I once was doing a live performance using my phone for backing tracks. But I forgot to set to the ringer to zero along with notifications. My performance was interrupted with a phone call that went out the PA, it was the wife asking if I was done my show and to pick up milk on the way home LOL!! The audience had a good laugh... lesson learned, double check your phone before the show :-/
This is superb. By showing the different combinations of cables and connections, it’s clear what our options are regardless of mixer channel count or connection types.
Great video, thank you! Question - What about if you want to capture the sound FROM your mixer/speakers to go through your phone (say for live streaming)? Would it be the same xlr or rca cabling? Would you need a balanced or an unbalanced connection?
Ehi, great video first of all!!! I was wandering if i could plug my phone to an audio interface first and THEN to the mixer for better audio quality. Is it necessary or analog mixer come with great audio quality too? Thanks a lot :)

Hi Richard, I just got this mixer and am connecting iPhone X using the usb cable that comes stock with mixer using Apple USB camera adapter…I’m only hearing on the left…so I shouldn’t do this way? What am I doing wrong?
Love your content, I am new to this and want to buy a mixer to connect my phone and a shure sm58 wired mic as input and connect a bose speaker as output. What would I need for that - any video on how to connect to small speakers rather than powered speakers for home use
Amazing video! One thing I was curious about though. I have a small portable mixer, just mono/stereo control and volume control. I’m trying to turn it into a karaoke machine basically but with multiple microphones and and iPhone as the inputs (it has 6 of the 1/4” inputs) and then output it into a stereo system through a 3.5 mm audio jack. I have all the microphones working just fine and playing through the stereo, but the phone isn’t coming through. I have a lighting to aux adapter with power built in to keep the phone charged. I have a 3.5 mm to 1/4” from that to the mixer. Can you think of what I’m doing wrong or do I need the DI box to make it work?
do these converters work backwards? Could you take the balanced Stereo Outs from the mixer and mono-sum them and convert them and level them to feed into your iphone?
Hello sir I am using same mixer for Facebook live streaming and using irig for mobile streaming but problem is sound output is Very low once I use irig through stereo output please guide me ..for better sound what should I do
Thank you for the great advice. I don't have an iPhone, so the lightning connection wasn't an option, but I found something similar. I used a c-type sound card which solved the problem, but do you perhaps know how to crank up the bass on a 4-channel analogue mixer? Do I need something else?
I very seldom run audio systems stereo, but of course I want all the recorded information in both the left and right channels of the source audio (usually a phone or tablet) so I do something similar only I use a summing cable. A ¼" TS male to 3.5mm TRS male. That way I am only using one channel on the board. And like you, if I have to run it up on stage I will run a single direct box to a single XLR to the board.
I’ve got a question? Can I connect a USB mic into the mixer? How do I do that safely that I don’t damage the mic or the mixer and the cables I need? Thanks so much for your videos.
is the cable you are using different from an insert cable? I have a cable that looks exactly like the one you are using but it has a label on the two TS ends saying ring and tip.
Hi I'm still working with CD deck through my analogue 300 x300 rms mixer etc but I'm trying to get a solution using a music app on phone etc! I found the dongle dac had not enough signal from the 3.5 mm sterio jack compared to 2 or more volts from a line out signal from a CD deck ,and I could not achieve good enough sound volume at the power mixer even at the top volume control limits ! Question - can I put the external DAC signal through a pre amp to increase the line out signal - then on into the mixer pre amp ? In your opinion would this work 1 at all ? or 2 work but possibly with too much noise etc for DJ PA ? - or 3 - should work ok? Many thanks in advance for any help on this subject!
Genuine question here...would this play audio during a phone call? I know it wouldn't send audio out but how about audio in so that the caller's voice can be heard?
I use my tablet as backup thru one of my single mic inputs using a 1/4 inch unbalanced and a 3.5in balanced cable. Seems to work great...is that legit??
I have mg 10 xuf, whenever Im connecting something to mic inputs my audio is mixing to mono, I don't understand this, same thing with rca inputs, I'm trying to connect ipad to rca, and unfortunately yamaha is mixing signal to mono, why??? What I'm doing wrong?
How do I record from a yamaha mg166cx mixer to a camera or a android phone please? I tried putting balanced 1/4 TRS inch in group 1 and 2 outputs , raised the level, set it to streo and there is no sound coming out. The 1/4 inch ends with xlr male. I connected two xlr male to two xlr female to 1/8 TRS, to 1/8 to 1/8 adapter to headphones. What am I doing wrong that I do not get and sound?
Excellent video. Thank you! Question: How can I connect a MIDI keyboard to my iPhone 12 Pro Max at the same time (trigger sounds from a MIDI controller on my iPhone and run the audio to the mixer)?
Great video! Very straight forward. I'm a neophyte when it comes to audio equipment, therefore a question for you. I own the MG10XU, dbx 286s and Shure SM7B and iPhone 11 Max Pro. My question is this... I will be filming through the iphone using Filmic Pro app and using the Shure mic for audio. I understand the connection chain between the Shure > dbx 286s > MG10XU, but what connector(s) do I need to go from the MG10XU to iphone so my audio works with the iphone? Is it one of the solutions in the video? If so, which one and if not, can you tell me exactly what I need to get it to work? Thanks
We're going to be making a video on this shortly. Basically there are three ways: 1) USB Audio Mixer Mixer > USB Cable > Apple Camera Connection Kit > iPhone 2) Audio Mixer > XLR to USB Cable > Apple Camera Connection Kit > iPhone 3) Audio Mixer > XLR Cable > USB Audio Interface > Powered USB Hub (to supply Power to USB Audio Interface > Apple Camera Connection Kit > iPhone If you subscribe to our channel, you can expect a video on all three options early next week. I'm looking for a wireless solution for practice at home (wireless music from phone, instrument and microphone to output to headphones) and maybe a usb out to record on PC. Not that I know of. There might be some software based mixers that can do it all through software if you have Facetime or another similar app on your computer.

I can talk individually to everyone but I want to have a group call or conference between these three mobile that everyone could talk to each other and everyone could hear each other . Please need your help or please make a video thank you so much in advance.
Really great question. Although it does work, you would be connecting a line level signal into a mic level input. You would need some type of XLR Pad or DI Box to lower the signal level. Your solution would give you a mono signal and the stereo image would be lost. The methods in this video are far more popular and give you a stereo signal.
Since the headphone signal is stereo, the TRS jack coming from your phone would be unbalanced. Any length over 15' would be susceptible to noise, buzzing, hum, etc. I would recommend using a DI Box for a length that long.
