In a debate moderated by TIMES NOW's Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami, panelists -- Shobha De, Author; Atul Wasan, Former Indian Cricketer; Surinder Khanna, Former Indian Cricketer; Shailendra Singh, MD, Percept; and Bimal Soni, Deputy President, Rajasthan Cricket Association -- discuss the issue of Team India manager allowing wives to travel with their husbands, and commenting that the society doesn't approve of girlfriends staying with the players on foreign tours.
The debate of Wives and Girlfriends (WAGs) accompanying cricketers on foreign tours has taken a different twist after India's team manager Sunil Dev questioned actress Anushka Sharma's stay with boyfriend Virat Kohli during the Test series in England. Once termed as the most eligible bachelor of Team India, under-performing Kohli has now come under severe criticism for his Test failure -- 134 runs in 5 matches. Many fans and some quarters of BCCI have blamed Anushka's presence behind the vice-captain's poor form with the bat in a series, which India lost 1-3. BCCI's decision to allow the Bollywood actress to stay with the cricketer has snowballed into a controversy after Dev just stopped short of saying that wife's are ok but girlfriends on tours was against the culture of the country. "I didn't know who gave this permission and from where it was supposed to be taken. Whether this was been done before or not I am not aware of it. But I will definitely speak to the BCCI about what I feel and submit my report," Dev told 'Times Now'. Asked whether girlfriends travelling with the players on tour was against Indian culture, Dev said: As you said yes I agree with you. But I won't make any comment until I meet Board members. "I am bound with a contract with the Board." Kohli and Anushka have been grabbing headlines ever since they were first spotted together during the tour of New Zealand. During the England series, the couple were back in the news when it was reported that the actress was staying in the same hotel as Kohli with permission from the BCCI.

Does Shobhaa De understand cricket?? Why was she invited to the panel, anyways the issue discussed was waste of time. Virat Kohli had some issues with his technique and probably he was also not exposed to such wickets in test matches at that time, please do not forget that he was the player who scored well against Australia in 2011-12 series where other stalwarts of Indian team failed, it was Virat who had that century to his name, he scored well against SA and NZ in early 2014, the England series was the one where he failed. A person cannot be perfect, somewhere he/ she will fail and that happened with Kohli. Why was Dhoni dragged into this matter?? He has always been a selfless cricketer for his nation and there will be many people in India who would be grateful to Dhoni and his team for fulfilling the dream of winning the World Cup after Kapil Dev. He has always tried to make a team and while making a great team you may end up losing some matches on a trot and this happened with Dhoni, unfortunately people do not have the patience to wait for good results and I also feel that many people do not have the minds to understand the game. It is a humble request to such people that if you have no clue about the nature of the game, then at least have the love and respect for your captain or start understanding the game rather than getting emotional every time.
may be BCCI think that GIRLFRIEND is like a new fresh pitch and it will take too much energy of our player to adjust in a very tight and hard conditions and our player will get exhausted very fast. they think wife is like old pitch and u have already bowled before and wont take ur much stamina.
