    What about smoke danger whilst letting it burn out?

    • @StacheDTraining
      @StacheDTraining  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      There are a lot of concerns for any methods. If you let it burn, you have a more complete combustion of the gasses that are being given off. If you don't let it burn, there are more un-burnt products of combustion that could be harmful. If you put lots of water on it, you could be introducing contaminants into the waterways. If you are on city water, chlorine is one of those contaminants. There is still a lot of data that needs to be collected on the topic. Hopefully trials with UL Fire Safety Research Institute will help answer many of the questions.

    Law makers need to push to phase out the chemistry that causes these runaway battery fires. There are next generation chemistry that's starting to be produced the way the current lithium tech phased out those NiCad and NmIH batteries which were terrible for power tools such as those 1990s drills you had to 100 percent discharge due to battery "memory".
    No only will the cars not keep on burning for hours but we'll have higher capacity & charge rates for our power tools. I seen where somebody used cheap harbor freight zaw zaw blades to trench their back yard for wiring.animal fences, it would be nice if we could quick charge those power tools.

  • @sidkemp4672
    @sidkemp4672 ปีที่แล้ว

    Two questions:
    If an electric car battery does not need oxygen, why don't underwater burning cars or buried burning cars burn out in 1-2 hours the same as cars left to burn out on the road?
    If the fire appears out, is there any chemical or structural solution that will reduce or eliminate the possible of the runaway heat starting a fire later?

    • @StacheDTraining
      @StacheDTraining  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There are a lot of factors. If the battery box does fill up with water, it will stop the cascading thermal runaway. That means it should not allow other cells inside the box to burn. However, now you have a damaged box. You also have damaged water soaked cells. Once the vehicle is removed from the water it is possible for the thermal runaway to start again. It really depends on the amount of stranded energy (if any) in the cells.

    Thought water cut through everything…. Can a high pressure water stream cut through fireproof material and take out ev fire?

    • @andyowens5494
      @andyowens5494 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The kind of pressures used in fabrication require some heavy duty equipment - its not exactly portable. What has been tried are spikes that penetrate the battery pack and allow "normal" high pressure water in: HOWEVER, battery packs are often segmented (and Tesla ones can be filled with foam), so once the water gets inside, it may not get to the cells that are actually causing the problem. Then there is the additional risk that penetrating the pack can cause additional faults that lead to other parts of the pack failing and exacerbating the problem. The engineering to solve the problem is going to come from a combination of vehicle/motive system design engineers, chemical battery technology changes, and first responder engagement, rather than just some engineers attempting to design a solution to the symptom.
