This was awesome, the three of them performing together was perfect. I cannot help loving Bobby though, he’s a delight to watch, just so charismatic and such a beautiful voice. That’s not saying that Peggy Lee & Bill Medley don’t deserve great praise, they are both wonderful artists. I wish that we had such talent today.
Bobby hatfield was so beautiful. I could listen to his beautiful voice all day. Theres something about the tone of his voice that I love. No one as beautiful as him, and no one can sing like him. His voice alone is enough to make you fall in love with him. Just beautiful.
This video only adds to all the reasons to fall in love with him. So cute that he shakes hands with the little blond boy in the front row (kid's reaction -- "Wow, Dad! Did you see?" is also adorable).
I know a lot of people complain about the singers who are popular TODAY, but let’s get serious, folks. Not a one, NOT ONE, can hold a candle next to the swinging trio of Peggy, Bill & Bobby!
@@dawnaberry8452 I fell just as hard as you in 65 and I’m still in the same place. I think I was 18 but it didn’t matter, my heart just kept going all these years waiting for him.
What a thrill for two young men in early stage of their careers to sing with such a legend. Love the fun and spontaneity of live TV. Looks like Peggy was having a great time too. ❤
The fun thing about Ed Sullivan I noticed is that sometimes you saw spontaneous performances that blew the audience away. Another example was Sammy Davis Jr., & Ella Fitzgerald (RIP) where they sang 'S Wonderful. Peggy Lee & The Righteous Brothers also are linked in their very own way. Bobby Hatfield & Bill Medley worked with Phil Spector on "You've Lost That Loving Feeling" which is next to "Stairway To Heaven" the most frequently played song in terms of The Radio. It was written by Barry Mann & Cynthia Weil and Phil Spector Produced it. Phil was The Protege of The Late Jerry Lieber (Words) and Mike Stoller (Music), who were the first successful Songwriting Team in Music. They of course Wrote I'm A Woman for Peggy Lee which is a classic.
Actually Peggy "Covered" I'm A Woman. The Original was done by Christine Kittrell in 1962 but due to circumstances and politics Peggy's Version got more airplay.
@@recordguy4321 per Wikipedia: "One of her [Christine Kittrell's] recordings for Vee-Jay was the original version of the Leiber and Stoller song "I'm a Woman" in 1962, which was later recorded by Peggy Lee [1963]." Christine Kitrell was a soul gospel artist. As to @laminage's mention of politics, remember that there was a de facto segregation in the music industry.
Great to see two of my favorites Bill and Bobby sing with Peggy Lee. Gee imagine that. Three normal looking, sharp dressed, and talented people and compare this to the absolute trash we have nowdays
I find it charming this question in the eyes of Bobby and Bill : « Oops, do we have to sing ? » And finally , they catch up laughing . It’s so cute ! Then , in the second part , we clearly see Bobby putting his hand behind Bill’s back to let him know it’s his turn to sing. I love it!💙😍😂🥰
High quality singers here. Peggy Lee's timing & sex appeal is contagious. The young Righteous Brothers adding their spice was fun to watch. Who could resist smiling during this.
The three performances by the Righteous Brothers on this 1965 episode of The Ed Sullivan Show are of my very favorites: this one, "You'll Never Walk Alone", and "Turn On Your Lovelight" (not the brief segment but the whole song on "Bumpin The Oldies"). They did this last song also on Shindig and on The Bob Hope Show (not the short clip but the longer video with "Soul and Inspiration" which is a little clearer). Their performances of this number are rockin', rollin', sexy, and hot 🔥!
love this - love her. one of the most exceptional unique singers/performers of all time. I put Judy Garland 1 (no one like her) but Peggy Lee is about equal on stage to me / totally different styles but had the perfect craft of storytelling through song, like Garland.
Every time i watch this, it's thru tears😢. So much talent on one stage and such a lovely era of time gone forever. The boys look afraid to get close to the mic, such a sign of respect for the great Ms. Lee. Watch how the gentleman on the right prompts the gentleman in the center by gently tapping him on the back so he doesn't miss his cue the 2nd time @2:57. He had initially missed his cue @1:43. Ah, live TV.
Thank you for making these points. Bobby Hatfield showed his leading with harmony and love, though they all did, to professionally come together and turn that mistake into another charming moment in the wonderful performance.
If you notice the shot of the audience in this clip. This is not CBS Studio 50 in New York from where the show normally was broadcast from. This is from CBS Television City in LA. For a few weeks in 1965 the show was moved to the West Coast while CBS Studio 50 in New York was being equipped with new equipment for color broadcasting.
Yes, Ed Sullivan was a bit before my time. I was born in 1966 but I bought some Videos from back in the day. I had no idea what a TV Legacy he had. This was probably next to Sammy Davis Jr., and Ella Fitzgerald singing "'S Wonderful". Another great performance that they did, was on Shindig with Ray Charles (who had a major influence on Bill Medley, Billy Joel, Olivia Newton-John & Terry Kath 1943-1976) of Chicago) where The Blossoms The Backing Group sang with him. As good as they were they knew sometimes you had to step back and watch how it's "really" done. Night Time Is The Right Time was also the "Audition" Song that The Supremes sang when they were still known as The Primettes in 1960 when they auditioned for Motown.
And they all performed together so well -- musically, professionally, and personably. And Bobby Hatfield shaking hands with the little boy made it multi-generational. Everyone was smiling as happily as they could, and I was too. 🥰
fun clip.. and such a sweet little tune. only Bobby points out he did not go around both girls..just the one with the glasses. something about his true outlook on personality..Despite his 'skindeep marriage' at the time. Which he himself refers to as 'fail'. Whenever unintentionally mentioned it rubs him the wrong way. Since his short but blunt answer to it i pay no attention to it anymore, lol. there are more children then usuallly mentioned. At least 5. When i asked him why he wanted me to know, the answer was just 'honesty'. Certainly i have no need to read into elses memoirs. Golden Boy's memoirs (if he feels to it) do just fine.
What are you getting at? Are you being critical? You know, we all have youthful mistakes. But my point is that Bobby out grew his. Doesn't mean that he reached perfection. But when he met and married Linda, it was the best thing he ever did. He became a great father and a wonderful husband, taking great care of Linda, who suffered from Lupus, organizing golf tournaments to raise money to research the disease. And raising 4 great kids. Their music will be played for another century or longer. And there was never a greater talent than Bobby, never will be.
Everyone sounds and looks so good, but Bobby just blows me away!
Cool doesn't begin to describe this clip. Peggy Lee was gorgeous.

Her pitch and charisma. Peggy lee is my favorite always.

Seeing him on the Andy Williams Show in 1965 was too much for a 22-year-old girl. She fell in love and never stopped.
