I am not a big fan of MMORPG's so I have never heard of this game until today but I gotta say there is something beautiful about the fans gathering like this and say good bye to each other and the world they have come to know and love. It is the end of the world, thankfully it's only a digital world but it's the end of the world none the less. Thanks for sharing this last moment with the general public!

My mom never complained when I played computer after that cause I paid for the electric bill that month, took the family out to dinner and still had money to buy a skateboard. My heart sunk when I heard AC was closing shop. I have very fond memories of Dereth....... Viva Asheron's Call!
Lies. First, the game came out in 1999, and it was in November of that year. Someone who Played it at the begining should remember this, and certainly would not use "in the 90s". There was no AC summer that was in the 90ties, not even in 99 ... Secondly, in the begining of the game, it took way more than just a summer to go to over level 80. The xp flow was slow in the first year of ACs existence, it's only much later that they added bigger XP sources. The first lvl 126 (which was the max level then) took a full year to get there ! And he had a lot of vassal XP to help him. He took about 6 months to get to level 80.
Never have I felt such chills at the death of a video game, my dad has pictures of me sitting on his lap in the early years of my life watching him play. Years later I started my own account and maxed out some characters. This game is ingrained in my existence and will always be part of me.
I have never played AC before...but when everyone was logged out like that...that gave me the chills so badly. Very sad. Amazing to see. Thank you for posting.

I was Brutality' on this server, I lost my laptop back in 2014, and hadnt been back since, I found out that AC had closed its door for good today when I went to renew my subscription again on my 3 accounts. Rob Williams yeah the private servers been a blast, I currently play on one called relic dawn. It’s not as populated as the others but it’s been getting more and more people everyday. Currently in the works towards a mansion. Already have a tinkerer and nearly got a bit set up. But yeah it’s pretty close to endgame minus the legendaries and some content. But ya can make epic suits at least

Private servers are alive and well. I play on Levistras, which is a strict no-bot server. There are many to choose from though, including some with custom content or content locked in time (eg: what the game was like when Dark Majesty released). Man that sucks. Granted I don't play often but I have come back every few months for 15 years. A buddy of mine was telling me I should twitch stream some AC so I figured I'd fire it up for some ol' Chorozite mining and found I couldn't log in.
So sad. This was such a great game. The first MMO experience for me was when I was around 10 years old (partying it up in 1999) killing Drudge and Banderlings with my ranger. RIP AC. =(
I played this game one summer, and barely left my chair the entire summer. Towards the end of summer I went to Summer training for football. I was the fastest guy in the team running a mile less than 6 Mins. After sitting in that chair all summer I ended up being the slowest guy on the team even the linemen could run faster than me, thanks to not being able to bend my knees. Took me months to recover.
I remember playing on thistledown and saying hmm my wife wants to play why not start together on the new world Solclaim then she hated it I told her not to play a mage because she doesn't have the patience to level slowly.
Wow was built on a much bigger platform with different expectations... AC could have lasted forever but the Devs were obsessed with creating other similar products
well it was a great game for its time. I must admit, I left it back in 03. However recently I returned. The game was dated by a long shot but for me, it played just fine and as I remembered it. I got sucked into World of warcraft briefly but this game will always be my favorite and when it went free to play for 50 years, I thought it would be just that. But I guess we got robbed. Let it be a lesson to people, don't over invest in a game. I reckon there were people out there who genuinely wept about it's demise. People who had played it from the beginning and stayed with it. However its a game after all and when i originally got into it I knew as soon as it stops making money a company will pull the plug. I'd like to think though there will be a backlash no matter how small against WB. I for one won't be buying anything from them ever. Period! and I'll also pass that on to my friends and family

You are a perfect example of how crazy the world is becoming, when you go absolutely apeshit over a notification. People can't handle a sliver of inconvenience nowadays without pouting about it. Tweak your notification settings? I never get notified for irrelevant videos, just videos I choose to "watch later".

Wow Killed this game. I remember the day it came out I was on caul, and there used to be 7-8 Full groups out there leveling. That day we could barely get one group going. I asked what was going on and they told me 2 new games had been released Anarchy Online ( I think) and World of Warcraft. AC was never the same.
I agree. I'd love to say things should change in the future, but I doubt it. Companies only care about one thing, and that's profits. Once those disappear, they act like the game never existed. I am glad AC at least has player-run servers. I have not played them myself, but I like knowing they are there for when time frees up.

I am leaning towards Guild Wars 2, but I need to take a break and focus on work. Have played AC so much this past month, soaking in what was left!
I suggest either GW2 or BDO. Both are very fun games with lots of hours of gameplay.
