  • THE ULTIMATE BALL STRIKING DRILL
    If there is one drill I use more than any other, it is this one. The vast majority of golfers struggle to make solid contact - the number 1 fundamental necessary to play the game. Topping, chunking, thinning the ball is a global pandemic affecting almost everyone who plays the game.
    This HIT HARD, STOP QUICK drill is by far the most comprehensive “one-stop shop” for all your ball striking needs.
    It helps to control the low-point (and ensures the low-point is far enough forwards), it helps with making contact in the centre of the club face, as well as teaching you how to move your body correctly - but without too much need to think about it!
    Other benefits include better compression, increased lag and power transfer, radius management, sequencing, shaft lean and the unloading pattern of the arms and wrists! And the best thing is you get all of these extra things for FREE!!!
    The best players in the world use this drill (with good reason), and you should too!

    This is the holy grail of golf drills. As a former PGA member and instructor, Rob is right on point here. This will absolutely make you a better ball striker. I do this every single time I practice and it has made a world of difference for me and the quality of the strike. Thanks so much for posting this Rob, it has definitely made a difference in my golf game.

    This is an amazingly good drill. I had to do this recently after being poisoned by an antibiotic in hospital and it attacked my vestibular system, leaving me with compromised balance. I could only use stack and tilt without any follow through or I’d have fallen over! I couldn’t believe how much better my shots were later when my balance improved somewhat. It was all due to that super shortened stop just after impact. Now I’ll go back to that. Who would have thought it was actually a perfect drill I was doing without realising it.
    Today after giving 100% to S&T I played consistently for the just time in months. I’ve swapped between traditional and S&T but now after watching a lot of Rob’s videos early this morning and over the last month, I’m totally convinced that this is it!! My playing partners couldn’t believe the change. So thanks Rob, you’re a pretty amazing teacher.

    Thanks for this Rob! This drill is a game changer. Hit the ball pure and crisp. Hitting 7 irons with smaller swings longer and better than I was with full swing. The ball striking was awesome- was so happy I had to write and thank you for this!!

    This drill is what got me into stack and tilt. I saw one of your vids and was getting perfect contact using this drill. So then I went ahead and looked into all aspects of stack n tilt.
    It's the easiest method to learn imo. Literally from ball 1 I started getting better contact, more distance, etc. Didn't take months and months of engraining feel. Just weight forward and go.

    This is the best “reset” drill there is. When my swing is off, I go back to this and slowly work up to 1/2 to 3/4 swing. I have now played full rounds using a 3/4 swing and hit more greens! Thanks Rob.

    Rob..I used your great drill yesterday at the range and practiced it mostly with my PW thru 7I......it worked great!!! I hit 99% my shots very solid and almost just as far as normal...and almost no thinning the ball !!! ( which is my usually problem ) ..........I also concentrated on striking the ball with some forward shaft lean at impact and found myself in a much better finishing posture at finish.....thanks again for sharing this excellent video !!!

    Even works with chipping! I found with chipping slow back swing slow down, accelerate through impact and stop as quick as possible.

    Always practice using a tee. Broken tees are perfect just as if you were teeing it up on a par 3. It helps you feel like you don't have to worry about hitting the ground before the ball. Faldo and Nicholas and many other professionals always recommend this! I am a former PGA Professional (retired) and have given thousands of lessons and I can say practicing by teeing the ball up a little has always helped improve ball striking.

    See message from me below. Just back from the range and wow! Where has this drill been for the past 5 years? It works. I started with a pitching wedge then tried a few with driver, then 3 wood off the deck which I could never hit flush and finished with 7 iron. Did I hit them all perfectly? No but when I did everything I was supposed to do, arms straight, weight forward, stop quickly it was amazing. Thank you so much for this, I'm playing in a comp tomorrow and although it's a drill, I'm taking it onto the course, I feel that good about it. Next step is lengthening the swing in stages but I'm not going to rush it, I recently spent £1200 on new irons and was beginning to think I'd wasted my money, now I feel great again!

    I watched the original video on a while ago and this was a great reminder. This should probably be put out once every other month at least. Controlling the length of swing and low point really helps with contact and power. I am thinking of exclusively using this for practice and continuing to abbreviate follow through on course. I love that you give permission to stop following through to a “full” finish.

    10 handicap. 74 years old, 6'5". Tried the drill at the range today. Worked perfect with all clubs. When I started lengthening my swing, however, my miss percentage with irons increased, although I hit quite a few great shots. I'm almost 100% perfect with the driver, actually hitting draws further than with my normal, conventional swing (220 - 230). Question: it seems like this "swing fast stop soon" technique might be a good pre-swing drill on the course? What do you think? I'll keep working on improving my strike percentage, which is my goal.

  • @stevenolmstead
    @stevenolmstead 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great Video! The trend in golf instruction lately seems to be focused on gaining distance by generating more speed in the swing. Besides the benefit of hitting the ball more flush, I have found that by incorporating this stopping motion (what seems to the very opposite to speed) it seems to create more power and therefore much more distance. Would like to hear your thoughts...

  • @CoryProducts
    @CoryProducts 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    This is harder to do than you make it look. I tried this at the driving range and generally had solid contact. Which is an improvement on my usual thin shots.
    I hit quite a few pull shots but managed to get it back on line by keeping the shoulders more vertical through the shot. That seems to make sense after listening again as you emphasised keeping the right shoulder down as per stack and tilt ‘shoulder down’ principle. Make sense?
    Great stuff, Rob. These videos are quality information.

    I absolutely love this drill but let me tell you how I made it improved it (for myself at least)i if you’re not able to hit a ball all the time. Take a toilet paper roll (empty) and put it around the end of the club where it will go up and down the shaft. Set your back swing and the roll goes down and touches your hand. Do this drill and make sure the rolls snap all the way down to the end. Bring the club back up to your backswing and it resets itself. It becomes second nature out on the course because it trains your subconscious.

      @@georgemohr I think you filled in the gap for me. Logically the snap would happen on the downswing.

    The faster you swing it the easier it is to put the breaks on. That’s so important to know

    Great, for me it helps to think as a "en garde" move, kind of "shooting" the club immediately after impact into the ground, while my shoulders hold back (tuck hips move). What do you think?

    I tried a version of this a few years ago where the Pro recommended pulling the club back immediately after impact to really put the brakes on… what a strike… ended up overdoing it and got tendonitis in both elbows 😩.
    Now, on a 3/4 backswing using the stop quickly drill, how much distance do you lose or gain compared to a 3/4 swing with normal follow through… I’m going to guess distance is virtually the same but dispersion is tighter?

    Rob, do you think this drill causes you to push the hips toward the ball in the downswing vs. maintaining your posture?
