  • @isettech
    @isettech 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I know this is a way late post, but I normally set up the mixer first to normalize everything and put on some music to establish unity gain sound levels. After the mixer is set with music playing, I add the main amp/speakers and set the volume all the way low, then bring it up to your performance level for the event remembering a room full of people will need more volume. If your mixer has an output EQ, this can be used to adjust for the room. Now when adding mics, etc, the cue/PFL,SOLO, or other name for channel monitor, they can be adjusted to nominal in the sound check so when they are sent live to the main, there are no surprises and people running for the exits as performance volume was defined before the event. Run the mixer at nominal VU levels regardless of the event size. Adjust the amp/speakers for the event size before the event starts. It is really amateur to turn on a mic and have the level horribly adjusted. Use the Pre Fade Listen, Solo, CUE or what ever it is call on your board to set the mic channel before the guest speaker uses it. Music is better than "Test, Test, Test". A mic pre cued and trimmed will just work. Checking computer levels, CD, DVD, Mics, etc are always best checked first with meters and headphones before going live on mains.

Plugging my guitar into the "in" of my pedal and then from the "out" of the pedal to my powered speaker "in" creates a feedback loop. Hello, why don't you plug your mixer on the input "thru" of the DXR12 instead of the line input as you explain it on another video ? What is the difference between the 2 inputs of the DRX12 ? Thanks for your answer, Emilio (France).

    • @kettnercreative
      @kettnercreative  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The DXR12 has only one XLR input, but it has two different XLR outputs.
      Thru will send a copy of what is playing on this speaker to another speaker.
      Link out is for when you're not using a mixer. It will send the right output from either 1/4" or RCA to the next speaker which will give you stereo sound since the left input will play on this speaker.

    Why do you want to set all your EQ's at zero as a starting point? We usually use all our setting where we set them in rehearsal so we have starting point. Is that wrong? What happens if you do, or if you don't? If you have a 7 or 9 band EQ on your mixer board what happens if you don't have it straight across? My group wants me to leave the EQ band like a V in order to take out the middle while boosting the bass and a little highs and then adjust the individual vocal's EQ setting as we go from place to place. This is a Quartet that sings Southern Gospel, do you have any suggestion of what we might be doing right/wrong? Our bass singing wants more bass support in his voice. We have the support in the music.

      Yes, you'll lose L if you're only outputting to R. If you have enough inputs on your mixer, plug your dual TS inputs into two R channels. So now you have to use two faders but now you'll get the stereo input to output to mono.

      I always leave the speakers set to "0" on the yamaha console which is roughly 50% (depending on brand) and do all of the volume control from the console.

      @@kettnercreative Thank you so much! wow, I did not expect such a quick answer! My powered speakers have a volume, what do I set them on. If I set them to 0 I would get nothing, I did not know if I should turn them up high and just use the mixer to control them. I am a little lost with the word console, do you mean mixer?

      @@artsymamanana Usually there is a mark with the recommended volume setting. If there isn't, then turn it up to 50%. Console = Audio Mixer.

    I would love to see the hook up to a piano keyboard. Is there any set up on a video for that please?

    • @545parsa
      @545parsa 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you wanna hook up keyboard to a speaker, you're going to need to plug in your keyboard into a DI box with a TRS cable and then from the output of the DI use an XLR to connect to the Line in of the speaker

    Hi! I'm trying to play music with my Iphone through a mixer, but each time the voice of the singer is muffled in a way, I use a mini jack-adapter to connect to my Iphone.. What am I doing wrong? thanks!

    • @kettnercreative
      @kettnercreative  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would double check the EQ settings on your mixer. If your sound is muffled, then I would suggest that your treble is either turned down or your bass is turned way up.
      Do other channels (Microphones, etc.) sound normal?

      @@kettnercreative thank you! Yes we've tried many things on the table, and all other channels sound good! We always use it for live music (guitar, mic), but impossible to put a mp3 from an Iphone, the sound is terrible!

    You're suppose to set the volume starting from input level (gain), to channel level, to master level, to speaker input level in that order to make sure you have the best signal to noise ratio.

    • @kettnercreative
      @kettnercreative  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I'm not sure that you're correct. By starting with the speaker level at zero, then setting the master at zero, then setting the channel at zero, it make sure that you're not introducing more gain than necessary, thus reducing as much noise as possible.
      The goal is always (95% of cases) to have the speakers (if they're self powered), mixer, and channel all at zero (unity), then introduce the minimum amount of gain possible to achieve the desired result.
      This is what I attempted to demonstrate in the video.
