I had two sets of the Original Dwarven Forge in Resin and those were pretty heavy compared to what they have out now.
My group all pitched in and bought the sets after using them at Gencon when they first came out years ago.
I agree. The true winner is us gamers. These days there are so many gaming accessories and such a variety of board games, etc. So much better than when I was growing up in the 1990s. :)
you can break the tiles by letting the clips push up or down on them when you carry them like you were picking up your tavern, they split in the middle....I've learned to use 2 clips instead of 1 and on the edges and usually don't do interior walls anymore because I want to simulate fog of war
My volume was on it's highest settings
Warlocks main advantage is being able to buy them at normal shops, more for your money and half height means it’s easier for play. Not to mention double sided floors and the separate walls offer more flexibility
Just an fyi... you lose *57* squares in the core set of dwarven forge due to walls. I mean add to that the 12 less than the warlock tiles means basically 70 less squares just in the core set. It's not even close.
Yep, I noticed he didn't really touch on how much real estate is lost to walls.
I’m glad someone said this and did the math. Square footage versus usable floor space (play area) is a huge difference.

you are very right, the walls are indeed a big issue with Dwarven forge's design.
Plus with the ability to flip tiles over, you basically have two sets.
I have as ton of Dwarven Forge, and for durability and artistry, they just can't be beat. But, man those WarLock tiles sure are more practical (cheaper, half-walls make the playing surface more accessible, and clips keep things together easier). Definitely a place for both in a collection.

I imagine they're also lighter. I don't intend to buy any of this, I don't care for WizKids in general, but I have a 3D printer and my Rampage dungeon tiles are a lot lighter than my Dwarven Forge. If I didn't have the ability to print my own dungeons, plus several grand worth of Dwarven Forge (including castles, which you can't get from Wizkids, but can get 3D printed), Warlock might be more tempting. It's a case of too little too late as far as I'm concerned. But I'm glad there are options available to suit the needs of different people.
On a budget Warlock tiles is the way to go. If I could afford it would definitely get Dwarven Forge. I am sure Dwarven Forge will evolve as they always continue to do.
@@rmartinez021973 If you're really on a budget, there are tons of amazing crafting videos on TH-cam that show you how to make your own. As I mentioned in another comment, I do a combination of Dwarven Forge, 3D printing, and crafting from xps foam (and other inexpensive materials). I recommend Black Magic Craft, Tabletop Witchcraft, RP Archive, and Landveatter's Lair to get started. If you decide to go this route, happy crafting!
I do think the DF paint jobs are better, but I could certainly see doing some minor paint touch-ups to Warlock tiles to make them dungeon side of the floor and walls pop a bit more.

Now to throw Dungeons & Lasers in to the mix...
I just got two of these sets and I must say I am in love with them. Been playing around with a few setups and with having two sets I can build some pretty large dungeons and structures. I snapped one all together the first few times (GET THE EZ CLIPS! WORTH EVERY PENNY!) then tried building them room by room to add as the players explore. With me having to be a traveling DM (one of my friends doesn't drive so we all go to his house) This will be perfect for me to build the rooms at home, put them in a bin, and take them out and assemble as we play. can't really do that with DF. And their accessory packs are awesome! you get a lot of bang for your buck. I recently bought 2 one horse wagons unpainted for $16 total. Just bought the Warlock Encampment set for $32. It came with 42 pieces including 3 large tents, 2 lean to's, campfire, roasting spit, tripod hanging cooking pot, some fish kabobs, 4 open bedrolls, 2 packed bed rolls, a riding horse, hitching post, firewood stack and pile, splitting block with ax, Resting bench, table and 4 stools, a barrel of weapons, 2 treasure chests with gold pile inserts, a freaking dog, AND one of the exact same carts I just got, and everything is PAINTED. But the DF Tavern set with the little tables with LED candles holds a special place in my heart. Great stuff, but expensive.
I dont own either. I have always wanted dwarves forge tiles as they look amazing. But the fact the warlock version connects to 3d printed sets and the walls don't eat up half a tile square are significant pros for me when I finally do get to invest in my own set. The double sided tiles are just a cherry on top.

Ditto. From a gameplay perspective, the fact that they don’t eat up half a tile makes a big difference in terms of the number and type of dungeon complexes I can create on my table. Gameplay always wins out over aesthetics for me.
I am in the exact same boat and feel the exact same way. After hungering for DF for years, I think I will go with Warlock instead. Rick really nailed it on the availability as well. The sets are out of stock for more than half the year, every year. I think there are still some cool things Dwarven Forge produce that is easily used with the Warlock tiles.
Now I can't wait for you to come up with your very own layout for this new sets. And a walk-through adventure like How you did for the dwarven Forge layout. 👍👍 Keep it up man.
i just ordered 2 sets of these tiles and a few expansion packs thanks to seeing this video. I was able to get the big sets on sale for $70 instead of $100 over on Amazon. Thank you for the great review!

To dress up the WizKids Warlock Tiles: paint them with Minwax Polyshades Royal Walnut urethane-stain. It will run down, pooling in the recesses, but it will also give everything a brownish wash. I think it would be quite an improvement, making them look very similar to the DF product. You will need to watch for excessive pooling, and wick it away, with a paper towel's edge. This technique is simple, fast, incredibly efficient, and effective. By the way, this technique is known as "The Dip Technique," and it is amazing on terrain pieces, such as these. Do NOT dip your pieces in the urethane-stain! Paint it on, only. Cheers!

@@williamegan6756 Yes, it will. Try it on a sample piece, to make sure you like the results. If you do, it will be super-fast, compared to a standard paint/dry-brush approach. If you want more color variations, apply a simple paint scheme, picking out a few stones, then apply The Dip Technique -- still much faster than traditional methods. Cheers!

If you are doing that work, why would you not just print out a set of floors on a 3-D printer and paint them yourself. I mean it isn't like this isn't a base paint of brown, two quick dry brushes and then a white wash. That is already better than these will look.

I'm very happy with my Warlock Tiles.
I'd love to pick up some Dwarven Forge as well, however international shipping for DF is very expensive. I recently looked at ordering roughly $500 worth of DF and the shipping to AU was $200. The Warlock Tiles are just more accessible for me.

Thank you SO much for the side-by-side comparison! You just sold me on the Warlock tiles. Dwarven Forge may be easier to put together, but Warlock just looks so much more practical. Plus.... this way I can support my FLGS.
And it's interesting you mentioned 40k in your description. My first thought when I saw those was, "hey! I could use those for 40k!"
As much as I love and prefer Dwarven Forge, I do see Warlock Tiles being a significant competitor for the mere fact that they'll have much greater market saturation. Being able to get Warlock Tiles almost anywhere is going to be a hard competition for DF's KS and webstore exclusive models. I will still be sticking with Dwarven Forge but I hope they'll consider how to best address the competition moving forward.
Dwarven Forge may continue to focus on more special and artistic pieces. It is unfortunate that their recent KS's have become expensive. The current Kickstarter is very artistic, but each piece is coming in at around $8 - $10 per piece in the new sets (prior to stretch goals). However, Warlock tiles may never have the kind of Wildlands or Forest pieces that have come out of the last couple Kickstarters. It is likely WizKids will have more "basic" sets and Dwarven Forge will have more specialized sets. We shall see.
@@RagingOwlbear Good point. Although Wizkids have been doing things like Farmsteads and the Goblin Village, along with a Castle Tower and large Bridge coming, so it may depend, but they are well behind Dwarven Forge in terms of offerings and if you want artistic, DF is where it's at.
@@forsakenprogeny Yeah, you're absolutely right. I wasn't thinking as much about the 4D sets... Those could really cut into DF depending on where the themes go.
forsakenprogeny The Wizkids folks appear to be well on the case. We are getting Caverns and Underground tiles early next year, and Wilderness tiles in late 2020 or early 2021. They know they have something here and plan to move far more quickly than the Dwarven Forge guys did into this space. I can’t remember which Gallant Goblin video mentioned this, but it is certainly on their timetable.
I'm just starting with Dwarven Forge, backing their Wildlands KS now as it are all outside area's...for indoors, I'll be using the warlock tiles, together with my 3D printed openlock truetiles, sprinkled with Terrain Crate and other Wizkids 4D settings. With that I'm more than set to build encounters for my D&D games

Same here, and now there are once again no dungeons in their new Kickstarter campaign. I wish I pledged for the dungeon of doom back then. Fortunately, I found out about Hyper Forge, and now I'm waiting for their Kickstarter Campaign instead. Their magnetic system looks like it's superior in so many ways.. a lot smaller to carry or store, quicker to build and dismantle and way more flexible in the number of builds that it allows. On top, it will have basic pieces available, not just scatter terrain and leftovers from previous campaigns.
This has gotten much better recently. They're restocking much more frequently.
So Rick, thanks for doing this. Hearing the 40 minutes to build a dungeon, makes me want to steer away from Warlock, but the fact like you said easy to get. I think based on what you said I'm gonna buy both basic sets and see for myself. Again thanks.
Absolutely, and they both have their uses! I'll typically use DF for one-off encounters or for special adventures and I'll clip together some WarLock Tiles if I'm traveling or going to need a build for longer periods of time.

Great job Rick. I like the Warlock tiles for their stairs and dressings, but I think I will stick with DF for the tiles and sets themselves.

I don't think Warlock Tiles will ever have the polished look that Dwarven Forge has, but for just the easy usability for Warlock Tiles has been great, being able to get so much for your money, it's great.
I did pick up Dwarven Forge Caverns Core Mega Pack and it's great! The only thing I'm wishing it had more of was floor space. I often play with 6-8 players, and without having a larger amount of Dwarven Forge, it's going to be tight compared to what my money gets me for Warlock Tiles.
It's also 2021, and my Caverns pack has magnets on the bottom. These are incredibly necessary in my opinion. The downside is that LORDY the terrain trays are WAY more expensive than they should be, especially since basically every build that uses trays will use at least two of them, and that'll be $50 right there alone.
Gosh, and Dwarven Forge stock...ugh, it's terrible. Heck, having so many options in finishing is actually pretty crazy. I can't imagine wanting to get a snow pack, or lava pack, in addition to having a normal caverns pack. I suppose that's for people with a huge income who have more money than they can spend.
They're both great, and either way it'll be worth it. You can make tons of great stuff with Warlock Tiles. You can get tons of feedback about good stuff to get with DF, especially on their discord.

it seems like you can merge them both...the sizes seem to some how compliment each other......maybe for a two story high build, use dwarvenforge for the bottom flat and warlock for the top flat...... I dunno I'm looking at them both and my imagination just running away from me with crazy ideas by merging the two LOL
I have Warlock tiles, and have made several modules to take in a bag to the club the day after tomorrow, they are pretty light to carry and will be up to play in in 5 minutes. I couldn't do that with Dwarven Forge!
I use a mat and some styrofoam walls that I made. I made stone style and cavern/mine style. Works wonderful cost me a 4x4 1in sheet foam cutter and some cheap paint.
Now the dressing pieces I might pick up some of those
I am in shock with how expensive these dungeon tile sets cost. I would love to get started with collecting dungeon tile sets to play with my crew, but just seeing how little the dungeons end up being for a whole hundred is crazy for me. Wanting to build a medium/larger dungeon would set me back a lot of money.
Guess I'll stick with paper printed dungeons for the time
I don't have the spare money for this stuff right now but as a father of 3 who DMs with the kids a few times a month the WizKids set looks to be a better buy for me, no more messed up maps due to table flips. as for painting I'm fine with the tiles not having anything on the sides and the ability to flip the tiles to build out a mixed floor is a better setup, add in some cardboard/cardstock/Construction paper and things to make it look like the map continues over into nothing make the wizkids set what i would spend that extra cash on. I have done plenty of work with my hands so not going to be bothered by the clips and i can build out a map that can be used early in the day and store out of sight and then bring it in all at once ready to go and not build on the fly, building on the fly does not work with kids and short attention spans
they are very inconvenient to put together though. those clips are literally made for breaking fingers.
I'm turning 33 this year and i have put together models and played with toys from as far back as the 70s, I'm not worried about my fingers going a little raw, and I'll still have the option to prep this stuff the morning of or even the night before, this will give me more room to focus on prepping for the crazy stuff my kids try to pull to get out of a room or 2
@@pixelrscore I turned 34, played tennis and 40k in high school, my favorite color is blue, I have 2 daughters, and I don't see how any of it makes these damn clips any better. maybe checking out their upcoming "EZ clips", that might improve my situation.
it might, i have just done alot of work with my hands both in construction and farm work, it will take alot more then some clips to mess with me, and i get more for the price
Cool. I didn't know WizKids made dungeons like that. I have cardboard scenery tiles that I have bought which can work when you don't want to spend so much money. Even the WizKids sets add up to around $800 now and the DwarvenForge is in the thousands. For $150 I can use my printed, double sided cardboard sets just fine with some printed cardboard standee NPCs. Yeah, those others look better, but I don't want to spend thousands of dollars to play D&D, plus all the monster packs. The price gets pretty crazy in my opinion. And the amount of space required to store all of that stuff adds up too.
I guess if that is someone's only hobby it may be worth it to them, but if you have multiple hobbies that you need to divide your discretionary money among, and space to consider then I'd go with my current stuff. The only extra thing I'd invest in is the spell effects pack/terrain, the status effects to attach to minis/standees, etc. So for $250 to $300 I can have a 2' by 2' by 1' box with all of my stuff in it.
it wouldn't be so bad if they hadn't made getting accessories for the game I love (D&D) into another game called "Collecting" where if you arrive to the game late you are punished for being late and you can't have everything you want no matter how much money you have
Another thing to consider is how long will Warlock will be available? They say they fully support it but in a few years unless very successful it will stop and wizkids will be onto the next product. For Dwarven forge it is their bread and butter, as long as the company exists they will make these or similar tiles
Yeah the nice thing about any kind of terrain like this is that it doesn't expire. I have terrain and accessories from manufacturers that folded years ago, but still get full use out of it. Obviously the company still being in business is nice for additional variety, but your old stuff doesn't become useless if the company stops supporting the line.
When you show us a mega-dungeon, please try to use some height differences like with the maps from the Lost Mines of Phandelver. Or even try to make one of the maps! :-D

Availability is the winning vote here. But really think about how many times people ram their knees on the table legs.....Dwarf Forge will separate and characters get repositioned. Another WIN!

nylon or rubber tipped jewelers pliers make the clips sooooo much easier to use.
I am still trying to figure out which set I like more. I recently finally got an income where I can spend some without worrying about survival, so I bought the starter Warlock set and some of the Cavern sets from Dwarven Forge. I like how durable the Dwarven Forge tiles are, and you can use sticky tack to keep pieces from moving around if you don't have the magnetic pieces. I was really annoyed with the Warlock clips as I did not realize that there was a method to clip them efficiently. I ended up breaking one of the large room tiles. Their not as durable as I would have liked, but after watching your review and hearing about a more positive experience from a friend, I might give the Warlock tiles another shot. Especially since they are a lot readily available. Their village set and set dressings do look appealing. Thank you for making this video and giving a good comparison.
Thanks Rick, this was the comparison many of us were looking for! For me, this comparison was an out and out win for the Warlock Tiles. Factoring in cost, ease of use during gameplay, availability, aesthetic look (like you, I just love those wooden floors), and storage/transportation the Warlock Tiles just represent far superior value now over Dwarven Forge. Would I invest in Dwarven Forge if I had all the money on the world? Yes, of course - but I don’t, and the sheer scale of what you can build with the Warlock Tiles for far less, at a quality that isn’t too far off, make it a no-brainer for me.
Gotta say after playing around with the warlock tiles I’d have to say that a pair of pliers will be super handy because it makes those clips a lot easier to use

Y'know, WizKids impressed me back in the day with their "Mage Knight: Dungeons" stuff. You can look it up, it started with some dressings you could throw into that game... and became a 3D snap-together game which was pretty good stuff back then for the price. (The clips were a little fragile, not as durable as you show here, but still worked like a charm.) I still have it in the closet, but the problem was how - as a set - it was optimized more for the Clix base size and didn't quite suit your average D&D minis.

I think your analysis was fair! There's definitely a market for both and I agree we are fortunate to have the choice! I get that you focus on moving the play area but I don't seem to have a problem in that regard when I use the builds, but I also have terrain trays if needed. Are you going to fund Wildlands when it comes out on Kickstarter for Dwarven Forge?!
I am strongly considering it! Mostly because I'd love some outdoor terrain, and the little teasers we've seen make it looks like they'll be useful for all kinds of tabletop games.
Been collecting DF for a few years now. I know I'm echoing a lot of the comments but their prices alienate most of the hobbyist who would like to purchase their products. Even their current Kickstarter seems way overpriced for how little terrain you're going to receive. I'm very happy that companies like WizKids and Monster Fight Club exist as they are legitimate competitors in both quality and price. I love Stefan and the crew, this isn't a knock to them but I can't justify those prices and I like to believe I make a decent salary and I have no kids. Great review!
Exactly. That's my problem with DF. I mainly play miniatures games like Frostgrave, Ghost Archipelago and Rangers of Shadow Deep. They are played on a 3x3 table and paying $1,715 (unpainted) and $2,640 (painted) for this size it's insane.
How is it possible that the terrain from Games Workshop is actually cheaper? The price tag is way over the top. I can't justify more than $2k for painted terrain. I believe that if they lower their prices they would probably get more business.
You get more terrain with Dungeons & Lasers 2 for $98 and it even includes a dragon. At the end of the day,no one plays with these sets outside on the street with cars passing and running over your terrain. So the excuse that they use a super durable plastic (dwarvenite) as a selling point is pure nonsense. Both,the wizkids and Dungeons & Lasers are just as durable.
Amazing comparison. I think there’s enough differences that for one person it might be an easy decision to choose dwarven forge while for another it might be an easy decision to choose warlock. For example personally I like the higher walls and really dislike the idea of the clips, much preferring the magnets. So for me dwarven forge is easily the better option. But for many people the clips may be a big boon and the higher quantity is far more economic, plus the double sided floors. I like how both just aren’t copies. They each bring something the other doesn’t, and it makes them both good options, just comes down to personal preferences.
This was a super useful, side by side comparison! I would add the drop factor is missed. Warlock is plastic and more forgiving then the Dwarven Forge product.
Hopefully warlock tiles will release an unpainted version as I would want darker tone on the tiles or a way to recreate some iconic dungeons. What they need to release is the inner walls that slide between the two so I can just buy those.
Sure a repaint wouldn’t be too difficult. Certainly a darker tone could be achieved with some washes

Just stumbled onto WarLock at the local game store today. I've got a heap of Dwarven Forge - but it's all the older resin stuff and the first Kickstarter. After KS one...DF went off the deep end in needlessly complex and hideously expensive expansion - chasing the "Whale" model of consumer beyond that of the normal DM/GM. I think this is where WarLock stands a great chance to succeed. DF has continually strayed further and further from the "budget-conscious" gamer. They offer zero discounts, have no retailers and are very often out-of-stock of key components. So....WarLock is available from retailers, is already decently discounted, and I can count on them to likely keep producing them at reasonable intervals. I don't like hard plastic and clips, and honestly I may not even buy any WarLock stuff - but I'd love to see it succeed - as something I can suggest to gamers/friends/convention-goers.
After watching a few comparison videos it seems to me that the Warlock Tiles are the better value option, with more for your buck, double sided tiles, the locking together is nice, and currently on Amazon they are $30 less than this comparable Dwarven Forge set, and you get more playable space for that price. Like you said, they don't have the variety yet, but DF is almost always out of stock, and so expensive. As someone who is just now wanting to get into collecting terrain, these Warlock ones seem like the best bet, because they'll probably be releasing new sets right along with my ability to afford them, so I'll be able to pick up the new sets as they come out, which will be cool.
Can you do some builds with DF and WK together? I'd like to see a dungeon that plays to the strength of each set. Frex, corridors walls make it difficult to move figures in DF tiles, so I end up not using walls at all.
I gotta go with wiz kids. Mostly for the interlocking pieces. Both look awesome. You can always buy some sheets of magnets similar to refrigerator magnets, and glue them to the bottoms of the riles. But I feel a magnet system would add more weight to an already cumbersome product. Plus, the wiz kids, you can totally store premade rooms and interchange them on the fly to create an instant dungeon on the fly if you have some generic rooms pre made. Instead of just storing them as single pieces. Store them as rooms. And I wonder if placing the clips in hot water for a minute would make any difference Before you start a big build.
Love the idea of keeping certain areas prebuilt! And they are coming out with easier to use clips so I can't wait to see what difference those make!
wish they published the 3d models of all the pieces online so i could just 3d print and paint them myself as needed.
This was REALLY helpful. I'm sticking with Dwarven Forge. Whoever designed this DEFINITELY didn't look into DF's history; all of the pieces to fill in gaps, connector pieces, all mistakes DF made a long time ago and has since remedied. It's not a bad product, but DF is still light years ahead.
I’m big into Dwarvenforge like thousands and thousands but I will say I do a lot of transport the man pull of warlock is it looks LIGHT Dwarvenforge is heavy

Don't forget, you don't have to use the clips! There's no reason you couldn't set up a layout without the clips just like you would with DF.
Yah, the review missed the point that the clips are completely optional, or the fact that you can build rooms and halls separately and place them as players explore.
Hands down Dwarven Forge is the better product with a huge variety of options to build, but it's extremely expensive, and very hard to find as they are rarely in stock for long due to small production .
I just kickstarted Dungeons and Lasers, and have been looking at Warlock tiles and potential compatibility. No one has compared the sets so far...
personally, i like the warlock tiles much better. you get way more for your money with them having something on both sides.
Keep in mind you don't necessarily need to put in a clip on every time you could just do room by room for an easy fog of war effect just by adding/ removing rooms.

DF seems really overpriced. I'm glad they've got additional competition.
yeah, this competition is pretty bad though. the price is still super high, the quality is still cheap Chinese plastic, and the design is pretty bad by comparison. I was hoping for a quality competitor.

For me, the biggest thing is if it's 3D or 2.5D. I am not a fan of full 3D walls, because once you get the dungeon set up and you're running through it, it's hard to move things without knocking stuff over and causing all sorts of issues. With 2.5D (meaning the walls are, at the most, half-height) It's easier to move things around so you don't have worry about knocking things over and messing up your dungeon.
Use small pliers to clip or unclip. I bought a small pliers that fit inside the carry case .
How well does the sets play together? Since Dwarven Forge has so many expansion sets. I could see me getting the warlock starter set and then mix and matching both sets.
Not bad, though the warlock tile floors are a bit thinner.
I'm thinking to invest in one of this two, there is a lot of pro for WizKids but the half walls are a problem for me. If I put so much money, time and energy in this kind of thing that's mostly for immersion. I can imagine that this small walls are great for visibility and moving your minis, but I find them a little immersion breaking...

I have built and played with warlock tiles and a few things annoyed me but that may change in the future.
The single doors still take up two tiles of space on the map and not just one.
There are no thin one by one tile sections to make more odd rooms.
There needs to be more interior doors in this set, having two was annoying.
Those clips are sometimes really hard to clip pieces together and can eventually hurt your hands but they seem pretty strong and durable (for now) wonder how many clicks/unclicks ill get before they break.
I agree with all of what you said! Thankfully, single doors are coming (and there already are some in the doors pack), different sized walls and floors are coming, and more interior doors can be found in the expansion pack. And easier to use clips are also coming, i did a video on them (EZ Clips). So they're definitely listening to our feedback!
Until I have the money, I will have to stick with my Jenga and legos for dungeon building. They work really well. I made lego table miniatures and they are perfect.

These clips are so rugged I'm waiting to hear about a single break.

A big advantage of Dwarven Forge is the full height walls, because it allows you to throw a roof on any set-up at any time, and you have a realistic building or level.
No one will ever make a decent looking city or keep, or even a multi-level set-up, of Warlock tiles.
Don't forget, as I mention in the video, full height WarLock Tile walls are coming!
Ive gone back and forth on this myself, and I think: If your JUST getting into it, WarLock. If you HAVE DF, or find them used? or cheap? Heres how I use them: Warlock gets all my premades done and out of the way, but when my party strays, (RIGHT..>?>) Then I just connect two separate locales with the D'Forge...
I initially loved the dwarves forge, but I had problem with the design. I’m a DM that sets my campaign in the forgotten realms. I tried using the dwarfs forge during a dungeon run in the undermountain. I found it problematic to follow the map when building my encounters using the Dwarven Forge.

I have to say WizKids tiles are a lot better and you get more for almost the same price plus better features, but I think I'll be sticking to the openlock system (Which the Warlock connections are based on). I can print out as much as WizKids give in this set for $20 and I can paint them myself which is a big part of the Hobby I love... But if you don't have a 3D printer, by all means, go for the WizKids Warlock tiles, they are great quality for a great Price and you get more out of what you spend...
Full squares even in corners! Warlock tiles for the win. Dwarven Forge puts the walls on the square, Warlock puts the walls outside of the square. It's a no brainer. Dwarven forge needs to change.
To be fair, many of DF's latest offerings do provide free standing walls that would allow you to do the same, though they are definitely not as thin as WarLock interior walls, so you'll still have some work keeping things on the grid.
I wasn't too keen on Dwarven Forge, paint is meh, so always buy the unpainted but barely get a discount for it. They are always out of stock of any of the nicer sets and you never know when they are going to come back in stock. I also can't purchase 1-3 piece if I need it, that to me is a deal breaker if I just want a set of cavern floor tiles with 3 columns. I have to purchase 12-18 columns instead of paying for just 3.
My dwarven forge tiles are older. Mine use bowtie connectors between the tiles. I never liked the dwarvenite tiles. Dwarven forge also never gives enough doors in their kits. And the doors they do give you are not built into walls.
Also older dwarven forge tiles did not cut into playable space.
the issue i have with both is when I run a d&d campaign i usually have many different types of dungeons for my players. so the versatility just is not there at all. Doesn't justify the cost of these. Also i like to have my players explore the dungeon so i draw it out as they go. If the dungeon is already pre built it kills the mystery. Idk I like the 3d aspect of it but I just cant justify it.
Yeah i like the mystery too, so my players don't actually see the rooms. They're off to the side and I fly them in (the clips make it sooo easy to bring in rooms and passages as needed). WarLock Tiles were literally just introduced a couple weeks ago, so I can forgive their lack of diversity. We won't have to wait long though. More environments are coming!
Warlock are better in almost every way except DF is slightly more aesthetically pleasing.
It does seem like it'd be a pain to put together a full room or floor with the warlock clips though. Any experience?

You can definitely do that, but they slide around really easily. Easier than Dwarven Forge that has a bit more friction to keep them in place since they are more rubbery
Compare the time it takes. Most times everything doesnt need to be attached.
Oh for sure, like I say in the video, without clips the DF sets go together in mere minutes, which would be the same for the WarLock tiles. And if you watch my WarLock build video, you'll see I don't clip everything together. That does save time, but to get the best use out of interior walls, you'll need to have clips between those tiles, otherwise they don't stay very well.
Here's what is all comes down to....how much do you want to spend?
I've been making my own tiles long before the internet, DM Scotty, Black Magic Craft, etc. If you don't have the patience or very basic skills to make your own, the sky's the limit on how much you want to spend.
Then there's 'TheDMGinfo' who had a whole series about the cardboard tiles.
I planned on making a set, but I don't have the storage space, currently, so what I have instead are the flat tiles which WOTC put out. (I've collected them little by little for a long time.) As long as I don't mind having mostly "grey dungeon floors"... it wound up almost as nice as dry-erase mats. (Of course, some extra effort was needed to ensure they wouldn't move due to a table jostle... I used removable glue dots once, they came off the surfaces fine...)
Of course, if someone came out with hex terrain like this for my BattleTech games...

I'm just really surprised with the quality from WizKids. They aren't known for great components and products. Acceptable was usually their norm.
If you have the bank, and have no inkling, resources, time, impetus, or minor skills in crafting your own.....this is a great set of modular tiles!

No, and while they've had records of really bad things in the past (hi Mechwarrior: Dark Ages!) ... it's not *complete* trash. Sure, talented hands could do better... but that's the issue with hobbyists - they have the time to do it over and over until it's what they want.
... and honestly, get you started on BattleTech? Please, I've been assembling my own terrain by hexes from foamcore for a while now. Can't wait to actually have my friends able to play with it and tell me how crap it is. :)

But then, my brother and I sat down and tore through the rulebook with an eye on "what the f--k do we actually NEED in here?" which would make veteran players have an aneurysm if they knew how much we tweaked it in places.
The second question as we made another pass was "is this rule fun?" - and if the answer was no, we just ignored it. Between that, some player-aids printed out for ourselves... games go smoothly even with comparatively massive armies.
But it's a game which desperately needs ... not an overhaul to an extent where it needs to be completely reworked, but it really needs different presentation of the rules. They're not gonna get new players with all the rules getting shoved onto someone immediately. But I found if you don't use the crazy finicky rules (infantry, aerospace...) and include one specific optional rule (Forced Withdrawal) then shockingly it's not that rough.
I dunno. It's heresy to even really suggest it, but there really should be a general agreement where weird random experimental tech should not be allowed anywhere near a table for a friendly pickup game.

Jeffrey Dickerson no. 100 isn’t that much, but this dude has 6 starter sets, 7 town and village sets, 6 stairs and ladders sets, 3 doors and archways sets, 7 of another set, and 2 of the summoning tile sets. And that’s JUST the warlock tiles, he’s got a metric ton of Dwarven Forge which is more expensive. Warlock tiles JUST released so it’s not like he built up his collection of warlock tiles over several years.
Jeffrey Dickerson let me put a number to that for you. That’s over 2200 dollars he’s dropped at once on warlock tiles terrain. That isn’t counting the other non warlock tile sets he’s bought or the Dwarven Forge. So again I ask, how TF this guy is affording this?

Now that it's been out for awhile this needs to be known. GET THE WARLOCK EZ CLIPS!!!! WAY easier to use and don't beat up on your fingers. it's $9 for a bag of 100 clips
