This entire scene is so sweet It feels so personal. So trusting, on both ends. He would understand best the pain you're in, yes. But his reaction, not being afraid of you at all, but instead so patient, so calm, it seems so different from his behaviour so far. I'll admit, I squealed at this scene because it was just so sweet xD

I’ll never understand that. To each their own, of course, but as far as I’m concerned there isn’t a single world in which him taking his abuser’s place and explicitly viewing you not as a partner but as his favourite toy is even remotely a good ending for his character or the romance. Like I get it, some of y’all like to play edgy characters and want to roleplay that unhealthy gothic romance with the hot vampire man. Cool. But there’s a difference between that and it being touted as “the best ending”. Why? Because he gets to walk in the sun immediately and in the good ending he doesn’t (even though it’s implied it could be possible)? That’s all? Meh.
I don't think its better and both endings are painful, but if forced to choose between a rock and a hard place I will pick the Ascension. At least there, you both are immortal, can withstand the sun and stay together, plus he not only shares a drop of his blood with you and says he will turn you eventually. Even if you will remain just his consort, he still is deeply attached to you, and that's a romance I can accept. However you let him stay spawn and then what? You remain mortal, he lives forever, he is still threatened by monster hunters, and becomes weak, confined to darkness once again. I fail to see how this is a good ending for either of you - MC is always forced to watch over Astarion because he has no power of his own, and Astarion will be forced to watch his love age and die. Not to mention the restrictions of the spawn coming back once again. Ascending is by no means a good ending, but Spawn is no better.

This scene is so well done and so stressful. Astarion helping his love through this is the sweetest thing. “You’ve got this. And I’ve got you.” Way to make me ugly cry and bite my nails thinking I’d rip him apart if I failed a saving throw (I don’t actually know what happens if you fail and I’m NOT looking to find out). The way he sits Durge down after it’s over and says how they’ll get through it together… Gods. Beautiful.
Yup, my first time watching this scene was in honor mode (so no reload option if something goes wrong) and my build was a fighter/champion with a -1 bonus on wisdom saving throws. This caught me completely off guard and I was on the edge, failing 3 inspirations trying to resist the urge, lucky me to get the last roll a critical success, I felt such a relief lol I was thinking to end the run right there if astarion died by my hand. This scene will be in my memory for a long time.
Can't help but notice what insanely high standards the game has set. This particular scene feels so natural: every facial expression, every subtle change of emotion, outstanding work of VAs makes it feel real. Apart from the fantasy aspect you can imagine two people having such conversation, because people actually talk like this.

Yeah, I’m doing the game as Dark Urge. The good path is cool as it’s like you’re wrestling with your inner evil self who want to kill everything, and….. also quite wholesome really no matter who you’re making out with. They’re seeing you at your worst after all

Just for some balance, I tried the Dark Urge story line myself, but never could get into it. I'm a former professor of creative writing and will admit that I'm not a big fan of "serial killer" content, so I'm aware that some of it is just personal preference. But when I sat back and analyzed the story for what was giving me trouble, I realized that the biggest challenge was that I couldn't get invested in the main character. I didn't know anything about them, trying to find anything out just resulted in negative consequences, and I couldn't engage with them like the companions to find anything interesting about them to capture my interest. Shadowheart, for example, doesn't know her past either, but you can engage with her in conversation, get a sense of her personality, etc. There just wasn't anything to latch onto with the dark urge. That said, it's also a matter of personal taste. If you enjoy serial killers, true crime, etc., you might enjoy it more than me. I will admit that I'm considering going back and giving it another shot after watching some of these videos. 🤷💀
I don't know if this will help anyone but I think I know a way to get this scene to trigger?? (As long as Isobel is alive and you've had Astarion's confession scene) When you complete everything inside Moonrise Towers and basically all of act 2, instead of continuing on to the 'Road to Baldur's Gate', immediately go to camp. This should force the scene to play once you go to sleep. Note: due to story reasons, you're essentially going to do 2 long rests back to back, because once you click on the 'Road to Baldur's Gate' it will bring you back to camp for some story dialogue and cutscenes. After that second sleep, you will be in act 3. I hope this helps!
Not killing Isobel is what triggers this scene, so you don't need to complete all or most of act 2. I just got to Moonrise, haven't done anything there yet except speak with the Blood Alchemist, and this scene still happened. Since it's Isobel you're supposed to kill, failing to do it will result in Durge targeting your primary love interest or your companion with the highest approval. It chose Gale for me cause I flirted with him. I was legit confused lmao I reloaded to before I saved Isobel and went to Moonrise Towers to speak to the drow. Astarion's confession happens on a long rest after that. If you want to guarantee this scene happens with Astarion, just get his confession BEFORE the fight at Last Light Inn because it locks your relationship in. Once you lock it in, Durge will target Astarion regardless of how much you've done in moonrise.

So I went to Isobel first, saved her. Then the scene where the Butler shows up and tasks me with killing her triggers, and he threatens if I don't it'll happen to the one I love most. So I defeat the Orthon and Astarion's confession scene triggers a couple long rests later. I went back to Isobel after the confession and talked to her, basically choosing dialogue that resists the urge, even confessing to her that I wanted to do it. Have had a few long rests since and this still isn't triggering. So I'm gonna do the defeat moonrise and back to back long rest suggestion. Idk if I did things too out of order or what?
@@BriMBaca I think it really varies when you'll get the cutscene after you save/rescue Isobel. Lots of people saying that it can take a couple long rests or a few more. I long rest a LOT, so there's no telling when it actually happened for me, I just know it occurred after I saved Isobel from Marcus. I don't think you did things out of order, I think it'll just...trigger when it triggers tbh
Astarion's romance with a Durge!Tav is my absolute (heh) favorite run in BG3. He's so supportive and much kinder to your character as a whole since the two of you are essentially having a very similar struggle. He gets even softer with them if he doesn't Ascend, especially when the whole...thing with Orin is revealed. EDIT: Your Durge!Tav is very pretty! I love her markings and her hair!
The dark urge has been my most Fun playthrough and most special romance with Astarion (non ascendant)❤️ he is so Sweet,Supportive & Understanding. He knows what's it like. The dialogue options & his reactions to when you reject your heritage, is Sweet 🥰 This is my canon romance & playthrough with him 💕 it's feels much more important and special. His romance scenes play out the exact same way,but you might get an extra line of dialogue here and there. This is the only different / new romance scene if your dark urge. To get this scene ,you must refuse to kill the Cleric Isobel. It does take a long while to trigger though.
When did this scene happen for you? Before Cazador or after? Before he confessed actually falling for you or after? I feel like I missed this scene, and I don't know when it's supposed to happen.
This scene happens mid Act 2 ,before Cazador and after his confession / hug scene. To get this scene your Dark Urge character must refuse to kill the Cleric Isobel at Last Light Inn in the Shadowlands. You must also keep her alive and stop here from being taken by Marcus.

after you protect Isobel from last light inn, you need to talk to her and tell her that you won't kill her. Then you kill ketheric and long rest I believe, but I know you HAVE to protect Isobel from the raid if you want this scene :)

Wyll definitely has a scene like that. I found out in a hilarious twist (which cost me a lot of nerves already). I am trying EVERYTHING to get Astarions version of the scene to trigger. I ignored Gale. Didn't work, game still considered him my love interest. So I ignored Last Light Inn until I got Gales confession scene to turn him down, went to Moonrise and got the scene with the drow. Stood up for Astarion. Saved Isobel and got the Durge scene. Who shows up, instead of Astarion? Wyll. Wyll, who I have declined to dance with and ignored most of the game. x'D so yeah, there is a Wyll scene, seems like it was bugged for you. Just like Astarion is for me :'D

To get this scene ,you must refuse to kill the Cleric Isobel. It does take a long while to trigger though.
Okay I think I'm nearly finished with Act 2 but I haven't heard anything about a ritual yet, did I miss something?
The ritual happens in Act 3 , if you met Raphael, he will tell you about it and what the scars mean once you do his quest.

When did this scene happen for you? Before Cazador or after? Before he confessed actually falling for you or after? I feel like I missed this scene, and I don't know when it's supposed to happen.

This scene happens mid Act 2 ,before Cazador and after his confession / hug scene.
To get this scene your Dark Urge character must refuse to kill the Cleric Isobel at Last Light Inn in the Shadowlands. You must also keep her alive and stop here from being taken by Marcus.
@@aranellavellan Thank you for the reply! That's so odd, though. I only got the scene where he asked me to kill Isobel AFTER already saving the Inn and killing Marcus... Not sure if it's broken now.

after you protect Isobel from last light inn, you need to talk to her and tell her that you won't kill her. Then you kill ketheric and long rest I believe, but I know you HAVE to protect Isobel from the raid if you want this scene :)

does wyll not have a version of this scene? ive seen an astarion version and a gale version, but when i refused to kill isobel i didn't get any kind of cutscene. is it just more content Wyll didn't get or was i bugged?
Wyll definitely has a scene like that. I found out in a hilarious twist (which cost me a lot of nerves already). I am trying EVERYTHING to get Astarions version of the scene to trigger. I ignored Gale. Didn't work, game still considered him my love interest. So I ignored Last Light Inn until I got Gales confession scene to turn him down, went to Moonrise and got the scene with the drow. Stood up for Astarion. Saved Isobel and got the Durge scene. Who shows up, instead of Astarion? Wyll. Wyll, who I have declined to dance with and ignored most of the game. x'D so yeah, there is a Wyll scene, seems like it was bugged for you. Just like Astarion is for me :'D
