    I give my husband ( ESRD) a protein drink to drink. He doesn't drink it everyday but about 3 small cartons a week.It is made from pea protein.Is this ok?

    Is this video relevant for ckd stage 2?

    • @PlantBasedKidneyHealth
      @PlantBasedKidneyHealth  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Definitely. With stage 2, protein needs are not as low as stage 3-5. However it is still recommended to avoid excessive protein intake with stage 1-2 (especially if protein is spilling in the urine). Excessive protein intake for CKD is greater than 1.2 grams protein per kilogram body weight.

    What are some examples of whey and soy proteines?

    • @PlantBasedKidneyHealth
      @PlantBasedKidneyHealth  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      whey protein is typically found in powder/supplement form. You can get concentrated soy protein isolate as a protein powder, or soy protein would be consumed in whole foods as soybeans, edamame, tempeh, tofu, and soymilk.

    I’m interested in going WFPB diet, but I have lupus nephritis which is currently waging a war with my kidneys (>6500 protein/creatinine) biopsy is in 10 days. I discovered 14 years ago that gluten and all grains, nightshades, beans (legumes) throw me into flares. Do you think I could meet my protein requirements on plant based diet, if so what are some substitutions I could eat… I’m at a loss.

      It is definitely still possible, and there are different types of plant based diets. Any plant predominant diet that reduces ultra processed food is going to be helpful. We have a video on lupus nephritis and a couple on proteinuria that you can check out. But would also highly recommend working 1:1 with a renal dietitian since your situation is very complex. Here is a link for help finding a renal dietitian to work with! plantbasedkidneys.com/resources/#dietitian

      Thank you for responding to my question. I will definitely take your suggestions and check out those videos and consider a renal dietitian. I did sign up for the newsletter. Thanks again.

    I get bad reactions to soy. I either use egg white or plant based ( minus soy) protein for a shake. I add frozen berries to it as well. Antler Farms plant protein and Jay Robb egg white protein.

      Glad you found options that worked better for you since you have reactions to soy! There are definitely a lot of options, and adding berries is always a plus :)

    I was born with 1 Kidney and currently have protein in urine consistently show in my labs, my egfr is around 113, I have switched to a plant based diet and starting to see better results, protein/creatinine ratio is at 192 and dipped from 429. Curious if Creatine Monohydrate for someone like me to take as supplement, for help in building lean muscle mass, is that something I should stay away from?

      If your eGFR is 113, you're fine.

      Check out our episodes on proteinuria! We have a lot of information there. It's important to determine what is causing the protein to leak into the urine, lower inflammation, lower blood pressure, control blood sugar levels, low sodium, lower protein diet (people can still be consuming high protein diet with plant sources depending on what/how much they're eating and what their nutrient needs are).

    What about pea protein?

    • @PlantBasedKidneyHealth
      @PlantBasedKidneyHealth  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      We briefly mention pea protein in the beginning of the episode. Pea protein or hemp protein are both alternative options for plant protein.
