I love this car. Fitted with a lift kit, slightly bigger tires, and a locking diff it turns into a surprisingly capable (and reliable) vehicle. And the size, well,... when I was younger, I used to travel through Africa and Asia with a motorcycle. Once you've done that, you'll find the comfort level and the load-carrying capacity of the Jimny not only sufficient, it's impressive😁

I have this Jimny’s Grandpapa here in India…the Maruti Suzuki Gypsy. It is a veritable mountain goat. It is still sold in NZ as the Suzuki Farm Worker for use exclusively on farms and is not to be driven on the road. However the farm worker is a short wheelbase whereas the Gypsy in India is a slightly longer wheelbase. Because the Gypsy in India has been for 35-36 years, the preferred light transport and quick deployment go anywhere vehicle for our Armed Forces and Police and Forest Services etc.

Thank you Andrew, We have owned Suzuki 4X4's since 1980 starting with the LJ80 up to the current Jimny all being manual never tried an Auto,
& we have covered many hundreds of thousand km from the top end down the centre (When it was still dirt road) & East to West 13 times, &
anywhere in between. They have always had a 40lt tank with an average range of 430km so twin jerry can's in side sponsons gave us around 860km
A little mostly unknown fact is that when the Japanese decided to build these they based them off the Original WW2 Willy's Jeep,
If you check they are very similar in size & mechanical set up drum brake's etc & originally up until the Sierra in their appearance.
Anyway, thank you for once again another unbiased review, one more thing on Overlanding one of our longest stints camping/travelling was 22 days
you just have to plan the trip very well, but I definitely don't have to tell you of all people that fact. LOL
    Kind Regards, Steve.

can any Jimney owner s tell me, without a garage do they ever leak from heavy rain? I live in the UK it rains a lot here. To me I have'nt rushed out to buy one even though this a favourite of mine. Thats because, to me UK isn't car country. its way so busy here, too many cars, too busy and compact , man made maze, no quite open roads between cities and the insurance racket here in the UK is a pain in the arse! so I use my feet walk, the bus , run and cycle . Maybe one day I will have the guts to do it. I read somewhere the saying: IS IT NECESSARY IS IT ESSENTIAL IS IT TRUE if not don't worry about it, keep life simple and happy Maybe one day.........

My second car ever and first 4wd was a Suzuki Sierra. Loved it. It lasted forever and it got me out into nature again. I’m in Australia and lived in Sydney at the time. Between school and work I went from camping every other weekend or at the beach to roaming city streets and nightclubs. I have fond memories of it. I have a Suzuki Grand Vitara 4wd (2017 model) now. I couldn’t wait the 18months for the jimny to be built and arrive as my old car was considered a repairable right off. I live in the country nowadays and go camping, 4wding and to the beach every weekend. It’s a great way for me to relax and destress, meet new people and leave my worries, anxiety, depression behind.

I am not a real off-road enthusiast, I live in Milan and have never considered it worthwhile to own such a vehicle. But when I tried my sister's Jimny in Ibiza, I fell in love with it. Easy to drive off-road for a beginner like me, it is a very practical vehicle, essential but capable of doing much more than what you would expect. You hit the nail. Jimny is a perfect car for many couples, even in the city, given its size. It is only sa shame that the approval does not allow 2 rear seats. I now have a Smart car, perfect in the city for someone who doesn't want kids, but I think my next car will be the Jimny, because it conveys the desire to get off the roads and have fun. Great video!

I happily watched a totally bogged and fully farkled Nissan Safari slowly pulled out of the door handle deep bog by a whiskery fella who happened to pass by in his battered Suzuki. I rented a previous gen Jimny on Iceland a couple of years ago. It was bloody fantastic! Well yes, it was loud when driving off road, the steering vague, and the old 1.3 was under powered, but man was it a fun drive. In about 10 days me and a friend drove around the whole country and taking it to several F-roads. It was always clear to me that its limits was at a far higher point than my own. Also the feeling of accomplishment when getting to a point at the F-road where all the other vehicles was Land Cruisers and HiLuxes on 38" + tires was fantastic.
Oh how I love the Jimny. If only i could afford having two cars, I would love to own one.

    Andrew,
The Gen3 Jimny Automatic had an adaptive gearbox. Meaning, if the computer wouldn’t change gears as expected a hard reset would handle the problem.
    Gen3; 1st reset method:
Fully disconnect the battery for >35 minutes.
    Gen3; 2nd reset method:
Disconnect the plus & minus battery connectors from the battery. Connect the plus & minus connectors to each other for more than 10 seconds.
    Gen3; 3rd reset method:
Find the little white connector at the steering column and shortcut it with a paper clip for a few seconds.
All three methods will reset the adaptive system/
computer and allow it to relearn your personal driving style.
    - It is likely that the Gen4 Automatic has the same, or similar, system. Meaning a reset of the computer will handle the issue you had.
    Best regards
    ..Boris

This review evoked fond memories of the original SJ-413! - We bought it (used) as my ex's first car, and though it was no RangeRover, it was a great little 4WD to drive around town, I'd say that wintertime showed it's _real_ force: you started it up, and by the time it was swept free of snow. the heater was running nice & warm inside the cabin (not forgetting the added enjoyment of readily towing free Mercedes and whatnot stuck in the snowdrifts!).- Finding this video of the 2019 Jimny (many car makes & models) later, makes me realize I'd gladly go for one! - Thanks for posting this, greetings from Norway!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 💓

I have seen many versions of the Suzuki in the past being used in game reserves in India, Police forces using them, utility companies etc etc.
It has always been a proper off road vehicle, just smaller than the usual 70's or Defenders.
Solid Axles, low range, nothing to fancy that will go wrong. Love the design, really nice looking vehicle.
Suzuki seems to be understanding that there is a place for a good old fashion 4x4 in the modern world.
I wonder if Land Rover are going to produce a modern Defender with similar values?

9:15 heh, it's funny you say that, I understand your wisdom, however my own experience is to the contrary, in fact there is a joke at an offroad site I visit that there is a track called "Jimny hill". Because the only lightly modified vehicles able to make it up it are Jimnys and dirt bikes/ATVs.
I think it's the combination of a very steep incline & a very lumpy surface, the Jimny just bounces and scrabbles up, the Discos and Defenders seem to bog and lose momentum.
And yes, whilst your rear passenger space is limited, the load space is very square & useable.

After owning the last shape Jimmy I would go with the auto. Due to the smaller tyres and short wheelbase, technical obstacles need to be taken slower, and the manual low range isn't quite low enough. Lots of stalling, clutch riding and clutch dumps.

@@brysonnorman7772 i live in a city with a lot of hills and my sister had a car with an auto and i drove it a few times. It was awful to drive, that thing would always choose the wrong gear. It would rev like crazy at 5krpm at a steeper climb when it would perfectly handle with one higher gear. A manual is much better for that because you are in total control, especially with a NA lower power engine like the Jimny.

Got the manual in June 19 and have been happy ever since. As I'm getting older now, getting beyond where the road deteriorates down to tracks has become an issue when carrying weight. The Jimny has solved that problem for me and is keeping me out there. The meat tray was an option I went for so the veni doesn't leak over the back seats. It has the same problem as the plastic seat backs but was easily solved with the use of an old sleeping mat. On a recent trip I managed an eight pointer (Red) and a decent sized spiker in the back( Had to cut up) along side pack and rifle and still had enough room to squeeze in the odd bit off extra equipment. I have never put the back seats up or sat in them but the front seats do the job. Over all for a single old fart who loves getting out there this is , once you adapt your thinking, ideal. I love it!

Wish Suzuki would make a LWB version of the new Jimney.
I think that this Jimney will have a big following like the old SJ series, in 10 to 15 years this will be the go to model for pepole who modify 4x4`s and build rock crawlers.
The companies who produce after market products for 4x4`s have a bright future with this one.

Having had a 4wd TH-cam channel myself in the past I know how incredibly hard it is to shoot these videos. It takes planning, hours of footage and then even more when it comes to editing. Despite its tiny fuel tank (will fit a jerrycan on its rear ladder), its slippery plastic cargo surface (will fit a carpet) , its low power (get a manual & drive it!), its very limited pay load (forces me to bring nothing but the minimalistic essentials & put the light stuff on the roof rack), low top speed (slow down & enjoy the scenery), I bought one - and I ❤️ it without any regret.
    - Because it fits my personality. It’s a counter statement to all the large 4x4 trucks (the 4x4 shopping-carts I see every day).
The Jimny fits what I intend to use it for, overlanding in Central America sleeping in hotels, ie not camping (been there, done that, for decades in the SE Air Force.) Soon I will order a rear diff locker - for safety concerns only.
The Jimny is a remarkable little/micro off-roader and it has, to this date, outperformed all my expectations driving trough mud as well as up volcanoes.
    - Of all the cars I have owned, despite its limitations, the Jimny is my all time favorite.

Hi, I've got the 1998 version of this.. called sj80. Soft top version... for maximum connection with the mother nature. It is equipped with coils suspension and has tbi...and 5spd manual ofcourse..
The coily version made only for three years and delivered to to Asia and Australia Markets only... so very little aftermarket parts.
I've modded Mine and built it as a lightweight weekend warrior.
It had 1.6 efi engine. 5spd manual with longer 5th ratio. Transfer case with 17% reduction for the high and around 160% for the low.
Rear locker. Ķoni shocks jimny bits 3" springs. Upgraded cooling system. Watch dog ecm with aux fan. In-cab vdo voltmeter. Wireless solar charged tyre pressure monitor. Aux battery management monitor. 9" tablet for navigation + main cb and handheld cb. Seat covers with many pockets and lots of storage solutions. Sporty sparco wheels and apio pedals with extra grip. Center console. Headup storage Pouch.
30lt lg drawer fridge. 40amp lithium power bank. 70amp agm main battery. 130amp alternator. Fully equipped gourmet kitchen with dual kovea stove. 27l in cab heated water container + 20l water/fuel jerrican. Full-size spare. Rear and front bumper fully equipped.. 2 tables. Spare fluids reverse and camp light. Aux hella light on the front. Warn axon55s winch. Recaro heated seats. On board aircraft compressor with 11l alu tank. And many many more.. no roof tent.. no roof rack at all... low center of gravity and low weight for sporty and weekend warriar feels was the most important mission. ... wet weight for 3-4 days adventure 1.3ton.
Be glad to share more... if you like. Very special machine with a lot of your influence....must admit.

I have a fourth-generation Jimny. Pakistan and I drive it in the mountains of Kashmir. It manages a steep climb quite well, climbing is not the problem, the weight of the engine keeps the nose down. It is the coming down bit, which requires nerves. It has a tendency to lift its rear wheels. Hairpin bends, three or four attempts going back and forth while a Land cruiser may require fifteen attempts. Landslides, due to the petrol engine it can negotiate fresh landslides while a diesel engine starts the slide again. Lost a lot of Landcruisers in the 2005 Kashmir earthquake. There is a difference between the harmonics of a diesel and petrol engine.

Dear Andrew, The best of the best review ( 100% Honest ) of the new Jimny anywhere. Why is that then, you may ask, well you got this knowing it is small, knowing it has small engine, knowing it has less space inside, yet you DID NOT complain. You reviwed it as it is. There were people, who have spent months reseaching and the finally buying it, thenn go on complaing about space, lac of more power. How stupid can those people be. It is NOT advertised as the all conquering, unstoppable new Defender kind of vehicle ( different story that, your prediction well before the launch of the new Defender, says a lot about your knowledge). After watching many videos from other reviwers, I could not make mey mind, but after this ( your review), I ordered the very last of the few left in UK. Thank you so much.
