Fun fact about Bobby Hatfield, he was a sports hero in school, and in college he was being scouted to play pro baseball, but Bobby chose his music. And I notice that people are quick to point out the fact that he did cocaine, but don't add that Bobby had sever heart problems and was in a lot of pain. Bobby was a beautiful man with a beautiful soul and the best singing voice I have ever heard. He started a yearly golf tournment and the proceeds went to research for Lupus, which his wife had. I don' t know if his children has carried on with it since their mother has passed away as well. Bobbys music was magic, mesmerizing, addictive and he will never be forgotten!
bobby is a counter-tenor, his high notes are natural and his actual voice not a falsetto where the high notes are forced. thats why it looks so effortless for bobby
I was fortunate. This was the music I listened to as a teenager. RIP Bobby. The Righteous Brothers were known as "Blue-eyed Soul". Live performance. No auto tunes.
Awww, the late Bobby Hatfield. I was 15 yrs old when I heard him sing this beautiful song on the Andy Williams show in 1965. His voice was awesome, and there were no auto tunes. Just pure raw talent. He owns this song. RIP Bobby! We miss your beautiful voice! 💖 💖💖
His beautiful sound was known in the 60's as "blue-eyed soul". His voice draws out emotions now, almost 60 years later, as much as it did then. Your reaction is priceless!!!
He wasn’t the original singer but he was the best. This song was written in 1955 for a movie and had been covered, and been a hit for several other singers. Bobby made some changes to the original melody (the octave jump ‘I NEED your love’ at the end was one,) and the final crescendo in this version was not in his original studio version. Although that was G#5, it was no strain for him as his range was B2 to Eb6. Three and a half octaves on his recored work, although Bill commented they never really found out how high he could reach.😊
The lyrics mean even more when you realize it was 1965 and the Vietnam War was in full swing. He is singing like a soldier in a fox hole with the horror of war all around and all he wants to know is if she still loves him. "I'll be coming home, wait for me."
Jasmine , thank you so much for bringing our old music back to us, Love the soul , back then songs meant something very Beautiful , we sang Romantic Love songs to our girls , and our girls to us , so good and real and clean . Thank you so happy you enjoy it also . 👍❤️
Any time Bobby sings is a treat but when he sings solo he knocks it outta the park. This clip is better than the studio recording which charted twice. Check out this heart throb singing My Prayer or even Summertime to name a few. Some of the Righteous Bother hits were You'll never walk alone, Rock and Roll Heaven, Soul and Inspiration and You've lost that Loving Feeling. Your reaction nailed it as they were dubbed 'blue eyed soul'. RIP Bobby Hatfield you are truly missed.
The best performance ever of this song. Back in the day we called this a panty dropper. Didn't matter if the girl you asked to dance with when this song came on was your girl. Bobby's voice made all the ladies melt.
First one here!!! 😁 Love this performance! No one sang this song like Bobby Hatfield! Bill Medley is the other Righteous Brother! No one could sing this live like Bobby! No auto tune....its live...& he killed it!!! He makes it look so easy! I know right! lol. I almost forgot...Bobby had a cold when he sang this! They weren't real brothers...they just went by that name. They talk about it in the beginning how they got their name Righteous Brothers.
Hi Jasmine, You know I'm here rockin' with you especially since you're rockin' with The Righteous Brothers!!! Absolutely NO AUTO-TUNE, this was a FLAWLESSLY performed LIVE before a TV show audience with a LIVE Orchestra all in ONE TAKE!!! Who does that today??? R.I.P. Bobby Hatfield this was a performance for "THE AGES!!!"
You get it...The Righteous Brothers are pure soulful talent & luckily there's so many of their songs to hear. I had no idea when I first heard them that they were from Orange County CA..only thought that was Beach Boys type of music country. You'll really enjoy listening & reacting to the songs the commentators here suggested. Also Bill Medley (dark haired baritone) sings lead on a blues song (no video) called "I Wanna Make Love To You" that's hot. Together they sing "You'll never Walk Alone" taped from the Ed Sullivan Variety TV show. They did solos on each album too. Your reaction was heart felt and glad I subscribed.
Bobby Hatfield (RIP) & Bill Medley were the s$%t back in the 60's they stood right there with some of the motown giants. It was a great time to be alive!
This song was a panty-dropper. Someone once quipped that Bobby was the father of 10 percent of the word's population. He was sick and feverish that night and was nervous because his mom had never heard him sing live, and she was in the front row.
I like the way you use your reaction screen as the insert. Gives the larger view to the artists you are reacting to. It's only right to give them their due. Nice.
HE has such a strong command of his voice,he's almost making love to the mike,he knows how to use his voice and reaching those high notes makes him a counter tenor great video/song/and singer, kudos to you.
Glad you enjoyed this so much, you have great musical taste. Bobby Hatfield was one of the greatest singers ever. When he teams up with Bill Medley they belt out great songs such as You lost that Loving Feeling, Ebb Tide, For once in my Life. They were on 🔥🔥🔥 FIRE doing Little Latin Lupe Lu and The Night Time is the Right Time. Best success on yr channel.
Somewhere, Crying in the chaple, my prayer - the list is Ling, but if you haven't heard Bill introduce Bobby for "Summertime", you haven't heard Bobby's one of a kind proof. Phenomenal.
They said when Bobby Hatfield sang this song in this performance he had a terrible cold. If you look real close his top lip looks damp, and he's licking his lips a lot. But he still sounds fabulous.
THE MOST RADIO REQUESTED SONG. GUYS GOING TO THE VIETNAM WAR WOULD REQUEST THIS SONG FOR THEIR GIRLFRIENDS HOPING TO STILL HAVE THEM WHEN THEY RETURNED !!!
The original was from a film in prison in 1954. Bobby’s cover is up to now the best and considered standard and received a Grammy Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal in 1991 after he rerecorded 20 years later for the film Ghost
When The Righteous Brothers went into the recording studio to record an album, each of them (Bobby Hatfield and Bill Medley) would record one song sung solo. Both of them wanted to record “Unchained Melody”. They resolved the issue by a coin flip. Hatfield won the coin toss.
I can't imagine a "better" performance than the one in this video. Still, I would love to have heard Bill perform it, also. I mean, solo, not duet, although that would have been amazing, too.
The song was done at least once before The Righteous Brothers did it. This is a LIVE performance. Look at the year-1965, No auto-tune, computer assisted tone quality enhancements. just talent. Elvis did this live in 1977. This man, Bobby Hatfield, has a full 3-octave tenor range, reaching highest soprano range, effortlessly. Bobby owns this song. They, the duo, were also referred to frequently as "blue-eyed soul". And, they are not brothers - Bobby Hatfield (RIP) and Bill Medley. You want to hear Bill Medley - listen to "You've lost that loving feeling". Then listen to "Soul and Inspiration" when they share the song. But the harmony of Bill's baritone and Bobby's tenor are supreme.
You are so correct young lady. They just don't make this kind of music any more and it is so sad. No auto tune, not synthesizers , no gadgetry, just sheer raw talent.
I thought you were going to let us down as it started off slow but you stepped it up quickly...And your commentary was spot on . This was my generation and you don't get any finer than the RB's... Thank you.
Bobby Hatfield was 25 years old on this recording. He was also a counter tenor so he could really hit those high notes that most guys can't. The other Righteous Brother , Bill Medley, sang a duet with Jennifer Warnes on the movie "Dirty Dancing". The song was ... I've Had The Time Of My Life". Thanks!
I wonder what the royalties were for Music Composer Alex North and Lyricist Hy Zaret who wrote the song back in 1955 for the prison movie "Unchained." Especially after "Bobby Hatfield's" Epic live performance on the Andy Williams Show (1965).
The Righteous Brother each had some songs they sang solo but most of their songs were duets. They were very popular when I was in college . Unfortunately Bobby Hatfield had a problem and died early from cocaine poisoning .
They were not the first ones to sing this song, neither was Elvis. The song was written in 1955 for a movie called “Unchained”. It was about a man in prison, thinking about trying to escape early so he could get home to his wife. The movie was a flop, but the song has been recorded by many, many different artists. Bobby is the best! This live version is even better than the studio version. Bobby does this solo because they had decided to do one solo on each album and flipped a coin to see who would sing it. Thank God that Bobby won!
Interesting bit of trivia. Andy Williams is the host talking to them at the beginning, and he talks about Tony Bennett singing San Francisco. That was 1965. Today, in 2023, Tony Bennett is still alive and still singing San Francisco.
The orchestration was done by the greatest session group ever, The Wrecking Crew. They did the instrumentation for hundreds of hits from the late 50's up to the early 80's.
If you were on the dance floor and this song came on, you girl friend, wife would totally melt in your arms and you would fall in love at that moment again and again.... perfect late night dance song.... And don't forget New Years Eve Night for sure.
I would love to see your reaction to the "Brothers" doing "What'd I Say" with Andy Williams. It's the next bit on the show immediately following Bobby's "Unchained Melody". It's fun to watch because they (all three of them) seem to be having so much fun. I think you would get a kick out of it.
The song "Unchained Melody" was written in 1955 by a white man, Alex North for a prison movie, "Unchained" and was sung by a black man, Mr. Todd Duncan who was the first original singer. As time went on the song was sung by six hundred and something singers in different languages and was the most popular song played in the US, Canada and throughout the UK. On July 13,1990 they came out with a movie called "Ghost" with Patrick Swayze, Demi Moore and Whoopi Goldberg and the song which was played was "Unchained Melody" that was sung by Mr. Bobby Hatfield of the Righteous Brothers cause he was the best singer that has ever sang it and that includes Elvis Presley. If you get the chance watch the movie too. I promise you that you will not be disappointed. And oh yeah, if you get the chance could you please play, "Too Much Heaven" by the Bee Gees? Their singing voices were excellent and the words of this beautiful romantic love song was too. Goodnight Darling. Thank you and God bless you. Adios.
Watching the beginning you could see how nervous Bobby was talking on camera sweating and almost out of breath, he was seriously camera shy and hated public speaking, but he was able to control it much better when he sang.
Story has it this song was written by a prisoner in a correctional facility for his girlfriend back in the 50's. However, Bobby Hatfield owned this song and nobody ever sang it better.
CAN YOU BELIEVE A PERFORMANCE LIKE THIS FROM BOBBY HATFIELD BACK IN 1965 BY THE WAY, BOBBY HATFIELDS STUDIO VERSION WAS IN THAT FAMOUS FILM "GHOST" STARRING PATRICK SWAYZE AND DEMI MOORE AND WHOOPIE GOLDBERG.
Blue eyed soul at its best… and you did a great reaction. Try Jackie Wilson singing “Lonely Teardrops “ or… Nancy Wilson sing “Girl it’s over” as she tells her best friend that the relationship she’s in is over… two unrelated black singers from the 60’s
Too late to hide. I heard you singing when this performance started. You sounded really good. I'm subscribing and hoping you will sing some more. This was a fun reaction. Thanks.
Finally! Someone who feels like I do. I just wish for one superpower. To sing this song like Bobby Hatfield. Not sing like him. Just be able to sing this one song. Is that too much to ask?! Dude can sing the panties off any woman.
Tom Jones is another great vovalist, and Shirley Bassey is a straight up diva. The are both from Wales and only about four or five years different in age. They both sang James Bond themes, Tom did one, and Shirley did three. The small age difference seems like nothing nowadays, but it is a big for young people. As such, Shirley Bassey and Tom Jones we not contemporaries.
I have two reaction videos to suggest to you : U2 and Bono "I still haven't found what I'm Looking For" music Video shot in 1980s old Vegas, and "Kentucky Rain" Elvis one his best songs but rarely played.
This was live TV. No second takes. No auto-tune. Effortless, angelic voice. Most amazing live vocal performance in history.
Bobby Hatfield: a voice from heaven, sent to all of us to hear.
That smile at the end is the smile of a man who knows he just killed it
That might also be that Bobby KNOWS that he gave that song Eternal Life !!
Heaven sent. His voice is a true gift from God. And we lost him to early rest in peace Bobby.
Unchained Melody was written in 1955 and has been sung by many artists but no one could sing it like Bobby Hatfield. His voice is heavenly

They had us mesmerized and in love!
I'm an 80 year old white man and Bobby and Bill are the ones that hooked me on SOUL music. Awesome!!
bobby is a counter-tenor, his high notes are natural and his actual voice not a falsetto where the high notes are forced. thats why it looks so effortless for bobby
He actually only falsettos on the lower notes. It's just amazing.
I was fortunate. This was the music I listened to as a teenager. RIP Bobby. The Righteous Brothers were known as "Blue-eyed Soul". Live performance. No auto tunes.
Nobody can sing better than Bobby. He was a once in a lifetime phenom. He left us way too soon. We are blessed to have the recordings he made.
I grew up as a teen listening to the Righteous Brothers! Absolutely two of my favorite performers from that era!
His beautiful sound was known in the 60's as "blue-eyed soul". His voice draws out emotions now, almost 60 years later, as much as it did then. Your reaction is priceless!!!
I am so happy that people are requesting The Righteous Brothers. They came out big when I was 13, and I loved that sound.
Bobby had a head cold when he sang this song live and he was perfection .Wow!!!.
He wasn’t the original singer but he was the best. This song was written in 1955 for a movie and had been covered, and been a hit for several other singers. IF THAT SONG DOESN`T BRING THE TEARS OUT OF YOU THEN YOU HAVEN`T REALLY EXPERIENCE LIFE YET. BEAUTIFUL IS THIS SONG AND HIS VOICE
The lyrics mean even more when you realize it was 1965 and the Vietnam War was in full swing. He is singing like a soldier in a fox hole with the horror of war all around and all he wants to know is if she still loves him. "I'll be coming home, wait for me."

Best singer ever
The best performance ever of this song. Back in the day we called this a panty dropper. Didn't matter if the girl you asked to dance with when this song came on was your girl. Bobby's voice made all the ladies melt.
😂😂 I love it!!
Nine months later there were also mini population increases.
Still does

Glad to see you react to the full version with the interview that explains the name and why it’s a solo.
I've heard great covers of this song but the original will always be the best ❤️
I think this version is the best.

This song is their song. Over 600 times it has been covered by other singers. Bobby does this one alone. 1965. Pure voice no gimmicks. Pure!

Just a beautiful song, these guys can wail omg!! Great review, I love that you enjoyed it my darling!!
Thank you so much!!
I thought you were going to let us down as it started off slow but you stepped it up quickly...And your commentary was spot on .
This was my generation and you don't get any finer than the RB's... Thank you.
I never get tired of hearing this
A classic, people will still enjoy this 500 years from now. Note, no overpowering heavy drum beat so common in our modern era.
Thanks!
Listenobjekt their song, Soul and Inspiration.
Jasmine, you must hear the Righteous Brothers sing "I just wanna make love to you" and "Summertime."
When you are this good, you can just play with the words.
Love this song!
Watch the movie ghost with Patrick Swayze and demi Moore because this song is played in that movie
Yes, thank you.

This song at the dances, girls would hold you so tight you'd think they were havin' the choke hold on us. They loved this song.
They were not the first ones to sing this song, neither was Elvis. The song was written in 1955 for a movie called “Unchained”.

Good music is just that. Good music!! So happy that you enjoyed music from my era. 😊
Bill Medley the other singer in the group, also did "I've had the time of my life" for Dirty Dancing
Interesting bit of trivia. Andy Williams is the host talking to them at the beginning, and he talks about Tony Bennett singing San Francisco. That was 1965. Today, in 2023, Tony Bennett is still alive and still singing San Francisco.
This was live, and if you see him bit his lip at the end it was because his mother was in the audience.
Excellent reaction young lady!! New subscription
During the war this was a gigantic hit !
gotta do "summertime" by bobby hatfield of the righteous brothers
BOBY HATFIELD SANG THIS SONG AND UNFORTUNATELY HE died AND it's A GREAT ONE REST in PEACE YOU WERE A GREAT singer 😔
Sometimes overlooked is the orchestra. They nailed it as well. The conductor should also be congratulated for keep the pace throughout.
I’ve been listening to the support of the orchestra accompaniment and it really supports the song for a dramatic effect!
You're fire, they're fire
I would love to see your reaction to the "Brothers" doing "What'd I Say" with Andy Williams. It's the next bit on the show immediately following Bobby's "Unchained Melody". It's fun to watch because they (all three of them) seem to be having so much fun. I think you would get a kick out of it.
Bobby was one of the finest voices of the 20th century. With Elvis and Freddie Mercury he was the third in the trilogy of ballad talent.
I enjoyed your reactions
Beautiful Reaction!
Jasmine I pictured you and Bobby dancing so slow to this song.
Back in the day these songs were referred to as "Blue Eyed Soul"
The song is from a 1955 movie called "Unchained".
Beautiful reaction. Why doesnt Rolling Stones Magazine recognize Bobbys talents
Their list is more notable for who's not on it
Honey you hit the nail on the head. They just don't make music like this anymore and it is so sad.
Like ur style. Subbing...
Watching the beginning you could see how nervous Bobby was talking on camera sweating and almost out of breath, he was seriously camera shy and hated public speaking, but he was able to control it much better when he sang.
Righteous....brother
Watch his smirk he knows he got them
The Righteous Brothers were not the first to sing Unchained Melody, it was first recorded in 1955.
Story has it this song was written by a prisoner in a correctional facility for his girlfriend back in the 50's. However, Bobby Hatfield owned this song and nobody ever sang it better.
CAN YOU BELIEVE A PERFORMANCE LIKE THIS FROM BOBBY HATFIELD BACK IN 1965
BY THE WAY, BOBBY HATFIELDS STUDIO VERSION WAS IN THAT FAMOUS FILM "GHOST" STARRING PATRICK SWAYZE AND DEMI MOORE AND WHOOPIE GOLDBERG.
This song was in a movie and is about a man in prison asking his girl to wait.
Those voice lessons sure paid off.
He didn't have voice lessons...
They were also known as Blue Eyed Soul
Beautiful reaction
Thank you 😊
Hang on, Babe. It's gonna be a bumpy ride! 😎
Too late to hide. I heard you singing when this performance started. You sounded really good. I'm subscribing and hoping you will sing some more. This was a fun reaction. Thanks.
Haha I appreciate you ❤️
Live performances are 100% better than studio versions. By the time you get to live there are no more bugs.
Finally! Someone who feels like I do. I just wish for one superpower. To sing this song like Bobby Hatfield. Not sing like him. Just be able to sing this one song. Is that too much to ask?! Dude can sing the panties off any woman.
They have a wing in the Smithsonian for their pantie collection!!!
Live, no auto tune or gimmicks 1965
They sang some songs slone too
Check out the Rubbettes singing "SUGAR BABY LOVE".
sometimes they sing together, depends on the song, alot of groups just sang in those days, like the drifters, or supremes, shangrilas, etc...
If Bobby was Dracula singing that to me I be like take me NOW!
