In the evening invite your friends over, heat cheap sausages on the hot stones of the sauna. Enjoy the sauna, go to the ice hole and plunge, go back to sauna, drink beer, eat sausages. Complain to your friends how fixing your car is expensive. Repeat next saturday maybe, if you feel like it.

One thing I always tell people in almost any context is that early optimization is the first step to failure. I don't think anyone should try to do anything like Andrew Huberman's routine. Andrew Huberman clearly has a large amount of flexibility with his schedule that most people don't have and his goals are not necessarily your goals. This routine wouldn't work for 99% of people. Start by building a routine that works for your specific situation and put it together one piece at a time, and your first priority should always be maintaining consistency, NOT optimization. Once you have all major pieces in place, that's the time to start optimizing.
Exactly. I really hate these new age Roganesq health gurus because all their programs are things that only extremely wealthy people that don't work real jobs can follow.

Yeah, lol The Cold Shower bit I hate, Tony Robbins instructed me through his Video's to start doing this back in 2000-2001 which I did. BUT, I go ahead and take my warm, not hot, warm regular shower, then before I get out, I do segments of the cold shower until the hot water is basically off and freeze my tail off and head and everything off, LOL for 30 seconds each segment. I'm telling you, Mitch, cold exposure gains huge amounts of cred to me due to their hormetic stress contributions and the aid it can be for folks who are leaning away from stims and wanting to not crash into depression, or just those with general depression who aren't manipulating their system with stims. I think you are a highly energetic and positively driven force, so the benefits may not link onto so apparently. However, if you find battles with righteous aggression or anxiety to peak when you are, eh, "peaking", then a tub of icy torture may clear those clouds from your mind. I sat in 29 degree (Fahrenheit) water for months last winter as I detoxed from assorted stims and conquering that mountain every morning gave my whole system rocket fuel to push through days which would otherwise have me feeling hopeless.

I love drinking water with salt crystals in it! But I read you should just start small, and add a little more every time until you feel like it's too much and not that tasty any more, but only put enough so that you can slightly taste it (I think it tastes better than plain water actually)

Im a cold shower believer. Whether it was me telling myself what I wanted to hear, taking them when I was going through some dark times anecdotally helped. I take them now every night before sleep, it puts me right out.
Huberman is generally good, but has been called on some of his sponsorships on his channel. If you go to his guest suggestion, it has an edge with guests/experts that have a social media platform. He might not take the best expert, but the most recognized publicly as an expert. Not saying that is wrong, because some the smartest people are not the best communicators.
I feel like someone should use the meme of the super technical shooters with all the gear vs Yusuf Dicek, comparing Huberman's hyper nitpicky routine with just getting on with it, using common sense. 😂 What's next, Bryan Johnson's routine?

So firstly I think a lot of the stuff he says that is not necessarily his expertise is from things has learned from guests on his podcast etc. Of course that puts him in the position as most of the rest of us as in.. whose research do you believe or just go with the flavor of the week since they change their mind all the time (I have been lifting over 50 years and you wouldn't believe how many times they have changed their mind on the benefit of the eccentric part of the movement). The lifting advice is likely from the research on lengthened movements where the stretch actually supposedly causes additional hypertrophy and I believe there has been other new research talking about the peak part of the movement. This research is about hypertrophy not necessarily performance so well.... Also in unless it is winter I find the shower doesn't get that cold so not sure how much use that is and who wants to jump in a vat of ice water for some "possible" tiny benefit... not me. The way my uni dietetics professors explained the salt thing to me is like this. Some people will have an ampunt of blood pressure increase when consuming hugh sodium meals. Unless you have a blood pressure cuff at home and have monitired what different high sodium meals do to your blood pressure at different times of day then you don't know who is at risk of harm on a high sodium diet. An average person doesnt actually need that much sodium (1800mg roughly) each day to function just fine and as the average person is most people then we'll err on the side of caution and say domt consume to much sodium and heres what its like to have low sodium so if you experience that then go eat some salty stuff. Talk to a dietitian and they'll never say that sodium IS a poison that WILL kill you. They'll say its an essential nutrient that may do harm if consumed in excess then provide the current evidence based guidelines around its consumption and that's it really.
Seeing as how absolutely fucked an average person in terms of health and fitness is, idk how much weight the recommendations for average people are going to carry. I personally consume somewhere around 4000mg a day on average and my blood pressure is good, i work out a few times a week, though i don't sweat a lot.
@wowandrss The issue with the reccomendations is less than 10% of people follow them, as a result huge amounts of people are sick yes. That has nothing to do with the reccomendations and more to do with a western food environment that says mac n cheese with crushed flamin hot cheetos is a meal instead of a plate of roast lambwith rosemary and a winter vegetable and feta salad and balsamic vinegar as dressing. 90% of people eat the later more than the former and it shows in the rates of illness. If you're fit an healthy then you'll be much more equipped to tolerate high sodium. The average person isn't that because of the aforementioned mac n cheese. Also 4g isn't crazy high, I've cared for patients (I'm a student dietitian on placement) that will regularly go over 10g, now those people each suspiciously had some form of cardiovascular disorder 🤔.
The mourning routine as Huberman does feels in parts like it is only possible in California. In my part of Germany from November to February there is next to no sun and it kinda constantly rains.
Same problem in Norway. I laugh when iNfLuEnCeRs say you need to get sun every day. My brother in Christ/Krishna/insert mythical figure of your choice, the earth isn't flat. It doesn't work like that.
i think he said in one of his videos that if you are living in a city in the north, and doesn't have sunlight that much. you could buy a lamp that mimicks sunlight (UV light) to light in the mornings. same problem in sweden ;)
I would love to see Huberman or anyone get up at 3:30am, drive to work at 5:30am and then 6am work 12 hours and then do all this fancy stuff during your day, oh wait, you cannot cause your working! So when you hear "Everyone should be doing this" yeah right. And Bro splits are still the best.
I work 70 hours a week and have more than enough time for this sort of thing, I’m up at 3:20, gym for 4am then work for 6am till 5pm and then a walk on a night followed by cold shower etc, all done by 7pm ready for bed by 8, rinse repeat 👍

These “gurus” like Huberman tend to ignore the differences between individuals. He’s a good place to start from, but then figure out what works for you and your body and brain. For instance, I do combined very slow body weight training/moving meditation right before bed… feels amazing, and sleep is good 😁.
I found specific types of meditation, IE mindfulness meditation, to be super helpful when I had acute anxiety. But as a daily routine I'm not sure it's necessary unless you're suffering from acute anxiety on the daily. In which case that sucks, I'm sorry.

Hey Mitch, I was wondering if you could do a video on functional mobility and warmups. I can’t comfortably do a back squat because I can’t get the bar lower than the top of my traps, for instance. My pecs and shoulders are too tight, even after some advanced warm ups.

Big fan of yours. Just for the safety of everyone, 1 8oz cup of coffee is actually 80-100 mg of caffeine. So your double was 160-200 mg. Cheers either way!
A regular man who gyms regularly can do between 8-16 kg on this exercise. A very good arm wrestler 20+ kg. This trains your pronation btw, but can be pretty tough on your joints.

about meditation there's plenty of neuroscientists who have demonstrated the huge amount of benefits, such as Sam Harris and Rudolph Tanzi and many others, medics too and neuroscience experts
if it's a work day, I start it by rolling out of bed, getting a massive glass of water and a half scoop of pre-workout just cause I use that more than coffee these days. Off day I wake up, waddle my ass to my apartment gym, and do 30 mins of cardio and resistance. Work days are 4am. Off days are 6. T-T
Meditation can have very good mental and psychological affects which can in turn provide some perceived physical affects. But the mind is a powerful thing and you have to give it an honest try or it will never work for you. If you don't believe it will work then you will not be able to relax enough and properly meditate so then the benefits will not be visible. Honestly though not everyone needs to meditate to be in a good mental state so no harm in it for those people.
Get up at 6am. A whole hour after I need to get up to have any chance of making work in time. But don't take any caffeine until at least 90 minutes into your day. Then don't start work until 90 minutes after you caffeine intake. Then work out for 90 minutes? His job must be very flexible. I get not everyone works 12 hour shifts but butvwhos sorbdingv4 and a half hours just preparing to work?

Jahna meditation steps for beginners that I suggest. 1. Download Bohdi timer for your phone. Set the timer for 20 minutes. It mutes all other notifications so you won't be interuppted and it tells you when your time is up. Often during meditation time can feel much longer or shorter. 2. Be secluded from people or animals. Alone in a room is fine. 3. Sit or lay in a comfortable position. 4. Close your eyes. A sleeping mask and noise canceling headphones can be clutch. 5. Place a hand in your stomach, or be very mindful of the way your breath feels as it exits and enters your nose. 6. Place and keep the mind on the breath object of meditation. Whenever the mind strays dismiss the thought as quickly as possible and return to the object of meditation. You may be surprised or alarmed how deep into thought your mind can go before you are even aware. This is known as discursive thought. Note: satiupaṭṭhāna is usually translated into English as "mindfulness" it is best translated as "Placing and keeping the mind" on an object, topic, or task etc That's it basically. The five hindrances to meditation are: doubt (that you can succeed in meditation), restlessness (feeling like you must do something else right now) anger (unable to let go of anger) wanting (sensory stimulation or input) laziness (unable to apply yourself) "Drawl" is the acronym I use to remember.
How is this done when you do physical labor for your living like many people do? White collar jobs aren't physically taxing. Does Huberman give those who do labor consideration when giving his recommendations. Or does he think everyone works I'm an office/classroom setting?
Exactly, it's all just recommendations. They are a frame work not set in stone for optimal health/productivity. Stop making excuses anyway, makes you look weak.
You don't. Morning routines like this are a meme. Build a daily routine that fits your situation and your goals one piece at a time. Optimizing should be your last worry, just try to maintain consistency. Keep the things that work, modify or remove the things that don't. Huberman lives in a very weird world that us peasants don't get to experience.
The "no coffee during the first 90-120min."... This seems easy enough, but let me tell ya; if you´re a caffein addict like myself, thoat time frame is going to be pure hell. I always wake up with a bad headache, that tends to only go away after my first cup of coffee. I ry to postpone it as long as I can, but normally I can´t stand more then 30-45min. before I slam my first 2 espresso
I showered with cold water for months, hated every minute of it and did not feel any benefits from it. Just do a cold moment after a warm shower to wake myself up if needed.

Some people will have an ampunt of blood pressure increase when consuming hugh sodium meals. Unless you have a blood pressure cuff at home and have monitired what different high sodium meals do to your blood pressure at different times of day then you don't know who is at risk of harm on a high sodium diet. An average person doesnt actually need that much sodium (1800mg roughly) each day to function just fine and as the average person is most people then we'll err on the side of caution and say domt consume to much sodium and heres what its like to have low sodium so if you experience that then go eat some salty stuff.
Talk to a dietitian and they'll never say that sodium IS a poison that WILL kill you. They'll say its an essential nutrient that may do harm if consumed in excess then provide the current evidence based guidelines around its consumption and that's it really.
Seeing as how absolutely fucked an average person in terms of health and fitness is, idk how much weight the recommendations for average people are going to carry. I personally consume somewhere around 4000mg a day on average and my blood pressure is good, i work out a few times a week, though i don't sweat a lot.
@wowandrss The issue with the reccomendations is less than 10% of people follow them, as a result huge amounts of people are sick yes. That has nothing to do with the reccomendations and more to do with a western food environment that says mac n cheese with crushed flamin hot cheetos is a meal instead of a plate of roast lambwith rosemary and a winter vegetable and feta salad and balsamic vinegar as dressing. 90% of people eat the later more than the former and it shows in the rates of illness.
If you're fit an healthy then you'll be much more equipped to tolerate high sodium. The average person isn't that because of the aforementioned mac n cheese. Also 4g isn't crazy high, I've cared for patients (I'm a student dietitian on placement) that will regularly go over 10g, now those people each suspiciously had some form of cardiovascular disorder 🤔.

The mourning routine as Huberman does feels in parts like it is only possible in California. In my part of Germany from November to February there is next to no sun and it kinda constantly rains.
Same problem in Norway. I laugh when iNfLuEnCeRs say you need to get sun every day. My brother in Christ/Krishna/insert mythical figure of your choice, the earth isn't flat. It doesn't work like that.
i think he said in one of his videos that if you are living in a city in the north, and doesn't have sunlight that much. you could buy a lamp that mimicks sunlight (UV light) to light in the mornings. same problem in sweden ;)

I work 70 hours a week and have more than enough time for this sort of thing, I’m up at 3:20, gym for 4am then work for 6am till 5pm and then a walk on a night followed by cold shower etc, all done by 7pm ready for bed by 8, rinse repeat 👍

Also, if you look at cold showers late in the day, it has reverse affect, Huberman stated that. And if you really can do this, good job, I also cook daily for meals, and other life things, drive to work, shopping, my gym is 45 minutes away, so yeah no.

These “gurus” like Huberman tend to ignore the differences between individuals. He’s a good place to start from, but then figure out what works for you and your body and brain. For instance, I do combined very slow body weight training/moving meditation right before bed… feels amazing, and sleep is good 😁.
I found specific types of meditation, IE mindfulness meditation, to be super helpful when I had acute anxiety. But as a daily routine I'm not sure it's necessary unless you're suffering from acute anxiety on the daily. In which case that sucks, I'm sorry.

Hey Mitch, I was wondering if you could do a video on functional mobility and warmups. I can’t comfortably do a back squat because I can’t get the bar lower than the top of my traps, for instance. My pecs and shoulders are too tight, even after some advanced warm ups.

A regular man who gyms regularly can do between 8-16 kg on this exercise. A very good arm wrestler 20+ kg. This trains your pronation btw, but can be pretty tough on your joints.

if it's a work day, I start it by rolling out of bed, getting a massive glass of water and a half scoop of pre-workout just cause I use that more than coffee these days. Off day I wake up, waddle my ass to my apartment gym, and do 30 mins of cardio and resistance. Work days are 4am. Off days are 6. T-T
Meditation can have very good mental and psychological affects which can in turn provide some perceived physical affects. But the mind is a powerful thing and you have to give it an honest try or it will never work for you. If you don't believe it will work then you will not be able to relax enough and properly meditate so then the benefits will not be visible. Honestly though not everyone needs to meditate to be in a good mental state so no harm in it for those people.
Get up at 6am. A whole hour after I need to get up to have any chance of making work in time. But don't take any caffeine until at least 90 minutes into your day. Then don't start work until 90 minutes after you caffeine intake. Then work out for 90 minutes? His job must be very flexible. I get not everyone works 12 hour shifts but butvwhos sorbdingv4 and a half hours just preparing to work?

Jahna meditation steps for beginners that I suggest.
1. Download Bohdi timer for your phone. Set the timer for 20 minutes. It mutes all other notifications so you won't be interuppted and it tells you when your time is up. Often during meditation time can feel much longer or shorter.
2. Be secluded from people or animals. Alone in a room is fine.
3. Sit or lay in a comfortable position.
4. Close your eyes. A sleeping mask and noise canceling headphones can be clutch.
5. Place a hand in your stomach, or be very mindful of the way your breath feels as it exits and enters your nose.
6. Place and keep the mind on the breath object of meditation. Whenever the mind strays dismiss the thought as quickly as possible and return to the object of meditation. You may be surprised or alarmed how deep into thought your mind can go before you are even aware. This is known as discursive thought.
Note: satiupaṭṭhāna is usually translated into English as "mindfulness" it is best translated as "Placing and keeping the mind" on an object, topic, or task etc

How is this done when you do physical labor for your living like many people do? White collar jobs aren't physically taxing. Does Huberman give those who do labor consideration when giving his recommendations. Or does he think everyone works I'm an office/classroom setting?
Exactly, it's all just recommendations. They are a frame work not set in stone for optimal health/productivity. Stop making excuses anyway, makes you look weak.
You don't. Morning routines like this are a meme. Build a daily routine that fits your situation and your goals one piece at a time. Optimizing should be your last worry, just try to maintain consistency. Keep the things that work, modify or remove the things that don't. Huberman lives in a very weird world that us peasants don't get to experience.
The "no coffee during the first 90-120min."... This seems easy enough, but let me tell ya; if you´re a caffein addict like myself, thoat time frame is going to be pure hell. I always wake up with a bad headache, that tends to only go away after my first cup of coffee. I ry to postpone it as long as I can, but normally I can´t stand more then 30-45min. before I slam my first 2 espresso

I showered with cold water for months, hated every minute of it and did not feel any benefits from it. Just do a cold moment after a warm shower to wake myself up if needed.
