Honestly, yeah you found a lot of cool stuff, but Daddo the Unown should be cherished FOREVER. That is so heartwarming.
Yeah he should transfer it up to s&v and completely max it
@@ChromaWRLD999 Unown isn't in SV lol
As someone who had it happen to me a month and a half ago, losing your father hurts.
Honestly, I feel like it'd be fun to have it on a team, and enter the world championship, just to see what the outcome could be lol
@@mariosin3256 hope you're doing okay friend
Having Pokémon Box is quite impressive since it is one of the most rare GameCube games ever usually being a few hundred dollars so it’s quite a feat just to have it
A few hundred is an understatement, more like $1000 game
Even more so if you have that Red and Blue memory card.
@@hawkdeltaX30 Yeah, that makes sense. I haven’t checked the pricing in at least a year so I didn’t fully remember. Also definitely for the red and blue memory card.
absolutely love my copy
Lol what? I bought the PAL version for like $80 on an auction site. Is the NTSC version really that expensive?
Mike, i’m sorry to hear about your father. He would be overwhelmingly proud of the man you’ve become. You are easily one of my favorite Pokemon TH-camrs, and I look forward to continuing to support you.

Why did you censor yourself on the word “ass”? Lol
Incredible journalism & story telling! What a nostalgia trip! Always wanted to be a dragon trainer like Lance growing up so that OT was definitely me 🤣
Did not expect the Unknown. This video hit harder than expected, props for the authenticity Mikey. Glad to still have you as my best friend & brother after all these years 💪🏼
Love you brother
This is so wholesome oh my goodness. Just two bros being bros. I hope my kids get along as well.
May I know if there was a story behind naming wynaut a asshole?
As someone who lost a family member at a young age, such a thing can just randomly trigger strong emotions, positive or negative. I hope you two could indulge in the positive ones and get through the negative ones
@@WarGodV_cuz wynaut
You mentioning the pokemon named after your dad broke my heart. My first ever Shiny was a Drifloon that my brother caught for me in Soul Silver. I thought I lost that cartridge and I was so worried about it. I named it "Tom's Shiny" after him. Several years after he passed away, I was cleaning up an box in the basement and found my old system, with Soul Silver still in it. And there it was...Tom's Shiny. It's followed me ever since.
Drifloon takes children to the afterlife, but I assure you that Tom's Shiny will bless you with happiness only to be lapsed by bittersweet but knowing memories of your brother.
did you transfer it to newer games
Oh yeah! Recently, I just finished the Pokedex for Violet, and when I found the secret Miraidon, I suddenly had a thought and named it Munda after my Grandma who recently passed from old age. When I showed it to my dad, he teared up so we both sat together for a while reminiscing about the good times we had with her.
@@bobandmrmecaleb5873 that is somehow very heart breaking and heart warming
Goddamnit man I didn’t expect to be crying!🥹
The story with mike’s dad hits really close to me since my dad died in February 2005 right before emeralds came out and I was 11, and my mom got me emerald to help me cope.
You hit me with the feels mikey, but in a good way
Don't forget, Steve Irwin, Bindi's father also passed away in 2006, the same year Michael Groth's father died.
I dont know what I find more impressive; your journey following this long list of clues to discover the origins of these Pokemon, or your ability to remember it all and produce this awesome video about it.
i find it more impressive that the miltank took a masterball to catch
This video is such a trip down memory lane for any of us that played Pokémon in our younger years. Gosh, those GBC, SP, GBA, etc. eras were timeless!
If you ever have kids in the future, you can show them that it's possible to take what you love and make it into a career because you are truly a living example of that!
Keep up the great content Mikey!
Indeed, I saw this post where a 80 year old was playing Pokemon Go! Pokemon truly has no boundries

I've been watching this channel since like 2016, and I think that this is absolutely my favorite video. I've been thinking about it for days since I watched it, it was so emotional and I could feel the passion that went into making it!!!
it's so wholesome that you named an unkown "daddo" and then transported that to your switch to keep the memories. may the memories bloom.
This is interesting. I love how it feels like an Unsolved Mysteries series. The fact your Unown D was named Daddo made me think of my Grandmother, who passed away in April. Thank you for making this video.

I legit teared up when you talked about Daddo. It's a beautiful sentiment and a cherished reminder of someone very special. Bet he would be super proud of you now.
its both depressing and heartwarming at the same time 🥲
Whenever the name “Daddo” was flashed on my screen with sad music playing, I immediately knew the whole story. I also lost my father at a young age, so seeing this immediately brought me to tears. I hope you can keep Daddo with you forever Mikey
Mike, thank you for sharing both this really fun video and telling us about your dad. I lost my mum in 2008 at age 15, hearing your story of finding those little impacts your dad had on your life made me both tear up and smile a bit.
The Unown D being named Daddo along with your story about your dad made me tear up a little.
Also, it's rather fitting that you have a Miltank in a Master Ball. The best ball for the best pokemon. Wouldn't you agree, Mikey? :)
Nah
The M on the Master Ball stands for Miltank. It all makes sense.

The oldest known Pokemon I still have is my Infernape named Chimmy from my first Pearl save file. At first, I thought I had lost him forever when I checked Pearl and found a brand new file with new Pokemon. But, somehow, Chimmy ended up in one of my Black and White games; so now he is resting comfortably in Shining Pearl, right where he belongs.
A nice little tip to help folks distinguish purified Pokémon from XD from regular Pokémon.
In XD, Shadow Pokémon that you purified would get “purified moves”, which are moves that you can only obtain via purification:
- Examples include Refresh Magneton, Follow Me Magmar(which was actually used in a VGC once btw), Psycho Boost Lugia(yeah, Shadow Lugia when purified gets Deoxys’s signature move), etc.
This was one hell of a journey, Mikey! Only you can turn an old "save file exploration" video into something this amazing to watch... and also so wholesome! 😮
It's really neat how 20+ year old Pokemon can still be used even in current games
Unless Dexit means they're not in a specific game, at least.
@@gengarzilla1685 let it go man.
I actually have a Kyogre from an Emerald cartridge I bought from this used game store before it went out of business in my Violet game right now. The OT is Ricario, a combination of my real life name Richard, and Lucario, a Pokemon I find to be pretty cool.

Okay, but now you have to transfer Dairang into Pokémon Home, breed it for a Miltank egg, and then use the resulting Miltank for your Miltank Solo run.
Or at least transfer it to the generation that he’s planning on doing the run in, but yes, Dairang should be the parent.

Same. I wasn't nearly as young when I lost my Dad, but stuff like that always makes me cry.
same I lost my dad about a year ago and I was only 12 at the time
This might sound strange but you can tell how different the tone of voice he has in this video. Those games mean a lot to him.
11:08 did not expect this
Man, uncovering old bits of one's personal history like this can certainly be something.
ok
true
Wouldn’t be surprised if the reason the Miltank is in a masterball is because of Colosseum’s master ball glitch, where because of the double battle format you could essentially use an unlimited number of master balls.
It's funny enough not that useful for Colosseum specifically due to how late you get the Masterball, unless you were failing all the pokemon captures before then.
Again, since there's no wild pokemon either unlike XD's at least small pool of them.
I FORGOT ABOUT THAT! I remember using that at some point, so there's a high chance the Miltank was caught using that
@@MandJTV You should breed that Miltank for you Miltank only playthrough so the Pokémon you use has a Masterball as its ball.

I feel you there. I had a friend who was like a brother to me pass away a few years back.
So recently I decided to go through all my old save files and transfer up all those pokemon into bank and stumbled across two pokemon I remembered he gave me from pokemon XD, a Magmar (now Magmortar), and an Electabuzz (now Electivire) with his name and ID, and I'm making sure I don't lose them.
Yeah that hit me in the feels..
one of my shinies is named after my best friend. i had only just met her, and it was the time of my life. a few years later, she committed suicide, and it broke my heart. i recently stumbled upon it again and it made me smile
Have to give it to you - your storytelling skills have improved and become stellar. I watched a 30 minute video of a pokéboomer rambling on about old pokés in some cartridge and was entertained and thrilled all the way through!
Pokeboomer is a thing now 0_o? I guess that makes me one too, seeing as I still have all my OT game files from as far back and Red, Blue and Yellow in 1998...which has an event Mew on Yellow that I can't get off it.
@@animeangel1983 I didn't think I'd need to explain this here, but ok...
No, Pokéboomer isn't a word. It's not a slur or anything.
It very obviously was just a playful jab at old people (who are e.g. of the boomer generation) stereotypically liking to ramble on about who knows what to the boredom of their children, and Mikey being such a talented storyteller that even "such ramblings" were entertaining to listening to, considering how many of the games he talks about are 15 years or older.
I played since gold and silver and thus am a bigger "pokéboomer" than Mikey, but that wasn't the point.
@@youtube-kit9450 I had never heard that term before, I'm a cusp Gen X-Millennial born in 1983. Though I do feel old at 40 since my first games where Red, Blue and Yellow that I played when I was already 15, way beyond the age group it was meant for.
@@youtube-kit9450lol you seem to be taking their comment more seriously than they did with your seemingly annoyed explanation that felt the need to mention that “Pokéboomer” isn’t a slur.
I don’t think they were offended at all, but something tells me that you feel like they were :|
Oh god, if Mikey is a pokeboomer, what does that make me? My first game was pokemon yellow😮
...why isn't it possible to hug a man through the internet? I'm so glad you found Daddo again Mikey!
That Magenton Polzo is likely actually from Pokemon XD Gale of Darkness as it has a ribbon, is obtainable in that game, and, most telling, knows the move refresh which is a common move given to pokémon when they are purified. The OT being Michael in all caps is likely because that's the main characters Canon name and would've been all caps by default.
Edit: Commented this in the middle before you revealed it at the end 😅
23:07 all the other pokemons on the box:
MICHEAL DON'T LEAVE ME HERE!! MICHEAL!!

This video was so dramatic and so well made. The suspenseful music, paired with the dramatic stuff Mikey was saying made it such a great watch and genuinely gave me chills.

I gotta admit I almost cried during this video. The investigative journey was impressive, and all the nostalgia and emotion combined with the amazing storytelling were just so moving. I'm very happy that you got to drive down this memory lane and that you shared it with us !
Gotta love how Mikey’s storytelling has been recently. From Fuse, to Nightsky Mikey, to this! Since Pokémon Box has a storage limit of 1500, I decided to check how many times you could store the entire Gen 3 Pokédex (386) within it. The answer is about 3.88 times, with a remainder of 44 Pokémon that you could store back in the GBA cartridge. Pretty impressive for 2004.
@mandjtv I'm so sorry for your loss. I almost teared up because that must have been so special for you to find that Pokémon
This has got to be the single coolest video I've ever watched on ur channel! As a lifelong pokefan who's unfortunately lost all my old games and cartridges, I can only imagine how extremely satisfying and nostalgic it must've felt to rediscover lost pieces of ur childhood. Also that part about ur dad... made me a bit emotional...
The Daddo story hit my right in the feels. I hope that Pokemon never disappears
This is heartwarming. The pokemon series is unique in that your partner monsters can be kept forever. As a father, I assure you the Daddo would be touched his kid named a pokemon for him. Love is in these small moments and gestures. Thanks for sharing your history.
Watching this while tired and high. And so far I’m finding this video to be super interesting. Mainly because it feels like Michael is being a Pokémon researcher or Sherlock homes using deductive reasoning to find out minute details about a Pokémon. It’s wild that he can know so much just from the OT name, game name, and ID of the trainer.
I've seen plenty of "exploring old saves" types of videos and this is no contest that it is the most compelling and fun narrative with the significance of the finds and the deep investigation.
Anyone else tearing up at 'Daddo'? Because I know I am! (I lost my dad when I really young too so I know you're pain Mikey). I do love that you transferred the Unown to Home. So sweet!
I was, crying inside. It's sad to loose relatives. Loosing parents, isn't easy. I've lost uncles and at least one grandparent, over the years.
I know both your pains plus I named ghost type Pokémon Jason my dads name
This video really played well with the mystery vibe. My heart really froze with suspense with each development and revelation
15:00 "I can't be 100% certain" means it's not 100%. Thus you are in fact 50% certain
11:06 “it’s enough to make a grown man cry, and that’s okay.”
Never thought I would be emotional over an Unown 🥺
What a cool video, I can’t imagine what it was like going through and finding all these things
I managed to hold on to the Blaziken from my first ever playthrough, so I still have my real-life starter Pokémon. She's always the first thing I pull out of Home when I need a high-level team.
The Daddo find is best. Love it. My dad passed 2 years ago and I cherish everything I find from the past involving him
The story about the Mew is sending me down the BIGGEST rabbit hole trying to figure out why the OT of it is NYC. It's so fucking hard to find info on GameShark now though
This is so fun to watch! It's fun deducting where Pokemon came from based on clues like ID, game exclusivity, ribbons, etc. I loved watching this!
The talk about your dad really had me crying, I'm sure he rests happily knowing he has such an awesome son ❤
As a child, I wish I retained my original Pokémon from my first playthroughs but alas I always started new game out of boredom lol. However, I did manage to send all my Pokémon up to Home from Gen 3 upwards. Have all my Colosseum and XD Pokémon too, which are my favorite spin-off games and Pokémon games in general. Loved your Daddo Unown and that touched my heart, such an amazing sentiment. ♥️
We now know that Mikey used a master ball to catch a milktank. He definitely loves it
14:10
Correction - in Colosseum, Shadow Pokemon have different catch rates than in the main series. Fe.: Nascour's Metagross has a catch rate of 15, and so have all three of Legendary Beasts.
The lowest catch rate of all Shadow Pokemon in Colosseum belongs to Evice's Tyranitar, with catch rate of 10.
Daddo the Unown truly shattered my heart. I lost my sister Debbie in 2021 and there are so many comparable moments I’ve had - that, and she was my favourite gaming partner to boot. A random example is that she used to play Monster Prom with me and read it out in silly voices and my partner and I have done the same recently because it makes me so happy. Thank you so much for sharing that moment with us, buddy - I know what a bittersweet feeling it is. 💖💖💖
When you talked about your dad in the Daddo entry it made me cry cuz fathers day is within 2 days but rest assured hes looking down
What an awesome video! Got me stupidly nostalgic. I think I have my old copy of gold still somewhere but I never really traded mine up outside putting some into Pokémon Stadium 1&2 (which I still own so maybe some are still there). Nowadays I keep a list of all my names and such because my memory is trash. So interesting to find out what crazy stuff we did as kids though. I only wish our memories were more reliable lol.
11:24 is so sad :( It reminds me of my mom passing away when I was eight, 1 week before my birthday and communion
Not gonna lie, you talking about naming your Pokemon after your dad made me tear up. I lost my dad just shy of 9 years ago and my son, who's now 19, still names his Snorlax "Pop-Pop" or "Meathead" (a nickname they had for each other) to this day.
11: 28 do you really think your dad even knows what an arcanine is, Michael?!?!
I respect you for naming unown after your dad. He probably was the best member of team sky
This is one of your best videos yet!
I loved the suspense and mystery feeling as you went for each box and discovered an unusual or weird pokémon. Really great!
Will be rewatching this for quite some time.
As a historian AND a nerd I very much enjoy this video! I applaud your research gathering skills!
14:23 that pokemon game has a glitch where you can get infinite balls so once you get the master ball you can just use that ball over and over. It’s super easy to pull off and I’d highly recommend just doing that
Michael, i just wanna say thank you for telling us the story about your Dad and the Unknown D. I have not lost my parents, however, my grandma and grandpa passed away about 2 years ago when I was 16. Those were the very first family members to pass away whom I was close too. And i just wanna say, on behalf of the Pokéfans, we are here for you ❤
What a wild video. I had the exact same experience when I dug up some of my oldest games recently. It’s surreal to look back though them and rediscover bits of your younger self.
I’m so glad you managed to recover some of these extra special Pokemon. I’m sure you’ll treasure them for many years to come, especially Daddo ❤
Don't some shadow Pokemon come back in Coliseum later if you knock them out instead of capturing them on your first try? Maybe that happened with Suicune, so that's why Baby Mickey named it Hydro2.
I was thinking H2O
honestly dispite the Mew being hacked, it's a relic of a by-gone age of game hacks. it has a history, and you should preserve as many of these pokemon as possible (especially the sentimental ones)
I can speak from experience, finding a lost game/data you have been searching for, for so long is one of the greatest experiences you will ever have
Please hold on to that Daddo Unown, treasure it. That is an amazing story and made me tear up a bit .. ❤
I love this idea....what a trip down memory lane....My first game was also in the Hoenn region, ALSO with Ruby funnily enough. And I've gotten every game since then.
And in all my years of playing, the ONLY time I got a full odds random shiny, was in Pokemon Sword, with GMax Grimmsnarl. I nearly threw my Switch in shock. He's safely in Home where he will stay.
I loved your story for the Unknown, it was super touching :) ... that wynaut got the best name ever too
After transferring everything I had from Bank to Home, I found a single Pokemon I had left from my oldest playthrough and it was a Mewtwo. It now is in my Violet game with the "Living Legend" ribbon from me moving it from Fire Red to Soul Silver and beating Red with it. Surprisingly I was able to name it in Violet so I called it "Silver" for the battle it had on Mount Silver. I am sad my other Pokemon never made it, but at least I have a very special one from way back then ^^
The fact it took almost two minutes for Mikey to say "Greetings", I thought "Oh this sounds serious..."
I am super glad I transferred all the Pokémon in my Alola save files to Home, cause I have incredible memories with them. Got a lot of legends, mythical, ultra beasts, and most definitely hacked shinies, but they've helped me a lot. However, I will say, with a shiny Spearow was the one shiny I failed to catch in Alola, Mikey having his is a bit frustrating, but it's not that great-looking of a shiny anyway, so I'll look past it.
I still have my first ever pokémon, a Sceptile named BLADE. I'm waiting for him to be able to go to Scarlet and Violet but I love that I've kept him on this journey for so long.
My dad passed in 2007 when I was 17 I had no idea we had this in common, just one more reason to love your channel. 🖤
Please cherish Daddo the Unown. Those associated memories make it perhaps even more precious than the Shiny Fearow, in retrospect.
I legit shed a few tears that you dad passed and you named a Pokémon after him
Growing up, I was very attached to my Pokémon. I desired that they travel throughout the games with me, so as soon as I discovered the transfer feature from Gen 3 games into Diamond and Pearl, I jumped....the pattern continued as more games came out. I'm proud to say that I still have first 2 level 100s from my very first Sapphire Save File. A Blaziken and a Kyogre. They are safe in Pokémon Home.
I love when Mikey uploads. It always makes my day that much better
i lost my diamond copy to action replay. however, my parents were getting rid of our childhood couches. i new there was stuff underneath them in the fabric undersides. ripped them open only to find my copy of platinum that had been missing for over a decade. i dove in and found all my original pokémon from my first ever emerald playthrough.
Wasn't expecting to cry watching this, but here we are. RIP Daddo
It's so cool to discover old Pokemon, I wish I could do that... My first Pokemon game was Moon, and I gifted both the game and the 3ds itself to a friend, I never had Pokemon Bank and I know he wiped the save file to start his own
14:12 Micheal if you use turn 1 to select a Pokeball to throw and turn 2 to swap that Pokeballs position in your bag, it duplicates that Pokeball. It works on ALL Pokeballs, including the Master Ball
