    Chances are, you’re not buying the 2019 Suzuki Jimny as a family car, which slightly softens the blow of it having a poor safety rating. If you’re buying it for fun and excitement, however, along with a good dose of solid off-road capability, then I reckon you’re barking up the right tree.
    Throw some decent rubber onto it, and you’ll have something capable of taking on some tough tracks, as well as plastering a big, ridiculous smile across your face. It’s a modern classic in my books, and I would love to own one.

    ....remember this does this with stock tires,...that's amazing. As a product Relaunch,...hats-off to Suzuki,...they identified the needs of the target market so well,...that they cannot supply enough of these now...no marketing budget is required...now that's amazing..

      I cannot find a review of the Jimny with proper off-road tires... Too many times vehicles are compared where tires should be the same for all. I mean sport cars and off-road vehicles comparisons in particular

    I’m in love with mine, had it for 2 months here in Melbourne, Off-road tyres turn this thing into a destroyer, 7000km deep and she hasn’t missed a beat or struggled off-road, Mind you I’m keeping off-roading simple until I can get a winch, The Jimny has smashed through everything I’ve thrown at it, even an irresponsible water crossing that was well above it’s rated wading depth.

      It's good to hear from somone who owns one . I have ordered one for the missus and have to wait another 5 weeks yet ! I am so happy that she fell in love with it . I drive a defender 110 which I love but I have had pretty much every 4x4 suzuki has ever built at some point . What size tyres have you gone for just out of interest?

      And you only change the tyres to MT?

    Finally a review from the Australian motoring media that doesn't moan on about the Jimny's safety rating, or how it's uncomfortable, or how it's bad on the road. I can't applaud the journalist enough for showing the vehicle being used as it's meant to and understanding it's intended purpose.

    It looks like the new Jimny is destined to go down in motoring history as a 4x4 with flaws that just does not get in the way of everyone wanting to own one. Personally, I salute Suzuki for taking a punt and staying true to its roots with the new Jimny. Demand for the Jimny around the world shows they are on a winner.

    • @rosscayley8773

      Suzuki have really delivered the goods with this one - basically its a slightly smaller LR defender 90 with all the fruit, for less money, with better ergonomics, and just as LR have abandoned their much praised coiled live-axle platform. Suzuki literally have no competition for this vehicle, any more, other that the Jeep Wrangler. Given that choice, the Jimny wins hands down.

    It's also quite an attractive car. Other than the landcruisers, which stay true with their form, a lot of the new 4wds are ugly has hell. 2018 patrols, new jeeps, even the Navara. The Jimmy's got that old school boxy look of the 90s but still very modern and clean. Plus it's rock stock and performs amazing off road. Add a bullbar, winch and a set of lockers and this is the perfect off-road and daily in one

    Suzuki have been building these for 45 years.
    My first car in 1975 was an LJ50V. My father bought it for me on my 18th birthday and it was $3k. It had a 540cc oil injected 2 stroke engine (Suzuki was after all a mc coy to begin with). It had a top speed of 90 kph and that was down hill.
    However get it off road and it would take your breath away - the torque was phenomenal.

Not an air locker but still effective and it got the job done. (I had a 2 inch lift and all terrain tyres etc). This Suzuki looks great and seems to go great as well. As per another comment it would be great to have the option of a 4 door version with a larger engine.

    Yeah...but, if you deconstruct today’s safety ratings you’ll see that they are heavily biased towards items in the Safety Assist category which the Jimny does not have. Structure, braking (ABS & EBC), traction control, and airbags are more important than lane departure warning and fatigue management. I ride motorcycles up those exact same tracks and wouldn’t view a 3.5 star rating as inadequate.

      Not without trashing it....A Trailhawk isnt much more than a softroader. No clearance and poor angles. Basalt Spur Track is actually pretty tough, especially heading up - it's live-axle or big aftermarket lift terrain really.

      @Krmelj 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Many thanks, and I thought as much. I'm new to all of this - generally are there trail ratings like you get on mountain bike tracks so you know before attempting a track in an inadequate vehicle?

    • @rosscayley8773
      @rosscayley8773 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Krmelj no, not really. Tracks through NE Victoria are as you find them. Some are easy, some.....aren't. The really steep tracks, where low-range is mandatory, are obvious enough. But otherwise, where you draw the line is up to you. Generally, folks without a full-on 4x4 vehicle keep to the well-formed gravel roads and leave the alpine tracks for heavy-duty vehicles.

    • @stephenbartholomew2143
      @stephenbartholomew2143 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not sure but I did it in a 2016 Subaru Forester, lifted and with all-terrain tyres and the naturally aspirated engine. Low range is a good thing but not as critical as sometimes stated. My vehicle spent a few days in the Victorian High Country as part of a Subaru group trip and came away with no battle damage at all. It is a great track and the views are definitely worth the trip. This Jimny looks like it is going to be a winner for Suzuki.

    This car is very safe because it has metal frame! Frame makes car chassis many times stronger and resistant to deformations during the accident. It also has safety bags, so you shouldn't worry about safety despite that square forms and compact size may suggest different...

    Apart from the obvious ‘features’ that are unique to the Jimny - safety, highway comfort, etc, etc. The main thing I read this week was that it’s locking system was rated as ‘terrible’ here in the UK. Sounds like Fords of the 1970’s - which you could pretty much open with any kind of key or a small screwdriver!

    Screw the subpar safety, how about the subpar 4spd auto. How about an industry standard 6 spd suzuki make better use of that throbbing 75kw
    My 03 pathfinder has a 4spd auto.

  • @Evenstephenss

    With the demand on the the Jimny, there should be mention as to how Suzuki are taking advantage of customers and are not budging from full retail price for both manual and auto versions. Many customers are paying around the $30k mark, which goes against the Jimny/Sierra philosophy.

    • @dbanbury01
      @dbanbury01 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I also like the fact he goes on about the safety rating being only 3 stars but there's nothing else available really in that size or price range that can do what it can offroad.
      I mean prefect example is the new jeep wrangler, more than double the price but only scored 1 star in crash tests.

    • @jeeves6490
      @jeeves6490 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's not taking advantage, that's simply the reward for getting it right, it's what it's target market wants and they are prepared to pay full retail price.
      As for the Jimny/Sierra philosophy, that's nothing to do with Suzuki, Suzuki build and sell cars.
      What you do with them, or why you bought this particular one is entirely up to you.

      Suzuki cannot even produce enough for Australia. There is a 12 month waiting period to get one. It would be impossible for them to produce enough to satisfy the US market. It would probably use up all allocations for everywhere in the world.
