    Best MMO ever made. Period. Unfortunately quite out-dated these days, and honestly, it's a darn shame that Turbine is still charging monthly for this. If they made it free, or update the graphic engine, I would go back to it in a heart beat. I'm sure most other original AC players would as well. I'm baffled that the enormous MMORPG market hasn't been able to, in over 10 years, come close to matching how fun this game was in it's prime.

      Yes you are right. WOW came close but to many limits and everyone looks the same..random loot makes the game better..

    This is a very good overview. You start by explaining whats different about it compare to other, and you focus on the gameplay. I wish more reviewers would fallow this as example how to review so I wouldn't have to spend so much time searching for a decent mmo.

    I played Asherson's Call for over 2 years at release and your video brought delightful nostalgia. Thanks for the throw back! Now just to find AC2 and Shadowbane vids and my quest for feeling old will be complete!

    I remember one time getting lost in a raining swamp and having to go find three corpses with a buddy of mine. And of course going to get the black fire stone for my Atlan sword! Those were the days man... thanks for bringing back the memories

    AC is by far the best MMO I've ever played, and I've literally played other MMO's out there in the market. Having played this game when it first came out until I left after the end of the shadow war, no other game out there can compete.
    It was truly revolutionary; the combat system, customization, social aspect...AC had it all.
    Unfortunately, there aren't many players anymore but AC will always be #1 on my list... it's kidna like how other wow players miss vanilla/BC wow... AC is just like that!

  • @gregmossed
    @gregmossed 15 ปีที่แล้ว

    That's a very nice video. AC was my first MMO and I played for 4+ years. It'll always have a big warm fuzzy place in my heart.
    I'm really glad you pointed out how run/jump change the game. You'll never get an evade bug in AC, you'll just be rewarded for creativity! (I miss you, Mario dungeons!)

    Literally the best game I have ever played.
    ... I've been gaming since 1988 so that is saying a lot!

  • @Kazaaka

    Turbine announced they will be ceasing future content for AC. They will remove the monthly subscription fee.
    Before the end of the year they hope to turn Asheron's Call over to the community to run our own servers and create our own content.
    This is probably the most amazing thing I've heard in a while. Asheron's Call is so dear to my heart. It was my first MMORPG. I've played it on off since the open beta.
    Turbine will not be closing down AC, they want it to live on forever. And as long as it exists, I will come back to it and reexperience it's greatness all over again.

    That's because you obviously haven't played asheron's call. Arguably the best MMO of it's generation and my favorite MMO of all time. It doesn't hand feed you everything like the MMO's of today.

    I never understood the idea that a game is awful based on its graphical environment and models.

  • @tndStudios
    @tndStudios  15 ปีที่แล้ว

    Definitely. With all the time AC has had to develop, many different gameplay options are now available. Now you can do quests, kill tasks and hunt for trophies instead of grinding but for those 1337 p0\/\/3r gamers, you can still grind if it suits your fancy... personally I find that way, way too dull. Later, I plan on making a video that shows just what I'm talking about in regards to the many different ways to go about leveling.

    This game is Godmode. Ive played all kinds of games and I always think of this one. It brings back the best nostalgic memories and the community/Turbine functioned almost perfectly.
    We should all remember that this game paved the way for the uninspired ultra-popular MMOs we have now.

  • @Steelfrogmedia

    I miss this game. So. Much. It's by far the best MMO I've ever played. Sure, it's dated as hell now, but man, at it's time, it was simply awesome.

  • @ahmedalhassan69

    You are 500% right. This game was much, much better than the current league of games, other than the graphics issue. I doubt the complexity of this game will be matched in the near future.

  • @Notir072
    @Notir072 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    Well done !!
    I loved AC. The only problem , and that's why i don't play it anymore, is that it's rather empty now, and it isn't anymore what it was once, like in the 2 first years.
    They should reset levels from everyone , forbidd combat macros, raise a bit patron/vassal pass-up again, not like it was once, to prevent xp-chains, but enough to passup to your patron's patron (so we can level our 2nd char at least ;) )

  • @tndStudios
    @tndStudios  15 ปีที่แล้ว

    While I can agree with the price, I can at least say this: The value you get from that 13/mo is much higher than that for any other mmorpg simply because of the sheer amount of content available. That combined with the depth that this game has makes it worth the price of admission. Many people however favor eye candy over content, so its really a simple matter of preference.

  • @tndStudios
    @tndStudios  15 ปีที่แล้ว

    Definitely worth trying, and a free trial account is available. You may need to take some time to get used to how the game works though, because it is vastly different from all the other mmorpgs. All I can say is take my advice on character creation and make sure the skills you pick correspond with your primary attributes to a degree. For your first server I'd recommend Frostfell as it is the most populated, if you say you are new, people will swarm to help you.

  • @tndStudios
    @tndStudios  15 ปีที่แล้ว

    I can agree with that. Unfortunately they never implemented tech to limit how high level buffs you can get as a certain level. You can do well without VII enchantments, you just have to know where to find the right items (IE: Explorer Armor, quest items to fill in protection/skill gaps, or having a high endurance character to negate need for life protections initially).

  • @tndStudios
    @tndStudios  15 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yes. Every server (except for darktide) has "buff bots" where you can give them commands to benefit from their high level spells. They are not required of course but make leveling up convenient. The challenge is still there, you just fight harder monsters instead until you can get those enchantments yourself via items or own spells.
    As for the number of players, across all servers there are about 1200 people still playing give or take... The majority residing in Frostfell and Darktide.

  • @tndStudios
    @tndStudios  15 ปีที่แล้ว

    I was actually surprised when I came back to find that Darktide is the most populated server now... DT used to be a ghost town. I guess since the average player in AC is a veteran, interest in PvP has increased.

  • @kxmode
    @kxmode 15 ปีที่แล้ว

    A video would be great! Could the bulk of the video cover the leveling process by way of quests, kill tasks, and trophies? I don't remember those when I was playing. Do you know of any leveling guides that shows where to go, what to do, in an efficient way. That would be cool! :)

  • @tndStudios
    @tndStudios  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    That's the main reason they added things like the quest hub, the new "starter" quests, and updates to the character creation system to include better descriptions and explanations of skills.
    Not to mention the town network which allows you to get anywhere from anywhere now... if anything, the game is actually much, much simpler than it was 5+ years ago (in a good way).

  • @tndStudios
    @tndStudios  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @DesertSmeagle Players are not always stuck in the roles they play when they create a character. In AC its always a choice between versatility and focus. In many cases, certain situations can give certain characters an edge. Some character setups made by people are terrible solo but really shine in groups (IE: a specialized life casting character without war magic). Most of the time, what is "gimp" is really just a matter of opinion rather than fact.

  • @Johnsen1972
    @Johnsen1972 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    been playing AC for about 5 years until Horizon MMO and WOW got released, It was an awesome game ;) I still have a level 211 Sword melee tank and a level 180 Mage!

  • @rsmalec
    @rsmalec 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    There are days I really miss this game. Do they still have the tutorial pyramids near starting towns?

  • @tndStudios
    @tndStudios  15 ปีที่แล้ว

    In some cases it can be easy to gimp yourself. For example, if you choose attributes then later find that few of your skills use them... you'll end up with a weak character. Sometimes it's a matter of how versatile you want to make your avatar. Some monsters are easier to hit with missile weapons than melee, others resist magic... so you can train both skills at the cost of a few extra points. Maybe you want a mage who can also use a xbow/dagger as a backup weapon. Experimenting is half the fun.

  • @Rhubarf
    @Rhubarf 15 ปีที่แล้ว

    slowly getting skill points while levelling and easily relocating them with a fee of money is a more encouraging way of experimenting. Having to do most of it while creating your character when you'd rather just log on and explore the world and then having to go to a temple to relocate seem tedious.
    It is nice to see your passion about such an old game even though there is an AC2 and all these newer MMORPGs

    @arowara1 If you locate the Asheron's Call unofficial Wiki (youtube doesn't allow text links), check out the plugins link and scroll down to the "Minimap" plugin. That allows dungeon and interior walls to be visible in the radar. Its a great plugin that really should be incorporated into the game rather than requiring download.

  • @tndStudios
    @tndStudios  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @elydawat DDO isn't a bad game, but it lacks a lot of features that I like to see in any game. Freedom of movement is the most important, your character feels slow and rigid in DDO and most other MMORPGs. Movement, timing and evasion is so critical in AC that it demands player skill rather than just your in-game character's skills.

  • @tndStudios
    @tndStudios  15 ปีที่แล้ว

    Try the ac wiki site and look for the level guide link on the front page. Thats a good start for you, but it is a very, very incomplete list that leaves out a lot of other options. My video will be posted there once I get around to making it. As for the citadels you're right, they made the lugians stronger and sprinkled in some hollow wielding ones to make matters worse. On the upside, their loot profile is nice, especially if your hunting for metal-type salvages.

  • @tndStudios
    @tndStudios  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @zeroblackcat1 To put it simply, you can do just as well through questing as you can through "grinding" now. The developers introduced a quest hub that basically guides you through the first 45 lvls that your character will earn, its a nice feature but its not mandatory. Find a good spot and grind away if you like, there are plenty of them and i'm sure asking a player in game would yield you some options. I don't have enough space to detail that here though.

    World of Warcraft AOE farming.
    I used to play AC. Got a Level 275 War/Magic D spec'd mage, and a Level 240 Bow/Life Archer. and a 200 Tinkerer. Quit after the WoW bug hit me in 05. I still say AC has the best mechanics out there though.

    @BuhRanDoh The game is ran by Turbine. They have several, newer and greatly more populated games. So, naturally, they are focusing on those games, trying to make them better. They still update the game, not frequently mind you, but often enough. However, it costs money to upgrade graphics. And since the games community has diminished greatly over the years, they see no reason to update things like graphics. Its the basic mechanics of running an MMO company, update what appeals to most.

    Oh one other thing I remember when I reactivated my account. I logged into Qalaba'r. I decided to hit my favorite dungeon Lugian Citadel. On the run there I noticed most of the mobs where in there 80s and higher. This was new. The mobs surrounding Qalaba'r used to be in the mid 30s (if memory serves). Has Turbine changed this?

    I really think if Turbine made an updated version of AC (streamlined a bit, incorporating a lot of the current add-ons, mini-map would be nice, quest log of sorts, even if I like the system of being able to do a lot of quests without having to talk to an NPC first.) it could do quite well. There's no game quite like it today.
    I wouldn't even mind so much if they made it an outright remake, re-using and rebalancing a lot of the current content, considering how much of it there is. I miss AC.

    I've played UO, DAOC, WOW, WAR, GW, SWG, SB, and a bunch of trashy FTP, and I will say, without a shadow of a doubt, Asheron's Call is the best MMO I have ever played, ever. AC was made way ahead of its, time, these new cookie cutter MMO's are backwards and primitive compared to the genius of AC.

    @elydawat DDO is severely restricted compared to AC (funny that Turbine develops both). The reason I like DDO is because I'm a fan of the d20 system, however, it's undeniable that AC is infinitely superior than DDO in pretty much every other respect. Not to mention the massive and wide-spread dumbing down for the masses that has been implemented since going F2P.
    We could only hope for the open-world, freedom of movement and immense array of skills and character customization than AC has.

    City of Heroes is the only other MMO I've stuck with, mostly because I love superheroes.

    @Fergulix there was some graphics updates, nothing really major. What you should come back for is the massive content thats been implemented in the last 10+ years

    @holysab7 Considering they claimed AC would shut down 7 years ago and every year since then (much like those end-of-the-world predictions for mankind), I'd think it's pretty safe to say the developers know what they are doing.
