Working with a layer mask is way cleaner

no, they're not. they visually look the same, but the layer setup is different and method 1 is destructive. Who wants to indefinitely paint onto a layer when you can use an adjustment layer with a mask while having more variable control. Maybe amateur photoshop artists or people who don't understand the workflow?

    Where is the difference! 😂

The difference is that he's working in a not-destructional way working with a solid clor and with a layer mask where you can easily change the temperature and opacity of the colors.

Agreed. The only difference is having the convenience of quickly changing the color by double clicking on the red icon. Other than that he may aswell just have continued with the first method and added a mask and changed the color with a layer effect

Well it's a lot less painful to deal with this way. I used to use the first method for some personal designs, but the highlights did not turn out so great. This does seem to do a better job at it.
