I have witnessed the same thing with a Dane. Lilly seemed a beautiful but brainless goofball until she laid eyes on the baby, and suddenly she had the focus and clarity of a laboratory laser. Dogs are awesome.

I think probably he goes from having no thoughts in his head to understanding all of life every 5 seconds. And at the same time, all is love. He is perfection.

When I was very young I walked into my house and my mother sees me and tries to wipe the dirt of my face until she realized I had developed freckles 🙃
I got a great dane and a hampster they r friends, its funny looking at both of thel together, big and tiny
He's like, "Yeah, these puppies sound and act kinda funny, but I love them." The piglets have such similar markings to Hordor they were so excited to see someone like them ❤ So cute!!

They may be getting the nourishment they need, but cuddling with Hodar gives the parental affection they also need! Reminds me of a children's book called "Are You My Mother?" A baby duck looks from one animal to another to find the parental love he needs 😍

Carley, we had a great dane when I was a baby I am told. She helped me learn to walk. I would grab her and pull up to stand and she would then take tiny steps. She was stolen from our yard so I didn't get to grow up with her.

Great Danes can have a derpy look, but they are smart! They can be stubborn sometimes, but they have a big brain behind those soulful eyes❤️

The only kind of animal that I can think of calling dumb are people who think that they are the center of the universe. Essentially we are mammals and we are related to primates, which by definition makes us part of the animal kingdom too. Seeing these great Danes and the other beings living a safe and happy life gives me hope for a better future for all of them and who knows maybe even for us.
I don't think he is confused. These are youngsters who need comforting...he knows what that feels like. He's a good dog. Of course he is.

Very true! I had a Great Dane who was like that too. He seemed not to think sometimes until it really mattered. Which really just means Danes are more care free but still intelligent.
In the 1980s I was sitting in a friend's breezeway reading when I heard or felt breathing behind me. An elderly great Dane was looking over my shoulder. Turned out he was in the habit of taking long walks around the community and from that day on my friend's house was a regular stop for him. I never heard him bark or make any other sound and he didn't ask for attention but accepted it nonchalantly.
Hodor doesn't view his fellow residents as "different" animals, just as FRIENDS.
We should ALL be like Hodor :-)
He stands next to the big animals, looking like, “Am I what you are??” It’s like he’s never stood eye to eye with another animal, which I’m sure most great danes don’t get to do often.

@@Simplythetruthfulone I knew a Dane that lived on our block. When he stood on his hind legs he was noticeably taller then the 6' wall.
The second Dane looks like there is an issue with his back legs but it doesn’t seem to hinder his playing with his big brother. Thank you for all you do with rescues.

A friend worked at the local shelter when they were getting ready to retire (euthanasia) the house mascot, a massive 13 yo great Dane, Ernie. So he brought Ernie home to his little family. They had a toddler and an infant. Grandma was with the kids outside when she grabbed the toddler to scold him. Ernie calmly walked over and took her entire elbow in his mouth and waited for her to let go of Joey. She did, and Ernie let go, too. He then briefly apologized to her and went to check on his boy. Grandma was a bit stunned, not sure whether she should be terrified of the dog or thrilled to pieces by his gentle, firm protectiveness. I have loving memoties of that big, sweet dog.

This is just the sweetest story that I've seen. He's become the "Den Mother" of your santuary. I love it! You were so right to get another Great Dane. He almost seems like a puppy too. He is just so beautiful. Thank you for doing what you do.

The piglets were probably used to climbing into a cage or enclosed space to nurse from their mom when they were younger, who would have been laying on her side like that. Adorable that Hodor gets along with everyone, takes care of the smaller animals, and now has a Great Dane brother to play with! Thank you for rescuing these sweet animals, and giving them a forever home! 💝

I've known a few and they are lovely dogs but they have the significant drawback of having shorter life spans than smaller dogs so do bear that in mind.

Maybe everyone gets along with each other as there is an overwhelming sense in all the animals that they have been given a second chance , to live their lives their way without fear, misUSE, abuse or distrust as they can rely on those people and non people around them to protect and take care of them

I swear she said he was kind of dumb I think he's intelligent he loves everybody and wants to make everybody his friend he wants to make sure all his friends are loved and comforted and he doesn't care what they look like he loves them because they're his friends I think he's awesome and people could learn a lot from animals cuz I don't judge each other on the color of further wearing or what type they are they just love each other no matter what usually
That irked me as well. Calling any animal "dumb" is just wrong and insulting.
“Dumb” is a perfectly apt descriptor if you’re familiar with highly intelligent dogs. Most easygoing dogs (or any domesticated animal really) lack a certain ‘spark’ of intelligence that generally expresses as mischievousness or obstinacy. That’s a good thing for a lot of people and is often selected for when breeding calm, low-energy, generally obedient animals.
Dogs don’t have feelings about being labeled. It’s okay to be honest.
@@vysharra Here's some honesty for you. Breeders consider animals dumb so they can continue exploiting them and making money off their backs. Just because you're a predator doesn't make you the superior species. It just makes you dumb and greedy. Animals put you to shame.

I don't believe that a great Dane is dumb he just didn't realize that he'd get that big, so once he finally got next to a bull Hordor started to like everyone and everything but when he is mom had got some piglets after she had fed Hordor she put him in his crate the piglets could actually squeeze into his crate. Great Danes are the best. I will never forget mine that I had for 13 years!!!! she was a gentle and loving Dane, and I still miss her, 30 years later....
As a vegetarian, it's so heartwarming to see how some people treat and keep them as pets and view them as friends and not food and Hodor is such a big softie! Absolutely Adorable 🥰🥰
