      @UCAR, your video is extremely detailed and step by step clear! But one question, at 6:49 you mention exhaust valves, I thought towards the front bumper was the intake valve and the one behind is the exhaust valve? (closer to exhaust back?

    This is the BEST guide out there, thank you so much for the video! I’m going to do it soonish by myself and watched like 10 videos on the topic already.
    Noone mentioned in their videos valves need to be adjusted in order 1,3,4,2 like you did. I read about it in Honda manual which otherwise extremely lacks in details so posting a comment when this plays :D
    Thanks for the tip with plastic cover too, stand out idea!
    Also didn’t know the car needs to be in Neutral until now..

    Just did mine. They had never been done before in the life of the vehicle. Idle rattle/clicking noises gone now on an engine that had 256k km over 11 years. Hoping, also, to restore some fuel efficiency. All exhaust and intake valves where a little loose. They had a small gap when the max size feeler was inserted for reference (i.e. a tiny bit of valve motion could be detected by hand). It was consistent across all valves. I attribute that to wear. Everything is clearly described in the service manual and this video is very accurate. In addition, I removed the cowl (plastic trim at the engine bay / windshield) to have a bit more room to work. In retrospect, If I did it a second time, or for any work at the back of the engine bay, I would also remove the steel cross member that is directly under the cowl in order to totally open the back side of the engine bay.

      Thank you for your comment, that's a good remark, I totally agree - if you remove the cowl and steel cross member, it would be much easier to reach the back side. Of course it needs extra time to operate, so there are 2 options: adjust them like shown in video, or spend a little bit more time, but instead get easier access to operate.

      Hey, how has your fuel efficiency change since your valve adjustment? My mpg is 200-230miles per tank. I used to get 330-370miles per tank. Im looking into doing valve adjustment.

      If you've lost 100 miles per tank, then there is something seriously wrong with the car. Probably couldn't hurt to have a look at the valves to see if something has gone badly wrong there, but should also do a compression check, have a look at the transmission, and also check for substantial break drag.

      Check transmission fluid level, and if it hasn't been replaced since the mileage reduction, then drain and install fresh. Does the car run normally? Hard to imagine that it would with it getting less than 2/3 of typical mileage. Have you checked plugs and air filter?

    Lol ahhhh no, I literally just sat down after finishing the valve set on my 2006 civic and needed to know how to get access to rear bolts and I did loose the rubber boot for the injector cover. It's not until now that I sit down and go onto TH-cam your video comes up🤦🏻‍♂️

    Only worth doing if car has high mileage. I have type r and it says to do it every 25k miles there's hardly any difference in that mileage. But if you're approaching 100k miles and it hasn't been done for a while there will be a big difference

    (btw turning the engine requires a bit of force, most TH-camrs probably removed spark plugs, also I didn't have a 19mm so i used a 3/4s) Just finished doing this on my 06 civic. Interesting enough the internals of the engine are a copper/brass/gold color? Idk what that was about but when i was finishing i checked the oil level to see that it had basically none? Im guessing that was just me turning the engine over manually or the fact that i did this over 3 days with the cover not fully bolted in.

    Why do you change the gasket tho? In the shop manual, they only say to "thoroughly clean the head cover gasket and groove".
    I see that you already replied to someone that the manufacturers say to replace it every time, but where did you see that ?

    Thank you so much for this video. One question: where are the spark plug tube seals? I'm interested in replacing those, too as there is some oil leaking into the ignition well.

      Sorry for the late reply. This engine doesn't have any spark plug tube seals, because the tubes are situated directly in the cylinder head. I don't even know what to answer. But if you have honda civic 4d with 1.3l hybrid engine, the oil leakage is possible, You just need to replace spark plug tube seals, situated in the valve cover. Here are their OEM part number - 12342-P08-004

    Great video. I'm planning on doing this very soon. One question: do you always need to replace the gasket when you do a valve adjustment?

      Jackson Alvey yes and no. You should. But not always necessary. Some rtv and the old gasket would work find

      Manufacturer recommends to replace it every time you open the cylinder head cover, but everything depends on the condition of the gasket. If it was installed less than a year ago and has no cracks, I think you can try to clean it and install again

      For anyone else who sees this comment in the future, talked to my local Honda dealership service department. They inspect it but don't replace it unless it's worn.

      @@AudreysKitchen this took me back! I ended up just replacing mine 5 years ago when I did it. Don't know that it really needed it, but oh well!
      Engine block ended up cracking 2 years ago so I had to part with it. Was a great car, but I understand that was a flaw that many of them had.

      Thank you. No any additional procedures required. Just start the engine and go.
      The manual says the following:
      "1.(only European models): Turn the ignition switch ON (II). Connect the HDS to the DLC.
      2.(only European models): Select Health Check, then VALVE CLEARANCE CHECK on the HDS. If necessary, adjust the valve clearance."
      But this procedure is made before adjustment and this is just a check, but there are no any learning procedures.

    Hello, a question, there is another way to do the idle relearn manually, before I had 750 rpm and now has 650 rpm and feels a slight vibration, and try to clean the throttle body and the maf sensor and accelerating it at 3,000 rpm for 5 Min and continues with low rpm. 6 months ago the same thing happened to me, just disconnect the battery and accelerate it the same way and I get to stay, but this time it's still low in rpm. some help ??? thanks.

      hmm, that's a little bit strange, because idle 650 rpm is totally normal for this engine, and you can feel a slight vibration. Honda made such low idle is to suit environmental standards. I don't know any ways to do idle relearn manually (except the one, you describe) without HDS scanner

      Las vegas Nv The idle relearn can’t be performed until the TPS is reset , you need a tool Foxwell 510 meter with Honda software
