Phnom Penh's Central Market - a must-visit attraction for shoppers.
The Central Market in Phnom Penh, Cambodia is one of the coolest market buildings in Southeast Asia. The area it's in is one of the oldest in Phnom Penh. In this guide to the central market area, I'll show you my favorite places to get breakfast, lunch, dinner, drinks, coffee, and more. Where to: eat, shop, and drink after your visit to the central market. I'll also give you tips on how to shop at the central market, and help you navigate one of the biggest markets in Cambodia.

I've planned for months with my family and currently on my week long trip to PP/SR. Ryan you've been the biggest inspiration and source of info, thank you so much! P.S. I've visited most of your restaurant recommendations on thatch as well
Can I ask where you from? Welcome to the kingdom. ❤🎉
Nice! Thanks very much. I need to update my Thatch guides. I'm planning to make a few more with some local, hard to find recommendations.
You hard to find some local in Cambodia right?
So do you want to find some local in province or Capital of PP

@@itchyfeetonthecheap Would recommend adding Sambo Khmer and Thai restaurant in Siem Reap, ended up there for NYE and the food and drinks were amazing and very affordable
Well done Ryan for making the effort in learning to speak Khmer , there is no better place to practice your Khmer in the market .
Superb as usual. Thank you. I learned stuff and laughed 👍
You did great Ryan 🙏
Your in my stomping grounds - whenever i come to PP i rent a family's 1 bed ajoining apartment directly across the street from the Cyclo coffee shop. Love that neighborhood, still has that old PP feel.
Happy new year Ryan! Happy tuning in your video about Cambodia the most ❤
That banana shirt is fantastic !!
“Too many people speak English in this store” 😂😅 I really hope I have your problem when I get to Siem Reap.
😂 “eat his noodles” 😬
Thank you
Good job, Ryan, for your Khmer lesson! You pronounce better than some khmer ppl who live abroad 😂. Once you speak khmer fluently, you will be maybe potentially the next Mark Weins of Cambodia!!!
I'll need to master his crazy eyes though.
@@itchyfeetonthecheap 🤣 indeed!
Nah be yourself your great at it
great vid so helpful and entertaining
Looks super fun!
Thanks for the info!!
I was just there, a few weeks ago. The place is an icon to the the country.. but it's also the most expensive street shopping place. excluding the mall.
Another good one
Thanks for restaurant tips...
I remember when there was a little skate park on the top floor of that mall
I wish that still existed! Now they have an arcade with those fish games... I tried to film it but they stopped me. I don't think they're legal cause they're seen as a form of gambling..? I dunno.
Historical market
Ryan, you need to hook up with "Cambo Vlogs". He will teach you Khmer. He probably won't charge you anything :) I love Psa Thmei. It's the most unique place/building in Cambodia.
He left Cambodia! 😢
@@itchyfeetonthecheap He'll be back if not already.
Thanks Ryan in phnom Penh ATM just arrived yesterday. Great video.
Hope this helps….
“Kun” in Kun Khmer is pronounced more like “goan”. The K has a G sound. Make the word rhyme with “moan”. Goan
And Khmer noodle soup is pronounced more like “gah-deewww”. Imagine saying ewww. You may have seen the spelling as kathiew or kuy theav. Note the first syllable starts with a K and remember how the K actually sounds like a G.
Hope this helps!
Thanks! That helps a lot. I really think the romanization of Khmer needs to be updated. It would make it so much easier for beginners. To me 'kathiew' and 'kuy thiev' are said very differently.
definitely agree that there should be an update and an official one too at that. It will definitely help make it easier for foreigners and Cambodian alike with pronunciation. As for "kathiew" vs "kun thiev", "kathiew" or ka-tiev" is how people say it when they speak and "kuy thiev" or "Kuy tiev" is how it is spelled in the actual Khmer language. @@itchyfeetonthecheap
The guy in purple shirt actually really celebrities 🤣he’s an actor
Nice video as usual and nice banana shirt :P
Hello Cambodia ❤ you
Very yummy vibes
Oh my god I wished I knew about italki months ago. 😭 I’m Cambodian but I’ve strayed away from the language for a minute 🙈 and I’m leaving for my trip Sunday morning😂
Thanks IFOTC love you videos man ..being schooled on the basketball court..absouloute vart 😊
Fantastic video! One of your best. Gerry Todd quality.
Damn it, stop saying 'kami'.
Gerry Todd! 😂
I am Khmer that live far away from the country, missed the foods. Make me hungry 😋
Your new shirt makes me want to bake a banana bread.. very yummy..
Hi Ryan, absolutely love your videos and its inspiring me to move to cambodia at the end of the year (although I'm leaing more towards siem reap). Id like to try my hand at vlogging (and maybe varting once I get a bit of experience) while im there. What equipment do you use to make your out and about videos and to make your at home videos?
DJI pocket 2 and the Sony zv1 for the at-home stuff. But be warned... Varting is not for the faint of heart. Vart at your own discretion.
Cool❤
In first!
Great video!
Thanks very much. I hope your holiday has been good. Happy New Year!
@@itchyfeetonthecheapThanks! You too!
Same about Toul Kork, please!
Love your videos, watching since you were in Ecuador. In Phnom Penh this week. Hopefully I’ll run into you and buy you a beer or two. Lou (lived in T.O. for 60 years but recently moved to NB)
So many people are escaping Ontario to live in the maritime provinces. I hope you're enjoying it.
Bought a live fish(had them knock it out with a 2x4)ate some noodles, and bargained on a pack of underwear that was one size to small for me(i have my hopes and dreams), all on a 90ft radius.
I read a review that said no aircon in Sundown Central bar ... true? Fans? Sweaty?
It's all open-air. I didn't find it sweaty, but I'm used to the heat.
I enjoyed the video, but would have appreciated subtitles when you mentioned your highly recommended restaurants, bureau de change etc. Thanks.
Hey Ryan how are you? I’m coming to Phnom Penh end of January. Could you please suggest me a good budget hotel in the centre. Oh I’m from Vancouver. Thanks
K’ti-ew, “Que-ti-ew”
Does phnom penh have tesco lotus, big C and 711 like Thailand does?
When my Thai teacher found out the 711 of PP (which coincidentally opened while I was there) had a bathroom she flipped out completely, she demanded I take extensive photos of it for "homework". I forgot and now almost 1 yr later am still facing punishment until I go back to get the photos.
hot as balls when was at this market, where is the AC
AC? Go to a mall.
Ryan, I love your videos --- could you possibly include how much $ each of the items you buy cost?
Thanks!
I was referring to the food you bought.
🎉😂❤
Bonjour, est-ce que c est facile de trouver un travail pour les expats? Merci
Will you spell out the name of the first breakfast place please😊

Do you have a hotel to recommend for a family mate 👍
Hmm. Maybe Tao Riverside Residence. They have nice family rooms - kind of apartment style with balconies that overlook the Riverside area. North end of bkk1 area is nice. Baitong hotel, White Mansion, Plantation - all supposed to be really nice. I don't ever stay in hotels, so I'm not much help.
@@itchyfeetonthecheap cheers mate 👍 will check them out
Does the fish amok have bones in it?
Nah it shouldn’t
🇰🇭🇺🇸❤️👍 !
You’re quite good at bargaining, for a man😂.
During 2 years of my travels, nothing happened to me except in Cambodia: my iPhone 15 Max Pro was stolen (local savages tore it out of my hands and left on a motorbike), they replaced dollars in a massage salon with counterfeit ones, which they put in a locked cabinet. My subscribers also had their money stolen and changed many times. I think it isn't worth going to Cambodia - let the savages first learn to live in a civilized world!
kinda sad really seeing Cambodia slowly turn into Chinese..the fact that china is the main economic player in cambodia..while most establishment were set by them too..
