Truly appreciate that you show and explain how to read a pattern. Then still show us what to do. This is what you call an INCREDIBLE, TALENTED TEACHER. I love this. Thank you very very very very much. Now I can kinda understand those asterisks 😁😍🥰
Absolutely.. Positively... I took the highlighting step a bot further. I used a multimcolor pen, to underling the steps in diff colors so o can follow it easier...
tyvm i have only been crocheting 5 weeks and made lots of blankets and decided to concentrate on basic stitches and no matter what i still didnt get this, so left it as a project to come back to once i learnt more stitches, i have just sat down and made the most wonderful basket and realise where i went wrong every time.. and now starting to read patterns, wish my gran was alive she said i did not get it but i do gran and wish you were here to show me lots of your creations, tyvm Bella x
You are so clear! I love the way you explain the pattern as we go along. That way we can learn how to read the pattern. Yesterday I tried 4 other tutorials and couldn't even get started. Having never crocheted before yesterday I have now made a basket! I can't believe it! Thank you so much.
Thank you do much for posting this video. I managed to create my frist bowl (medium) in one night! I'm so proud of it and definitely wouldn't have been able to do it without your clear instructions. 🥰
After watching your video I have made three baskets! You’ve helped me accomplish something I’ve always wanted to do...crochet my own basket!!!! Thank you!!!
I did like this because you Also showed us how to read the pattern. The basket is small but it turned out great 👍 and I also finally understand where to put the stitch marker.
That was by far, the best illustration of a pattern I have seen yet...I appreciated, so much, having the pattern to follow, as I am not too familiar with following patterns....thanks so much for taking that extra time and effort to follow along with the work....and, the baskets are lovely. :)
WOW!!! I am a poor sleeper and watched this video at 4am. I can't wait for my local hobby craft to open so I can purchase the wool to make a basket. thank you so much for explaining how to do this, with nice clear and timely instructions xx
This was the first tutorial I followed start to finish and understood every word you said ! It came up a really nice large basket ! Thank you so much !!
This is great. Now I understand the transition between the base and the side. And putting the pattern onscreen along with the work was just superior teaching. Thank you.
Hello Sarah-Jayne 👋 from Kentucky USA 🇺🇲 Awesome design work and easy instructions! 👍 I'm getting back to crochet 1st time since a kid. Could do basic stitches, but couldn't read patterns. Hi Sarah-Jayne, I appreciate so much this video which you have explained the pattern to a T which has helped me to complete four medium baskets. One for myself and the other three for my gorgeous three granddaughters, they chose their colours and the youngest who is eight wanted the last three rows in a different colour and a bow made in chain stitch, I looked at her and thought, hang on why not just as the pattern looks. It was fun after all, they also say, 'Thank you Sarah-Jayne'. Thank you for me too. 😁
You look like an English Rose and sound like an angel, what a brilliant tutorial 😀 as always you explain everything so well and in just the right details, for me it was great to understand the pattern also, I’m delighted with the result and will be making more for my up and coming Craft Fair in October. Thanks again Bella you are a star 🌟 love Linda x 🤗
Thank you for this awesome and easy to follow directions pattern! I made a Medium sized basket and turned out really nice!! Thanks again for sharing this 👌💖
I love all your tutorials but this one is super amazing! I love that you teach us with a pattern to help with learning to read patterns 😁 Also I can't believe all this time if I need to use 2 strands together I've always brought 2 balls. I never actually thought of using a strand from each end 🙈 Thank you so much Sarah-Jayne xx
Thank you for your teaching methods. I am a complete beginner and have been delighted this evening in completing a "square". Just need to find a conversion for wool/cotton types for Australia. I have had a look at the basket tutorial where you explain how to read the pattern and I am now super keen to have a try at this. Thank you.
Thank you so much for this video! I actually only watched the end because I was looking for the crab stitch to finish a basket I was working on. Your explanation was excellent and I've finished my basket!! I always enjoy your videos. :)
Love this! I cant read a crochet pattern to save my life, despite both my mom and best friends mom trying to teach me. :/ but I can follow along with you! Thank you so much!!!
I find it so hard to follow written patterns so i love how you explained the pattern as you went along. My basket looked nothing like yours but it was a first attempt so i know I'll do it better next time lol
Love your videos. You are trully a great teacher 😃 Thank you for sharing your knowledge. You explain it in such a nice way. It makes it easy to understand. Thank you.
Excellent! I loved the way you taught but the last round was really tricky. I will surely try and hope I will be able to create a nice basket like the one you showed. Thank you so much for your wonderful tutorial.
Thank you sarah Jayne subtitles will help carol so much and I’m sure a lot of other people to you have helped me so much I’m now waiting for the wool to come from your own pattern the stripe blanket in the same colours as you made love the wisteria clematis colours linda xx
Oh these baskets are wonderful, I already have ideas what I can use them for. Thanks for help with reading of the pattern. So many ideas, so little time, lol.
Question! To make the basket bigger, do you just add one extra double crochet to each stitch per round? Example: she ends with 2 double crochet and 1 double crochet for 4 stitches. To make it bigger do we then do 2 double crochet and 1 double for 5 stitches, so on and so forth?
Excellent instructions and a wonderful video.. lost my fear of crocheting in the rounds when I mastered the use of the stitch markers and how to mark a stitch!!!
I love your basket and appreciate reading the pattern at the same time.(I’m lousy at reading patterns. You can forget the patterns with the little o’s, t’s and groups of t’s that form a large v shape. I feel like I’m looking at some scientific chart of some sort Lol. Have a great day 💕☮️🇺🇸
This video is amazing. I had only knitted scarves before and didn't think I could be able to do this, but with your explanations I could! Thank you so much. Question: If I want to make it even bigger, should I just continue adding rounds in the same way? Example: - 7th rnd: Ch 1. *2 sc in next sc. 1 sc in each of next 5 sc. Rep from * around. Join. - 8th rnd: Ch 1. *2 sc in next sc. 1 sc in each of next 6 sc. Rep from * around. Join. And so on?
You're very welcome, I'm so happy you've found my video useful 🙂 I've had a look at the pattern for you and yes, that's the method I would use if I wanted to make an even bigger basket. 🙂
Your videos are my go to for the great instructions. I have only just started crocheting and can never get the count right. Joining the end of line and starting a new one. Would this work if I just crocheted in the round? Thanks again
You're welcome, I'm glad you like it 😊 To make a bigger basket I would simply use a bigger hook/thicker yarn - you can even hold two strands of yarn held double. This way you don't need to alter the pattern.
I love these baskets and your tutorials are great. I am going to try to make the base larger and continue with your instructions so I can get the size I want. Wish me luck and if you have any advice please share. Thank you!
Thanks so much for this tutorial. You really helped me to understand reading the pattern. I love the yarn you used. So pretty. I always learn so much from you and your tutorials are lovely and clear and easy to follow. I think I will make these very soon.
You have done a fabulous job in explaining ,esp with reading the patterns. Could u help me decipher this please? With 2 strands of yarn held together, chain or ch 3 (2 chs counts as half double crochet or hdc), hdc 7 times in beg ch (8 hdc)....Thankyou
Thank you, I'm glad you've found my tutorial helpful 😊 The pattern is telling you to make a starting chain of 3, and then work 7 half double crochets (or half treble crochets in UK terms) into the chain furthest from the hook. The 2 skipped chains also count as a stitch, giving you 8 stitches in total. You could also work a magic circle and make 8 half double crochets into the centre.
Bella Coco, I would like to take the time to tell you how much I appreciate your wonderful tutorials. I just don't know how you constantly endure the ignorant questions you constantly get after all the answers were given at the beginning of the tutorial, It almost seems like some of these people don't even know how to look up a yarn to see what the weight is . I'm sorry to vent but it just seems like no one can even think for themselves any more ( helpless and hopeless)
Yes, you can add more rounds to the base before you start the sides of the basket. You can also increase your hook size and use thicker yarn (even two strands held together) and follow the pattern the same 😊
Thank you so much for this tutorial its great. If I wanted to make the base bigger do i just continue going round and increasing the number of single crochet stitches?
Sarah Jayne, your tutorials are so helpful!! I love them..... I wanted to ask if I can use normal wool for this basket or do I have to use a particular type of wool?
Thank you so much 😊 I would recommend using cotton yarn for this one. I can't say exactly how much yarn just for the large basket, but 400g of yarn is enough for all three. You can find more details including the free written pattern on my blog here: bellacococrochet.com/crochet-nesting-baskets/
Sorry this is completely random. Can I make a cardigan for my little one from cotton yarn? I’ve got one of these cones in a different colour way, but just not sure what to do with it. Thank you for another amazing video Xxx
I'm using a different yarn. The yarn suggests a UK 6 hook. When I get to the last 2 rows of the base, the base goes out of shape (wavy). I am by nature a tight crocheter. Should I change the size of my hook or tension....or maybe both?
I would double check your stitch count as normally when crochet goes wavy and out of shape, it’s because there are too many stitches in too small a space. If everything is correct then definitely try adjusting your hook size; it’s always best to let your tools do the work for you 😊

If I wanted to make the basket, bigger, can I keep going with rounds increasing until back loop round starts to make diameter bigger?
Yes, you can add more rounds to the base before you start the sides of the basket. You can also increase your hook size and use thicker yarn (even two strands held together) and follow the pattern the same 😊
omg this is so helpful, thankyouuu so much lovv
