I saw in in 1977 six months before he passed. He had gained at, but he was magnificent! I loved him as long had I can remember, even as a little girl. I was blessed to have seen him, still listen to him and love to look at him. What a man!
I know I've said it somewhere before this comment, but I must again. This is the greatest live performance ever. Period. This is a 36 year old man, gone from the music scene for a long while thanks to Uncle Sam and Colonel Parker and his dream of Elvis as a movie star. I've seen most all of them, rock and roll speaking, the Stones, Queen with Freddie, Jethro Tull, on and on. This performance puts every other one to second place at maximum. They didn't call him the King for nothing you know...thank you Elvis Presley for changing the world forever, in a great way...RIP ELVIS PRESLEY
I agree with you that "This is the greatest live performance ever" among popular music and rock and roll singers. In fact, we have an unimpeachable authority on the quality of this performance: none other than Paul Simon, the composer and original singer of this song (along with Art Garfunkel) was blown away when he saw video of this. He considered it the best version out of hundreds of covers, and said something like, "How can you compete with that?"
Yes, that is the greatest miracle of ELVIS. How can He be so alive when seen and heard on videos, He is still able to sweep us off our feet and fall under his irresistible spell. A POWERFUL SPELL that seems to live on and on, Forever.

his singing teacher in school said he couldn’t sing , he proved her wrong and became the greatest entertainer who ever lived , no one will ever come close to the king . Fr Canada 🇨🇦
When I get upset about life I watch Elvis sing and remember that he was such a wonderful man and I try hard to keep a good heart because that's what I loved about him the most his beautiful heart❤I still cry because I miss him so dearly
He was the greatest entertainer that ever lived ,besides the most gorgeous beautiful sexy man I have ever seen. I loved him then and I love him still today.🥰🥰😘👅💋💋👀❤️❤️❤️❤️
I agree. Fullness. Depth. Warmth. Could hit highs and lows. Probably in such good shape he could make low tones audible where others couldn't. I know opera singers personally and they both rave about his skills.
...and is able to recognize that this is sung by a man who laid himself down like a bridge over troubled water for so many people that surrounded him, and people he met and who were in need. Elvis needed such a bridge but the bridges were always too short and not wide enough to ease his mind and pain for a longer period of time. So he helped himself, as well and as often as he could, by being that bridge for others.
God almighty. His voice was just beyond anything that anyone else can produce. He can be delicate, warm and then blow the back wall down. A gorgeous arrangement, too. Perfect.
Got you beat. I am 72 and was going to his movies at age ten. I loved Elvis. I was at my mom's house when we heard on the radio that he had died. We were both so sad...
For you youngsters that listen to music from the 80's until now. You have just witnessed the finest entertainer to ever grace the earth. You should have noticed by now that the voice is crystal clear and you can understand the words, and the music has tune and rhythm. Enjoy while you still can.
its not a question over who was better than who or who did the greatest this or that.its just a fine performance in a soulfull way from someone who people dont really know his immense quality and the stuff he recorded such as countless blues and gospel tracks
"You have just witnessed the finest entertainer to ever grace the earth." - Woah hold your horses, that is YOUR subjective meaning. I completely disagree with this statement. "You should have noticed by now that the voice is crystal clear" - Actually this is NOT crystal clear, at least not in my ears. Too much vibrato if I might add. If there is something that's *crystal* clear it's the horns and the piano playing.
But at the same time you can see he's not forcing it, he's having fun, smiling, even if he misses a tone or anything he just goes with it.. Natural talent
@@mullaoslo Before every concert elvis would go over and over again to get it done right he band said it had to be perfect not good perfect he would rehearse for weeks and hours to get it rite he pleased fans not just a show he meant it
I LOVE the wording of your comment...except I wish you would’ve said “King Of Music!” As Elvis said “There is only one King! I am just an entertainer!” 😁
This is an outstanding performance, simply the best, but to say that Elvis "never walked through a song" is a bit of a stretch. In many of his concerts in the 1970s he would quickly "walk through" some of the original big hits from the 1950s like Hound Dog, All Shook Up, etc. because fans still wanted to hear those songs but he didn't want to spend much energy or time on them.
You're absolutely right, there's no one better than this man. I'm a classical musician and don't know about any non-classical singer who could reach even Elvis' feet.
I’m over 60 and feel it , at least in my bod - feel 30 in mind ! One of the first songs that I can remember hearing was from Elvis and I’ve been a fan ever since . Never got to see him live , wish I could’ve . I was 14 myself when Elvis came to KC - I lived 50 miles north . Dad said I was too young to try to go that there’d be another time . Unfortunately , there wasn’t . He is the GOAT !!!
That is so very true I am 54 years old and I have not seen or heard of no one doing WHAT ELVIS PRESLEY at all R.I.P HIS MOM & DAD AND THE REST OF THE PRESLEY FAMILY

All those who love good music from a man who knew how to communicate and transmit hope and love to a wicked world which destroyed him. RIP Elvis you are one-off, much loved and missed.
Today we think back to the day the World stood still : 16th August 1977, Elvis Presley had died. I was 18. I was devastated, I cried a lot, bought more of his records... He was loved in my Country. Even the older folks liked Elvis because he sang beautiful gospel songs. Thank you Elvis for the legacy you left behind. You will never be forgotten. ✝️🙏🎧🎶🇿🇦🌍😥❤️

I am Chinese born and a fan from 1958 to now...close to 60 years. During this time many great entertainers have appeared. Beatles, Stones, BGees, Roy Orbison,Michael Jackson and others. I especially loved Abba. But truly I believe none can come close to Elvis. He was just special and even the other greats must agree as many of them have done publicly. There will not be another one like him and for sure not in my life time. He is America's greatest gift to the world.
Persona Email: As I stated in my initial comment, a Professor of music attributed Elvis' extraordinary vocals to where his vocal registers were placed. We know vocal register placement is determined during 9 month pregnancy. If one believes (and I do), in divinity, then God chose to give Elvis those vocals for a divine purpose and we will never know that exact, specific divine purpose.

He was one in a 1 trillion.....we might not see another human being bring so much to the table for another 1000 years. Incredible in every way.
HE CAN & HE DID Paul is a very humble man. and his music ALLOWS us to do these amazing covers he was VERY complimentary to disturbed version of sound of silence YES I agree that this Elvis version is AMAZING but I prefer the original by the person who wrote it , and Paul got a fat check every time Elvis performed it .
@@sixfoursoul2538 There isn't "an original by the person who wrote it" dummy...Paul wrote it Art Garfunkel sang it. So you're basically talking out your "preferred" ass
There are very few songs Elvis covered that were not better than the original the only one i can think of is Bob Dylans tomorrow is a long time. Unfortunately Dylan's version is better in my opinion. But ANY OTHER SONG Elvis EVER covered was 1000x better than the original!!! #facts!
There will never be another Elvis. He was everything. Beauty, voice, charisma, talent, generous heart and a stage presence and entertainer that can never be matched. He is missed.
I’m only 20 years old now, my mother has brought me up with Elvis. Not a day goes by where he hasn’t been playing throughout my childhood. I am deeply moved by him. What a truly one of a kind talent and man. Rest peacefully King.
@Rach, research Pastor Bob Joyce and let me know what you think😉 Elvis has always loved the Lord, & he wanted out of the lifestyle he was living. If you go to his church, he sings there, but please be respectful and do not ask him if he is Elvis. The Lord has made all things new for him & that's the way he wants it. God bless him.❤
@@debbieg217 I have seen these rumours before but he loved his little girl so much and would not have ever left her and allowed her to mourn for him! @@deadpoetstodd agreed! I know people desperately want to believe he is alive but what they don't fully realise is that Elvis is still with us. Not in a physical disguise as another person but his spirit is still very much part of this world. Every time we play his music, watch his films, 'attend' his live performances we are continuing to mark his territory on this world. The biopic has brought Elvis completely into my life. Prior to that, he was on the sidelines as someone who had some good songs that I liked but now - my soul has been burst wide open! Honestly, because I have playing his music daily, watching his films and re-learning to play guitar - I feel Elvis giving me a sense of peace, contentment and motivation that I did not realise I was missing. I'm going through cancer at the moment and if I don't make it I will have this song at my funeral...what a voice...I've never heard this song sung so amazing

@James: Ich kann das verstehen. In meinen schlechten Zeiten gab mir Elvis sehr viel Kraft. That's exactly what Elvis wanted. Elvis greatest wish was that he wanted to make people happy.
Nothing comforts me more than hearing Elvis sing this song. It is exquisite. No other vocalist compares. He was a musical genius moved by God. Even Paul Simon was floored.
UGH the last note!!! OMG!!! He was INCREDIBLE!!!!! Listen to the very last word...just one word... MIND and his voice!!! This is THE BEST version of this song EVER!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤
The 3:00 part to the end is my favorite part. Gosh it's just amazing the way he sings. My mom would play his music and we watched this on VHS. It takes me back to when she was alive . Elvis was just a gift to this world that you will never see again. You just watch him sing and get drawn in.
That is a regret of my life never having seen him in person. As great as he was on record, it is the live performance that puts him over the top as the greatest entertainer of the 20th century. It had to be unbelievable to have seen him in person and in his prime (1968-1971).
Carolyn Wright: My wife and I retired (while living in Ohio, USA) in 2001 and purchased a winter home in Florida where we lived 9-10 months every year (until 2017). Charlie Hodge was the man who gave Elvis his scarves, water, etc., and unknown to many people, Charlie was professionally voice trained and also normally sang high harmony with Elvis. Until charlie passed away in 2006, we ALWAYS stopped by "Memories Theatre" in Pigeon Forge, Tenn. to see Charlie because Charlie appeared EVERY night they had an Elvis impersonator. Charlie was a very down to earth man and loved talking about his life with Elvis to you if you desired. One memorable statement Charlie told my wife and I was that Elvis would sometimes sing bass (1 octave above JD - JD normally sang 2 octaves below middle C) just to show JD Sumner that he (Elvis) could also sing bass if he wanted. Charlie also said that sometimes in live performances, Elvis without warning, would sing the high part of harmony, forcing him (Charlie) to sing the low part. Charlie said he knew deep down inside that Elvis purposely did that just so he (Elvis) could show Charlie that he (Elvis) could also sing the high lead if he desired. Thank you.
I, too, am from Ohio, but have been in Florida for far too many years.....another whole story. I got to see Charlie in Cincinnati in 1978 with my mother at an Elvis convention. What a treat! He was a gem and I really enjoyed the conversation. He really was interested in talking about his life with Elvis. It seemed that Charlie was a true friend and Elvis did depend on him for your list above. Charlie surely seemed dedicated to Elvis. I only found out recently that Charlie had passed away. I'm so sorry I never got to see him again. Meeting him is and always will be a cherished memory.
Love this story, he had a vocal range that mesmerizes me from the time he started out to the day he finished! Music was his gift across the globe, I live in the UK where his style, looks, and music in the 1950s/1960s influenced the Beatles, Rolling Stones, and many many others. The music was so different, so energetic, so exciting from what had gone before that young kids at the time were simply spell-bound!
Elvis had the smoothest most powerful voice of all time. He was a gift to us from God. Elvis could sing the phone book and it would sound great. If he was to sing a menu people would want to eat. Long live the music and magic of the GREATEST ENTERTAINER OF ALL TIME. We love you Elvis.
+Janice Lyons -- I agree. This version is superior to the version found on the album, "That's The Way It Is". He seems to have more control of his voice in this clip. BTW, can anyone tell me where this clip came from? Also, was this live performance ever put to vinyl? Thanks.
I've heard quite of few people sang this heartfelt song and they all did good. But, the voice of Elvis Presley is much more stronger and powerful. He sang it perfectly. I can listen to Elvis all day every day!!. This man is/was AWESOME.
His voice could go from soft velvet to the most powerful baritone in s second. It is truly incredible to listen to him sing those songs that really spoke to his soul. I'm not a believer but he brings me to tears when he sings Gospel music.

Close your eyes folks and go back in a time machine to that period when Elvis sang this live and you are part of the audience. That’s how good this version is.
I saw Elvis live 2 times in 1955. Then, he was more about cutting-up and rocking and rolling on the stage for the people than trying hard to demonstrate a great voice. But, as he got older, his voice got much better with deeper resonance. He was an absolutely amazing singer and on-stage performer, NOBODY CLOSE. I do not know any performer that was liked by a broad spectrum of people as Elvis was. NOBODY.
Albert you're a very lucky man. I'd kill to be have seen Elvis in those early days. My hero.. I've sat on his loo in Bad Nauhiem but not made it to the US yet...
The early Elvis was more R & B oriented but he was always a great balladeer. His voice didn’t change over the years - his material did. The rock n roll used the upper register of his voice. Later on, he sang more gospel and ballads and this used the lower end of his range more. He had an enormous range for a popular music singer, more than two full octaves. He had a truly operatic voice. With his looks and his voice, he could have been a huge opera star if he had gone in that direction. Listen to It’s Now or Never.
Legend : there will never be another singer as gifted as this guy, died young and what a tragedy but nobody can match him for the short time he was on this planet.
Yes. 100% correct. In a very very short life and career, he left behind a critically acclaimed body of work in the recording studio in multiple genres of music. An iconic artist, the likes of which may never be seen again.
He had more than his voice, his looks his charisma. He had something that transented all those things. he just had a presence an energy that was almost bigger than life. i cant quite figure out. i think this performance is the best ever. i actually got a little misty eyed, and got goose bumps. does anyone think the same way?
Chuck Masters he was all the stars put in the one he is Marlon Brando James Dean Evel Knievel Paul Newman he had all those characteristics in one person with a golden voice he had pretty boy and tough guy looks that was Mass Appeal to everyone it's hard to figure out about Elvis Charisma but that's what it was to me and all Charisma in one charisma outstanding thank you

You dumb fucking clown? Do you not see MONEY causes all DEATHS!!! You fucking retard!!!!
Thank you.
@AgenorGracindoDeOliveira Period!! I love that quote. ❤️❤️
It's 2024 and Elvis still have us completely mesmerized. What a gift.
Psychologist that's it! The magic word "mesmerized" . I am mesmerized by Elvis!
Yes, that is the greatest miracle of ELVIS. How can He be so alive when seen and heard on videos, He is still able to sweep us off our feet and fall under his irresistible spell. A POWERFUL SPELL that seems to live on and on, Forever.

...and is able to recognize that this is sung by a man who laid himself down like a bridge over troubled water for so many people that surrounded him, and people he met and who were in need.
Elvis needed such a bridge but the bridges were always too short and not wide enough to ease his mind and pain for a longer period of time.
So he helped himself, as well and as often as he could, by being that bridge for others.
Me, almost 50 years fan of Elvis! Still my favourite .....

He never walked through a song, gave it his all. 100 yrs from now he'll still be KING.
But at the same time you can see he's not forcing it, he's having fun, smiling, even if he misses a tone or anything he just goes with it.. Natural talent

That is a regret of my life never having seen him in person. As great as he was on record, it is the live performance that puts him over the top as the greatest entertainer of the 20th century. It had to be unbelievable to have seen him in person and in his prime (1968-1971).
His voice was angelic, not even mentioning his looks. WOW

I dont believe in the gates or a great bearded man. with his son at his heel either. But what holds it all together?
How lucky you are to see him at least once!
Amen. Elvis would haved loved that....
Freddie.
Legend : there will never be another singer as gifted as this guy, died young and what a tragedy but nobody can match him for the short time he was on this planet.
I watch him I grew up w him my kids my grandkids such a beautiful voice takes u there to that place
Yes. 100% correct.
In a very very short life and career, he left behind a critically acclaimed body of work in the recording studio in multiple genres of music. An iconic artist, the likes of which may never be seen again.
You're absolutely right my best friend always listened to Elvis he's gone to heaven he is with the king

I have to agree hole heartily. As I have said so many times no one has or ever will come even close to this man in his singing, professionality,or his looks. Everything wrapped into one man . He left us way too soon but the man couldn't even buy a paper without being torn to shreds.
Mother passed away tonight. I dedicate this song to her and the memories I have. God Speed Mom.
✌
God Bless
So sorry, Rick. Hug. You couldnt have chosen a more beautiful song.
So sorry for your loss❤️

I love Elvis, his voice is pure gold I'm 24 so it may sound strange but I'm sorry no one from my generation can even compare to Elvis. He sang with pure soul and heart which is very very rare, and listening to his music makes me super calm his voice as I said is pure gold.

There has never been a singer as brilliant and wonderful as Elvis before or since. Eternal king!
