Thank goodness for Goodman!

We have a 20 year old unit with a 6 year old capacitor still going strong, it’s a MARS made in the USA. Now they’re made in Mexico, few months ago, the contact switch went bad. but I replaced the capacitor with an Amazon FOCSPROD capacitor and it only lasted a few months. The other day is was 107 and the AC went out. I thought it was the compressor or fan motor but I went ahead and put the old MARS capacitor back on, thank goodness I kept it. It started right up and house is cold. I can’t believe it either. So I am definitely going to buy another Mars capacitor but will try and find some old stock on eBay. I am blown away that 6 year old capacitor is still working. MARS is good

I have a trane heat pump packaged unit & i have 3 disconnects boxes on side of the house, which box do i need to install the surge protector to?

I hate those mini split boards. I get why they are installed like that but at least they could make the wire longer

That’s why I don’t sell those pieces of junk to anyone unless that’s their only choice. There’s a bunch of DI wires out there that will want you to work on them soon, so be prepared. Just say no.

Probably didn't pull a good vacuum,that's could be what's causing the compressor noise,non condensibles. Hard to tell from the short video,but that pvc flue looked suspect as well

This is what you call stuffing 15lbs in a 5lb can. This is poorly engineered for marketing. Make it so the board is a part of the fan motor with a temp sensor to the coil and all you do is provide 240vac on startup. Nice vid on explaining.

That happens a lot man. Over the years I’ve had lots of people complain or want money off. Once they see your willing to continue to come out and handle their “problems” they give up. They’re just looking for money off or the in-laws or wife’s brother comes to visit and they say oh I would never get that I would get this. It’s amazing how much run around I’ll get. Handle everything then a year later they call you back for more work or give you a referral and they’re very happy. Think people just try to get some money off or have a little buyers remorse, they get over it and life’s back to normal

Back in 2008ish this same exact scenario happened with my parts. They ordered a York, but got a luxaire. My parents did not care, as long as it cooled and heated the house. They were made by the same company. People are dumb. That same hvac unit is going strong. Except it had to get serviced 2 years ago. A weedwacker hit the line set, and that had to be replaced

The breaker half-tripped, or only one leg flipped? I take it the linkage between the breakers is sloppy, or do you encounter this sometime even on good breakers? I suspect the compressor has been on its way out for some time, considering that an aftermarket hard start had been installed and the breaker is oversized.

Why is the roof looking wet under the condenser? Oil, water, etc?

Could you please post both part numbers? A 3 ton unit on a 20 A circuit is pretty amazing. As far as the American Standard thing, this should blow over. The new company is METUS (Mitsubishi Electric Trane United States) obviously Trane is where the American Standard comes in. It’s clearly a Mitsubishi unit.

I'd ditch the board and motor if out of warranty and go with a psc and a capacitor. Depending if it's communicating if it is id replace the control board at the furnace with a non communicating board.

The way those two cages are bent in, I would guess someone stepped on them, maybe some parkour practitioner who got on the roof. We have a-holes running through peoples backyards where I live, most back yards have 5' to 6' stacked 4" cinderblock walls, that have very little structural integrity, so occasionally blocks get knocked off. They like running across sheds too, which ends up in a lot of dents and ruptures. Edit: just finished the video, looks like the first unit to the right also has an indentation.

Looked on the google. They sell new fan blade grills. Around $150. Perhaps they are so rusted that they are weaker now. Sit on the new one and I bet it is stronger🥸

Good for collars not so much for take-offs with the oval hole.

Likely the guy who put in that newer unit did sit on it etc. However, I think it's unfair to accuse someone of that with no proof and tell the customer to go after him IMHO.
