„Impulse” or „beat” sounds rather Cartesian and exterior. I think we should use „attraction” or „gravity force”, because the orchestra is literally sucked into the twisting jet of sound without time = music.
Indeed, at that time German was a quite normal working language in the orchestra; I am sure that there were quite a lot of players who only understood basic German, especially younger players; in the generation that grew up during and just after the German occupation of Denmark during WW2 there was a reluctance to learn the language, even though it was the second foreign langauage taught in schools. Even so, most foreign conductors rehearsed in German at this time. Almost all German conductors rehearse in English here now.
And yes, German is widely understood in Denmark, also today - still taught as the normal second foreign language in School after English. My daughter (13) has had German in school since 5th grade.
Grace, humor, integrity, musicianship of the highest order! SC was one of the great musical artists of all time.
Well said, Ira. A treasure to those with ears to hear.

Interesting that he is speaking to them in German, is it widely understood in Denmark? At least back then?

Thank you. I guess it would be obvious in Denmark's case, since it's such a small country that directly borders Germany.
Un chef qui ne mettait pas vraiment à l'aise ....!
Why is he rehearsing without the score? He has to ask for rehearsal letters from the orchestra. So arrogant...
...debiera tener la partitura a la vista sobre todo en un ensayo
dude stfu hahaha
Well I guess he knows the piece so well he can spare to be reading while he conducts. Letters are a detail, and it has nothing related to arrogance ;)
@@calembourman2295 this guy is a known asshole, dont try to spare him. If you were an orchestra player under him you'd be sorry for your stance.
