As someone studying criminal psychology. Childhood has such a huge impact on your mental. Growing up in abuse or a traumatic environment often leads people down two paths. Finding themselves being in a toxic situation again (victim) or becoming the person inflicting more abuse and trauma (perpetrator). Ofc there are people who lead normal lives and heal
The dude sent a letter to the mother of the child he killed and described exactly how he did it, holy shit. You can even read the letter on the internet if you want.
Most serial killers are actually very cowardly and will rely on stabbing people in the back to win, as well as a huge amount of luck. However then you have the zodiac killer who is actually terrifying in my opinion
i mean i think basically all killers end up killing with a heavy advantage so to say any of them are scarier than others for that exact reason is just sorta odd
Yea, all of them only win by sneaking the victim or targeting women and children. Most of them would run if it’s another grown man and he’s fighting back. Like wild animals, serial killers want easy prey and don’t want to risk injury and hospital-worthy pushback. Thinking of particular killers, I think only Richard Ramirez or Arthur Shawcross could win a fight against another man who’s aware of their nature. All the others are out of shape like Gacy or skinny little dweebs like Dahlmer, Bundy, and Ed Gein.
Maybe the most famous, but far from being the worst. Ed Kemper, The Night Stalker, The Hillside Stranglers, and The Golden State Killer (to name a few) were all WAY worse. Zodiac is only so famous because he wrote letters to the media, and he claimed to kill way more people than he probably actually did.
The actual reason for all rhe serial killers in the 70s is because at that point people were a lot more welcoming to strangers in general. After Watergate and Vietnam there was a lot of distrust for the government and authority which then lead to a lot of trust given to what were perceived as regular citizens. It wasn't until the 80s where Stranger Danger as we know it became widespread. It was just very easy to kill people in the 70s

I’m surprised that out of all the killers on this list you picked out Ed Gein as being one of the most evil. He was definitely twisted don’t get me wrong, but it’s not like he killed all those women and turned their body parts into his own sick diy projects, he graverobbed them. He actually only killed two or three people, I don’t recall exactly but not many. As for his childhood, it was abusive but he didn’t hate his mother. His mother was extremely obsessed with raising him a certain way, refused to let him talk to others his age (ESPECIALLY girls) and she completely ignored his brother’s existence. Ed was OBSESSED with his mother and loved her an unhealthy amount, and after she died he kind of broke and that’s when he started graverobbing. Before that he was generally considered weird but a nice guy, and he would often babysit for people because he had a childish demeanor
@@VinVonVoom Is that so? I thought he killed a shop lady and her son, but perhaps just the old lady. Either way I’ve never considered him a serial killer because it was in one day, not a repeated pattern of behavior.

I do sympathize with the childhood traumas of these very fucked up individuals because no child should have to go through what they went through as children. However, it is important to understand and acknowledge that childhood trauma helps to explain why these fucked individuals ended up going down the path of serial killing, however, childhood trauma does NOT give ANYONE the excuse or right to kill another human being. Yes, these serial killers had fucked up, traumatic childhoods, but that doesn't mean they get to use said trauma as an excuse as to why they did what they did. For Example, The Menendez brothers claim that they were being abused by their parents and that's why they killed their parents. We can't know for sure how truthful these claims are because the parents are dead. If the abuse claims are true I'm sorry it happened, however, that doesn't give them an excuse or right to MURDER their parents especially since they were from a wealthy family, which means someone would have listened to them and helped them out of the abusive situation. The Menendez brothers had other less lethal options to get out of the abusive situation if the abuse was indeed happening, such as calling the authorities repeatedly until a welfare check was thoroughly done or telling a teacher, talking to a school counselor, or any adult outside their home that they trusted. That said, the main motive in the case when it was first investigated was the large inheritance the Menendez brothers would have received in the event of their parents' deaths. Also when the Menedez brothers were caught they didn't seem to exhibit any signs of being in an abusive situation, nor did they express any rational emotional responses throughout the investigation. They didn't seem emotionally phased that they had killed their parents. From what I've read the abuse claims are fairly recent and it seems like a last-ditch effort for a sympathy vote from the jury. That said, abuse or no abuse, The Menendez brothers still killed their parents and should not be let off the hook because of abusive parents. The Menendez Brothers murdered their parents. They deserve to be in jail.
