For scenarios like these, I feel like the anime is the best source of how big these towns and cities can be, especially given the programming limitations he mentioned at the beginning. Also, it's been a somewhat popular theory that the tiny depictions of the towns in the games are because we are seeing them through the narrow world view of the player character, a child pokemon trainer. They would probably only perceive the more important locations and buildings for them: gyms for league badges, pokemon centers for healing, poke marts for buying health items and pokeballs. Plus a few other places for important items and npc info that is purely on the game side. Would also explain why, up until like gen 5, we never saw actual roads in these regions. Like, where did your moving van come from in gen 3? And how do any of these npcs travel to other locations without huffing it through the woods on foot for several days? I'm sure there plenty of holes in this, but hey, it's just a theory.

They actually did something interesting for Sword and Shield. Chairman Rose is the head villain and most of the rest of the league representatives have to follow his command. Even Leon, the champion before the player, is given a lot of trouble for delaying or outright saying no to obeying corrupt orders. It was an interesting change from the typical evil team. But that does mean I'd be skeptical about living ANYWHERE in Galar.
I'm personally very glad that Geeta from Scarlet and Violet is not another corrupt executive repeat, because I thought Rose was a clunky and badly written villain. Pokémon needs to drop this twist villain rubbish because that bollocks doesn't work without good storytelling. It only works in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon.
You know it never occured to me that Po Town was forcibly taken over. I assumed that it was abandoned for whatever reason and then Team Skull took it over, denying it from its new legal owner. But I think offical lore allows either version
@@thegreatbeavers I assume you mean Pu’uhonua o Waianae. That was the only thing about Waianae that resembles Po Town. And yeah, Po Town being a homeless encampment making the use of abandoned buildings makes sense. It also adds more depth to Team Skull's whole "we're only pretending to be evil" thing and would be consistent with Plumeria's characterization in Masters. It's just a mess because Team Skull aren't going to be that competent of community organizers. Also while Po comes from Hawaiian for darkness and Pu'uhonua means refugee, their first syllables are very similar.
@@SixArmedSweater That would also be consistent with Hawaii. Buying a house there as a local is very hard, as most property is owned by people from out of state as their second vacation home or as companies running another tourist geared business. A resort goes up instead of a neighborhood. A hotel goes up instead of an apartment building. So a bunch of locals pretending to be tough without the logistical knowledge to do a well run off the grid community taking over a failed resort fits.
Po town is literally living at Rio de janeiro in brazil,i dont live in there i live in like Vilhena rondonia(if you never heard of it thats ok pretty much the only thing this town is known for is probably being a footnote in a book) and its so different no cap
For pacifidlog its worth noting that raft cities actually exist in real life and although you need to carefully prep for them ocean storms are not a major problem as there are plenty of countermeasures in place including ones that would not be visible to the player in the games which can be assumed to exist
Also to address his resource concern, it seems to be like maybe 5 miles from a major port (Slateport), so outside of really massive storms getting supplies there wouldn't be particularly difficult. Also another comment mentioned something I forgot, Sky Pillar is right next door, which houses Rayquaza, meaning Pacifilog probably only ever gets storms when both Rayquaza leaves the tower, and there happens to a storm on the way, so honestly they probably don't really have inclement weather, ever.
Seeing as the postgame ferry ship can go all the way from Slateport to Lilycove and back again, supplying Pacifidlog probably isn't too challenging for Slateport. I imagine these two settlements having some strong connections.
I think Pacifidlog & Cinnabar are among the _coolest_ & exotic Locations in the entire series. I mean, yes Cinnabar does get blown up lol - *but* ,,, at least you still get all that *Fresh, Free lobster* for yourself!! 🦞🦞
Makes me think of college towns that tend to have big parties and riots in the city based on their team’s performance, so I’d be a bit worried about living there, there’s a reason I avoid campus here.
Funny thing is, even office workers in game have some pretty scary pokemons, like the colleagues double trainer battle in sword shield have a team of lucario, hippowdon, perrserker, and excadrill
My dude if you watch the Pokemon anime even people who are not trainers tend to have at least one Pokemon so you could be an accountant with a Pidgeot or Talonflame or any other big bird type Pokemon
I'm curious what your thoughts are on towns from Scarlet and Violet. My vote on the worst town there (assuming the "Ice gym city" doesn't qualify since it's literally only a pokemon stand, gym, and one battle court) would have to be the Ghost type gym. Aside from the obvious "It's cold" and "it's up a mountain making supply routes questionable" arguments, the gym leader is a renown DJ that requires an opening act and a pre- and post- battle set every time a gym challenger challenges them. What if you don't want that EVERY NIGHT? Are you going to say something to them and either get humiliated in a rap battle or have your pokemon beaten up by a gym leader? On top of all that, those snow-covered peaks tower immediately over the town, and nobody is concerned about an avalanche (maybe, I don't know... a SOND INDUCED AVALANCHE?!)
I find your assessment of Montenevera quite on point. I may not know much about the dangers of avalanches, but having a somewhat LOUD sound-related gym up in the snowy mountains does seem a bit... questionable. Also, I'm not quite sure on the accessibility, as every time I've visited it has been climbing randomly over the snowy hills or flying to the nearest Pokestop, so I'm not sure if there's a walkable route you can use. There probably is something, though. Also, while not nearly as bad, but I'd rather not live in Cascarrafa either. It may be a nice and rather blooming city, but the lowest part gets buffeted by sandstorms from the neighbouring Asado desert. Which does not seem pleasant.
@@SKuusk95 There is one long, snow covered path switch-backing up the mountain past many (to the average civilian) high leveled Pokémon. Concerns about accessibility are rather on point. Fair point on Cascarrafa, but if Phoenix can make it work, I'm not surprised they can too. It's more "Irritating" bad than "potentially a hazard to life and wellbeing" bad.
Most cities are pretty chill in Paldea Montenevra is cold, hard to access, all those things mentioned The psychic city might be hard to access from one side but the other side should be fine Zapacito is kind of in the middle of nowhere but that isn’t inherently awful Paldea has for the most part normal cities

Giant Chasm is also dangerous area to explore since a legendary dragon/ice type monstrous dragon pokemon is said to resides on that area and is said to eat people and pokemons at nighttime.
When I first played the Gen 2 remakes and reached Cinnibar Island, my first thought was to pray that the people living on the island were able to completely evacuate.

To be fair if you don't want to worry about the ladder problems in fortree city, you can always catch a pokemon nearby to help you cary groceries or keep away other pokemon. I think having a tropius would help a lot since you can find them in the nearby route and they can also just fly you up the treehouse platforms and carry your stuff for you. Plus with their long necks, they would make a great lookout for any danger.
Or a spinarak/ariados, or a wingull/pelipper. Wingull are everywhere, it wouldn't exactly be hard to get a giant pelican to help carry your stuff. Hell, I'm pretty sure you can get Slakoth/Vigoroth in the nearby routes

Funnily enough I live in Texas and love whenever it does get cold! I hate how hot and muggy it is down here. I told my family that once I feel I’m ready I want to move further up north.
I always saw Po town as an abandoned town that nobody was living in, so the people in team skull who were obviously doing it rough all moved in as a giant family. There are pretty much only two competent people in the whole organisation, so I can’t imagine them being able to take over an entire populated town without the intervention of the police.
You have a point, but it's also specifically stated that the police do not care what happens there. Nanu tells you outright that if you die, you die, and he's not going in for your body. I'd add Fallarbor Town to the list, personally, if only because of the constant volcanic ash in the next route over. I may not have any immediate respiratory problems, but I very much intend to keep it that way. I'd also like to point out that the area seems to get *all* the ash; to put it in perspective, Lavaridge Town is probably closer to Mt. Chimney, but gets more benefits (i.e. hot springs) with no nasty side effects.

I wouldn't see Po town as such a huge threat to my safety considering Team Skull are reformed by the end of the USUM storyline and they're incredibly loyal to Guzma and Plumeria so I highly doubt they'd go against their boss' orders to not start any trouble.
Okay so we know where Mikey wouldn't want to live. Now I'd like to see 13 places he WOULD like to live. Although Mikey is a Hoenn baby, I'm willing to bet that a lot of places high on his list, would be in Alola. Because he likes his photosynthesis.
@@anurodhpathak9725 I actually would have to pick Anistar City or Shalour City. One has the stunning gem that allows mega evolution and would make for great r and r spot, the other is a nice coastal town with the tower of mastery. Plus in the anime Shalour looks HELLA nice. And its close to reflection cave. I like living in an area that has geographic diversity. Its why I love Arizona. You have the desert sure. But flagstaff is a 4 hour drive from Tucson or two hour drive from phoenix and is home to the grand canyon and one of the largest ponderosa pine forest in the world. For unova yeah nimbasa is too busy for me I'd go with Aspertia city. Can get there by boat, so it has the coast and the mountains where you can see all of unova.
I personally also think Lavaridge could be a pretty uncomfortable place to live. You don't see this visually in the games, but considering you're sandwiched between a Volcano and a route where it is constantly snowing ash....even just breathing in that area has gotta be hellish
I love how no one has ever mentioned the fact that in alola the second island has an active volcano, so there’s always the risk for the whole island becoming destroyed
The Tapus can supress or redirect any volcanic activity. Koko to control the volcanic lightning and push away smog, Fini to cool the lava, Bulu to plant new growth, Lele to heal anyone hurt by the volcano.
@@sieragagne532 The thing is that i would prefer to detonate a nuke on the island before being helped by the OU meta itself, and as far as i know, they stick to their islands so lele could help, but only lele and that still does not remove the actual danger of a volcanic eruption: ash and toxic vapors
Also, about Fortree City, the wooden bridges don’t have any handrails, so you’re literally one windy day away from falling to your death. Furthermore, if lightning strikes one of the trees (and that’s a very likely possibility given their size and how much it rains there), that’s bad enough but now the whole city has a chance of being destroyed in a wildfire.
The post-champion dialogue in hoenn always gets me thinking there must be passageways reserved for non-competitors like the professor. Idk if the hoenn rival is implied to have beaten all 8 gyms & elite 4, but couldn't beat the champ, or if their dad got them in with vip prof clearance. I wonder if maybe there's a northern harbor for non-challengers to skip v-road
Giant Chasm is also dangerous area to explore since a legendary dragon/ice type monstrous dragon pokemon is said to resides on that area and is said to eat people and pokemons at nighttime.
The thing about Lacunosa Town is that 1. They never show nor name someone who was taken and eaten recently and 2. Assuming you live there after the events of the BW and BW2 games, either way, Kyurem has canonically been captured.
You forgot to mention there’s either a powerful whale or a weird lava creature inside of Sootopolis that can literally make you drown or get buried alive at any second.
@@Alphapkmn Yeah, Sootopolis is just where they go to battle Following the Emerald story, Kyogre is still in the Seafloor Cavern as they both are in Ruby, Sapphire and ORAS, and Groudon is in the Jagged Pass (?) going up to Mt. Chimney, where the Magma Base was built
I would LOVE to live in Snowpoint City, or Snowbelle City. I’m not well built for heat and I burn easily without sunscreen so I enjoy cold weather, shaded areas, and moonlight.
Snowbelle seems much more reasonable. It actually has pathways. Snowpoint literally has you trudging through snow that comes up to your chest at times. Not to mention it’s in the mountains and practically isolated.
I like living in Sioux Falls because it has what I call natural weather changes, since all 4 seasons are in a nice cycle. When I went to Disney World in Orlando with my family, we went in the worst possible time: June, where temperatures went up to 90 degrees Fahrenheit. And while we were down there, my sister got heat exhaustion, and then me, my sister, and my mom got sunburnt. So we decided that if we go down there again, it'll be during winter. But lemme say, I'm used to natural season progression, so I would want to remain in Sioux Falls
The Under in Pokémon Colosseum was really cool to visit but was underground, run by Cipher, and met its end before the sequel. Maybe good for a cautious visit or waiting till the postgame period.
Giant Chasm is also dangerous area to explore since a legendary dragon/ice type monstrous dragon pokemon is said to resides on that area and is said to eat people and pokemons at nighttime.
You do realize that most of your food supply concerns would be resolved by the fact that ALL Pokemon Centers effectively have teleporters. If I can store a berry all the way in "Oldale Town" Center's PC and then withdraw it from "Mossdeep City" Center's PC, I'm pretty sure that officials could have supplies transported the same way.
Okay, but nearly all of the disasters that he worries about have a significant chance of causing a blackout. The PCs wouldn't work without electricity, so in the event of a crisis, that option likely wouldn't be available.
Remember when the PCs throughout the Sevii Islands weren't connected to those of Kanto? I wouldn't become _too_ dependent on this technology if you ask me, it's by no means perfect and flawless.
Especially funny to worry about that in Blackthorn, a city full of Dragon trainers who's Pokemon can Fly them across the region in mere minutes. There aren't easy land routes into the town because there don't need to be.
Blackthorn City having a fairly safe exit at least helps. In emergencies they can evacuate down the mountain even if returning is slower and more difficult.
You mentioned SO many Hoenn towns already but Fallarbor town is covered in ash to the point that everyone is suffocating and Lavaridge is super inaccessable. Only able to get to it by fly or through the cable car then traveling town a super steep volcanic ridge.
Mikey, you were wrong about not being able to fit in with the old people in freezington. most men grow bald as they get older, so you can discuss that similarity
13:11 Actually Antarctica is a desert so it had very minimal precipitation, meaning Antarctica would be better for Mikey than Snowpoint City since it's super sunny for half the year there
9:24 That’s not to mention the sinking effect demonstrated in the games is caused by a pre-teen. I’m quite thin for my age but the average pre-teen would almost definitely way more than me. An adult trying to walk on the rafts would likely sink to or past their ankles, and considering the rafts are made of bound logs, an uneven surface, there’s a significant risk of slipping.
Honestly starting to think that grunty boi is actually just Michael's roommate at this point. He's literally just that terrible dorm frat boy that you get stuck with in your junior year lol
I think the reason why Geosinge Town doesn’t get repaired is because they might be worried about the weapon going off again and possibly destroying the whole region
Let’s not forget Pacifidlog town, least for the old games, didn’t have any “shallow water” areas so you can assume Sharpedo, Tentacruel, even Wailmer would be happily stopping by the city. Imagine just walking across some planks to go to the Pokémon Center and a Sharpedo helps you meet your demise.
@A Astro I’ll assume you were talking about my response to ‘paper marx’, but that comment, even when I first saw it, made more sense as a reply to my initial comment than Wooper’s. That seems more like it’s trying to be free clout for MandJTV.
Mikey: Grunty Boy, you know what? I want you to take this bar of Grapefruit IPA. Subtitles: Crunchy Boy, you know what? I want you to take this bar of Grapefruit IPA.
Well turns out you can be an accountant while still being one of the best trainers in the region. Now I didn't say it's healthy, just look at poor Larry, but it is possible.
With Pacifidlog town. The most pressing issue is supply, but storms actually aren't as bad as you'd think, there are real world towns that are built out of reeds including the 'ground' they float on. It is not the best place for most people to live as you can imagine and so this town is still very remote and a supply shortage would lead to the death of the populace. It's just the storms aren't nearly as bad as you originally mentioned, still a great video, good job.

ORAS suffered from problems like lack of Trainer Customization & removal of beloved features from Emerald although were still solid games worth their pricetag. Let's Go were $30 games at best being sold for twice that price & a huge step down from FireRed & LeafGreen as well as ORAS in terms of gameplay. BDSP look very disappointing from what we've seen so far & show the severe problems with Pokemon's Main Series these days. Gen 5 Remakes will probably end up being just as bad when they happen if things don't change within Pokemon as a company immediately. Gen 6 Remakes probably have the best chance of being done ok, although that's because we have plenty of time before those happen. Additionally there is Kalos not being as popular as Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, & Unova thus less likely to disappoint long term fans. I'm confident that the problems with Pokemon will be fixed by 2030. There's a good chance that Gen 9 won't arrive until 2023 & Gen 10 will probably end up on whatever the successor for Switch ends up being. All we can really do is wait & see the path the series takes over the next 15 years. I'm in favor of longer gaps between generations being the new normal for better products & more spinoffs personally. Maybe if we're lucky we'll see the 1st Gen 9 reveal Pokemon at the end of this year? We haven't gotten those since the days of Gen 3 when Munchlax & later Lucario, Mime Jr, Bonsly, & Weavile were revealed an entire year early. Long term fans miss the days of pokemon existing like Togepi during Gen1, Kecleon in Gen 2, & Munchlax in Gen 3.
i lived in dallas as a child. before that, i lived in chicago (and later moved back to 🥶) back in chicago, my community was fairly religious (jewish). in religious jewish day schools, weather meant nothing and they'd make you tredge through the snow because we're _that_ obsessed with learning. high school was worse. if you had an english paper to turn in or a presentation for one of your judaic classes, it didn't matter if the roads were closed. secular classes would _sometimes_ get cancelled, but that was usually due to the teachers not being jewish and the head rabbis felt it unfair to make them go through the same level of torture. 🤣 anyway, it turned out that dallas was very different. in 3rd grade, we got just over an inch and a half of snow one day and they closed the school. i think it might have been the first time i remember even having a snow day. people were scrambling to buy firewood before the roads closed and i s2g it was only like 30 degrees fahrenheit. i miss you, dallas 😢

Yeah, team skull may not be the biggest, flashiest or most threatening villains you come across in the games, but they have arguably made more progress than most of the other teams by completely taking over Po town. A feat that’s arguably only equaled by team yell with Spikemuth, and only really surpassed long term by Team Rocket / Rainbow Rocket. Mainly because by the time you show up and give them what for in the generation one games, they’ve already established themselves as ma massive organised crime syndicate, that had enough going for it that they keep coming back after each consecutive smack down they get. (Yes they basically have nostalgia and plot armour on their side, but that’s besides the point)

Even so, I would probably chill there if I couldn’t afford rent in Celadon or Goldenrod lol
How to get your groceries up a ladder? Use a backpack. Like the ones that can fit 99 potions and a bike in them. If you would live in a village that is just treehouses or floating on water you would get used to it. You're comparing it to your lifestyle, but those aren't bad places to live in. Especially in the Pokémon world. The storm argument is apparently not a problem since the village exists and people live there. The rafts are probably secured underneath. Snowpoint City must be in its winter state because there are trees growing which can't happen in a tundra biome. It's probably a Taiga biome. So no eternal ice. The same goes for Snowbell city and Freezington. It's not snowing forever. In case of cities with a undesirable state you yourself can help improve it. You expect others to do it but you won't do anything yourself?

The Alola Region, Po Town, Team Skull.... Seems like Gamefreak really did their research. That's sounds alot like Waianae XD
I think Team Skull might *be* the locals.

I've been to a raft city in Peru, and it's a hard pass from me.

"What if I wasn't a trainer? What if I was an accountant" that made me laugh and I don't know why
My mom is an accountant and she approves of this comment
Well turns out you can be an accountant while still being one of the best trainers in the region.
Now I didn't say it's healthy, just look at poor Larry, but it is possible.
With Pacifidlog town. The most pressing issue is supply, but storms actually aren't as bad as you'd think, there are real world towns that are built out of reeds including the 'ground' they float on. It is not the best place for most people to live as you can imagine and so this town is still very remote and a supply shortage would lead to the death of the populace. It's just the storms aren't nearly as bad as you originally mentioned, still a great video, good job.
I feel like Geosenge is more of a testament to either how incomplete X and Y were, or how desperately Z should've been a thing.
Hopefully we get X Y and Z on switch one day and it fixes all the problems (most of them)

@@lesmurii6872 Starting with ORAS remakes have been getting increasingly worse than the prior remake.

"I live in Texas, it snowed here, and the whole state... broke."
-Micheal Zinzalin Goth
I was literally gasping for 5 minutes when he said this.
i lived in dallas as a child. before that, i lived in chicago (and later moved back to 🥶)
back in chicago, my community was fairly religious (jewish). in religious jewish day schools, weather meant nothing and they'd make you tredge through the snow because we're _that_ obsessed with learning. high school was worse. if you had an english paper to turn in or a presentation for one of your judaic classes, it didn't matter if the roads were closed. secular classes would _sometimes_ get cancelled, but that was usually due to the teachers not being jewish and the head rabbis felt it unfair to make them go through the same level of torture. 🤣
anyway, it turned out that dallas was very different. in 3rd grade, we got just over an inch and a half of snow one day and they closed the school. i think it might have been the first time i remember even having a snow day. people were scrambling to buy firewood before the roads closed and i s2g it was only like 30 degrees fahrenheit.
i miss you, dallas 😢
I actually live in texas and I too experienced the snow
and we here in canada just kind of laughed at them until we learned that their houses aren't built to handle winter and it was actually all pretty bad.
I can confirm it indeed broke.... For like an inch of snow, there was not a lot at all

What you forgot to mention about Spikemuth: The entire town seems to be the slums, and it's implied the local economy is very poor.

The Pearl Settlement in the Hisui region (the predecessor of Snowpoint City) doesn't seems that bad for me.....they at least seems to have several hot springs that would help to make the snow and cold a bit bearable 🙂
At the time of Hisui, I'd say that every place except Jubilife Village would be undesirable to live in. The whole region is basically still untamed.
People in Lacunosa Town stay in their houses at night, without being able to go out with friends, do outdoor activies or whatever?

@@thedragonwarrior5861 Agreed

16:54 in my opinion it would've been cool to have some side quest involving funding repairs for the town or something, starting with patching up the hole and getting stuff to move the houses back in place. Maybe requiring specific pokemon, like a diggersby could help with filling in the hole or something
I still remember playing x and y for the first time when I first arrived in geosenge I took a picture and sent it to my friends because I thought the rock formation looked cool. Now I was ahead of them in the game and they asked me NOT to send them ANY spoilers. I had no idea what was about to come. Whoops.
I would also argue that if you live in the Ballonlea town in Galar, if you leave, you gotta watch out for not only impadimp, but other dangerous fairy type pokemon known to hurt humans (looking at you morelull and shiinotic).
And thank you for coming to my TED talk
It's not that serious bro
I was born and raised in Khabarovsk, Russia, which is like under a thousand miles north from Hokkaido island which Sinnoh is based on. Summer is hot and sunny here, somewhat similar to the state of Oregon. I can confirm there's nothing crazy about the climate there. Hokkaido is probably warmer and winters on the islands are generally much less harsh because of the ocean's huge heat capacity (hope you understood)

@@AustinSPTD1996 and is bigger than most of said countries.
As a person who has lived in Texas and in a tropical country, I can say that the heat in Texas during summer is a more extreme, but it does get colder during the winter. In the tropical country I live in now, heat doesn't get as extreme as it does in Texas during the summer, but instead it lasts pretty much all year long. The only difference is that half of the year it rains almost all the time, and half of the year it doesn't.
That being said, while I'm used to living in hot places, I really would love to be somewhere cold for a change. While I was in Texas winter was actually my favorite time of the year because it was colder.
