      Thank you sir! Oh no doubt. As Kevin O'leary says, Grand Seiko offers quality that rivals Patek for a fraction of the cost. It truly is impressive what GS is able to offer. Amazing quality at a great price. I sure hope GS sticks with this business model since I am looking forward to being able to add more GS to my collection in the future - maybe if they introduce a blue face watch with their new 9SA5 movement which is absolutely beautiful.

      I agree! Super clean and beautiful. I believe it was released at the end of 2019 but for whatever reason GS did not really announce it or make a big deal of it. Weird because if I were them I would have been super proud of it and want everyone to know. However, I do think it’s rareness and scarcity adds a bit of coolness to the watch

    I’m thinking about getting this timepiece. The polishing is incredible but I’m worried about that getting scratched up severely . Thoughts ?

    • @TheTimelyFocus
      @TheTimelyFocus  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Nick! Great question. I was unaware of how much of the case was high polished when I bought this watch since the photos on GS website are not very good. That is one reason I wanted to make this video - to help people understand what it is really like. The flat high polished surfaces do certainly show scratches and fingerprints easily. However most of the time during regular wear these hairline scratches and fingerprints will be mostly unnoticeable. I have been wearing this watch a lot for over a year now and think it still looks great. That being said, I do think GS move in their evolution 9 series with a much higher brushed to polished ratio than this design was a good move. If I were making this purchase again, I would certainly consider the white birch as well. Closer to this price point there is also to Omega Aqua Terra in white as well. All three watches are great options. It also depends on how hard you are on your watches. I wear mine all the time but am quite conscious and take good care of them. Hope this helps!

    • @TheTimelyFocus
      @TheTimelyFocus  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Man that is a tough choice! I had the same struggle myself but ultimately went with the high beat due to its mechanical purity, clean design, plus increased magnetic resistance relative to spring drive. However, I think it would be hard to go wrong either way as they are both amazing options!

    • @nanocus
      @nanocus 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, you don´t have a 44GS case with spring drive and silver dial. You would have to settle for the champagne dial.
      I went down the same road and am now trying to decide between Spring drive and Quartz. The cleaner dial and the thinner profile sold the Quartz to me, but have to beat my own quartz resistance.

      @TheTimelyFocus  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh absolutely! I am wearing it right now in fact with a suit. I think this watch is most at home in the business casual to business formal. Can totally pull black tie as well especially on a nice leather or crocodile strap. White tie might be a bit of a stretch but only the most horologically minded would notice/possible question it. On the other end of the scale, I wear this watch with polos too and think it looks great. Very causal like T shirts and jeans I think is okay as well. Overall I find this to be a highly versatile watch and since I have owned it have worn it the most of all my watches.

  • @nanocus

    Beautiful but too thick. This is made very obvious by how much better the quartz version of this case sits on the wrist.

    • @TheTimelyFocus
      @TheTimelyFocus  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You have a point. This definitely is on the thicker end of watches. Most of the time it does not bother me at all. Like I said, I think the sides and edges look really cool. However, I will not disagree that I would probably prefer it to be a few millimeters thinner assuming that would not sacrifice durability or price. Luckily GS with their new high beat movement are able to make much thinner watches. I am looking forward to getting something like the White Birch in the future!

  • @andreanicolas9363
    @andreanicolas9363 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    The only " Grand Sin " Seiko has done here, is by not putting some lume, Sadly.
    Ps: It would've put this watch in direct comparison with the Rolex explorer in my opinion and that's one of the reasons I dislike about Seiko, is that it never puts the Customer's needs first, but always strives to make the almost perfect piece and in the same time is always leaving some important detail behind that all the Customers desire and want for more.
    I think that is deliberate and unjust from Seiko.
    C'mon guys, it wouldn't have hurt Seiko's to put a bit of lume for example!

    • @TheTimelyFocus
      @TheTimelyFocus  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Interesting thought. I disagree. This is definitely a more formally leaning watch and adding lume to the dial and hands would push the watch significantly in the everyday/casual direction.
      Check out the Rolex Oyster Perpetual or Datejust - those are much more similar to this Grand Seiko while the Explorer is much more of a casual everyday type of watch. Haha, it is called the explorer after all. I think it is a little bit disingenuous to compare a more formal watch to a more adventurous watch. I could just as easily take a Rolex Sea-Dweller, compare it to a JLC Master Control and complain about how unnecessary the Sea Dwellers 1220m of water resistance is, how big and thick the case is, and that there is no display case back. Conversely I could complain that not even swimming with the JLC would be a good idea while the Sea-Dweller can literally go to the bottom of the ocean. Why would I ever want a JLC Master Control for diving? It must be a terrible watch and JLC clearly does not give divers what we want or they would not have made such a dress watch. No, that is silly. Using things for jobs they are not designed for is not a fault of the designer, but the user. I hope this makes sense and helps.
      Making a perfect watch is fine by me! And while there may have been some validity to the statement of GS never taking into account what the customers wanted in the past, I would argue that they listened at least enough so as to make desirable pieces. If they did not they would not have sold any watches and would no longer be in business. Lately, it is quite obvious that GS is listening to its fans. Have you seen their new SLGH005? One of the biggest complaints about GS was the thickness. Well, this new watch and movement line was a direct answer to that complaint. But they did not stop at simply making it thinner. GS also made the movement significantly more beautiful, innovated for a longer power reserve, and incorporated some of the culture at GS in the shape of the balance bridges etc.
      I appreciate the feedback Andrea and am looking forward to hearing your response

    • @andreanicolas9363
      @andreanicolas9363 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheTimelyFocus @The Timely Focus , I appreciate your video nevertheless and I generally don't like having arguments senselessly but I prefer more sharing opinions based on actual facts!
      Anyways, I do agree with many things you said for instance that the rolex perpetual or datejust are much more similar to this GS high beat, but I'd like to specify that only for the fact that they don't have lume, they are considered only as a dress watch.
      But I can't agree on the fact that you stated Rolex explorer is more like " a casual everyday type of watch ", in my opinion your statement is not that accurate and correct, as per the real specs of the explorer are well clear, being known as an " elegant sports/ dress " watch, ..quoting being both dressy and sportive everyday watch!
      If you take a good look, the diameters of the rolex explorer is much more or less the same as this GS class of watches shown in your video, bit of a bigger, bolder and bulky but still in the dress watch category and not that of the divers or chronographs etc.
      If you for instance would change a bit the markers or dials or even both and add a bit of lume to the GS high beat models, you'll get the Rolex explorer or something in between and that doesn't mean it cannot be a dressy watch anymore.
      As for Seiko not sticking to the needs of the customers I didn't mean that in every case, of course it does but not as much as Rolex does in my opinion!
      You see in all the types of GS high beats models, in dress watch categories that you can find out, there are so many models but none of them with bit of a lume, not one exception which in my opinion is very unprofessional and that was actually my original complaint I was addressing!
      You have way to cheap watches with designs like orient tristar being part of the dress watch category that have lume and I'm pretty sure my complaint is undeniable and true in this aspect, go check the design of the this cheap orient tristar and then go back to GS see all the dress watches they offer, not one bit of a lume is not what fulfilling the customers needs in this case should be and I bet there isn't a guy who is really into dress watches who doesn't share the same thoughts in one way or another and doesn't feel the lack of something when he tries to search for a watch that fulfills all the necessities of a perfect automatic precise every day dressy watch, when stumbling upon all the GS high beat models.
      I hope my reply was clear enough and although I quite understand the difficulty of explaining certain opinions and topics on the you-tube comment section is undeniably easy to be misunderstood and quite common.
      My Best regards*

    • @TheTimelyFocus
      @TheTimelyFocus  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh I totally agree Andrea! Seneless arguments are of course senseless. I hope my reply did not come off in a bad way. Like you said, I too just enjoy having honest conversations about watches based in facts.
      I think I understand what you are saying about GS and their lack of lume across the board except for on their dive watches. It has never bothered me too much but I could totally see how that might be frustrating if you are a person who has become used to some good lume. I suppose the Rolex and Omega models just to name a few do offer more versatility because of that. I do not know how GS could incorporate lume into their watches without changing their design language significantly. There is probably a way though.
      Ah, yes, I think the market is good evidence for your point. Rolex clearly has given the consumers more of what they want than GS or the disparity in difficulty of acquiring these watches would not be so great. I do wonder how much of that is hype and marketing as opposed to being based in what the customers would actually want in a watch independent of the influence from hype and marketing.
      Great response Andrea! I think I misunderstood you a bit in your first comment so I really appreciate you taking the time to explain that all to me. You bring up some very good points!
      Phillip

    The dial is rather unremarkable. Grand Seiko is known for their unique dials. I really don't see anything here about this dial. If you're adding something to your collection and it were a grand seiko it should be definitely have a distinct dial.

    • @TheTimelyFocus
      @TheTimelyFocus  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I see your point. This is definitely one of the most understated GS dials out there. Maybe one reason why it has not garnered a lot of attention. However, I really like it. To me it has a beautiful appearance and I really appreciate its clean simplicity. Coupled with the many zaratsu polished edges on the case and on the markers in the dial, it has just the right amount of pop for an everyday watch. I suppose that just means my next GS will have to be something extremely distinct. I appreciate the feedback!

      I would say so. One thing to note is that after a couple months of wearing it, my GS began to run quite slowly and irregularly (loosing between 10 sec and 2 minutes per day). I sent it back to Japan under warranty and am told it is on its way back now. That did sour my experience with GS but hopefully all will be mended upon its return

    • @TheTimelyFocus
      @TheTimelyFocus  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha, not joking. It is comfortable, feels solid, and I do think it looks really good. Like I mentioned though, I would like to have a micro adjustment and would not mind a more dramatic taper. I have a Rolex too and I actually feel that this GS clasp is more secure though the micro adjustment, on the fly micro adjustment they call “5mm easy extension”, and taper of the Rolex bracelet are all great to have and features I wish the GS had.
