"College Football is not like March Madness..." 0-6 Kennesaw State proceeds to beat an undefeated Liberty team, Vandy proceeds to beat an Alabama team that just came off a win against Georgia and takes Texas to the wire while having a loss to Georgia State, Arkansas proceeds to beat Tennessee and then proceeds to get blown out by LSU and Ole Miss, South Carolina proceeds to take LSU and Alabama down to the wire, gets blown out by Ole Miss, then follows up with a blowout win over A&M. Yes vice versa is also true with Liberty getting blown out by Oregon in the Fiesta Bowl. The FSU example isn't the best because of the Jordan Travis injury that resulted in over half of the team opting out of the game against Georgia and yes chances are Georgia probably would've still won if Travis wasn't hurt but it wouldn't have been by 60 points (probably by around 14-20 if i had to guess). The point being is that due to unpredictability anything can happen and both possibilities must be acknowledged that they can happen. It's not black and white just like a lot of things aren't in life. With that being said, if Army goes unbeaten and Boise State goes 12-1 it would be in the best interest of the Committee and College Football fans to have both of those teams in the playoffs as opposed to a 3 loss A&M team, 2 loss Notre Dame team who would have losses to NIU and Army, a 3 loss Alabama team, and 2 loss Texas team that narrowly beat Vandy but wouldn't have any other wins (assuming they lose to A&M on the road and then A&M losses to whoever they play in the SEC Championship game). Brand bias will ruin the sport by making it boring af if we do not give teams a chance to make the playoffs if those teams have at least one or two wins against quality opponents, even if they aren't a P4 team. If Army shows up and plays Notre Dame just like Navy does then what I said can be entirely ignored. This statement is obviously centered around Army going undefeated, if they don't then it doesn't matter. I recall when Boise State beat Oklahoma in the 2007 Fiesta Bowl and I still think that game set the precedence for expanding to a 12 team playoffs. Yes 4 was interesting for the time we had and yes TCU got rocked by Georgia but do we really think that'll happen every time? No but most times it probably will but even so we all love a good upset every once in a while and even if there's a slim chance of it happening we should all be for getting undefeated or 1 loss G5 teams a chance (obviously the loss would depend on who they lost to and by how much).
Well Done. I would love to see an “outsider” in the college football hierarchy come in and absolutely throw a wrench into the playoffs. That’s the fun of March Madness, when a Cinderella upsets the powerhouse. The drama in college football has been ratcheted up and it will only get better…
The first few years we will probably see exactly this play out. It's not about parity now, it's about making the goal for a national championship more accessible, as teams get more and more experience playing top opponents you'll get more competitive games. this happens in soccer all the time, the bar for tournament entrance gets lower so more teams are include and over time those mid level teams become tougher.
As group of 5 fan and a Boise fan actually having a chance to make the playoffs just makes a rewarding season even more rewarding instead of peaking at a conference championship and for one g5 team a new years bowl
Nah, upsets happen too often in college football for it to just end up being the top four teams every year, not to mention the top four seeds are usually not going to be the four best teams.
Too many examples prove that in many years, the 5 to 12th ranked teams could have competed on equal terms with the 1-4 ranked teams. The one that sticks in my mind is the Sugar Bowl in 1986. The 2nd ranked Miami team met the 8th ranked Tennessee team in the Sugar Bowl, when conference champions were locked into Bowl contracts. The Hurricanes were supposed to walk all over UT and be annointed National Champs. Instead, Tennessee dominated Miami. 35-10 if I remember right. You could hear in the announcers voices that they expected Miami to come roaring back any minute. Never came close. Or look at this year. On any given day, most top 20 teams could win against any other top 20 team if they get a couple of breaks.
Even if the SEC and Big 10 do end up winning most of the time they’re making more money off of it. Also, we’re guaranteed to get at least some big upsets.
oregon barely squeaked by boise and wisconsin. bama lost to vandy. texas has zero ranked wins. these "top-tier" teams are a lot more vulnerable than SEC heads would like to admit, and I think the playoff will finally make that proveable.
Never been a fan of the 12 team playoffs. What did we get 2 maybe 3 memorable games in the opening round? Georgia vs Oklahoma one year OSU vs Bama in another OSU vs Georgia I think TCU vs UM. So maybe 6 games when you add in UM and Bama and Texas bs Washington. 6 out of 18 games were worth watching. Now admittedly the opening round games now could be a lot of fun. The second round games are probably going to be basically all blowout games in my opinion.
Yeah, I completely agree with you. 12 teams is way too many for college football the gap between some of these SEC teams and Big Ten teams the top echelon is huge. The teams like the Georgia the Alabama to Texas even the Ole Miss better than a lot of these teams are gonna get in the best thing for the committee is if the SEC cannibalize each other will you only get like two SEC teams in the field is filled with ACC group of five Big Ten teams a big 12 teams because if you get four SEC teams in I can almost guarantee the winters gonna be one of the SEC Oregon or Ohio State those are really the only teams that have legitimate shot Miami is not that good have you watched their games? Clemson sucks. They’re not what they used to be because he doesn’t know how to use the portal. I mean there’s literally no team in the ACC that can really win it. Only two teams in the Big Ten have a shot as Oregon Ohio State and Oregon wasn’t even in the last year I mean it’s gonna be a large bids like the BYU Indiana we’re gonna get skull drug it’s gonna be a joke and a funny thing. You’re the first person to mention the fact that half these teams have no business being here. I take three Los, Alabama Ole Miss, even Tennessee over BYU or Boise State or Indiana. Would one or no losses to Ohio State is also better than any team that I just mentioned not the mission Oregon.
@@LEG2023 disagree. We see upsets happen in the SEC with Vanderbilt, South Carolina, etc. I don’t see why teams who are on that level can’t give us exciting playoff games and I wouldn’t say BYU and Boise State are much different than them (they’re probably even better). It’s just SEC bias.
First there are 67 teams in the P4 and 68 teams between the G5 + independents. Your average P4 team will have a better record than your average G5 team. That would make the reasonable expectation of P4 teams to win most Playoffs. However I would expect eventually the G5 teams to win one. Also the argument of one conference is so dominate reminds me of the 2010 NCAA basketball tournament with the Big East. They go 8 teams in the tournament that year with an addition 5 in the NIT. 13 of the 16 teams going to the post season. As a Conference as favorites, they were 7-7 in the tournament while as the dogs they were 1-1 (2 seed WV beat 1 seed Kentucky) This includes a 3 seed Georgetown loss to 14 Ohio In the NIT it the favorites went 2-2, as the dogs 0-3
waaaa waaaa, lets go to 16 or 24 teams and let the results on the field instead of with thoughts of pundits and the bloviators on the internet. I sick of picking by brand instead of what happens on the field.

Even if the big teams win every year I’ll still take the 12 teams over 4 any day
Just one major upset a year in the playoffs would be amazing
@ totally! Even last year with 4 teams we saw a pretty major upset with Washington over Texas. Imagine what could happen with 12 teams!

More parity. More fun. More chaos. More money.
March Madness gives us all reason to believe there will be plenty of upsets in football, too.
I love all the chaos !!! GIVE ME ND as National Champs ☘☘🍻🍻🏆🏆
Why not Broncos?🐴
Or Cougars? 🐱
Perhaps the Mustangs? 🐎
Unless you are a golden domer those make much more fun National Champions.

Biggest fear
Oregon runs out
Iu beats ohio state
Byu runs out
Smu runs out
Boise state runs out
Army runs out
Bama, uga, a&m lose a third game.
Top 6 vs wild cards
College Football is not the NFL and it never will be.
First Baby!
Bad
