fully supported MBP 16 M1 Pro…updated from 13.6.0 to 13.6.1 and boom!….bricked. You need another Mac (that I didn’t have) to revive the SMC and have the Recovery partition re-installed from another Mac with Apple Configurator open (Genius Bar stuff)….basically…wiping the old partition schema and re-initialising my Mac. Hence, you have more options on a Hackintosh and unsupported Macs rather than a fully supported Mac! That’s been too much even for an Apple fanboy like me: I’ve traded-in my Mac, got some good cash for future iPhone upgrades and now I’m finally out of this madness. Linux forever.

    I gave up. A recent update had my main work laptop stuck for the weekend. I then tried recovering everything thru time machine. That didn't work. So I erased everything and stated fresh with ventura which is the latest OS my laptop supports. I did love Sonoma but I dont want to walk on eggshells on my work stations. I'll just use the last compatible Ones from now on and avoid the hellish three days of frustration I just went thru installing everything again that I need for work. If I was as knowledgeable as some of these dudes here on TH-cam and was absolutely sure I could get myself out of every hiccup with every update I would definitely continue running unsupported. But this past weekend has just proved to me the importance of ONLY running unsupported Ones on machines that are NOT mission critical!!

Althought I got my iMac 2011 "27 running now, I decided to install Monterey because it was working great before I updated it to Sonoma which works temporarily good. The problem I'm facing is that once OCLP 1.5 & Latest Monterey are installed, I am not being able to boot into the iMac after I root patch using an Ethernet. hey there, when i get to the stage where i input the text into the terminal to bless the mount, i get the message “volume could not be mounted: No such file or directory /sbin/mount_apfs returned non-0 exit status Couldn’t bless the APFS pre boot volume for volume mounted at /Volumes/Mac HD: No such process”. I have checked that the commands i entered are the ones in your video with my own directory and they definitely are. What can I do?

      Did you check for the correct name of the drive or are there different names?

    Hey Jessie. Can I remove my SSD from my 5,1 Mac Pro, mount it as an external USB to my MacBook and bless the 5,1 SSD from there?

      @@adamhutton4165 that should be possible, but I never tried that before

      My MacPro 2012 runs great with 14.0 - I'm still testing 14.1.... but Sonoma is way better than Ventura in my opinion

      Are you sure OpenCore was configured correctly for your Mac model?

    thank you for the video! Question: for every update, it seems that a manual udpate and download of the corresponding KDK is a must. However which should be done first, download to one's computer the KDK or the apple software update? THANKS!

    • @JessiesFlying
      @JessiesFlying  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      When you download the update the legacy player should download appropriate KDK automatically if needed. After every update another root patch is necessary and then the (maybe) needed KDK is already installed

      Seems like the snapshot is corrupt… maybe need a fresh install

    I'm on 1.2.0 and I left the installer running after the KDK downloader started, but I think there must have been an error downloading the KDK, the install of 14.1.1 went fine, but then I stupidly ran the post install with 14.0 KDK. I'm on a 16,1 iMac, and recovery isnt even booting. I've tried creating a boot disk on another Mac and I can get to terminal in order to try the blessing of the hard drive but I'm just greeted with a blank screen again. Safe mode doesn't seem to work. I've even tried re-installing but I get an error -69716 Storage system verify or repair failed. Very stuck.
