  • We do a very deep clean on a mini split here and you'll be surprised just how much stuff comes out of it given how it doesn't look all that dirty to begin with. We did this job for free.

    Christine called the company out that I believe installed the system for a regular service. They told her that the mini split heads needed cleaning and offered to perform the service at $1500 a head. Yes you read that right, $1500. She paid them for one as they did it immediately and then they were supposed to return another day to do the one that we cleaned in this video. She did some research online and realized that perhaps she had overpaid for the service and so she decided to try to find another company. She found us on the Mitsubishi website and after speaking on the phone with me decided to have us out to clean the other mini split head. She was planning on paying for this service. I felt bad for her that she had been ripped off and so decided to not charge her for the cleaning. We are going to return to clean her furnace as she's been using a washable filter for 10 years and that's what I was referencing at the end when I said she could pay us for that service. Sometimes it's not about money.

    Good job guys! Not too many people take to the time to strip down and deep clean a mini-split.
    For units that require a little more pressure to get clean, i recommend picking up a turbo tank from nu-calgon, they are really ideal for cleaning mini splits like this. They got just the right amount of pressure and a 90 degree tip that can really get under the coil. I think the new ones can run on most drill batteries plus it would also be great for getting the sand off your feet after an early morning paddle out!

      I have a battery powered pump sprayer I just misplace the charger for the battery. I have heard good things about a lot of other sprayers though

    I used to pull mini splits apart but I think they get just as clean with the bib kit and HVAC power washer. My opinion. It was nice of you to not charge her. Customer for life ❤

      I got a Speedclean Coiljet just so I would not have to pull the blower wheel on ductless splits to clean it.
      Real time saver, and no risk from moving the coil around.

    Youre a good dude for doing that. 1500 is rediculous for the cleaning of a head unit.

    • @SurfBrosHVAC
      @SurfBrosHVAC  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yeah it's because they are flat rate and don't differentiate between unitary and mini splits. Their price for the blower wheel is $387 and their price for the evaporator coil is $1100 something. That price is steep but I guess justifiable for a unitary system with a really hard to access evaporator coil. For a mini split it's just insane. It was ASI.

    What happened to that poor lady is exactly the reason why I started doing my own HVAC for my property. Some HVAC scammer tried to tell me he couldn't work on my heat pump and needed to charge me $600 to rotate the outdoor unit 90 degrees in order to access the service panel. Never mind the fact that it had been serviced with no issue for over a decade.
    Ever since investing the thousands in tools and education (and EPA cert of course) I haven't looked back.
    There are of course good companies and honest techs out there, but the scammers make HVAC techs out to be just about as bad as a used car salesman.
