My C55 AMG Introduction and Modification Walk Through!

- The C55 makes an official introduction to the channel with some cinematic shots followed by a walk through of the current modifications list! Now that this video has been filmed and put together as well as finally getting a Go Pro, you can expect a lot more videos of my car all the way from tutorials, how-to's, different POV videos with the Go Pro, and other videos that discuss anything about the C55 AMG. My hopes are to reach out to all of the C55 owners out there to create some sort of community among the select few of C55 owners out there. Or, maybe if some of you are debating on whether or not to get a car like this, my videos can help you make a more educated decision! One modification I forgot to mention is my full HID headlight and fog light kit. And for the record, since I know someone is going to say, "You're missing a lug nut on your wheel." To answer this ahead of time, yes, I'm aware lol, the tire shop only had eight of the lug nuts I needed for the back wheels, so I need to go pick up two more. 2015 is off to a great start and expect more awesome content to come! +Rylan Peranteaux Awesome! You're gonna love it. I bought both the diffuser and front splitter off Ebay. I can't remember the exact brand but if you go on Ebay and just type in "C55 Front Splitter" or "C55 rear diffuser" you should get some results. Just make sure for the front splitter that it is specifically for the C55 and not the AMG package C-Class because they are different different shaped bumpers. I have not had any codes pop up after removing the secondary cats or resonator. You shouldn't have any problems doing that because the O2 sensors are attached on the main cats. Hope that helps!

It probably won't be till the end of summer but I'm going to supercharge my C230 I'll let you know how it goes. I picked up a reverse pro charger which is self oiling so I don't have to worry about a feed and return. The universal bracket is 78 bucks on eBay. I'll just have to do some plumbing and figure out the fuel injectors,pump,etc. Keep up the good work, your car is bad ass!

Beautiful car I just bought a C55 about 3 weeks ago and I'm loving it! I really like the diffuser and front splitter that you have on there. What brand are they and where can I find them? I'm also looking into removing the secondary cats and the resonator. Did that throw any codes when you did it?
Hey Ryan, diffuser and splitter both came from ebay. Not a specific brand or anything. No codes were thrown when making the exhaust mods either, you'll love the sound change!

Can't blame you for taking advantage of a good deal. Gotta jump on those opportunities. I haven't installed the air intake from needswings as the gains from air intake won't amount on it's own. I do plan to get the Eurocharged ECU flash. Combined with 2nd cat delete and resonator delete, it's roughly $1,000 for 20+ HP. I've got a local shop that is building me a custom bypass section.
I've got a friend from Germany who worked for Benz and still has friends that work there and he is skype-ing with him today to find out if increasing fuel injectors will be a benefit. My guess is not as there is no forced induction so again the gains would be so minimal that its not worth the cost.
Next task- Address the ugly rear calipers!
Cool! And yea I definitely recommend the Eurocharged ECU flash. I'm looking into getting their TCU flash some time in the future, but I want to see if it's worth it. I am not a fan of the rear calipers or rotors either! I at least want to get some drilled rotors to match the front ones.
Smooth moves with your C55. I've got the same 5.5 AMG side logos, however a different grille (CLK Avantgarde grill, I think... the one with the oversize Mercedes-Benz star). Be keen to understand what's better; the resonator delete or the shorter headers? Any major difference in performance changes, or lack thereof? Thanks.
+Simon Davis Thanks Simon! The short tube headers are DEFINITELY a better upgrade. Don't forgot though that headers are going to be an easy $1000+ while the resonator delete should be at most $120. The headers will not only make the car louder (with more of a rasp like the 63 AMGs) but it will also add about 20 HP because it allows the engine to exhaust a whole lot better. The removal of the resonator will add negligible power gains.
Very tastefully done. So when the entire exhaust system is replaced, where do they put the O2 sensor? Because I think without it you'd constantly have your check engine light on.
Thanks Chris! I didn’t change the actual exhaust system just bits and pieces. I deleted the secondary cats and resonator and put short tube headers on. That doesn’t remove the O2 sensors so no CELs. Being in CA with smog every two years I wanted to make sure it stayed smog legal

I'd throw a meth/water injector in that as well. my car is the 07 so the back rims are deeper than the front plus I put 5mm h&r spacers so it looks really staggered!
I own a 2005 C230K Sport sedan same color as this one. I truly love this car, drive it every day maintain it and gas mileage is awesome do to mine being a 1.8 supercharged inline four. The only issue that just came in is my front turn signal and rear fog lights are not working. Beside that issue at 180,000 miles the car looks amazing and truly runs great. Ow and by the. way mine has the Brabus wheels which give it almost that exact look.

Yes I did a Eurocharged ECU remap.
All mods have probably added around 50-60 HP at the crank. Not a ton, but enough to give the car some extra get up and make it feel more alive.
Wait... you have those rims on for a couple of months? Obviously they didn't come off, but man... I wouldn't even want to drive knowing I am missing those lug-nuts, especially on the driven wheels.
With that out of my system: That is one of my favorite AMG's! You really made her look different quite tastefully. She sounds awesome, and I bet she goes like stink too! Take care of her dude!
The Dutch Texan Haha yea trust me I didn't feel all too great about it either, that's why I avoided doing any spirited driving, but this isn't my DD so I wasn't really driving it that much in general. I was kind of stuck because I was trying to fix the rubbing issue I had, and I knew I would need smaller lugs when I got the smaller spacers, so I just made sure that the four stayed torque'd up every week or so. Thanks! I appreciate the comment about the looks as not many people truly understand how great these cars really are. She is definitely pampered, and always will be!
I have a C230 sport AMG package. it's silver with a black gut with75088 on the odometer. I bought it last Feb and it was exported from Germany. I have twin Piper cross air filters. I'm putting h&r's this spring I had them on my BMW. I'm going to supercharge it to. I had a 535 H.P to the fear wheels 93 mustang gt I bought new when I was 18 I'm 41 now. But I love my car if I had the c55 I'd lose my license all over again.

Lip and rear diffuser can be found on ebay! Just make sure they're not the really low quality cheap ones. Pay a little more and you'll get one that won't warp or fade in the sun.
+umer abdullah Very cool! C32s are awesome. I'm not too familiar with the powertrain in that car, but I do know that with a good tune it can help you a lot. A lot of people swap out the super charger pulley as well as installing a bigger intercooler and maybe better injectors and spark plugs. Hope that helps!

Is the friend that helped wrap the roof Tj Hunt by any chance? Eitherway badass fucking ride bro. Love the subtle mods, really adds to an overall nice package. I was originally going to try and find one of these to buy but in the end couldn't find one with a good miles-$$ ratio sadly so I ended up going with a 328i m Sport 2012 which is a badass car in itself but its no amg. Seriously love the ride bro its finesse.

hi bro, very nice ride. i had the 2005 c230 komp. and was a very nice looking car. now i have an 2006 STI. my question is: is there any valvetronic exhaust systems available for the c55? since having cold starts at night in crowded neighborhoods is one of my concerns. thanks and keep up the nice work.
I have not heard of any actual valvetronic exhaust systems for the car, but you can easily just get a remote controlled exhaust valve and have it installed into the exhaust system. Thanks, I appreciate it!

Thanks man! Unfortunately, I haven't been able to due to the rubbing issue with the rear driver side tire on the fender. Ordered some smaller spacers, so hopefully that will fix the problem!

Could you tell us how did you installed your rear carbon diffuser?I've seen that you used some kind of screws in the lower part.What about upper,front part of this diffuser?Did you stick it to the bumper?Please let us know...Many thanks for info...
It was a combination of a few different things. As you mentioned, one of the things I did was I used self tapping plastic screws once I got the positioning right. Before the plastic screws though, I used double-sided 3M industrial tape and black silicone caulk that is paint friendly. Basically I used the tape first and some of the silicone and got the positioning how I wanted it, then once that was set, I went in with the self-tapping plastic screws followed by more silicone to seal the edges where the diffuser met the bumper. Same process for the front lip as well. Hope this helps!

How is the rear difuser installed?
For anyone considering an air intake upgrade for your C55, although the gains are negligible at best, needswings.com has a setup that is about 1/2 the cost of the RENNTECH.
Diffuser was installed by screws along with black silicone to fill some of the gap because it isn't a perfect flush fitment. As I said, I got the Renntech one for a very cheap price compared to what it normally is sold for. I haven't heard of that brand of intake before, do you use that intake? (I'm guessing you have a C55 based on your profile picture)

+Angus Macaleese Thanks! It depends! CL55 is definitely more of a "speedy cruiser" with a lot more of a luxurious feel, the CL55 is a large car also. The C55 on the other hand, is a smaller more nimble car (doesn't have the supercharger like the CL does, but it's a lot lighter). The C55 is a much simpler car too when it comes to having fancy options and such. With that being said, the maintenance is going to be cheaper when it comes to replacing parts that go bad. One component on the higher end AMGs (like the CL55) during those model years that has been really prone to going bad is the airmatic suspension system and it can get pretty pricey. It really just depends what you're looking to get out of the car. Like I said the CL is definitely more of a cruiser, but the C55 is a car that you could take to the track/autocross events, etc.

Thanks man, as of right now nothing too big. I just want to get the issue with the rear tire rubbing fixed so I can drive the car more aggressively through turns. Maybe some coil overs later this year, but they ain't cheap so I gotta save up! haha

+John Liberty Thanks! She's been great, only thing other than standard maintenance that I had to replace was a fuel sensor about 2 years ago. These 55 drive trains are very solid.

Your combination of exhaust (the key component being the headers), ECU and intake- the injectors may actually make sense for your setup. I'll let you know what I find out.

+TheGentleman Smith Reliability has been awesome. Only thing I've had to replace other than standard maintenance is a bad fuel pump sensor that threw a CEL, wasn't too bad though price wise. The dyno I used was one of those dynos that kind of gyps the numbers a bit, but the guy who owns the shop where I had it dynoed said it should be equivalent to about 410-415 Hp at the crank

Nope! Stock suspension. These wheels have been awesome. Offsets I believe are +35 and +40. 19 inches all around.

Nice car bruh! Just my 2 cents, my friend had a C55 a few years back and added Miltek mufflers and it sounded amazing! Second, those style AG wheels are slick but are they heavy? I was thinking about getting that style for my passat in a hyper silver color.
Thanks man! Alright sweet, I'll have to look into those Miltek mufflers! Do you know how expensive they are? And the wheels weigh around 26lbs in the front and about 27lbs in the rear.
That's the only problem lol Miltek only offers the full exhaust kits but you can easily check any car forum because there are people always parting out certain parts for full systems. He found his on AudiZine from a guy in Italy, so really buyer's luck but don't give up! Also Vibrant mufflers sound really nice too and are stainless steel so you don't have to worry about corrosion.But a full Miltek system runs around $2-$4 grand.
Also vibrant has mufflers on ebay fr around $100-$120 a piece and sound awesome with any stock piping/resonator delete.

Depending on what W203 model you have, I really just recommend a lip and diffuser. It's clean, simple and you don't have to worry about body fitment and paint matching. If anything if you don't have a C55 or C230 "sport" model, get the "AMG sport" front and rear bumper. Hope this helps!
What gas mileage do you get, and is the car reliable? I really want an AMG of some sort but those are the two major things I am worried about.
I get around 15 overall when I'm driving in a more "spirited" manner, but I've seen numbers as high as 19 overall and 24 highway when I'm driving more conservatively. And YES! The hand built engines from AMG last forever, as long as you change in the oil every 7500 miles or so and just take care of the car. There are some guys on the forums that have the M113 and M113K engines (M113 is NA like the engine in my car and the M113K is the supercharged 55 series V8) and have well over 150,000 miles, some even close to 200,000 and they're still running strong with no major problems aside from standard maintenance. Bottom line is that if you just take care of the car and get maintenance done when it's necessary (like any other car) it will last forever! Only down side is some parts and labor are a little more expensive since it is a Mercedes after all haha. Hope this helps, any other questions just let me know!

Try to get a tune. Not a whole lot you can do with those cars in terms of power mods, but a tune will help if you can find someone who sells one for that car or find a specialty tuner

umer abdullah you would need a cooling upgrade + exhaust+ the biggest expense the upgraded supercharger (kleemann or renntech and possibly weistec none are considered cheap) your looking at $10k minimum not including labor. Your best bet is to upgrade the cooling 1st and then do full exhaust + headers and a smaller pulley. Appx 415hp crank. Check out the forums and message boards those guys have already been there done that
umer abdullah I would go with a e55 amg pretty much the cheapest amg you can get that Wil net you 500hp with minimal upgrades. Going for about $10k-$15k for an ok example (paint wont be amazing)

umer abdullah what you need to do is call eurocharged in Houston and talk to them about what you want. Thats the place everyone goes to for amg performance I have their tune for my c63 amg they are very, very knowledgeable about amgs amd are always topping other peoples tunes

Beautiful car man, I've always wanted one of these. It's a shame there was no manuals. I'm looking at a Mars Red one in my area for $9800, 72,000 miles. Before I do it, I'm curious what the maintenance is like on this? Are they somewhat reliable for German cars? I'm just interested in what it's like from an owner's perspective.
+Dan G Yea same here man I wish they optioned them with a manual too. Over the 3 1/2 years that I've had the car I have had very little maintenance issues. Only thing that has come up is a fuel pump sensor that was a quick fix. The part that is great about the C55s compared to a lot of the other AMGs during this year is that the C55s are pretty simple cars. They don't have the fancy airmatic suspension that is a pain when it doesn't work right, and there's not a lot of other extra bells and whistles that give chance for costly repairs. The drivetrains in these cars are very well built, the engines are rock solid as long as you just take care of them and do maintenance when it's due with the correct fluids and parts. I have friends that have well over 130,000 mile on theirs and it's still running real strong. Getting one with 72,000 miles is not a bad deal at all, just make sure to do a pre purchase inspection from a trusted mechanic you know of! Hope this helps!

+Hnat Automotive Photography Just found a silver one that went up for sale in a used dealership about an hour from me. 74k miles, worth a look. These are not the easiest cars to find haha. What does a standard oil change usually run you? And how many quarts roughly do they take, do they consume lots of oil? (I had a 2004 Audi S4 and that 4.2 just drank through oil like no one's business)
+Dan G 74,000 Miles is a great find, a lot of them now are in the 6 digits! They are actually one of the rarest AMGs, believe it or not, they only imported somewhere around 1200 cars into the U.S. between the two years of production. It does burn some oil, since it's a higher performance engine, but nothing that's abnormal unless you got a leak somewhere haha. Car takes 7 quarts to fill, depending on where you go and what oil brand you use, it usually ranges around $70 to about $100, but it really isn't too bad. In the 20,000 miles I've put on the car, I've only had to fill an extra 1 quart of oil, which may have been slightly due to a leaky valve cover gasket at the time.

In my opinion, yes. Shorter wheelbase and lighter makes the car feel more nimble than an E55 and I've driven both. Plus, the E55s have that horrible airmatic suspension system.

Laziest Ecu tune and air filters, that's really all you can do that's worth it without doing major mods

There very reliable depending on the miles I just bought mine with 80 k miles
Its very reliable for what it is....Check valve cover gasket, make sure the plastic is intact and no excess oil on engine, check Crank position sensor, and headlights and fog lights for fade....besides that, just clean it and maintain it man you can have this car until 300K miles or more! its a simple motor.
How much it gained on dyno with the headers and tune?
About 60 to the crank

How much did you get the renntech airbox for? And is it worth it?
I got it second hand from a buddy of mine for $500, it normally costs $2000 and for that price I'm not sure if I would get one because at most you get somewhere between a 5-7 ish horsepower gain. If you can find a second hand one or get one for less than 2K I definitely recommend it because even though the horsepower gains are small, I can definitely feel a difference in throttle responsiveness especially on the freeway when you have a lot of air flowing into the intake.

The guys at Discount Tire miscounted and gave me 19 instead of 20, so it sat for a few days with one less while I waited for the extra to come in the mail. Don't worry, no hard driving was done in that time :)

How does your car handle in rain snow? Just wondering. Does it also oversteer much?
MrStreetballer5 Well rain is just fine! Snow on the other hand is a pain and I end up using my girlfriend's mini haha.
I have never driven it in the snow because I love in So Cal lol, but in the rain it can get kind of dicey because it's RWD and you have a lot of torque going to the rear wheels. Basically, in the rain as long as you don't push the car too hard through turns it's fine. It also depends on what kind of tires are on the car, in my case they are Nitto Invo's and the grip pretty well so far. As far as understeering, it doesnt really understeer all that much, at least from what I've noticed after owning the car for the time I have. I plan on doing some spirited canyon drive videos in the next few weeks, as well as some autocross events. Then I will really be able to tell you if there is much understeer.
Hnat Automotive Photography True that, also the fact that the C55 is a one wheel wonder lol doesn't help, with an LSD it improves inclement weather driving greatly! I have Toyo Proxies on mine and while I drive conservatively in the weather it doesn't phase the car too bad. Although it is easy to get the flashing traction control light when it's rainy and you floor it! :)

Of course man, happy to help. That definitely is higher on mileage, but if you're mechanically inclined, and you're up to putting some work and money into the car, I'm sure it would still treat you well (so long it hasn't been completely abused previously). If I were you though, I'd try and wait to save up more or wait for another lower mileage one to come around for maybe around $10k ish.
