I found the easiest way to determine the appropriate camshaft to put in my 74 Camaro 350, 2 bbl engine, feeding through a turbo 350. I opened the Competition Cams catalog and read the expected performance from each of their cams. I chose a cam designed to improve my performance on the bottom of the rpm range. Got the CC timing chain and gear set at the same time. Added a set of Cyclone headers and turbo mufflers. The good: remarkably better performance from takeoff up a little passed 4k rpm. If I do another cam upgrade, I'll use the exact same method to determine my new cam. But your video was great too....and completely over my head.
What he is talking about is Resonance Induction. When the intake pulses resonate they become lile a passive forced induction system. Back in the old days, some builders placed the Carburetors at the en of a long tube. Depending of the length, shockwaves will be created in the same fashion is done at the exhaust. The problem with that setup is the engine is locked to a set of RPMs. Have anybody noticed how some engines have no bottom end and all the sudden wakea up at let us say, 3,500 RPMs? Such an instrument is the turbo encabulator. Now basically the only new principle involved is that instead of power being generated by the relative motion of conductors and fluxes, it is produced by the modial interaction of magneto-reluctance and capacitive diractance. The original machine had a base plate of pre-famulated amulite surmounted by a malleable logarithmic casing in such a way that the two spurving bearings were in a direct line with the panametric fan. The latter consisted simply of six hydrocoptic marzlevanes, so fitted to the ambifacient lunar waneshaft that side fumbling was effectively prevented. The main winding was of the normal lotus-o-delta type placed in panendermic semi-boloid slots of the stator, every seventh conductor being connected by a non-reversible tremie pipe to the differential girdle spring on the “up” end of the grammeters. The turbo-encabulator has now reached a high level of development, and it’s being successfully used in the operation of novertrunnions. Tony you're having a senior moment. The last time I heard of encabulation for camshafts was the Honeywell turbo encabulation as applied to camshafts for smoothing disharmonic spiral wave forming from counterbalance frequencies in the friction boundary between babbit metal and surface treatment of camshaft surfaces during high spring loading during high rpm operations. Encabulation had been replaced by digital constabulation of the film thickness of the friction pattern of the camshaft in the early 2000's
the encabulation calculators of the 60s and 70s were very rudimentary, we've come a long way from the days of Spurving Bearings and cardinal grameters.
Measure lift @ 46 degrees past max exhaust lift to the start or bottom of the base circle, multiply by the rocker-arm ratio, deduct 1/3 of the valve lash, and then multiply that by lobe-taper. Great! but how is lobe-taper determined for a solid roller like my Howard's 110-183-10 which is the best street cam I ever ran in my 1st gen smblk Chevy? With a 3:54 Dana 60 and a TKO 600 I was a regular Hway Star coming home on I-95 and I-4 from Jacksonville this Christmas and it didn't even break into a sweat. Anyway, we take the calculated number and multiply it by intake duration. Now is that advertised duration or from .050" to .050" ? Then we square that number and subtract the total intake and exhaust lift. Is that at the lobe or the valve with the rocker ratio we're using and is it the addition of the two or just the highest between them; and all this calculation gives us an approximate multiple of engine RPM divided by cylinder bore? Then we simply multiply the square of the bore and 6.332 for a reference number to compare our calculated value to and if it's lower great and if it's higher "Aww S !" ?

Power being generated by the relative motion of conductors and flutes it is produced by the interaction of magneto reluctant and capacitive. The original machine had a base of pre-logic in such a way that the bearings were in a direct line with a pan consistent, simply six hydropic veins fitted the lunar side, fumbling, was effectively preventing normal plots of every seventh conductor being connected by a non-reversible differential on the end of the Grammys.

Great! but how is lobe-taper determined for a solid roller like my Howard's 110-183-10 which is the best street cam I ever ran in my 1st gen smblk Chevy?
Loved the encabulation dance you did at the start. Very big in the german clubs back in the 30s 😂😂
Ahead of your time. Four months, roughly, ahead of your time.
Tony, those Chrysler engineers would be proud of your presentation.
What a video to end the year on 👍 Bravo, UTG.
I was this many days old when I learned really big engines have an entablature.
I’d expect this on April 1st
If I understand you correctly, you are saying that all things being equal we should always use a purple cam?
THIS OLD MAN HAS NO CLUE ABOUT BUIDING ENGINES. HE BUILT A 318 AND NICK'S GARAGE COULD NOT DYNO IT SINCE IT HAD ZERO OIL PERSSURE.
I had this problem years ago, didn't have a name for it the but I do now. thanks Tony
My dad told me that if I encabulate too much, I would go blind.
Just so everybody knows, absolutely horrible terrible scary scandalous things will happen if you get it wrong. All those things are undescribed.
Precisely. Thankfully, I always run the calculations to avoid this phenomenon. Good share Tony.
Here I am thinking someone "AI"-ed Uncle Tony....shadowless non moving perfectly lit background..minor variations in character to background...no chirping birds...and a very closed room echo.
I thought...."Those damn Toasters got to him!"
Camshaft Encabulation! Another UT production goes GOLD! 😅
Happy New Year Tony! 🎉
Check the granular viscosity of the water first so you can ascertain the fragability of your oxidized tissular substratum
The same thing happens when the doogen pin slips the siz wheel...that's what my Dad always told me...
What I got out of this was - I'll pay an expert as a consultant to calculate out my camshaft the next time I build an engine.
Wow! Great lesson and sharing of knowledge Tony! Happy New Year to you and the Missus!!!
Its like basically using an eq to make things work. You just gotta know how how to adjust mids and the highs and the lows.
You forgot to mention the development of the Frankman Lunar Waneshaft, which is also proudly displayed next to his Dual Vortex Radial Pinion Band Camshaft at the '64 World's Fair.
Didn't Chrysler develop the first turboencabulator back in the 70's? I installed my cam with a logarithmic baseplate made from pre-fabulated amulite and it eliminated most of my issues.
