      @@dainbramage3558 they ruined it by firing the bread and butter of the channel, it started to demise after Grant’s death, but Nate and Callie still brought in the views. Once they were fired, Grace’s, lets say young enthusiasm was to much for most.

      @@justaddbricks5527 i kindof agree, it definately changed alot after grants passing but i still enjoyed alot of what they were doing with nate and callie but it seemed to me around the time they started bringing in the other people i.e. Grace and the others whos names i dont remember the content seemed to shift alot, i personally dont have a problem with Grace or her presenting style but the actual content really left alot to be desired, then when they got rid of callie and nate that was just too much for me. I literally only even clicked on this video hoping to see this comment. So many July 4ths spent riding cardboard down the hill at a local park (which happened to also be the best place for viewing the fireworks). Hundreds of families gathered to watch fireworks and slide down the hill on refrigerator boxes and the like. (I guess it was more of an embankment? since it was very very long and ran along the river)

  • @OgdenM

    I did not know this is even a thing!!!! It looks so fun!
    You might be able to steer better on the ice board one if the back block is thicker then the front block.... So the you can step back a bit to raise the front of the board a bit and turn it then adjust your weight so the front is on the ground again.
    Maybe.
    Also, Nate; I'm so happy you're doing your own thing and that it isn't only knifes!

  • @DaveTexas
    @DaveTexas 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    I grew up innHouston, TX - a place that almost never had snow. From my birth through the end of high school, we had snow maybe three times, only one of which was more than an inch. Sledding, therefore, wasn’t a thing.
    There’s another huge problem, though: Houston is FLAT. The Texas Gulf coast plains are flatter than Kansas. No hills. No slopes (except on the sides of bayous and drainage ditches, neither of which would be a good place to sled).
    Except Houston did have one big "hill," at the Miller Outdoor Theater in Hermann Park. The outdoor theater has a big man-made hill into which the seating area is built, with further open grassy areas for seating higher up on the hill. The backside of this hill was a steeper slope with open park space at the base, making it perfect for sledding.
    We’d go to a convenience store/icehouse nearby and buy big blocks of ice, just as you described in the video here. We’d sometimes use towels and sometimes use pieces of cardboard (or both) to sit on as we sledged down the hill on 95° summer afternoons in the late 1970s and early 1980s. We’d lug the blocks of ice back up the hill, over and over and over, until we were too exhausted to do it anymore. Your sled would have been great!

    It’s actually pretty easy to make your own ice blocks if you have access to a chest freezer. Use a small igloo cooler - the lid filled with water. Makes nice solid cubes that take a long time to melt.

    So as a teenager in the 90’s I wore loafers or vans. The public library had a hill that was perfect for getting a good run up and skate the entire way down. The flat tread shoes were the best. If the grass was wet you could go an easy 150-200 yards. You had to have good balance or it looked like a cheese rolling race.

    I wonder about shaving a slight chamfer on the leading edge, so it doesn't dig in, but instead slides smoother over bumps. But also, you could carve a slight arch out of the middle of each block, so you effectively had two runners, one on each side with a gap between them. (Would work on any style of sled / iceblock)
