Very good work! For sure what IS inside a stringer does not mater, even if IS air inside! The core inside IS just for the shape, shape IS just the force and strence. Many many boat with more than 20 years have the playwood wet, and nothing happen! Nice video!
It's been a lot of work Dave and still more work to complete it. You and Mark have put a lot of hours into it, but it will be well worth it. It will be a credit too you. I can't wait to see the finished article. Keep up the good work Dave. As Dave says, it will be a "Class act"
It has Brian. feeling like I have turned a corner now the rest of the jobs won't be as slow and draggy hopefully. Going back up today to start stripping the hull back. Mark is the one who likes saying class acts 😂😂😂 Thanks Brian
Been following you for a fair while now Dave. I've just restored my Picton Domino (based on a shetland sheltie). 1 lesson I learned with flow coat is if you want to paint over it you need to sand it back and wipe with acetone because paint won't bond to the wax. You probably know that but just incase you didn't awake the same mistake I did. Hope that helps. Cheers for sharing with us buddy its going to be a great boat when you finish.
I know Tim I remember you and I appreciate it big time. Ye I know ime Flo coat. That's good you did yours. Hopefully mine will be a float next session 🤞🤞🤞
Wow Dave the stringers look awesome all in place and sealed, it's really coming on now. Just catching up on videos as been in hospital so now on the road to recovery and to get back to work. Looking forward to watching the other videos and to see it all finished and ready to see water, keep up the good work as and when you can around family time and work. My last outing in June I was targeting the rays with squid, bluey, mackerel but got pestered with turbot but I'll keep trying for the rays 👍🎣🎣🎣
Thanks Mike. I hope you have a speedy recovery. Yes its coming on good now, I have just started sanding and grinding the hull back yesterday. I would love turbot over the rays 😂😂😂
@@C3BFA cheers Dave I'm getting there just a bit tender but will soon be back to work and fishing. It will look well once the hull is all sanded and the keel strengthened can't wait to see more videos, turbot 8s a new species for me but would like to catch a ray got the right baits it may be down to reaching the right distance into ray territory or not casting as far but having the right conditions on the day, keep up the good work Dave 👍🎣🎣🎣
@@C3BFA I'm no big caster and not sure of my distance but been practicing the OTG cast and doing OK, I've tied the two rigs in one using the trident tackle that you tied and I've also tied some 3' pulley rigs 70Ib straight through but tied a 4/0 koike circle hook as a dongle rig to stop deep hooking the fish and using baits about 3" long but the nuisance fish are finding the baits first but I'll keep trying 👍🎣🎣🎣
Brilliant advice mate,me and my mate are doing the celotex stringers for our 17ft flyer tomorrow but was unsure how to get the template right. These last 2 vids has pointed us in the right direction. Thank you and great job 👍
Hi good job. I would use ball pit balls to fill your Gap. Even closed cell foams eventually hold water..i build coldrooms for a living and uou would be amazed how much they still to hold water once there a year or so old.
Thank you for your input I really appreciate it. I was thinking the closed cell may absorb water over time. I do think I'm going down the play pit ball route tbh. And maybe closed cell foam around the edges of the deck because it don't have drainage between them anyway because of the shape.. Thanks for your comment i appreciate it thanks dave
Thanks mate.. have taken a bit of time out while we get things sorted but will be doing it hard next year now our boats ready ect. But yeah when plastic bottles will work . Looking good tho mate..subbed back thank you

Watching this VID from Down under - Still deciding if I go Marine Plywood - Traditional overhaul for stringers or Foam Filled aspects as you done- the Yanks swear by it strength. Love to know your answer
Thanks for watching Peter I would love to visit your county one day and do some fishing. The foam core stringers will never rot. The foam is not the strength it's the fibreglass, the foam is just a mold to put the glass around. I would go with 3 - 6 layers of 600 chop depending on boat size. I used 450 chop and roven I did 6+ layers. If you use marine ply the ply is the strength so you can use less fibreglass but one day it will rot out meaning it needs to be done again. Foam stringers only get done once. Hope this helps let me know if you have anymore questions. Thanks Dave
@@dantarling8303 I'm. Not 100% sure yet I need to make ans installed the bow bulkhead and the cuddy bulkhead first. Once those are in the rest if the deck can go in then.
Just curious why u bothered flo coating under the floor. The glass was waterproof without it. And u will never see it. I didn't bother when i did mine. Just used expanding foam between the stringers. Cut and sand flat then three layers double bias as floor. Tuff as and will never rot. Cant sink this thing when u fill it like a bathtub
Because the bare glass isn't water proof from the research I have done. Plus it was laminating resin so needs to be sealed off. And it's just extra protection
Hi mate , prob too late , ........before you flip the boat , brace the the beam of the boat with timber lengths....3x1 cls etc using the existing rod holder holes. This will keep the shape and torsion too the hull. You want to avoid any flexing of the hull which might compromise any of the superb work you have done . Also try and cushion the gunwhale with matting or even material as to absorb the weight of the roll over of the boat etc. When complete , this will be the strongest dory out there !
It's already flipped now. It's solid I did test it and it won't go out of shape. The gunnels are supported too. Thanks for your input I do appreciate it
@@C3BFA it’s logical. Simple physics. Any mast between the glass will greatly increase the strength against twisting and warping. Or collapsing in there by losing the plain it’s meant to maintain.

Your absolutely spot on Jorge. Quite a few look and think this foam is weak which is fair enough but like you say the core is just the mould.
The light is beginning to show at the end of the tunnel now Dave lad. She is looking really good, i can't wait to see her finished. 😉

@michaelabbott6271 I haven't found distance is important. I have found the seem to favour smaller baits tho

@michaelabbott6271 you don't need to be. I do suppose that depends where you fish tho. I'd say where I am 30 yards + is enough

Well actually. Foam with the glass would be stronger than the glass alone. But it wouldn’t be stronger than wood.
I'm not sure what's stonger or not without stress testing but this is plenty strong enough for what I need and the stringers will never ever rot again
