    you did it wrong. the fsm says takethe subframe mount off right there on the drivers side and rotate the assembly 45* degrees and then slid it out the driver side.

    • @ChristianLikesFootball

      So by lowering the subframe, you can slide the whole thing out without taking off the pinion unit (the unit with the two 12mm bolts fasterners)?

    my center guide cracked, according to the service manual ; Remove the center guide (A) (if equipped) from thetop of the pinion shaft (B), and discard it. The centerguide is for factory assembly use only. So does that mean i dont need that center guide again ?

    On my 2007 tsx with 100k miles, steering is starting to become really stiff to turn, can barely force it to turn with one finger. I think the rack and pinion is on the way out. Thanks for the step by step DIY, will tackle it when the boots start to leak fluid out.

    • @mannysolution
      @mannysolution  5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Wei Mah glad you like the video. In some cases it’s not the whole rack and pinion that has the problem it might just be the seals on pump or a bad power steering hose. In my case I knew the power steering rack was bad because it was leaking from the boot, the boot it’s just there to protect the rack from dirt and other contaminants. Check all your power steering lines and make sure it’s not leaking from the boot,. If it is ,then you know the problem is on the rack itself.

    • @ChavezDIY
      @ChavezDIY 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You should try putting Sea Foam Trans Tune in your power steering reservoir and lift the car on jack stands and turn steering wheel lock to lock over 20x to push the fluid through the system. Sometimes that helps. Scotty Kilmer has a video on it. They sell it at Walmart.

    Is this a common problem with a tsx. Besides noticing the leaks what are the symptoms while driving?

    • @mannysolution
      @mannysolution  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Don’t know if this is a common problem on these cars but the have a recall on the power steering hose. Mine was replaced by the dealer free of charge but a few months after my rack and pinion started leaking. I had no symptoms other than the leak on my car. When I took it apart the seals inside the rack and pinion were worn out.

    • @jasonvasquez1445
      @jasonvasquez1445 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mannysolution I wonder if the power steering fluid is eating away the rubber ..well to be honest I'm not even sure if my car went back for a recall I'm the second owner and the first owner never mention anything about going to get anything replaced.. Would my car still have a recall even after so long?

    • @mannysolution
      @mannysolution  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Jason Vasquez you can find out if your car is under any recall by searching Acura TSX recalls and your vin number. When you do that it would tell you if your car needs something replaced by dealer or if the recall was performed already. And about the power steering fluid eating away at the seals, I think it’s due to contamination of the fluid maybe from being too old or simply dirt getting into the system when filling it up.

    what are some of the symptoms of a bad steering rack? My rack is really stiff and notchy , doesn't turn back to the center position when you turn it right ..
    the wheel just " sticks " in the position you leave it.
    thanks

    • @mannysolution
      @mannysolution  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I would start by checking if you see any leaks on the floor or around where your car was parked. There’s usually power steering fluid on the floor ,close the rack when bad. Check for broken rack and pinion boots, that’s where it usually leaks. If the boots are full of power steering fluid, most likely your rack is bad. The power steering system is supposed to be dry on the outside, the boots are only there to protect the rack from dirt. Another problem is air on the system but that comes from the power steering pump and power steering hoses itself, make sure the power steering fluid tank is full and no hoses are leaking.

      I’ll give that a check today.
      The lower front ball joints are also bad , when I first got the car it was really tight until I injected some grease into the boot. Maybe that’s the issue.

      Yes I removed the top part of the rack and pinion in order to slide it out of the driver side of the car. You can also get an inch or 2 if you loosen the subframe a little bit but not remove the subframe bolts completely, just enough to get more wiggle room.

    Maybe it was me but taking off the pressure lines while the rack is in the car was time consuming. Then trying to connect them back while you put the rack back in the car was impossible for me to do. I saw another video where removing a few bolts to drop the frame was way easier. I was able to remove the whole steering rack assembly together that way. Even having the rack outside connecting those pressure lines was still difficult. I think I might have cross treated one.
