"I don't want humanoids i want monsters" This is the dumbest take i've ever heard because medusa minotaurs and even mothman are still nonsters despite being humanoid Pokemon fans have no idea what "Monsters" are anymore
I genuinely think the reason the anti-humanoid Pokemon people have such weird and inconsistent views on humanoid Pokemon is an overreaction to the furry crowd that get off on those kinds of designs. Like, just look at Hoops' example of a "good" humanoid Pokemon: Machamp. In what world is that an example of a Pokemon that's different enough from humans that it can no longer be mistaken for humans? It's literally a buff dude in a speedo
@@ilyasssaidi5149 I'd say that Hitmonchan, Sawk and Throh all belong in that same debate. But yeah, it's decidedly one of the worst, beyond any shadow of a doubt.
@@MoostachedSaiyanPrince which is hypocrital because this fanbase also clap their hands at pokemon like greninja and lucario which are LITERALLY anthro animals with human-attributes (Ninja and egyptian god) Especially these two because they even behave like humans and not like animals
20:28 This is the best take. SV really HAS suffered from the open world and is not a fit for Pokemon as many would think. What's the point of exploring a vast world when the vast world barely has anything of note other than "oh, here's a thing that only spawns here"? Exploration and finding secrets are independent of needing an open world. If anything, open zone like Legends: Arceus is better than SV in this regard and that should be the standard. The biggest problem with open world games made in the Switch era, which includes games not on Switch, is Breath of the Wild. That game was such a success that many studios assumed the open world was the main reason for it and thus tried to replicate it, to varying degrees of success. If future Pokemon games HAVE to be open world, the region HAS to be smaller. If there needs to be a large region like Paldea again, there needs to be plenty of things to do with minimal filler areas. So many places in Paldea are too vast and empty, or otherwise can be completely ignored. Also, Paldea being too large means more things to load, which causes slowdowns and performance issues. Even if Game Freak is no longer bound by yearly releases, they still need work on optimization, so we still don't know if the devs can pull off a better open world than SV.
I'll never understand this take, of course there is still room for improvement but the open world is one of the most exciting directions Pokemon has taken, it offers far more freedom and exploration than ever before and the world feels like an actual world, like I said there's of course room for improvement but that is natural and with the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 I have no doubt that Gen 10 will offer an even better open world to explore with better visuals and (hopefully) less performance issues Out of all of Nintendo's franchise aside from Zelda, Pokemon makes the most sense to be open world because it is a game where you go on a journey and travel to all sorts of different places as you collect gym battles and meet all kinds of Pokemon and people. A game like this should have as much freedom as possible!
@friendlyotaku9525 but you can't. All you do is wander into an area and not be able to catch anything or battle anyone. Instead of being guided you have to ask where to go. It's pointless.
@@friendlyotaku9525 whilst themematically pokemon can suit an open world environment, game play wise it doesn't. As long as it has levelling up, the open world gameplay is completely useless.
One pet peeve I have is when someone says that Pokémon designs have gotten worse over the years and Game Freak doesn't even try anymore. There's definitely some older Pokémon designs that are just as plain and boring as newer ones.
Hot Take: when you critisize Delphox, you NEVER aknoledge it's origins 1. Humanoid and bipedal: all the kalos starters have a theme of RPG characters (who fights mostly by moving arms) So all of them were bound to a bipedal and human-like body. Delphox included. 2. the dress: Delphox being based on a burned witch, a dress is gonna look off even bulky when it's burned 3. the ear-hair. Being based on a witch, witches would use FIRE to look into the future. it would have been MORE awkward if Delphox had fire coming out its ears instead of hair in the shape of campfire. (Note: witch are already ugly anyway, but if look at Mother Mae eye from Teen Titans, She looks worse than delphox) 4: the wand: for all of you complaining that Delphox should have had a staff instead of a wand like Braixen, let me remind you that Witches are KNOWN to use wands. As for your hate when pokemon carrying objects, When you complain about that on Delphox, Delphox only holds that wand when it's doing a move. Delphox's idle animation has Delphox empty handed.
@@circledude2362 that's how I feel about Quaquaval, it has amazing origins and it's not anymore humanoid than Blaziken. But Delphox is cool too, honestly I at least appreciate every final starter evo
I know the backstory of Delphox but the execution is horrible. Its poorly executed and just weird AF. There's a reason why so many people hate it. Basically doesn't matter the backstory of a mon. For example would knowing the backstory of alolan raticate? Or sawk/throh? No because the execution FAILS.
I genuinely do not understand your take on humanoid Pokemon. Machamp is an example of a good one for you? But it's closer to being human than almost any other Pokemon. I can't make sense of that take. Like, replace the mouth, head ridges and remove extra arms, and it's literally just a buff dude in a speedo. That is WAY closer to being a human than Pokemon like Inteleon, who also has extra appendages, but it also has body proportions humans can't physically have as well as completely non-humanoid hands and feet. Like, look back at Machamp again, it's wearing ACTUAL clothes! I genuinely disagree with almost everything you've ever said on this topic, and your reasoning has never made sense to me.
Inteleon has proportions humans can’t physically have and yet people bash it to death for being too humanoid. Also what do you mean by non-humanoid hands? Those looks almost like human hands to me. Maybe if it had 3 fingers and a thumb on each hand instead of 4 then maybe? I appreciate you trying to defend it though and yeah, machamp is a weird example for them to bring up. If you remove the extra arms and with other features machamp is just a guy but Inteleon is a lizard that stands on 2 legs.
@THGMR-ox7sd I guess I misremembered Inteleon's hands, as I didn't have an image of it onscreen as I made my comment, but it doesn't really matter much since the rest of it still applies IMO. And the thing is, I don't even like Inteleon's design myself. I just hate blatantly disingenuous arguments like this. Like, defending something as humanoid as Machamp while whining about Inteleon being "too humanoid" on the same video is ridiculous. It's so bad that I genuinely think a lot of people spewing BS like this are just closeted furries that are overreacting to characters that make them feel a "certain way", and they don't know how to deal with it, so they lash out. Like little kids being mean to their crushes.
hot take: Fuecoco does not disprove the zodiac theory a croc is as close to snakes as an echidna is to a rat, so Fuecoco shouldn’t be the starter that flips your opinion as much as people are making it out to be if Cyndaqill was “close enough” for you pre-gen 9, then Fuecoco is “close enough” now
I avoided bringing up Fennikin cause unlike echidnas and crocodiles, fennec foxes do actually share their order and biological family with dogs, of which the other two break at order into squamata vs crocodilia and rodentia vs monotremata
My take is that the zodiac theory was never the intention, but at some point GameFreak caught wind of it and figured, hey, there's something we can turn to for inspiration if we need to, which would explain why there's been enough parallels to keep the theory alive, while not being completely one to one.
Agreed it was always supposed to be vague. Skeledurge is also more serpentine than real Crocodiles. I understand that male crocodiles are called bulls but another Zodiac reptile was right there which works much better. We now have the Ox, Goat, and Horse left which are all interestingly ungulates.
Ive been saying this since fuecoco was introduced, its always been loose connection anyway so idk why people are so quick to say a crocodile isnt close enuf when quilled mouse or fox is just as far off
0:37- Unova story 2:34- bipedal starters 7:25- Pokemon 3d sucks 10:10- Sprites vs 3d 13:32- voice acting 16:08- Infernape sucks 18:33- catching 20:40- open world Pokemon sucks
I personally love some of the humanoid starters. Inteleon is badass being this lizard with a gun, Cinderace looks so huggable and friendly that having this best buddy vibe from it, A little bias but Meowscarda being masked dark typed cat that throws bombs at its opponents gives me such Persona 5 vibe that I can’t help but love it and Quaquavel I can understand why people don’t like it but I kind of like how outrageously flamboyant it is. Also Incinaroar is one of the best fire types ever. I love how cartoony it is and despite this huge tough guy act, it’s literally a tsundere which is hilarious. Not to mention in Smash Bro’s, it loves to poses every time it attacks like he’s John Cena so I don’t understand how can people not love it.
Alright, here I go: 1. Red, Green, Blue and Yellow are the worst games in the franchise and have aged very badly, so much so that people currently only care about their remakes; 2. Johto has the worst dex introduced in the franchise, apart from Ampharos, Tyranitar and the starters, no pokemon introduced in this generation has the design or stats to say "This is a final stage pokemon"; 3. Red from the games (canon) is the most overrated character in the franchise, as he is said to be the "strongest trainer in history" by the fanbase, when, in his fight, he has a bad team loaded with high lvl (who puts a Pikachu at lvl 90 almost, bro?); 4. Lusamine is the best villain in the franchise, and her story, along with Alola's in general, are criminally underrated. 5. Unova starters should receive more appreciation. I don't care if it's a legless snake, a bipedal pig and a quadrupedal samurai otter, these design rules that fans create like criticizing Pokémon for the number of legs they walk on, is idiotic, and often contradictory.
5) I like Serperior the most of the 3. Snivy was the one I chose. So there’s some bias there. And I’ve warmed up to Samurott in recent years, I used to hate it, but I don’t anymore. It’s still goofy looking for me since Oshawott, and Dewott are bipedal and all of a sudden Samurott is quadrupedal? Especially when based on a Samurai it should’ve stayed on 2 legs. In fact if it did I probably would have picked Oshawott over Snivy. Tepig I love, I think it’s adorable. But it gets worse each time it evolves. Emboar specifically is my least favorite Pokémon. As it stands now, I think the design is ugly. But to be fair, I think it would’ve been better if that was on four legs. Still most likely would be my least favorite out of the 3, but it wouldn’t be my least favorite Pokémon. And the fact that it was the 3rd straight Fire/Fighting type starter doesnt help its case either. At the time we (Pokemon fans in general) were collectively over the Fire/Fighting type. Had it been Fire/Ground, or Fire/Dark maybe it would’ve been more liked
@@peterpaoliMMR The funny thing is that Samurott, along with Typhlosion, Swampert and Rillaboom, are the only starters in the franchise that assume both a bipedal and quadrupedal stance, but in the case of Samurott, it is said in some media (game Freak employee interviews that worked with design, for example) that he assumes his bipedal posture, in tough battles, or when he is wielding his swords. He is my favorite Pokémon and I prefer Samurott being quadrupedal, after all he is an otter, and we already have many bipedal water starters in the franchise, in addition to maintaining the ideas and concept of the Oshawott line, and I don't like criticizing a Pokémon for its amount of paws he walks on, I think this is a stupid design rule created by fans, and about what you said about him being a samurai, a four-legged samurai doesn't bother me, in the same way that Blastoise being a turtle with cannons never bothered me, or several other strange things in the franchise's designs.
My opinion on the starter hot take is that: Starter designs have proved to be way more successful when they're like characters, rather than when they look like just animals with an element type sticked to them. The bipedal/human-like designs literally have been the most popular starters of their respective trios in pretty much every generation. They're supposed to be your first pokemon companions. Canonically, they're referred to as partners. Most quadruped starters, like skeledirge and swampert for example, don't even look as if they could pass the mirror test. And they tend to lose a lot of personality as soon as they evolve. And intelligence, sentience and personality are definitely 3 very important factors in what makes a pokemon popular and cool (and even plays a factor in which pokemon the characters from the anime end up catching/evolving). There's also this added dimension of movement and personality in a pokemon's character design since the games moved past the era of sprites that is better represented with bipedal/human-like designs (you'll never see a Greninja level fast paced battle with a skeledirge or a venasaur). With bipedal/human-like starters like Incineroar, Sceptile, Greninja, Inteleon, Blaziken, Cinderace, Rillaboom or Meowscarada, I can see them having a wider range of facial expressions (other than angry monster) and I also can see them move in an epic fast paced battle in the anime (which tend to be the most cool looking fights). But this is very hard to portray with quadrupeds. They're very limited for moves like kicks, punches, jumps and overall have way less personality as they evolve. On the other hand, you can immediately tell what bipedal/human-like starters are just by the way they look and move. And this also applies to pretty much all the bipedal/human-like pokemon in general. And starting with gen 5, they decided to design each of the 3 starters with a different appeal in mind. This was a problem that the earlier gens had that doesn't get talked about much, but as an example, if you weren't interested in bulky, though looking pokemon, none of the gen 1 starters would interest you. By striking a femenine design, a masculine design and an edgy/cool design there's a higher chance a majority of people are going to gravitate towards one of the starters over the others based on their own preferences. And as I already explained, most of the aspects that make starters cool are better represented with bipedal/human-like like pokemon.
All great points! I think another element to add is that some people treat/think of starters in different ways. I personally attribute a starter to the equivalent of a "pet", rather than a elemental character/friend that grows with you. I actually prefer the less "intelligent" or "sentient" starters like Swampert and Torterra, because they're just guys that look like I could give a belly rub, without it feeling weird (which I can't say the same for Inteleon...). Just another creature that wants to go on an adventuer with me, you know? Like taking your dog for a hike! I also like when animalistic starters are either based on fictional animals (obvious example being charizard = cool dragon lizard) or hard to pin down exactly what they are! As a kid I didn't know what a mudskipper/axolotl was, but just seeing an ambigiously-origined aquatic animal was just cool to me inherently! It made me want to learn more about them. And the fact that they DONT have an immediately obvious personality trait makes it feel more "grounded" to me. I don't expect someone to constantly be happy all the time, or always be sly/edgy/etc, but have a range of emotions. Battle animations/the anime/amie/camp can also help portray different personalities when attacking/winning/losing/eating/sleepy/etc. I think GF is appealing to starters being treated more like "characters" with traits easily recognizable to an audience, which garners more immediate recognition (soccer player = nimble, a little smug, confident, playful) which is why newer starters are generally seen as more popular by the metrics you laid out. But that doesn't necessarily mean it's wrong or right to like the non-humanoid starters :)
@timothyallen1345 First of all, pokemon are not literally pets. It's more complex than that. And second of all: Quadruped starters are literally an example of the opposite. It's very hard to tell a personality and a character from a pokemon like skeledirge because it's technically just a quadruped crocodile with an elemental type stick to it and it looks like it's going to bite your leg off. It's a clear example of what I'm referring when I say that most quadruped pokemon don't really look as if they could pass the mirror test (and again, I'm not hating on skeledirge, I could've used literally any other quadruped pokemon/starter for this example). And as I said, intelligence, sentience and personality are definitely 3 very important factors in what makes a pokemon popular and cool. And whether or not you want to admit it bipedal/human-like starters are way more popular than quadrupeds. Literally the most popular ones of their respective trios in pretty much every gen. And they're also much better at portraying personality, sentience and intelligent, which as I said, are three very important factor in what makes a pokemon actually popular and cool. Meowscarada for example is clearly bipedal and humanoid, extremely popular, very expressive, with a wider range of facial expressions and its design allows more freedom when it comes to fighting. And it takes inspiration from Doronjo, the female cat themed villain from the anime Yatterman that uses bombs as her signature attack (hence the dark type). Sprigatito is even Liko's starter in the anime. And Meowscarada is practically everything the anime loves when it comes to ace pokemon. Bipedal. Fast. Thin. Lots of close range moves with a good mix of long range moves. Its magician theme can be used for humour in and outside of battle. Overall, an extremely popular pokemon that is able to pull off everything I mentioned that is important in a pokemon.
@@giboit. I respect your perspective and opinions on how successful designs are. And I'm aware that pokemon aren't JUST pets, but the thesis of Pokemon originates from catching bugs in the wild and imagining them as larger creatures to befriend. As pokemon has developed, they have changed the thesis to include personality-driven "character" types of designs, which I don't think is inherently a good or bad thing! The way they handle those designs just personally isn't my cup of tea! And I sort of disagree on your presumptions that quadraped = not expressive enough. If you look at real life dogs, they can be very expressive: they can be very happy, energetic, sad, hungry, angry, sleepy, etc. and Pokemon can show these same expressions. It just has to do with execution. Sentience on the human-level isn't everything, in this discussion. Things can be sentient without having human-knowledge/mental capabilities in order to connect with them (again, you can bond with your dog). To use your own example of Skeledirge, I can tell it's personality because of it's singing motif, and how it reacts when you interact with it in Camp! And it has markings of "Day of the dead", and has a bird on it's nose, showing it's capable of interacting with others in a non-harmful way and coexist with other creatures/spirits. It's evolution literally shows the life cycle of the bird being born on his head, and helping it in battle. But maybe I'm just more attuned to seeing those subtleites because I enjoyed it's quadruped design! I'm just saying humanoid pokemon can be more "popular" cause they're easier to recognize/digest from an initial look. But I'd argue that there is also a large audience that yearn for more traditional animal-like designs that lean less into human traits/sentience, and more into just "hey I love turtles, and he looks like he understands me, he's my new bestie" kinda vibes, you know? You're free to like whatever design you want! But saying "this kind of design is more popular, therefore other designs are just worse by comparison" is a bit dissmissive. But I'm happy for you that you enjoy the bipedal designs!
@timothyallen1345 Please, just looking at the franchise itself quadruped designs like venasaur are clearly way less expressive and able to move than bipedal designs like Politoed, Poliwrath or even Bellibolt. You may enjoy quadruped designs but don't fool yourself. They're definitely less popular, less practical for movement and expressions, have way less personality as they evolve and overall they're not better as a whole.
I feel like if voice acting is ever put into a main series Pokemon game it needs to be strictly for cutscenes or have it be an option to turn on and off what do you know for people who aren't the best readers or might want to hear what it sounds like a certain Pokemons name
THIS, THIS RIGHT HERE, THANK YOU Literally what I’ve been saying. Every Pokemon is unique, even if some might be seen as “ugly” or “unpopular” by fans, there’s gotta be someone supporting those underdogs Some of my examples include Dusknoir, Delphox, and Slurpuff
@@madnessarcade7447 not bad games or designs? That take is hotter than a magcargo who is hotter than the sun. Maybe in a better timeline, you could be talking the truth but you know how the internet is like. I’m at least glad you have that take and not everyone is crazy.
My own: [1]: Only Legendaries should be Shiny-unlocked. Starters and Mythicals should be locked. [2]: Grass is the best Starter type (examples: Bulbasaur, Chespin, Rowlet, Sprigatito) [3]: Enamorus is in my top 100 favourite Pokémon, easily. [4]: Violet Paradoxes > Scarlet Paradoxes. [5]: LA and S/V had the best graphics in the franchise. [6]: HMs should return, but Move Deletion should be more accessible.
@@someonehavinganidentitycrisisFor the Starters, new players are not only not experienced enough to know what Shiny Pokémon are, but they also may get confused if their first ever Pokémon appears in a different colour. Also, you can breed for the Shiny. As for the Mythicals, that is because they are event-only. This means that, if the Pokémon is given out via Mystery Gift, you have one shot to hope and pray that it's Shiny. And even if it isn't Mystery Gift, if you get a non-Shiny Mythical, good luck getting its Shiny counterpart.
@MystmonWait y should HMs come back? 🤔. Like if it's bcoz u want to use those moves like Surf, Waterfall, Fly etc, they are already TMs now. So I don't understand y u want to waste a move slot for something like cut or flash which are completely useless. 🤔
@Mystmon So wouldn't it be a better idea to like like implement it like a "hidden technique"? Like its a skill like thing. For example if u want to fly or surf the animation will be of u using ur Pidgeot or Gayarados but it doesn't take up a move slot. Like how many fan games and rom hacks have done it?
If Pokémon insists on continuing this open world path then it needs a lot of improvement. Not letting players enter most buildings, NPCs only having a text box pop up on top of them instead of allowing you to talk, pokemon not interacting with their environment or other pokemon, the lack of exploration to be done, etc made Paldea feel pretty bland and boring
I too hate the idea of Voice Actors in the game. I don’t like reading at someone else’s speed. And sometimes I really don’t like specific voices because they can be grating.
If voice acting is added, it would more likely be restricted to important NPC's, but it would make game production more expensive, along with data storage issues. The Pikachu voice in Yellow had to be compressed to fit on a cartridge.
I think if it was limited to cutscenes it would be perfect I can already imagine the annoyance of hearing random npc 203 say their line of proximity dialogue every time you walk past them because they happen to stand close enough to a spot you have to travel often
I'm not a competitive Pokemon player and never will be, but I completely agree with you. Like, I want to see how good each Mythical Pokemon is in competitive in the current generation. Why not have a format that bans all Legendary and Paradox Pokemon and include Mythical Pokemon instead, that would be awesome.
I respect your opinion and right to it, but I still stand by what I said: Pokemon would have been better, if they had continued with what Sword & Shield had done - numbered routes and a Wild Area (with more Wild Areas via DLC). That being said, I'll still likely play Gen 10 regardless; I just hope they can, like you said, refine it.
I found it intresting how many ppl were like "Scarlet and Violet WORST worldbuild and animation EVER! Trash!" first, and nowadays i hear so many ppl calling it okayish til very good bc of the open world thing, WHILE ME, a Gen8 and Galar enjoyer, feel more and more isolated and lonely, seeing more and more ppl trashing on Gen8 in retrospective now xD
You’re not the only galar enjoyer. I’ve said this many times before but I really hope we get a legends game in galar at some point and even though that won’t fix sword and shield, I hope the region itself gets redeemed and they have a better story since people hate Rose for having a silly motive preventing something that won’t happen until years and years have passed. Also I agree that scarlet and violet have downgraded in terms of animations when it comes to moves in battle. As for bad world building I kinda get where people are coming from but it doesn’t bother me.
My pet peeve is that they still haven’t made a real crystal Onix or pink Butterfree or any of the other special pokemon shown in the anime. I mean it should be very simple to create a backstory for the crystal Onix. Maybe an Onix that have shared a cave with Carbink or been around Diancie, will start to take on some of the crystal aspects.
- I love all of the Violet Paradoxes and most of the Scarlet ones - Flutter Mane can not only handle having a lower BST than its fellow Paradoxes, it actively deserves it, although partially because it's my least favorite Pokémon - I also don't like Zacian for similar reasons, but I do also like Iron Bundle and Regieleki, also for similar reasons, competitive usage exaggerates my pre-existing feelings for certain Pokémon - Other unpopular Pokémon I like are Hypno, Bruxish, Sawk, Throh, Frigibax, Quilladin, Chesnaught, Diggersby, Zamazenta, Okidogi, Munkidori, Electivire and all the Regis - It's funny when Game Freak references memes
- I agree to an extent but I slightly like the past ones more because of slither wing and roaring moon. - oh, you’re talking about flutter mane in terms of competitive… that thing is a monster even though I’ve never really played enough competitive to get destroyed by it but I do know its reputation. Personally I like the design though. - I love zacian… design wise. Hopefully zacian isn’t completely decimated thanks to the nerf and I’m glad zamazenta is doing better because I love the legendary dogs. I can fully understand why you’d hate zacian though. - I like most of these too except for bruxish. Nice to see a fellow regi enjoyer 😄 - true
Here's another hot take: Brilliant Diamond and Shining aren't bad games. They are just victims of time and development constraints, along with Game Freak wanting do to something else that the fan's didn't know about.
No those games weren't made by game freak and were just a lazy copy paste because bugs in the ds version exist in the "new" switch version. Because they know people like you will still pay for shit
My Hot Take: Most of the XY anime wasn’t that interesting until we got to the Z arc, and Serena is a mid girl lead. Not hating on them, just that they could have been done a lot better.
I don't think this is actually a hot take among the vast majority of the fandom each their own but: There's nothing androgynous about Gardevoir despite the mental gymnastics that some vocal minority makes to pretend that they don't see how feminine Gardevoir actually is and always has been. I've seen people getting hate just for saying that they want Kirlia to only be able to evolve into Gardevoir if it's female. Which is utter nonsense because they aren't saying anything weird. Kirlia should definitely only evolve into Gardevoir if female. I always make sure to catch a female Ralts when I'm planning to have a Gardevoir in my team. And I honestly wish they make the evolution line to only be able to evolve into Gardevoir if female in the new games. Pokemon is no stranger to making pokemon that are intentionally designed with one specific gender in mind. Which is why I only catch pokemon in the gender that they fit the most. Gardevoir was always meant to be portrayed as female. Some people just get confused by the japanese name but that's actually a full on misinterpretation since Sirknight due to the way is pronounced can be read as Saa-knight which roughly translates to "Come here, knight". They could even use the pokedex entries to say that the Ralts line is naturally evolving into being a gender based evolution. Similar to how the wormadam/mothim line currently works. And that way they could justify Kirlia only evolving into Gardevoir if female in the new games. But an excuse isn't even necessary because they've already made changes to the ralts line in the past like adding the fairy type, adding it to the human-like group and Gardevoir's portrayal in pretty much all forms of media has been exclusively female. So I hope for them to also adjust the gender ratios for Gardevoir to be female only and that way be consistent with its design and portrayal. In fact, they've already started to do that for things like the tera raids battles with certain pokemon. Pokemon like eevee, meganium, delphox and primarina, which are overall clearly seen as feminine looking had been added to the tera raid den events exclusively as females. By the way, I mentioned Gardevoir but this idea also extends to other pokemon like Machamp, Lopunny and Gothitelle, which were clearly designed with a specific gender for their concepts and designs in mind. Gardevoir is just the most known example.
My hot takes: Mewtwo Strikes Back is one of the most overrated movies I’ve ever watched in my life. I really don’t mind the Exp Share working for all Pokemon because I really hate grinding in Pokemon, especially after I come back home from a long day at work and all I wanna do is relax and play through a Pokemon game and its story. I will say though I think the option to turn it off should be there for the people who don’t wanna overlevel their mons. While BDSP aren’t great, I feel they’re decent games. I’d definitely rather play them over the original DP games (though Platinum and Legends are the better Sinnoh games). I liked Pokemon Showcases in the XY/XYZ anime. It was cool to watch great looking scenes that didn’t involve any battling. Though I wish they had let guys participate like they did in Contests. If they made a new Pokemon movie would rather see one with new characters instead of Ash or even the Horizons characters.
In my opinion, I don't think Pokémon like Incineror or Inteleon look like humans, yes they stand up on two legs and use their limbs in a similar way to a human, but to me they don't look like humans at all, even Machamp has more of a resemblance to a bodybuilder, but looks different enough to not be a human. I feel like you can dislike anything in a Pokémon, but at the end of the day, it's an opinion and will always be pretty subjective.
Me and hoops share the same opinion about newer gen games, while the newer games have their issues, they are judged a lot more hypercritically. Yeah I wouldn't say the 3D games are flawless, but we do tend to judge more harshly due to more modern standards
I will half agree with you on the BW anime. If we only see Ash's perspective, its an absolute slog with how dumb they made his character; however they made Team Rocket an legit threat which was refreshing. Too bad that Unovas Pokemon are mostly garbage
@@crimsonemperor2219 Even with just Ash’s perspective the anime is still pretty good. And it’s not like he was dumbed down, but more like he was more excitable.
Hot take: I love the future Paradox Pokémon WAY more than the past Paradox Pokémon. I just think robots are cool. I also don't mind that they all have "Iron" in their names, and that their shiny colours are all chrome.
I somewhat agree but I still prefer the past paradoxes. I think they are done better like most people say but I also think the futuristic paradoxes get too much hate even though they are just robots and I can see why people can get bored of it. I just love the interesting animations they have compared to the past paradoxes who are just hulking beasts that move how you would expect them to. A lot of people say the future ones are just the same Pokémon but a robot (minus iron valiant obviously) but I don’t agree. Iron jugulis isn’t just a Ctrl C + Ctrl V of hydreigon with a metal texture. The extra heads aren’t attached to its body and that could be used for more interesting animations that haven’t actually been taken advantage of but you get the point. I do wish they did a bit more with the design but sometimes simple things can be effective… to some people. All of them having chrome shinies works better on some than it does on others. I personally love the ones that start completely differently and then become chrome like iron thorns or iron bundle. Iron hands and iron moth don’t work too well in my opinion but I don’t hate it.
A hot take! Goh, Nemona, and Barry is best rivals! Also black and white games are so great. But i enjoyed black and white 2 more. But my top 5 favorite pokemon games are: Scarlet and violet, black and white 2, arceus legends, sword and shield, and ultra sun and moon. Also like all pokemon, all shapes and sizes. They are all good in their own way. But its funny that i enjoy bipedal pokemon starters. But i don't like incineroar that much, torracat is best cat. But i enjoy Infernape, Cinderace, greninja, and Meowscarada. Also i agree that i loved that pokemon became a open world
The problem with scarlet and violets open world is the lack of a level scaling. Oh you can do all the gym leaders and stuff in any order? Great. Except no, you barely can. Their levels are always the same.
My other hot take. Fans are to blame for Gamefreaks lack of innovation. We bitch and complain but end up buying a broken, rushed and out of date product. If we want a change then well you know what we have to do. But we all know we wont. We have more power than we realize and definitely dictate GFs direction if sales are impacted.
I agree I actually really like BDSP And that says a lot cus I don’t really like Sinnoh that much I think it’s the worst pokemon region And another hot take Chimchar is the worst pokemon in my opinion I just don’t like it
@@BergmitetheBlueandPointy0712 true But I do see where they are coming from since she can be pretty difficult but with the right move sets and items she can be easy But yeah Cynthia is pretty overrated I honestly think the best champion is Steven
@@typlaz643 Yeah, I can see that they like the challenge, but I hate how she can be THIS popular by just being hard. She’s difficult and then the whole community actively treated her like a god and absolutely invincible, even though they all probably had beaten her multiple times including me. The more people, and even Pokemon itself glazed Cynthia and try to make her even more popular and godlike, the more I feel like Cynthia is essentially a Mary Sue that people loves for stupid reasons, and she’s essentially the human Charizard. 😒
@ could not have said it better myself. I myself have beaten her like over 30 times and it’s easy now that I’ve done it multiple times. I 100 percent agree she’s the human Charizard.
My hot take: team skull was actually a good thing, they were the "evil team" for a majority of sun and moon/ultra sun and moon but no one in the game takes them seriously. Hell, dare i say, they were better than the aether foundation.
Hot take - game freak lost its magic and charm with starters. They used to mean so much more but with lack of direction and execution, starter designs are all over the place. Its like theyre throwing shit on a wall and seeing what sticks. Hence why so many ppl hate them and abandon them. Yes there are some stans out there but cmon yall..what are we doing..
That is so depressing but I somewhat agree. I feel like it’s not ok for me to like some of the modern starters because of that now and it kinda ruins the fun of seeing the starters.
I think open world Pokémon games need to eventually be expanded to a complete game featuring the first 4 regions in a single game. At this point, it's established that Kanto, Johto, Hoenn and Sinnoh are connected in some fashion and we should be able to see that in a singular game. Call it something like Pokémon Prism and you truly get to experience the entire journey through the Pokémon world or half of it anyways.
My take regarding 2D vs 3D pokemon games: No disrespect to the 2D/2.5 era of the pokemon games but: I think 3D is much better. The new friendship mechanics like pokemon amie, pokemon refresh, pokemon camp and pokemon picnics have increased the level of inmersion with your pokemon to the point where it's not even a contest. It's on a completely different level compared to sprites. You can play with them, you can feed them, clean them, heal them, bathe them, they can get close and interact with you directly, they can interact with each other and you can see/interact with more than one at the time and they even walk near you in the overworld. The pokemon have small reactions when they defeat a pokemon or when they're just waiting for you to command the next attack, they can literally decide to join your team if they're wild pokemon while using some of the buddy time mechanics (like in pokemon camp). They can even show expressions like getting angry or scared of other pokemon which already is more personality than what you can get watching a sprite. Heck, have you seen pokemon like Sudowoodo, Passimian or Mr. Mime fainting animations? You have more personality there than in the basic movement of multiple sprites. Not to mention that with 3D the pokemon in the wild either run towards you or straigh up attack you, act curious towards you when they see you, they react when you whistle at them or flee from you based on what their personality is meant to portray. And what can you do with 2D sprites? Oh yeah, you can see them from the front or from the back doing a pose at best and unless you're going to use a potion on them or revive them you basically can only see them in battle. Also let's be real, if the pokemon company would've stayed with 2D sprites right now we'll have a massive amount of "fans" whining about how pokemon is as big as it is and still doesn't jump to 3D yet. And people love to whine about moves like double kick or tackle on scorbunny, you know, those moves that you totally are going to keep in its moveset and not replace after the first 15 minutes or less of the game and forget that with 3D you get vastly superior inmersion when it comes to moves as well. Do people seriously think that moves like giga impact, flamethrower, thunderbolt or hyper beam are nearly as cool in 2D as they're in 3D? Of course not. But sure, "3D moves look bad". Heck, you can't even see the face of your own avatar with 2D. While on the other hand with 3D you can custumize the player character to look like you, you can see them throwing the pokeball to catch or battle againts other pokemon or trainers, you can even see the player character during battle and not just the back of the pokemon and you can also see the trainer doing movements when you order a pokemon to do a move. "I like to use my imagination" is not a great argument when you consider that this kind of games heavily rely on connection to your team. And with 3D you get far more interactions which in turn, get you more connection because you can actually experience more things with them than just watching them from the back during battle. Sorry for the ridiculously long comment. I just wanted to share my opinion and I tend to write a lot.
Hot take: I feel like the player’s decisions should affect the game’s story in ways that vary from minor to big. I remember playing Pokemon X and getting to Snowbelle City and Professor Sycamore appeared and said something to the effect of “the way you want to play/take your journey is completely up to you,” which… isn’t quite true when entire areas are blocked off to instead railroad the player through one specific path to take throughout the entire map. I remember moments in XY and Sun and Moon where you had multiple dialogue options or the moment you had to press the right button to stop Team Flare’s super weapon, but again, whichever you chose never changed the overall outcome. Like, obviously the player shouldn’t drastically derail the entire story like with the button to the super weapon, but it would be nice if you could affect things like how a rival treats you/trains their pokemon or even just the actual freedom to explore and catch pokemon so long as you have the strength without limits aside from your Pokémon’s level
Pokémon should be open world but Paldea is basic as heck with the exception of Area Zero and that babmbo forest in the North East. It really didn't feel like the the country it was based off of(Spain); Unova felt like Eastern USA, Kalos/France, Alola/Hawaii, UK/Galar.
Am sorry but you js lost a subscriber, Infernape is my favorite pokemon and I js don't understand why charmander is so popular with it js being a lizard with fire on its tail and Charizard is now a dragon with fire on its tail, at least infernape has more color design and embrace more fire elements, unlike Charizard with the fact that it got bigger and got wings, at least with Chamchar it changes upon evolving and there is no excuse that " that Charizard is a classic" 😡 that all I got to say 💀💀💀💀
Hot take: The exp share is perfectly fine. It's just a general quality of life improvement. I don't think spending hours whacking birds in the grass is fun and it makes experimenting with different Pokemon in your team as you go a lot easier.
Totally agree about the 3D games, the Let's Go catching system and the open world concept. Infernape though is just as cool as the other two Sinnoh starters and not overrated. Incineroar is also a super cool Pokemon while being bipedal. Regarding the voice acting, I think it is bound to happen, but I don't think it would be detrimental to not have it since Pokemon didn't have it for so long, but yes if it does happen it should be used only for the more important cutscenes, not random NPC's, that would be too much to ask. And regarding the story, Gen 5 and 7 stories are awesome, but the top 3 stories are actually D/P/PT, Legends Arceus and SV.
Legends Arceus is overrated. Its a fine game overall, but it has its flaws with the story and also the game play. My main story issue is the conflict between the Diamond and Pearl Clans doesn't make sense because there are statues of both Dialga and Palkia, not just the one like there should be. There should be only one statue in that area that looks like a combined Dialga and Palkia like it is seen in Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum. If there was only one statue, like there should be, the storyline makes sense because the two clans are debating on whether the one statue is the pokemon controls time or space. There being two statues: 2. makes that whole storyline make no sense. Like seriously, what are they fighting for? The proof of two legendaries is right there! 2. Ruins a cool piece of Sinnoh Lore.
I kinda agree with you but I don’t think one tiny issue with the story makes a whole game overrated. Sure it would be great if they thought about it but I didn’t even think about that until you brought it up. Also legends arceus has my favourite gameplay for a Pokémon game in recent time. Definitely prefer it over scarlet and violet’s gameplay. My only issue with pla is the graphics which I don’t hate and are a problem in most modern Pokémon games but I just feel like some areas could look better if the textures weren’t so weird. My favourite place is probably the hall of origin and how it references the sinjoh ruins when you fight arceus and I do like most of the areas overall despite the fact that some shadows glitch out. I definitely understand what you mean when it comes to the story. It’s silly how the clans are fighting over which legendary exists when there’s statues that prove both legendaries exist and aren’t 1 god but actually 2. Still doesn’t completely destroy the game for me but I don’t think the argument against the story is stupid and it’s completely valid. It would be cooler if they kept the 2 statues but it changes to that during postgame then in the main story it is one statue so they destroy the statue and split it into the dialga and palkia statues and there’s some dialogue explaining this or something like that. Definitely should have that statue be the fusion of dialga and palkia like in BDSP. That’s just my idea though if I were to fix this small issue.
Even over Luvdisc? It not evolving into Alomomola is easily one of the biggest missteps in the franchise. I genuinely believe what could’ve happened was they probably planned for it to evolve that way, but didn’t want to set up the notion for more previous Gen evolutions in Gen 5 instead of just the one. This is all just a hunch though.
I’m nit sure that much of a hot take most of the violet paradoxes mons are pretty bland the only ones that look good or at least decent are iron thorns trends and moth. Of course have iron valiant who is an example of good violet paradox mon.
With all due respect; iron leaves is far from the worst. Need I remind you that the Aipalm line, the 3 unova monkeys, and the spritzy line exist. Sure, iron leaves isn't an exciting pokemon, but it ain't horrible
9:35 I think most people look back more fondly on the third versions of the 2D games rather than the base games they originated from. Like, I hear people talk about how great Platinum or Emerald were and not so much DP or RS. Third versions were, basically, the games GameFreak wanted to make and the base games were more like tech demos of what the game could potentially be. In the 3D era, we don't get that third version anymore, so we only have the base games to judge. And those games are usually unfinished.
Bro... "Chimchar is just a monkey with a fire tail" "Piplup and Turtwiug are awesome". They are literally just a penguin and turtle... I don't know why that triggered me so much lol
14:39 Ok fellas, which has voice acting? A) a DS game on a console that was getting old at the time B) a modern game on modern console by the biggest franchise in the 2nd most popular game in said franchise.
The whole bipedal thing is a mix bag If a starter is on all 4s then go bipedal randomly like Sprigitto or Litten, thats my gripe STAY ON ALL 4S Now like Cinderace and Intelon make sense and not that big since they started bipedal but they could use some more monsterous elements I think with Furrys being more mainstream doesnt help Not hating on the furry community, but im partly blaming them because the fursuits look good
100% agree with you but I don’t hate incineroar. I don’t mind that litten doesn’t stay on all four but I do welcome that idea if we get some sort of incineroar variant that isn’t wrestling based. Not sure how cinderace can look more monstery and still have the soccer player/footballer theme but might as well try if barely anyone likes the current cinderace we have.
@THGMR-ox7sd oh I don't hate any of the starters I just used Litten as my example because I know that was a big complaint back when Gen7 came out And yea it would be hard to add in more monstrous features and keep the original theme of the mod Maybe something for a Legends game or even a paradox form if those ever come back
Hot take Pokémon let’s go had something solid. The original games re-explored while also making the games feel more like the indigo league series. Just flying around kanto on the back of my Charizard.
here's my hot take: Gen 3 is the worst generation it's just bland, Ruby/Sapphire and FireRed/LeafGreen have no personality, I mean they kinda do, but it's just not fleshed out enough, and it all feels hollow, Hoenn just kinda feels like Kanto 2.0 and Kanto just feels the same, minus the random Johto and Hoenn content. Oh yeah, and the Sevii Islands are just a bit of Hoenn randomly forced upon Kanto.
Unova's story falls apart in the final act because of Ghetsis. The story and moral they've led up to REQUIRED a morally grey villain at the helm and instead we get the single most evil character in the entire series. Agreed about Sun/Moon and SV being better! There are plenty of "humanoid" monsters out there in world tales. Having human traits is often used to *emphasize* being monsterous. Possibly because it falls into the uncanny valley, but also because a lot of monsters can even be mistaken for humans and the stories are generally rooted in cautionary tales. We don't have any pokemon that are THAT human, unless you count things like that one Froslass who could either turn into a human or cast an illusion to look like one. Sprite vs 3D animation is an interesting matter, since they're different art forms. It's funny to me that it took until Platinum for trainers to move! And then until BW for the human characters to emote in the overworld! Final Fantasy 6 perfected that in the 1990s! I also like doing the voices myself; did fully voiced playthroughs of BDSP, PLA, and Violet. But I wouldn't mind voiced games like Breath of the Wild where characters have reaction sounds and only have full lines in certain scenes. Piers would be REALLY hard because you'd have to actually write a song *and* translate it into every language AND have every actor be able to convincingly sing it. And with SwSh having the absolute worst chuds of the "fanbase" to the point where they threatened the staffers, this would have put a voice cast in the firing line as well, like what happened with Last of Us 2. So many innocent actors would have been threatened for daring to be in a game people didn't like (read, were determined to hate before release because of things that were entirely irrelevant to quality). The Let's Go gameplay was SO BAD that it was prohibitive to people with mobility issues. Seeing people defend it is bizarre to me because it prevented me and a lot of other people from being able to even play the special gimmick at all.
@@BJGvideos I agree with Black and White’s story on how contradicting its ending gets, and how this is something that always happens in stories and it’s dumb. They pretend as if nobody’s completely good or bad or whatever, only to still made a pure evil character into it, completely breaking the rules.
@@BergmitetheBlueandPointy0712 Oh no, to change him now would be Ultra Lusamine levels of nope. There's one manga where N is just the flat out Plasma boss, so I wonder how that came to be.
I find the 3D models sometimes just don’t make sense in their pose/chilling state. Like so many birds that are just wings out “gliding” even though they’re perfectly still in space. Or like purloin going from all 4s to on it’s 2 back feet
Although I don't think open world is necessarily a bad fit for Pokémon i do think it was poorly executed in scarlet and violet, the region does feel very empty at points and older games would have locations to explore such caves, ruins or even modern buildings such as silph co where as SV doesn't and is just fields and mountains, I would say though i feel part of SVs open world problem comes with what is probably my hot take not enough new Pokémon, this is something ive felt since X and Y that new Pokémon are massively out numbered by older ones giving you less to discover ( especially in a bigger sandbox) and making them feel less important, the reason older fans still resonate so much with Pokémon like Eevee, snorlax or sudowoodo is not because those designs necessarily better than say kilowatral, oinkologne or arboliva but because of how you encounter them in there debut games, Eevee has a fun gimmick but you only got one in the originals so you had to choose carefully, snorlax and sudowoodo were roadblocks that required you to do certain story events and find certain items so they were rewards for effort, no new Pokémon has that same treatment and an open world doesn't mean you can't have roadblocks
I agree with the person who said open world has been a downgrade. It doesn't help that I already hate open world games as a whole but XY & ORAS are infinitely better than SV. I don't even personally care about the immersion argument because at least for me the gameplay and exploration suffer immensely in open world compared to linear with lots of optional areas to explore.
Here's my other hottake is that pokemon won't go mature levels and stay kid friendly I know some people go like "THAT'S TOO KID FRIENDLY WHERE'S THE EDGY STUFF" we know but you can make creative stories even it still stays at kid friendly like how SV has an amazing story and SM have a creative and unique story you can even add dark tones to it that makes people go like...i thought it's for everyone like how mostly pokemon have creepy Dex entries you can make it still be kid friendly but added dark moments make it scary and why you ask? Well if it did...pokemon will lost it's population and I'm glad it's still kid friendly and lovable series I've thank for
Hot take: Delphox is no worse than any other humanoid -mon's (I'm thinking Blastoise as a -mon I think is mid). I wish Delphox was better as a fighter, but a fire fox witch with a stick wand is nicely balanced between humanoid, and I could see it in the wild.
"Pokemon should be monsters." Two things: 1. Most monsters in legend are humanoid/bipedal. 2. You've clearly never read the Japanese translation of the Sinnoh history book. Infernape doesn't suck. Infernape was and is never allowed to reach its full potential. Imagine a way to master the Blaze ability and unlock a new form, power, and signiture move.
Hot take: the whole "Starter Pokémon looking too humanoid" debate made people delusional, thinking that Skeledirge's design is good. Don't get me wrong. Starter Pokémon are appealing in their own way as they are the first buddies you'll get for your whole adventure, but when it comes to their evos there are some designs that are questionably bad or unappealing IMO, (like Charizard, whose design doesn't hit as hard nowadays as it used to. It's just an orange dragon and nothing more). Skeledirge, however, is objectively one, if the not the worst, 2nd-phase starter design EVER. I've seen it gets more praise because it's not bipedal like Quaquaval or Meowscarada than for its appearance.
- People whining about bipedal / humanoid starters is WAY more annoying than a prevalence of bipedal / humanoid starters would have ever been. - Voice acting outside of very specific cutscene moments (ie. ones that don't involve direct input from the player character) or the occasional excited yells in battle would absolutely tank the immersion. They already haven't called your Pokemon by their names that you give them for several generations now, if they voiced everything you might as well not have a customized team anymore. - Open world games are oversaturated as it is, so no, Pokemon did not need to be open world. Though let's be real, my only non-SV experiences with open world games have been BotW and the Xenoblade series, and Xenoblade sets the standard for an Actually Freaking Interesting open world and not one that just looks like...bleh. And my hot take that doesn't seem to connect to anything directly mentioned in this video? Mega evolution should've stayed in gen 6. It shouldn't've come back in gen 7 and I think that set a precedent that people have been super freaking obnoxious about for five years. I can excuse them bringing it back for Legends Z-A because if any game makes sense to bring it back it'd be Kalos, but it really shoulda stayed there to begin with. Even putting it in ORAS was pushing things imo.
Hot Take: Pikachu is extremely overated. He gets away with too much. The seizure incident is one of them. there are times. we need Clefairy to have attention and attention MORE than pikachu. Gamefreak might as well replace Pikachu and make Clefairy the new pokemon mascot as they intended.
Pokémon definitely benefits from open world but that doesnt mean s/v did it well. I really enjoyed the exploration the first time but what makes open world stuff fun is if there is benefits to returning to places, so I hope that s/v is a good stepping stone from a bland open world to a good one
Hot take: fakemon are why we haven't seen a new eeveelution Edit: and likely why we never will... not unless pokemon creators ever lose their fear of using fan designs
I agree Infernape is overhyped for sure, but I still think it's the best of the Fire/Fighting starters. I'm sure the anime had a huge effect on Infernape's popularity so it kind of gets a pass there, but what's a huge shock to me is that Blaziken is almost as popular - I have distinct memories of being a little kid when the games came out like you, and thinking Chimchar's design was ugly or that Blaziken looked too much like a Digimon.
If they'd actually make the games have stable frame rates then most of the complaints about 3D Pokemon games would never be talked up. You'd be surprised how easy gamers are when a game that costs $60-80 at launch just effing works.
In regards to the bipedal pokemon, the argument is less against any bipedal pokemon, but rather against the Starter's specifically being given bipedal evolutions. Obviously people are going to complain regardless of what we get, but i do think there is some argument to be made again bipedal Starters, specifically those that have much more human proportions. I can fully understand the hate for Meowscarada and Quackquaval's designs, as they come off as far more furry bait than something like Charizard, Sceptile, or Empoleon. And i think that can be boiled down to them looking far more like people in a fur suit than an actual monster standing up. I have mixed feelings with a fair number of recent bipedal starters. Decidueye for example i thought was done really well, both variants, because they are Owls, creatures that do naturally stand on 2 legs when not flying, so their bipedal stance makes sense, and their designs were not overly 'humanized'. By contrast, and from the same generation, Incineroar standing on two legs is frankly jarring to look at. Ignoring its competitive viability and basing my opinion solely on its design, Incineroar looks like just some guy wearing an off brand Tony the Tiger mascot outfit. I do think some more consideration does need to be given by GF when it comes to designing the entire through-line of the starters. If it starts on all fours in its 1st stage and remains on all fours in its 2nd stage, it should probably remain on all fours for its entire line and not suddenly stand up in its 3rd and final stage, as happened with Litten's line, where both Litten and Torracat were on all fours then suddenly stood up straight as Incineroar. Fuecoco has the opposite problem, where Fuecoco and Crocalore are both standing straight up, but Skeledirge ended up on all fours. Obviously this wouldnt always makes sense, as there are some lines that go back and forth. Mudkip, for example, starts on all fours, then stands up on two legs as Marshtop, then goes back to all fours as Swampert, and Cyndaquil does something similar, where as Cyndaquil it has been portrayed as being both on two legs and on four, with its most recent iterations leaning towards standing only on 2, while Quilava has also bounced between the two and most recently landed on all fours, while Typhlosion, both variations, have always been portrayed standing on two legs. Point being, GF should stick to a single standing position for an entire line if the first two stages already share that standing position, and not suddenly decide to stand up right or stand on all fours with the 3rd stage out of nowhere. If the 1st and 2nd stage are both on all fours, the 3rd stage should remain that way. If the 1st and 2nd stage are on two legs, then the 3rd stage should remain that way. If the 1st stage was on all fours but the 2nd stage was on two legs, then the final stage is free to be either, and viceversa.
scarlet and violet is the illusion of open world due to no level scaling and you can't access certain areas without unlocking more abilities for your riding box art pokemon.
I don't think what was brought up debunks sprites being better than the 3D models, if anything it only further proves why Pokemon should have stayed 2D, as there aren't nearly as many complications as there are with 3D models and the sprites can have far more exaggerated and expressive poses, along with generally being easier to make and animate
17:17 Na I said something similar when I first seen him in a magazine at GameStop.. I said about all 3 of the starters. I said well this is the reason why am stop playing Pokemon.. plus I was on my way to go to High school soon and felt it was too childish. I regret that when I went back to watch and play Gen 4 after I graduated high school.
I feel like so many people love infernape because it’s the only new fire type of gen 4. So if you want to use fireC you gotta use it, and then you end up liking it
Here's a few of my hot takes. I don't think scarlet and violet were that bad performance wise. I don't think they have ever made a bad game. I actually like the future paradox mons more than most of the ancient ones.(most of them i think have to much going on in there designs). I also think that diamond/pearl/platinum are overrated.
I think the 2D/3D debate centers on that they went for movement and sacrificed personality in the characters which should not be a mutually exclusive proposition. The colors are washed out and the characters are less expressive, which we can all conclude is disappointing.
For my hot take I’m not the biggest fan of blazken I don’t hate it it’s mostly because I’ve never used one as my starter. Also that infernape take as a fan of the mon I personally don’t see what that person ment by boring. It’s design is striking all three of the gen 4 starters are based on something are infernape you can tell by it’s design that it’s based on son wukong with the yellow goldly bits on it. And also whenever I used infernape it never let me down so hearing this take can of confuses me.

Hot take:Pokémon x and y series is a bit overhyped
"I don't want humanoids i want monsters"
This is the dumbest take i've ever heard because medusa minotaurs and even mothman are still nonsters despite being humanoid
Pokemon fans have no idea what "Monsters" are anymore
I genuinely think the reason the anti-humanoid Pokemon people have such weird and inconsistent views on humanoid Pokemon is an overreaction to the furry crowd that get off on those kinds of designs. Like, just look at Hoops' example of a "good" humanoid Pokemon: Machamp. In what world is that an example of a Pokemon that's different enough from humans that it can no longer be mistaken for humans? It's literally a buff dude in a speedo
@@MoostachedSaiyanPrince Machamp is really the worst when it comes to humanoid pokemon, or "human-like" pokemon.

@@weebmeister-harry Definitely. The hated games don't seems too bad despite it could've been better.

Hell even the most critcized ones like X/Y people are annoyed because they had potential, but were simply left half-baked and seemed rushed.
@@weebmeister-harry Yeah. And Pokemon fans really should chill out, and it's not like Pokemon is going on war on them like Disney did.

Hot take:
Hmmm I don't mind friendship evolution showing that you have a great bond with your Pokemon
Yeah, friendship can be tedious but there are far worse methods to evolve
@Aquageo555
Indeed there are worse methods of evolution. Galar yamask is one of them
20:28 This is the best take.
I'll never understand this take, of course there is still room for improvement but the open world is one of the most exciting directions Pokemon has taken, it offers far more freedom and exploration than ever before and the world feels like an actual world, like I said there's of course room for improvement but that is natural and with the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 I have no doubt that Gen 10 will offer an even better open world to explore with better visuals and (hopefully) less performance issues
Out of all of Nintendo's franchise aside from Zelda, Pokemon makes the most sense to be open world because it is a game where you go on a journey and travel to all sorts of different places as you collect gym battles and meet all kinds of Pokemon and people. A game like this should have as much freedom as possible!

Hot Take: when you critisize Delphox, you NEVER aknoledge it's origins
1. Humanoid and bipedal: all the kalos starters have a theme of RPG characters (who fights mostly by moving arms) So all of them were bound to a bipedal and human-like body. Delphox included.
2. the dress: Delphox being based on a burned witch, a dress is gonna look off even bulky when it's burned
3. the ear-hair. Being based on a witch, witches would use FIRE to look into the future. it would have been MORE awkward if Delphox had fire coming out its ears instead of hair in the shape of campfire. (Note: witch are already ugly anyway, but if look at Mother Mae eye from Teen Titans, She looks worse than delphox)
4: the wand: for all of you complaining that Delphox should have had a staff instead of a wand like Braixen, let me remind you that Witches are KNOWN to use wands. As for your hate when pokemon carrying objects, When you complain about that on Delphox, Delphox only holds that wand when it's doing a move. Delphox's idle animation has Delphox empty handed.
I think Delphox is awesome and I don't know why it gets so much hate
Delphox will always be one of my favorite starters
@@circledude2362 that's how I feel about Quaquaval, it has amazing origins and it's not anymore humanoid than Blaziken. But Delphox is cool too, honestly I at least appreciate every final starter evo
I love Delphox, I just wish they went a little more odee with the design
I know the backstory of Delphox but the execution is horrible. Its poorly executed and just weird AF. There's a reason why so many people hate it. Basically doesn't matter the backstory of a mon. For example would knowing the backstory of alolan raticate? Or sawk/throh? No because the execution FAILS.
Machamp is just a dude with an extra pair of arms. He would probably be the poster child of the cstegory "this pokemon is just a straight up man."
Like little kids being mean to their crushes.
hot take: Fuecoco does not disprove the zodiac theory
a croc is as close to snakes as an echidna is to a rat, so Fuecoco shouldn’t be the starter that flips your opinion as much as people are making it out to be
if Cyndaqill was “close enough” for you pre-gen 9, then Fuecoco is “close enough” now
I avoided bringing up Fennikin cause unlike echidnas and crocodiles, fennec foxes do actually share their order and biological family with dogs, of which the other two break at order into squamata vs crocodilia and rodentia vs monotremata
Ive been saying this since fuecoco was introduced, its always been loose connection anyway so idk why people are so quick to say a crocodile isnt close enuf when quilled mouse or fox is just as far off
Cyndaquil is based on the mythical Chinese fire rat.
And also, I really don’t care about voice acting in Pokemon. They could try it like in Masters, but voice them with my own voices seems more fun TBH.

Found the one cinderace fan.
Alright, here I go:
1. Red, Green, Blue and Yellow are the worst games in the franchise and have aged very badly, so much so that people currently only care about their remakes;
2. Johto has the worst dex introduced in the franchise, apart from Ampharos, Tyranitar and the starters, no pokemon introduced in this generation has the design or stats to say "This is a final stage pokemon";
3. Red from the games (canon) is the most overrated character in the franchise, as he is said to be the "strongest trainer in history" by the fanbase, when, in his fight, he has a bad team loaded with high lvl (who puts a Pikachu at lvl 90 almost, bro?);
You're definitely born after 2000
@mattbates2340 1997, first game: Gold/Crystal.
I do love samurott and serperior
@@peterpaoliMMR
The funny thing is that Samurott, along with Typhlosion, Swampert and Rillaboom, are the only starters in the franchise that assume both a bipedal and quadrupedal stance, but in the case of Samurott, it is said in some media (game Freak employee interviews that worked with design, for example) that he assumes his bipedal posture, in tough battles, or when he is wielding his swords.
My opinion on the starter hot take is that:
Starter designs have proved to be way more successful when they're like characters, rather than when they look like just animals with an element type sticked to them.
@timothyallen1345
First of all, pokemon are not literally pets. It's more complex than that. And second of all:
Quadruped starters are literally an example of the opposite.
@timothyallen1345
Please, just looking at the franchise itself quadruped designs like venasaur are clearly way less expressive and able to move than bipedal designs like Politoed, Poliwrath or even Bellibolt. You may enjoy quadruped designs but don't fool yourself. They're definitely less popular, less practical for movement and expressions, have way less personality as they evolve and overall they're not better as a whole.

There are plenty of NPCs you can actually talk to.
I think if it was limited to cutscenes it would be perfect
I can already imagine the annoyance of hearing random npc 203 say their line of proximity dialogue every time you walk past them because they happen to stand close enough to a spot you have to travel often
Yeah....and the Pikachu AND Eevee voices have since gone back to their original cries.
Hot take: We should be able to use mythical pokemon in competitive battles.
- I love all of the Violet Paradoxes and most of the Scarlet ones
- Flutter Mane can not only handle having a lower BST than its fellow Paradoxes, it actively deserves it, although partially because it's my least favorite Pokémon
- I also don't like Zacian for similar reasons, but I do also like Iron Bundle and Regieleki, also for similar reasons, competitive usage exaggerates my pre-existing feelings for certain Pokémon

Nice to see a fellow regi enjoyer 😄

My hot takes:
Mewtwo Strikes Back is one of the most overrated movies I’ve ever watched in my life.

@crimsonemperor2219 there are like 5 pokemon better than trubbish
@@Bushido-road Agree. Ash just got too excited about going to another country and let his guard down.
Hot take: I love the future Paradox Pokémon WAY more than the past Paradox Pokémon. I just think robots are cool. I also don't mind that they all have "Iron" in their names, and that their shiny colours are all chrome.
Same
I somewhat agree but I still prefer the past paradoxes.
Hot take: Infernape is the best pokemon made
Me: well you're right but...your fine your fine
Yea he his he my second favorite
Holy clickbait, that infernape thumbnail made me click before I registered the title, the youtube, or anything. Literally seconds into youtube and bam

Hot take: the best pokemon games werent even made by game freak
BDSP👀
@thewarrior8497 lmaoo i was thinking more colosseum and gale of darkness
Hot Take: I don't hate Ambipom
I'm with you there, aipom was such a good design only for it's evolution to look so.... wrong. It's one of the pokémon I'd hate to evolve
Same I agree...even sunflora
My other hot take. Fans are to blame for Gamefreaks lack of innovation. We bitch and complain but end up buying a broken, rushed and out of date product. If we want a change then well you know what we have to do. But we all know we wont. We have more power than we realize and definitely dictate GFs direction if sales are impacted.
Hot take: BDSP isn’t the worst Pokemon game, nor the worst looking.
(And also, Cynthia is overrated.)
I agree
I actually really like BDSP
And that says a lot cus I don’t really like Sinnoh that much
I think it’s the worst pokemon region
And another hot take
Chimchar is the worst pokemon in my opinion
I just don’t like it
@@typlaz643 Glad to hear that, even when I disagreed with a few of it. And I also dislike how their champion is seen like a god by the community.
@@BergmitetheBlueandPointy0712 true

Imagine if we finally get voice acting and the first character it gets utilized for is Red
And he just says "words are unnecessary" like in Masters
My hot take When it comes to the debates on how the older pokemon games were harder then the new one is just confusing
A big fix for 3D would be saturating the colors. The colors are super desaturated
That thumbnail got me for a second ! ☠️
My take regarding 2D vs 3D pokemon games:
No disrespect to the 2D/2.5 era of the pokemon games but:
I think 3D is much better.
Hot take:
I feel like the player’s decisions should affect the game’s story in ways that vary from minor to big.
Hot take: Pidgeot is the worst regional bird, and the evolution line is boring and uncreative, even more so than what people say about the Pawmi line
Absolutely agree. It's lucky it's the first one, if it wasn't, it would probably get so much hate.
Mmmhmmm yeah you hit me like a truck 😂😂😂
In my own persy opinion, there's a huuuuuge difference between a Lucario or Hitmonlee and a Cinderace or Meowscarada.
Hot Take: Iron Leaves is the worst Pokemon ever made
Even over Luvdisc? It not evolving into Alomomola is easily one of the biggest missteps in the franchise. I genuinely believe what could’ve happened was they probably planned for it to evolve that way, but didn’t want to set up the notion for more previous Gen evolutions in Gen 5 instead of just the one. This is all just a hunch though.
I’m nit sure that much of a hot take most of the violet paradoxes mons are pretty bland the only ones that look good or at least decent are iron thorns trends and moth. Of course have iron valiant who is an example of good violet paradox mon.

These were nice to see and take into consideration! Helps you think your opinions and what other people like!
My first Pokemon game was Sword so I have always liked the 3d games.

Ok fellas, which has voice acting?
A) a DS game on a console that was getting old at the time
B) a modern game on modern console by the biggest franchise in the 2nd most popular game in said franchise.
5:03 yea and what’s more monstrous than a human you have seen how evil humans can be
So darkNWindie was onto something
The whole bipedal thing is a mix bag
If a starter is on all 4s then go bipedal randomly like Sprigitto or Litten, thats my gripe
STAY ON ALL 4S
Now like Cinderace and Intelon make sense and not that big since they started bipedal but they could use some more monsterous elements
I think with Furrys being more mainstream doesnt help
Not hating on the furry community, but im partly blaming them because the fursuits look good
100% agree with you but I don’t hate incineroar.
@THGMR-ox7sd oh I don't hate any of the starters
I just used Litten as my example because I know that was a big complaint back when Gen7 came out
And yea it would be hard to add in more monstrous features and keep the original theme of the mod
Maybe something for a Legends game or even a paradox form if those ever come back
Hot take Pokémon let’s go had something solid. The original games re-explored while also making the games feel more like the indigo league series. Just flying around kanto on the back of my Charizard.
here's my hot take:
Gen 3 is the worst generation
it's just bland, Ruby/Sapphire and FireRed/LeafGreen have no personality, I mean they kinda do, but it's just not fleshed out enough, and it all feels hollow, Hoenn just kinda feels like Kanto 2.0 and Kanto just feels the same, minus the random Johto and Hoenn content.
@@BJGvideos That’s why I think Ghetsis should have shown a backstory. He shouldn’t be pure evil TBH.

@@BJGvideos Got it ? Though what should Ghetsis be like then ?
Pet peeve: no new eeveelutions 😔
Here's my other hottake is that pokemon won't go mature levels and stay kid friendly I know some people go like "THAT'S TOO KID FRIENDLY WHERE'S THE EDGY STUFF" we know but you can make creative stories even it still stays at kid friendly like how SV has an amazing story and SM have a creative and unique story you can even add dark tones to it that makes people go like...i thought it's for everyone like how mostly pokemon have creepy Dex entries you can make it still be kid friendly but added dark moments make it scary and why you ask? Well if it did...pokemon will lost it's population and I'm glad it's still kid friendly and lovable series I've thank for
Things can be mature and be kid friendly.
Orian and Hoops. Infernape is my favorite Pokemon of all time. And you two just became my two biggest opps

Hot take: Delphox is no worse than any other humanoid -mon's (I'm thinking Blastoise as a -mon I think is mid). I wish Delphox was better as a fighter, but a fire fox witch with a stick wand is nicely balanced between humanoid, and I could see it in the wild.
"Pokemon should be monsters."
Two things:
Hot take: fakemon are why we haven't seen a new eeveelution
Edit: and likely why we never will... not unless pokemon creators ever lose their fear of using fan designs
They should put online pokemon racing, golf and other mini games in the main games
Hot Take: Not having a father in Pokémon games should be optional, like choosing boy/girl
*and do you reside with your father, mother, or both?*
I feel like so many people love infernape because it’s the only new fire type of gen 4. So if you want to use fireC you gotta use it, and then you end up liking it
THERE WAS MORE VOICE ACTING IN B2W2 THAN THE REST OF THE SERIES COMBINED!!
In this economy, with inflation in the form of power creep, most starters need at least 20-30 ovr buff to be viable
