- The awesome new terrain product on the market from WizKids Games, Warlock Tiles have arrived! These were first on debut pack at PAX Unplugged 2019 and I'm so excited to have these in hand. I review and unbox the 2 main starter sets: Dungeon Tiles 1 and Town & Village 1. I also got the Stairs & Ladders expansion set as well. They are up for preorder on Amazon and it looks like the release date is August 14, 2020 (However my promo material says June 2020). What do you think?

Hey Ted, it would be cool to see a vid for what you can make from each base set, to get an idea of how much use you can get out of only one set. Loved the review man!

it appeared to me that you would need more than one set to do much, possibly a few of each, to have more than a room or 3 connected by some hallways, with only one you would be constantly breaking down the last room to make the next one
@@ghostfather1390 that's the unfortunate truth for dnd tiles unless you have a bunch in abundance you have to break them down to build along.

Painting terrain is more soothing than painting minis, but not as rewarding. I like doing both depending on my mood.
I have the Dungeon Tile set 1 & the dungeon expansion set 1 at the moment and I really love them. My kids love them too. If i had it to do over again I would have bought 2 sets of dungeon 1 sets instead of buying the expansion pack. For $40 more bucks I would have gotten a lot more corners and walls than buying the expansion pack. That's my 2 cents. I will buy getting the spell effects, dungeon dressings and other detail packs too. The bridge pack looks really awesome. If we lived closer, I'd game in person. Covid isn't as dangerous as they first thought it would be and masks seem to be doing the job. Great review, thanks for posting this one. I too feel like WizKidz really hit a homerun with their tile system. I have not tried any Dwarven Forged stuff yet. The work around for the floor height difference would be just to use the DF system for unattached rooms and on the other side of exterior doors.
Looks pretty cool would like to see an expansion of extra floor tiles though.
it sounds as if you could use a system for painting like mine, with a roll away mechanics tool chest with all of your painting supplies neatly stored and to hand, with a painting bench set up on top, that can be easily covered and protected with a box and rolled away, and back out again when a few minutes to progress on a project presents itself, having setup be a breeze makes the whole process that much more zen and satisfying
also, spend a somewhat boring afternoon grinding out priming all of the minis you have, so that you can just go straight to the fun part when you have a free moment to unwind with that figure that you have been longing to get on the board, Finally
just assembly line the process, get it over and done with, and you will not regret it, SO much nicer just picking one out and getting to the good stuff

I like how vee is a member of the tabletop crafters guild along with wyloch armoury, who is known in the crafting circles for his interlocking tiles. I’m curious to see if he had a little involvement. Regardless, these seem to be a lot more versatile and easier to transport and assemble pre game than dwarvenforge. It’s a big thing to have a map set up out of sight of your players and then be able to bring it over at the time of play to surprise them.
I bought several sets of these. Can't wait to get the rest. The staircases part is pretty much just the back of your hand, though.

there appeared to be a slot for attachment on the front of the stairs, there may not be any further slots to attach the stairs together
I would love a magnets mod for the clips so i can leave them in and set them up fast without hurting my hands. Setting them with pliers helps but seems kind of clunky.
Have you seen Hyper Forge's system?
Oooooooh Ted you should look into Battle Systems Fantasy Wargames Terrain (and Dungeon Terrain, though that will be getting an upgrade soon) I think you'd enjoy those too

For glass work they have rubber coated pliers, you could use a pair or something similar to grab the clips without breaking them.
I think it is more using a technique of pulling to one side before pulling outwards at an angle, to disengage the teeth from one side
Could use some iron bars walls for prison cells and such
I think the door expansion set has those!
I currently uses some Dwarven Forge supplemented with 3d printed minis and terrain I don't think I'm sold on these for the price. Theyre not really much cheaper than DF, but not much better quality than 3d printed tiles like printable scenery.
Same exact thought. I bought one set, but I am not convinced at all. They are very expensive for the build quality. I am now waiting for Hyper Forge's new campaign. Their design with magnets looks a lot more flexible in the builds, and quicker/easier to use.
Nice, I am drooling. Quick question about the boxes - can't be sure, but with the plastic insert removed, are they deep enough to hold built pre-built terrain with the lid closed?
I really wish they’d do something similar for heroclix. It would just make the experience better in my opinion.

The dungeon seem like so much work, and it would suck to actually play with. You would either have to build your dungeon beforehand-letting your players see the whole dungeon, or spend a minute to lock in the pieces at the table for every room.
unfortunately, it's way more than a minute. :(
i have noticed a draw back with these there is no 1x1 or 1x2 floor tiles
the geometrical variations that these tiles allow for are extremely limited. With just one set (as I have) there are only a limited number of configurations that you can build. There would be no use for 1x1 or 2x1 floors in this set since there would be no walls and corner options to use them. The only system I have ever heard of that is based on a 1x1 tile, is the one with magnets from Hyper Forge. That one looks way more flexible.
Very nice, but at $100 a pop for the dungeon set; has anyone notice the world wide financial crisis? Timing? I know quality is important but I think they might have considered something a bit more inexpensive? After all a cheap TV on the table (flat) for a couple hundred and a computer; now I have whatever map I want. I know they speak to different audiences but it just seems disconnected from reality.
They announced this a while back ago before the pandemic was around. They had announced the price before hand as well.

I agree, the price is insane.
I got hyped and bought a box. My issue with this is not really the price, but the quality for the price. It's very cheap china made plastic. It's not very flush, fits badly. The clips are awful. I bet there must be better stuff out there. I understand many people don't have a lot to spare, but this set at 70 USD from amazon doesn't look disconnected from reality to me. Tons of people are buying videogames for 90 USD and adding hundreds down the line in loot boxes or in-app purchases. Donating hundreds of dollars to streamers seems pretty common these days. Maybe there are a lot of different realities, and this is not yours. But again, physical product, handpainted (even if poorly), for 70 USD seems very connected to reality to me. too bad the quality is awful.

If it's the rampage tiles and then it should, as they use open lock correct?
Those connecting clips look like they get a lot of stress. I don't think they last long.
I bought one set. I just can't use those clips without hurting my hands. I hate them. Waiting on a bag of EZ clips now. Not sure how much better they will be.

looks amazing do wizz kids do something like a miniatures pack like linked to campaigns eg saltmarsh so it would have all miniatures you need as a dm ?
They do something similar, though it is fiddly imo. They release blind boxes of 4 prepainted miniatures from a set of about 50, 3 small/medium and 1 large/huge miniature depending on the set you get. They have released a box for most of the 5th edition campaign books including the campaign settings as some generic monsters too. They also do the same for pathfinder and there's a lot of useful cross over. The boxes tend to be about £15, so convert as needed, and can be bought online if you wish. You can also buy the miniatures individually on places like ebay but at much higher costs.

Pre made stuff is nice don't get me wrong but its way to damn expensive. Unless your getting it free from the makers its to hard on the wallet.
