    Hullo Emma, I have continued to watch your content here on TH-cam! There is so much to learn! I do miss the Patreon groups and I can recommend it to anyone who has the means and opportunity to do so! Honestly if I were going to pay for lessons I would go to your group with no reservations in the least! You have wonderful videos and follow along videos!
    I remember being part of a couple of Patreon groups and I was never unhappy with any of them! I simply ran out of funds for continuing education, and now I am learning through practice and free content. I am thankful for your generosity and wonderful ideas and examples, thank you.

    I loved seeing your progression between your two tiger paintings! Your discussion breaking down the reasons why your second piece is stronger is clearly and beautifully done! Thanks for sharing, Emma!

    Thank you so much for your videos , their content and quality. I always feel encouraged to go and take out my pastels after having seen one of your videos. This was so ineresting to se the difference between two very good paintings, what I noticed was thedifference in " drama" that made your later painting so much more interesting to look at in comparison! Lighting , and ypu excellent way of painting it makes such an impact! Thank you for letting us see these and hear your reasoning.
    At present I am saving up so I can join your pareon later this coming summer, your patreon is by no means expensive especially when looking at all the fabulous contemt you share, but being unemployed in this present inflation /cost of living time has its own challenges. But as one has to have the basic necessities to live a good life also needs some silver lining and for me it will be to treat myself later this year with your tutorials. Pastel time for me will have to be in summer now as I have come to the sad conclusion that painting with pastels in doors has made my dogs start coughing now and then, even if I am ever so gentle and never blow on the paper or shake it in any way. My doggies will sadly not tolerate to be shut away from me (they are after all dachshunds with a will of iron ..) so outdoor painting it will have to be! Are your dogs with you in the studio and if so how do you prevent the dust from irritating them?

      Thanks so much for your comment. I hope you got at some outdoor painting over the summer. My dogs have spent time with me in the studio but not so much in my current one as it's small. My little dachshund passed away over the summer and it's her presence I will miss forever in my studio. She's been with me in every studio from the start but was never bothered by the pastel as I don't create much dust when working.
      You're quite right to prioritise a silver lining sometimes. Life is for living.

      @@EmmaColbertArt oh I am so very sorry for your huge loss! She was so beautiful for us all to watch and I think we who watch your videos all realise the importance of your dogs in your life and in your art. I so understand you feel the void left from her passing so much, I have lost too many of my darling dachshunds over the years ( we had dachshunds before I was born 60 years ago and I have always had at least one by my side) and each of them left such a huge gap in my life, grief gets easier to carry but I still miss each of them so very much. They are such huge personalities and forever stamp a big paw in your heart. I wish I could express myself better... I hope your other dogs can keep you company in the studio to make it easier for you in a difficult time!

    Hi Emma - and thanks for your great video. 🎨 The tiger from 2008 is lovely, and what an achievment - with that tricky referense!!! 😳 But, no doubt, your own development and skills do shine through in comparesment. 🌿 Absolutely gorgeous work! 🙏 I will soon have more time to paint - and will definetely check out your Patreon Channel then! 👍

    Hi Emma! Thank you for share and for the tips, to improve the skills in pastels! we always improve our skills over the time, and a lot of practice of course. I'm also starting with pastel, I've only been a year, I love this technique! I've painted Portraits of people and animals, and comparing with your progress, I identify a lot with your previous work, your first tiger. I need to add more colors, tonal values. Analyzing my work, I think that's what I'm missing, and also, how to add thinner layers, so as not to saturate the paper. In my case I use Pastelmat, and I've used Canson Mi-teintes, and others, which I don't like it, because I can't add so many layers as Pastelmat paper. That's why I watch your channel a lot, and your partner Jason Morgan. Thank you as always Emma❤️❤️❤️👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

      Thank you Claritza. Self analysis is the key and it's hard to do as you progress. You can easily see it when you look back on older work. Sounds like you've identified some good things to work on!

    Love your work. Do you ever use Pan Pastels in your paintings? On a different note, how does one determine which tutorials are available with each of the tiers on Patreon? I am especially interested in the Collie.

    • @EmmaColbertArt
      @EmmaColbertArt  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! I do have some Pan Pastels and they're great, but I'm more in love with the sticks. They're more immediate without the use of tools to apply the pigment. That's what makes pastel special for me. In regards to the tutorials. My whole tutorial library is available to levels 2 and above (the €4 level) The other levels come with different added rewards.

    Emma,
    Both tigers are beautiful! Thank you for the tips. Do you think that if you used the first photo again that you could make the painting more dramatic and expressive? Sometimes, you get a photo from a customer and it is not very good, but the subject may have passed and you can’t take a photo of your own.

    • @mjpete27
      @mjpete27 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      HulloCarolyn, I have painted honorary portraits in the past. I have had to request multiple copies of the person or pet to compile the best reference possible. You can also ask for a photo of the subject from their youth. You are the Artist and getting a likeness is usually the most important thing in portraits. Patterns on pets or facial features do not change dramatically over the years. Good luck to you!

    • @EmmaColbertArt
      @EmmaColbertArt  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Carolyn, yes for sure I think I could do a better job on the first photo now. The difference is that I probably wouldn't bother trying with that photo now. And I do turn down clients work if they can't provide a good enough photo. That being said, there are many things you can do to transform a bad photo into something good. But there are limits too!

    Hi, I just had a quick question. How long does it usually take to complete your artworks?

    • @EmmaColbertArt
      @EmmaColbertArt  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think this one took around 12 hours due to the complexity of tiger markings. I work any size from 7" up to 40" so time changes a lot for each piece. As little as 4 hours, or as much as 60 hours.
