The acting in this scene is amazing. The tiny little hint of a smile when she took the bait, the feigned disinterest while she was ranting, the way he casually dropped the cheque on her desk, and the phrasing of "because you *suck* at it" - the whole scene is brilliant.
Actually "It's a complicated issue" is the best part for me ... the way he says it ... purely to escalate the whole thing and make her even more mad. This is hands down the best part of the movie, hilarious and good acting.
she is no beauty and certainly no queen. He nose is so big at the bottom, not the top like true royalty. they superimposed her mouth to look bigger. In real life her mouth is average. And if u get to know her good u notice she has a very slight cross eye problem. She did get some plastic surgery to look like the woman she bullied for many years. She is one of the nastiest bullies in real life and will stoop at nothing to achieve her goals which include possible money laundering. That check was not really hers but someone she knew very well who was being tortured and abused by her father she was also freezing and starving.

This scene speaks volumes to "human conditioning". People who have always been screwed over cannot see the world any other way. It never crossed her mind that the amount could be more, because she's always gotten less in life.

@@sparky4878 it's really rare, but it happens. Has to be a particularly great scene though. One example that comes to mind is near the end of Avengers End Game, when Captain America picks up a certain item to attack Thanos. The whole theater was cheering for that one.

If anyone really REALLY wants to experience that... go to the opening weekend of a “fandom” (like MCU) or underdog movie (like this one). You’ll be watching the movie in a room filled with excited fans who will cheer at the exciting bits, then get quiet really fast so that you don’t miss anything. It’s my favorite way to watch movies! (And one of the things I miss bc, right now, all theaters are closed near me. 😷😷)

This has always been my favorite scene in the movie. Not that it's necessarily a great scene, I mean it's excellent, but that it's the perfect punchline to the whole movie.
Great movie & what Erin did for the families is truly amazing! If not for her those famlies would have ZERO! I read the comments seems like some complained about Erin getting 2M for the record she earned all of it. The lawyers had they not won would've been bankrupt & so yes they deserved a fee to cover all expenses & their salaries as well.. Again if not for them & Erin the families would not have anything at all! Julia Roberts has always been a favorite of mine & as always she kicked butt in this movie! Bravo!!

Sometimes the energy between actors is worth more than their individual talents. This duo is a perfect example of that. Roberts owes a lot to Finney for her oscar IMO.

Did you know he was in the "Annie" movie, back in 1982? I recognized him myself, but couldn't remember. Then I looked him up. Low and behold, it was that movie.
Man I bet he loved cranking her up and she chomps on the bait so easily. He probably couldn't get to sleep that night because he could not stop grinning and snickering at what he did to her.
Easily one of the best movies ever made, Roberts and Finney were great as a team in this movie, Finney's expressions in some parts were just hilarious and priceless.
