I must say I have been researching Jimnys for about 2 years and finally received mine a few weeks ago after a 7 month wait. Everything you have said in this video is spot on. The suspension upgrade (Ironman GVM upgrade in my case) changes the ride dramatically for the better if you are also using it for a daily drive. I gave up on the idea of storage systems after getting a 45L firdge and now planning to get a LiFe battery and solar panels (forget about dual battery and you can also use it in another car), plus the Long Ranger fuel tank - 40L doesn't last too long. I've also given up on the bull bar idea due to weight and you touched on this too. Top job.
Having a small 6x4 trailer is such a great addition. They are designed for payload so you can put in all your tenting, fuel, water and not affect the handling at all. If you can, get brakes for the trailer, especially if it's over 500kg combined. Without brakes the Jimny can quickly get brake fade downhill. I have the auto and the Jimny tows really well. I've even towed tandem trailers with it. So long as they're loaded correctly and have brakes, the Jimny hauls like any other small car.

I received my Jimny (Go Jungle Green team!) last week and love it. I've watched video after video about which accessories to get for my use case and this has been the most helpful so far. I'll be sticking with the standard wheels, upgrading the suspension and tyres. My only regret is that I got the dealer fitted roof rack which I think I will sell and upgrade. Thanks from down under.
Hi Raymond, you may have had this question before and apologies if I missed it. Overhead console & two-way radios - what do you recommend? Thanks for the channel and eagerly awaiting more on the new 5-door!!
No problem at all , Toug Dog or Opposite Lock does have a nice roof console availible for the Jimny , that has space for a radio and handset , but that does come at a cost , and you will need an anual license for the radio. The other option is Vlakvark radios no license required but only for short distances.

I understand getting a front bar in Australia , just make the choice on the lightest one pissible , because they really do affect handeling , performamce and consumption alot. Good choice on the Tough Dog , really happy with my 40mm👍
Great video, we went for the steel bumpers because of the safety it provides when driving around in the eastern cape. Lots of feral animals on the road.

Another fantastic video. I have moderate experience with off roading in the USA, Your vids are perfect for folks fresh to the fun. There's a lot to consider when outfitting your ride. I've enjoyed everything I've owned, from a '46 Willys CJ2a to a 2014 Toyota 4Runner (with my favorite being an oddball, a 1973 Pinzgauer 712M). Flying to our final destination in the Philippines today, and as mentioned in another of your vids, first purchase is a new Jimny. I want to add to a pont you made here about spotlights. A very very useful add-on is adjustable or even removable spotlights. NiLight (Amazon) has great magnetic mounts for LEDs that let you move and point them where you need them. Not sure about availability for you. Also, I think your channel will continue to grow, and you will find yourself becoming more of the "go to" for off roading, and not just in a Jimny. As a wrap up in every video, please remind folks of 4 very important rules for any adventure...preparation, notification, preparation and notification. Keep em coming.
Hi , the 225 is no much bigger than the 215 , so you should be ok with them on stock suspension. The stock suspension is a bit spongy in my experience so upgrading just the shocks will improve the ride alot.
Nice overview, You are 100% these packing systems are adding 20-30kg , the problem with most these accessories they not engineered to be light and strong, they using steel and plywood and are bulky .Unfortunately lots of these designs are hand me downs where weight and space were not important.Roof top tents are over 330mm in height and weigh between 50 and 80kg.There is no reason they cannot be engineered to be 150mm and weight of 25kg.
Great views, thanks for sharing. You didn’t mention diff lockers. - I know the AllGrip works well. It works better than an open diff but I think a diff locker is better. That’s why I will order a Kaiser diff locker for my rear axle. I want the benefits of a locked rear axle but the AllGrip still active in the front axle. I think it will be a great compromise.
Jip totally forgot about the lockers , I trust the ARB lockers they are really reliable downside is the cost of the locker and the compressor. Will have a look at the Kaiser , defenitly go for the rear locker that just provides more control vs the All Grip system.
I like the soft suspension. It’s good on the bumpy streets I drive. I don’t want a lift kit. This is why I might only change the shock absorbers in the future, hoping to get the best compromise of the two.
I am also considering shocks only, not interested in a lift. My Jimny purpose is mainly for handling the horrible roads here and limited exploring. Hopefully someone will elaborate with suggestions.
Hi Boris , swopping out the shocks could help a bit I know Bilstein have replacement shocks that should work. And if you want to spend a bit more look at Fox shocks.
I truly appreciate your channel. Thank you for keeping us so informed. I changed my order to a manual after watching your video. My main use would be for daily commute to work which is less than a week in a month and some off road on weekends. I do however live on a small holding with gravel roads that gets very muddy during the rainy season and my fiesta can never get me back home hence my reason for the upgrade. Would you still recommend the suspension and caps in this instance? I would assume a tow bar would be necessary too? Any specific brands that you recommend. Also what's the best method for concealing a laptop in a jimny?
Hi Denisha , thank you for the support. I think you made the right choice , the suspension and some rocksliders would be a good start , Tough Dog 40mm is the best in my opinion , the rocksliders prevent the plastic wheel arches from getting gravel rash , the radial cups only when you are planning to do off road trails. Rock sliders you can have a look at Wild Dog or Des Sol.
Hello there amigo!! Very interesting video. Like your comments a lot and I concur with them. Just wondering if you have the link for the trailers you mentioned they are kind of light to be pulled with the Jimny… I’d like to know the weight and specifications in order to make a decision. BTW, I’m just waiting for the dealership to let me know when I will be able to buy the jimny! And, I’ll stick to your ideas with the mods. I like them. Cheers!
Really informative video ! Great channel for anyone who wants to know some "real life experience" information. I have a question regarding tyres- You mention the as far as I know you got 215/75s on your Jimny. Have you considered 215/80s ? I know they are harder to get, but they will increase the ground clearance slightly. Thanks 🙂
Hi , yes I have the 215/75 , the 215/80 does give you a little bit more clearance , but also has an effect on your performance and consumption. With a bit of driver skill the 215/75 will keep up offroad with the 80 profile , and then get quicker home and using less fuel. Hope that answers your question.
So your saying get a 2" lift kit (shocks springs) upgrade the tires but keep the same Rims/wheels that came with the car? Correct thanks. Nice info video by the way
With Regards to the throttle controller. I've installed a power plus controller on my automatic. Which setting is best for someone like myself whos driving involves long distance travel with over taking, long gravel roads and very limited urban usage? I've got it set on auto mode, how long does it take to adapt to your driving style? Love your videos by the way 🙂.
Hi thank you for the support , I drive my manual in eco mode 90% of the time , I switch to sport mode for thick sand and dunes. On the Auto I would suggest sport mode but adjust the sensitivity to suit your driving.
What are your thoughts on the roof racks? I see you are rocking one. With the dynamic load capacity of the roof being 30kg (Allegedly, I even saw that number come up in the genuine Suzuki accessories catalog), I am quite worried about getting a full roof rack in there as it basically eats the whole capacity by its self. Thinking on getting load bars as it is basically 1/4th the weight, but obviously they are not as practical as a rack. What has been your experience?
Bull/nudge bars are for protecting the radiator, and you’re absolutely correct. It looks cool but serves no purpose if you don’t have kangaroos, deer, or moose, jumping up in front of your car every now and then. (Exception … the bull bar might serve as a deterrent to jerks sharing the same streets as you)
@@justjimny Those things will not come cheap. We have guys in Ukraine, who are making portals for off-road vehicles. And their price for their product is not much cheaper (about 6K euros). I think that the production of such equipment involves a high level of engineering and production, to make portals reliable enough.
@@serega2000ss Yes and the type of steel they use has also become very expensive , will have to start saving money so I can fit some to Jimny in a few years time🤣
The aftermarket air intakes are made to improve performanfe , thus when doing very dusty gravel roads and water crossings I will not reccomend them. Rather fit a snorkel.
Dankie man. Ek sit in Aus en dnk ek gaan vir my a jimny koop. Ek weet obsoluut niks van 4 by 4 nie maar sien uit om te leer. Goeie raaf oor die nudge bar en so aan. lekker dag vir julle =D
@@justjimny Dankie vir jou terugvoer. Ek besluit nou of ek moet gaan vir die manual of Automaties.
Great video! thanks a lot for sharing your experience. Re the snorkel, is there a brand you suggest and also do you recommend the ram or vortex (cyclone) design. Re the tires, I read that the recommended alternative is to go with 215/60R17 and optional alternative is 215//75R15. Which do you recommend for offroad? I am leaning towards the 15” wheel because that way I do not have to buy new wheels. Another consideration is to keep the factory tires for day to day city driving and swap them for the offroad tyres when needed. However, this could be a waste of time changing all the time. Best regards and looking forward to more videos for the jimny.
Hi Victor , there has been alot discussions on the snorkels ect , I suggest having a look at snorkel type that you like , there is really not a massive difference between the brands and designs. On the tyres I will stick with the 215/75R15 thats a great size that has a decent side wall . Swopping tyres gets really a schlep get a decent AT tyre that can handle on and off road.
As you mentioned it is a must to change the original suspension, but how many millimeters suspension should I go for or add on if I also use Jimny as my daily commute. Many thanks.
The 40mm is enough for onraod and off road use. Even with the 40mm extra height the Jimny feels much more stable on the road , and it even handles corners better. I cummute 120km per day on highways and it handles 10 times better than the stock suspension.
Such a great video. I'm waiting on my Jimny to come in later this year in Australia. I was looking at snorkels and the many other accessories for a 4x4. But I'm lost where I should start with 😅 Any advice?
Thank you for the support. I would start with tyres and suspension , they are the accesories that add the most capability to your Jimny , next rocksliders and radial cups and a wheel cover to protect those new tyres from the sun. Then some seat covers to protect your seats and rubber mats for all the mud and sand. The other stuff are nice to have , but dont add as much benefits as the ones mentioned.
I have to agree with everything said. No point whatsoever in putting expensive, heavy extras on your car just to change its looks. Buy something that is of practical use, like the suspension.
How do you feel about bullbar/winch combo? I thought about also getting a rear diff locker. But after taking my one week old Jimny off road in muddy trails I really felt like it was going to be REALLY HARD to get stuck. The only upgrade was the Ironman gvm upgrade which made the world of difference off road I would essentially be driving off muddy trails 3 days a week I do wonder if the weight trade off is worth it? (Alsowoeied about kangaroos in aus)😅
Dont see the need for steel bumpers on the Jimny , the weight right at the front affects performance and handeling. In Aus its a good addon for the kangaroos though , just have a look at the weight , in ZA we have the De Sol one that only weighs 22kg. Winch I have never used on a jimny , most of the times you can push them out of trouble , but if you do solo trips in mud , have the correct recovery gear , I would opt for maxtrax before a winch.
The main reason why I started my channel🤣 , Roam Overlanding rolled his jimny while driving the Hennops 4x4 Trail with a massive Eezi-awn roof top tent on , posted a video about the incident and aftermath but no footage of the event itself unfortunately.
Awesome video, thanks for sharing! I've just ordered my Jimny, I'll be driving it to work during weekdays and hangout on weekend. Do you have any suggestion on how I should begin with the modification? Shall I start with underbody protection and then roof rack and awning? It's a new area for me, totally lost, any advice would be appreciated! Thanks mate.
Get your rocksliders and radial cups sorted first , after that 215/75R15 tyres , 40mm suspension. Then you can start looking at a roofrack and compatible awning.
Hi thanks for the support , the trailer is manufactured in South Africa , I don't think its available in Aus yet . Its called the Moremi 4x4 trailer link to the website in description. Have a look at Little Rig's channel he has a cool trailer that will work great.
Hi. I am thinking off buying a new Jimny and wanted to fit a Tough Dog suspension, but sales person said I will lose my waranty if I do that. Is there any aftermarket suspensions that is Suzuki approved that will not remove my waranty
Hi , what usualyy happens is , the suspension company provides you with a warranty on the suspension , and Suzuki does not cover the suspension component warranty any more.
Hi Raymond. How important would you say is the transfer case guard. I drive gravel roads every day. Do a bit of 4x4 driving a couple of times a year, but nothing too serious. Would you say I should put on a guard. Don't want to put on the added wait if not necessary. Thanks.
You really need to go extreme to justify the t-case plate , I dont have one , and I have done some hairy trails in ZA , still no problems , but accidents do happen. So keep it off till you want to take on some serious 4x4 trails.
I went for 3 heavy duty roof rails from Rhino total weight 6kg vs 30kg roof rack (front runner ) a far better solution especially when adding a 40kg roof tent.I disagree do it with rails not a additional unnecessary 30kg front runner rack. I did 1000km through mountains on highways offroad it was unnoticeable only fuel consumption increased by 1liter/100km . Problem is some of these tents are not lightweight weigh 70 kg plus 30 for rack thats 100kg on roof vs my solution 46kg . Do it wisely.
Hi Frank the Metalian Genie looks light weight but it is actually quite heavy , and you need to make quite a lot of changes to make it comparable to the Moremi 4x4 trailer , like changing the hubs so you can have the same PCD as your Jimny (Extra Spare wheels) , another would be that the Moremi trailer has the exact same wheelbase as the Jimny much better handling and more maneuverable . And I believe that the Genie will work out more expensive than the Moremi.
hello Raymond. I do need tour hello. I have installed a roof galery ARB but I can feel its weight Chine driving. I still have not changed my suspensions . I noticed you have reduced the size of Your Roof rack by Half . Did you change it or cut it ?
@@justjimny Hi Raymond . So you cut it ? Mine is an ARB and I is so heavy that I can feel it when driving with my stock stock absorbers. I am thinking of reducing its size by cutting half of it .
I believe it should be availible since you get OME in Europe. The extra 40mm lift you gain , does not make your body sway more , the Jimny handles corners much , much better that the stock suspension , and traceling at highway speeds , its very stable and well behaved. Look at Opposite Locks internation webpage and ask them if they have a disti close to you.
I actually want the lift , and it makes a great diffrence in approach , depature and break over angles while off road. Everybody thinks the lift makes the jimny more top heavy and unstable , but with better coils and shocks I will outcorner any stock jimny , its also much more stable at high speeds than with the stock suspension as well.
@@jonathanzarate4248 The 80 profile does cost you performance and consumption , with very little gain in off road capabillity , thats why I would stick to 215/75R15.
Does a suspension upgrade help the Jimny significantly on corrugated roads? It’s terrible (and dangerous) in standard form would like your view on that. Cheers
Hi Thanks for the excellent content, need assistance. How do I set up my android phone so that I can se my Google maps on my jimny screen. I'm using a cable auto android but no luck Regards Atties
Using the cable that came with the phone , new Huawei phones dont have google play thus no Andriod auto included. Also check that your phone is not on power saving mode since this does influence connectivity. Hope you get it going👍
215 works perfect with the stock suspension and did not affect performance at all . Main reason to upgrade the suspension is to get better road holding and handling on road and off road.
Awesome video! Thanks so much. I’ve just ordered my Jimny and taking delivery on Friday. I chose to put mud-flaps on which I now regret… also wanted to ask, would a tow bar affect my ride height/obstacles I can tackle negatively. Looking at the original one from Jimny.
Hi John congrats on the pet in the family , dont stress too much about the mudflaps you can just screw them off before you do a trail. The towbars available currently do effect the departure angle a bit and the trailer plug does take a lot of hits while on a trail , wish they would recess that plug. I am planning to have one custom built that would fit behind the number plate , but that will also require a bit of exhaust work to make it fit.
@@justjimny hey - thanks. I do go pretty often. Mainly just trails, don't do overlanding yet. But thanks - will do! I did go to John Rock this weekend and had no issues 🤷♀️ did the blue trail (grade 4 and 5) and was okay. But will keep an eye out for the lowered diff clearance

Awesome thanks Michael , great collection of 4x4's.
Hey Ray,
Good video. Could you comment on how good are 225/70/r15 tyres on the jimny, with stock suspension.
Hi , the 225 is no much bigger than the 215 , so you should be ok with them on stock suspension. The stock suspension is a bit spongy in my experience so upgrading just the shocks will improve the ride alot.
Great video, so excited to get mine ☺️
Glad we could help out👍
Very valuable pieces of advice. Thank you.
Great advice, I have a jimny with 265 and yea it burns the fuel
Thank you for the feedback and support👌
Nice overview, You are 100% these packing systems are adding 20-30kg , the problem with most these accessories they not engineered to be light and strong, they using steel and plywood and are bulky .Unfortunately lots of these designs are hand me downs where weight and space were not important.Roof top tents are over 330mm in height and weigh between 50 and 80kg.There is no reason they cannot be engineered to be 150mm and weight of 25kg.
Thanks for sharing
Excellent video. Great advice. Thank you. .
Glad it was helpful!
@@michaelnewton2747 Hi Micheal have a look at Bilstein and for a bit more FOX can also be a good option since they are serviceable.

Hi Raymond .
Great video very informative .
I am about receiving my brand new Jimny ( jungle green as yours ) and I really appreciate your advices .
Glad to help
When are we getting videos of the 5 door Jimny?
Still a bit busy with my day job , but as soon as I have a gap I will post my review.
Cheers!
Hi thanks for the support , here are the details of the Moremi trailers.customcanopies4all.co.za/moremi-lite-custom-trailer/

I think Grabbers a better option in particular that on tar in wet the BF is dangerous.
You do get use to them in the wet , but mine are due for replacement , looking at the Maxxis worm drive.
@@justjimny Yes you are right, infact performance is my only concern if I go to the 80 profile.
Thank you for you help 🙂
Thank you for an excellent video.
Thank you for the support👍
Really great advice. Thanks for the practical tips.
Thank you Frank , always happy if we can help out fellow Jimny drivers
So your saying get a 2" lift kit (shocks springs) upgrade the tires but keep the same Rims/wheels that came with the car? Correct thanks. Nice info video by the way
That is correct
In later videos you see I went with a half ack.
Bull/nudge bars are for protecting the radiator, and you’re absolutely correct. It looks cool but serves no purpose if you don’t have kangaroos, deer, or moose, jumping up in front of your car every now and then. (Exception … the bull bar might serve as a deterrent to jerks sharing the same streets as you)
100% agree Boris
Thanks for the insights.
Thank you for the support👍
Another great video my man!

Tibus portals looks insane on Jimny

Yes would love a set of those , but the price is a bit steep for us poor South Africans :)
@@justjimny Those things will not come cheap.
We have guys in Ukraine, who are making portals for off-road vehicles. And their price for their product is not much cheaper (about 6K euros).
I think that the production of such equipment involves a high level of engineering and production, to make portals reliable enough.
@@serega2000ss Yes and the type of steel they use has also become very expensive , will have to start saving money so I can fit some to Jimny in a few years time🤣
Awesome channel! What is your opinion on the Forge Motorsport air intake for the Jimny? Pros & cons.
The aftermarket air intakes are made to improve performanfe , thus when doing very dusty gravel roads and water crossings I will not reccomend them. Rather fit a snorkel.
@@justjimny thanks 👍🏻
Dankie man. Ek sit in Aus en dnk ek gaan vir my a jimny koop.
@@justjimny Thanks for the advice :) Really appreciate it
I have to agree with everything said. No point whatsoever in putting expensive, heavy extras on your car just to change its looks. Buy something that is of practical use, like the suspension.
Great , I think thats the way to go.👍
Good stuff mate
Thanks for the visit
How do you feel about bullbar/winch combo?
I thought about also getting a rear diff locker. But after taking my one week old Jimny off road in muddy trails I really felt like it was going to be REALLY HARD to get stuck. The only upgrade was the Ironman gvm upgrade which made the world of difference off road
I would essentially be driving off muddy trails 3 days a week I do wonder if the weight trade off is worth it? (Alsowoeied about kangaroos in aus)😅
Dont see the need for steel bumpers on the Jimny , the weight right at the front affects performance and handeling. In Aus its a good addon for the kangaroos though , just have a look at the weight , in ZA we have the De Sol one that only weighs 22kg. Winch I have never used on a jimny , most of the times you can push them out of trouble , but if you do solo trips in mud , have the correct recovery gear , I would opt for maxtrax before a winch.
Well done Rari
Thanks 👍
In the video you mention a Jimny with a roof top tent flipping over. I’ve looked for it but can’t find it on TH-cam.

Hi there! What’s the name of the trailer you mentioned? I wonder if you can get it in Australia?
Hi there.
Great video !
I would like the name of that trailer to.

@@justjimny Perfect thank you. And thank you for all the videos. Rock sliders and radial cup protectors it is then.
@@ulrichbohmer9279 Glad we could help you out👍
I went for 3 heavy duty roof rails from Rhino total weight 6kg vs 30kg roof rack (front runner ) a far better solution especially when adding a 40kg roof tent.I disagree do it with rails not a additional unnecessary 30kg front runner rack.
How do you feel about the Metalion Genie trailer?
Same question here 🤚
Hi Frank the Metalian Genie looks light weight but it is actually quite heavy , and you need to make quite a lot of changes to make it comparable to the Moremi 4x4 trailer , like changing the hubs so you can have the same PCD as your Jimny (Extra Spare wheels) , another would be that the Moremi trailer has the exact same wheelbase as the Jimny much better handling and more maneuverable .
Hi Jean-Luc , yes I changed my roofrack , since its Aluminium its easy to cut it to the size you require.
@@justjimny Hi Raymond .
So you cut it ?
Mine is an ARB and I is so heavy that I can feel it when driving with my stock stock absorbers.
I am thinking of reducing its size by cutting half of it .
@@jean-lucbernois2211 Yes I cut it.
Hi, are tough dog suspensions available in Europe? My worry is that they will make my Jimny more higher.
Which rock sliders would you recommend? Gobi X, des sol or Wild dog? And why?
Des Sol , best design👍
Hi, have you considered upgrading the suspension without the lifting?
I actually want the lift , and it makes a great diffrence in approach , depature and break over angles while off road. Everybody thinks the lift makes the jimny more top heavy and unstable , but with better coils and shocks I will outcorner any stock jimny , its also much more stable at high speeds than with the stock suspension as well.
@@justjimny Thank you for the quick response. What about your thoughts on choosing between a 215/75/15 or a 215/80/15 tires?
@@jonathanzarate4248 The 80 profile does cost you performance and consumption , with very little gain in off road capabillity , thats why I would stick to 215/75R15.
@@justjimny Thank you very much for your straightforward feedback and insight.
Does a suspension upgrade help the Jimny significantly on corrugated roads? It’s terrible (and dangerous) in standard form would like your view on that. Cheers
Tyre pressures are very important when taking on bad gravel roads 0.8 Bar , the Tough Dog suspension makes the handeling much much better.

Hi great vid. Just for clarification. Does 215/75/R15 tire size works on stock/ standard suspension? What could be the impact for all rounder type?
215 works perfect with the stock suspension and did not affect performance at all . Main reason to upgrade the suspension is to get better road holding and handling on road and off road.
If I ever have a jimny, I need a roof rack and a toe bar, that's it.
