I love weepinbell, but it's not my favorite. Don't understand why it's so low. It fulfills all the standards of the ones at the top. It's probably in my top 1/4
Really glad to see Floragato so high. My top 3 favourite middle starter evo. I guess, that it was not only received well from the beginning, but Horizons also added some popularity, because I love Liko's Floragato and its personality
I'll always rep Brionne as not just my favorite middle stage design, but maybe my favorite Pokemon design period. I especially love it's pupils being that shade of pink. So entrancing. And it's the perfect shade of blue, a little lighter than Popplio or Primarina's tail. It's also just more expressive in a way I love. Popplio seems like it's *trying* to be happy, and Primarina is a little too mature and elegant, but Brionne is just having a blast in every moment, and I love that energy.
You talk about people 'hating' the lower pokemon on the list but if I remember correctly there was no option to choose which evos you actively dislike in the pole. so it may be more ambivolence than 'hate'
@@runningoncylinders3829I mean, Primape got an evolution in the same gen, while being 3 gens older, but being honest, is harder to forget about Annihilape than Kingambit
I feel like bisharp, Primeape and Ursaring are in a category where they aren't the same as Other Middle Stages, others are to bridge gaps, these and some others were made as final evolutions and the designers realized they had potential foe another evolution
I’m one of those people who like both Braixen and Delphox a lot, but ends up loving Braixen just a bit more. The design feels more fun and cute with it being a witch in training compared to the cool full on mage
Legends Arceus actually made me like Cascoon and Silcoon a little bit. The way they approach you in the wild and run circles around you is just adorable. Also, Silcoon has a lovely shiny
My favorite Pokemon of all time is Ampharos and that is the end of a 3 stage evolutionary line so Flaaffy being where it is makes sense with my fantasy
My takeaway from this are: 1. Pokemon who were at some point the final evos, with evos added later, generally rank higer because they already feel "complete" as they previously were. 2. Trade evos also generally rank higher because they also feel complete even without evolving 3. Starters are generally loved/hated as they are designed to be memorable and likeable from 1st to the final stage, and its a hit or miss.
I'm glad my boy Torracat at least made it to the Top 20 ^^, but i'm sad that Quaxwell is more unpopular than Quiladin and Pignite. I feel like one of the few fans who actually likes Quaxwell .w.
I love Quaxwell, but it could be because Quaquaval is my 4th favorite Pokemon of all time. Still, I don't see anything wrong with Quaxwell at all, its a great transitional stage
I was suprised, but happy to see both Floragato and Dewott so high. I feel like they are usually around the middle of the list whenever I see people ranking their favorite starter middle evolutions. They are my two favorite middle evolution starters, and the only two where I prefer the middle stage over the first or final pokemon in the line.
weird i always see them in the top of the list and was expecting to see them again, in fact i am a bit sad they werent in the top 2 positions given they are my favs.
I loveeee the poll video's! My take on some stuff: Where was Ivysaur? Did I miss it? Lampent being 10 is craaaazy to me. I definitely expected Vigoroth, Rhydon, Jigglypuff, Clefairy to be higher. Poor Pawmo, you'll allways be loved in my heart
19:40 I'm still super confused how wolfey put the obstahoon line in 5th worse pokemon ever. He said it ruined linoone, but it's an entirely different pokemon and I prefer it to the original anyway
I am not surprised to see Grovyle so high. It would have also not surprised me if it actually won. That Pokémon gained a lot of fans because of PMD2 and the anime. The Grovyle in PMD2 is also the main reason why Sceptile is my favorite Pokémon.
Before watching, I just wanna say that my personal favorite is Haunter, and I like it way more than Gengar Edit: 7:46 I forgot abou this for a moment, THIS is my least favorite of the list... It's my least favorite of ALL pokemon, if I could erase 1 pokemon from existance, it would be this thing, the rest of the line I don't really have that much care for, but the middle stage? I use to cover the screen when it appeard in Black, no kidding
I think Gengar losing the detached hands is definitely a downgrade. Then they took Levitate away and Gengar is just there for the better stats (and Haunter's relevant stats aren't even terrible).
@@mr.sandman7339 Exactly, I would love it if they gave Haunter a split evo into something more leaning towards it, with the floating hands and edges, and Gengar kinda looses the gas theme, at least in the static design
I love that within the first minute, you showed Boldore & Gloom back-to-back! I always Eviolite those 2 and never evolve 'em (the ones in the party, anyway). They were among my most beloved 'mons from my first Shield playthrough.
Pignite is my favorite middle stage evolution and one of my top 10 favorite Pokémon of all time. I love him so much because of the Black and White seasons of the anime and just how cool I think it looks when it's battling.

I wouldn't mind a convergent evolution for Haunter were it stays more to the Haunter design and goes more evil then just mischievous. I had the thought of a poison/dark type of pure malice with the name of Wrancor based off Wrath and Rancor. It could keep the levitate ability or go full offensive with merciless. The other thought was a paradox type that had the opposite stats of Fluttermane where its hp attack and defense are all 135 with a custom move that's basically poison sucker punch if they use a non attacking move.

I'll admit, when I did the questionnaire, my philosophy for middle stages is "if they overshadow the final evo they failed as a middle stage" so objectively my favorite gen 1 dragon (dragonair) is a bad middle evo by that metric. The ones I picked as "good middle evos" were ones I thought were the perfect balance of beginning and end, and the "best mon in its line" list was sort of a spot of shame (despite some of them being peak designs on their own. Looking at you, haunter, grovyle, dragonair, etc)
So Fun Fact about me, of all the Pokemon Generations we have, 4 of them that are my favorites in their respective regions are middle stages, Those Pokemon are, [ Kanto: Pikachu ] [ Johto: Quilava ] [ Unova: Servine and Dewott ] and [ Alola: Torracat ]
Dewott is my favorite water type and the only one out of its line that I really like. Unlike a lot of other starters, I'd like Samurott more if it was bipedal. Hattrem, Morgrem, Bisharp, Raboot, and Piloswine are more of my favorites. And shoutout to Shiny Fraxure for being one of the top shinies along with his dad, Haxorus.
I love grovyle, but originally I hated it. My mind changed when I played Pokémon mystery dungeon explorers of darkness where I literally cried over the grovyle character. Glad it's so high on the list!
Hearing just how many people think Dragonair is better than Dragonite really drilled home to me how many people would appreciate a regional variant or convergent line that ends with a pokemon that is more cohesive with the rest of the Dratini line, keeping the graceful and serpentine form of Dratini and Dragonair, rather than the goofy and friendly western cartoon dragon that is Dragonite. I'll have to try drawing one later. It would also open up the idea of regional or convergent pseudo legendaries to fans, as well as give back the chance to have multiple pseudo legend lines native to a region like Hoenn did.
For some reason I just really freakin love Florgato n Torracat- Torracat has lucky/beckoning cat vibes with the bell, and is just a REALLY good pokémon-cat design, and Florgato with the badass yoyo-flower-broach and the cool-cat personality!! :) I will say, however, that meowscarada is a MUCH better final evolution design than Incineroar, especially since Incineroar just looks like Team Flare's Lysandre merged with a strong man and a tiger- (and this is why Popplio was my Sun&Moon starter-)
My top middle stage is definitely Wartortle with Gloom just slightly behind. I just love Wartortle's ears and fluffy tail. It's a shame that Blastoise didn't have a more cloudy appearance, I would have liked it a lot more if it was a bit more than a turtle with cannons.
I already know this will be a controversial video, with lots of people complaining in the comments, having a different *opinion* 😅 So far I think the list is quite nice, especially since I prefer Dewot, Floragato and especially Quilava over their finale stage evolutions. Absolutely wild to me that Braixen didn't hit top 10. I would've expected it to be top 5, or even top 3. I know it's my favorite out of everything on this list.
I’m one of the PMD voters; Gurder and Nuzleaf are two of the most fascinating characters, just not as “please add to Smash Bros” as Grovyle. I forgot who I put on top, but it was likely Grovyle because I didn’t think Dragonair would need my help. Maybe I should have picked Floette.
My favorite mid stages, not many good ones in my opinion but i can think of a few i really like. Dragonair, Bayleef, Quilava, Croconaw, Flaffy, Marshtomp, Lairon, Tinkatuff.
Another thing that may play into the ranking is the mystery dungeon games: Reptain for example has gained a lot of popularity, where loudred might've lost some due to their roles in pmd exploration team sky. Similarly, That is a personal reason I dislike Nuzleaf, its role in PMSD was greatly executed, but it definetly isn't a pokemon I'd trust with items of worth.
