After hearing and watching the Danish National performance, this is a weak second, mostly because of the sluggish tempo until the ending section. It just has no life in it. The conductor is a jowl shaker.
Danish versions of this fantastic overture are more brisk and better than this rather anonymous rendering. Unfortunately the good music of the opera ends with the overture sadly to say.
The overture is a sparkling appetizer to the feast that is the opera. Seek it out and hear it all. It defines Denmark and it's happy people!

I disagree totally with you . The entire opera is just plain wonderful .

Way way too slow and lifeless! Watch a Danish orchestra play it, and you'll see how it should be done!
