You said the ghosts and paranormal stuff seem to be derived of the psychic abilities of the dark ones, I am not sure if you are right, i never looked at it that way, but in the books a charakter in the metro tells artiom, the reason why the metro is full with ghosts is because the nuclear bombs were so "powerful" that they took earth, heaven and hell and fused them into one. Meaning that souls of people who died in the metro couldnt leave the tunnels and therefore stay in our world. I believe that this is correct but I think there is no ofiicial explanation whatsoever so you´re theory could also be perfectly right.
I remember playing 2033 and Last Light thinking how horrifying and soul crushing this world would be. basically the opposite of a power fantasy and something I'm not sure I would wish on my worst enemy
@@hoxseptem4073 I was more of a Chaperone guy myself personally. I just love the fellwinter’s sniper as a meme, and I’m too lazy to change my PFP anyways.
Metro definitely makes post-apocalyptic living seem like a nightmare.... There's really nothing to look forward to.... Which is exactly why the ending of Exodus is soo damn poetic and beautiful... One of the greatest game trilogies of all time!
To be fair, the Metro series takes place only twenty years after Nuclear Armageddon, while most of the Fallout franchise happens a century or two later. This would explain why most places (except for blast zone epicenters) are radiation free enough in the Fallout Universe not to require 24/7 hazmat gear when outside. Before anyone interjects, F76 takes place in an area where no nukes were dropped, much like the low priority target areas in Metro Exodus, where survivors do not need hazmat gear to go outside.
But a nuclear war doesn't cause decades long life threatening radiation levels to begin with. The only reason it could be bad a couple years later is if a NPP is hit and leaks radiation. Otherwise you'd be perfectly safe to spend lots of time outside even as soon as 14 days after the nuclear war. It's exavtly why Hiroshima and Nagasaki were rebuilt so soon after the nukes but Prypjat remains abandoned for centuries to come. NPPs have long lasting isotopes while nukes have plenty of short half life isotopes as those are the ones that give an immediate burst of energy required for destruction.
You can definitely be a lone wolf, much like Khan was. But you need to have temporary allies on certain areas of the Metro. Sometimes, relying on numbers won't cut it, whereas relying on it is the only way. So it's a world where it's impossible to just fully sit on one side, being on the fence won't cut it either. If survival is your main focus, then adaptation is your only key to it.
I always found it somewhat comical at how canonicaly rare the AK-47 is in metro even though its one of few weapons with more varients than any other. I get it, post apocalypse. But there's an AK for every 10th person on earth and that was a 2013 statistic I believe. I can't imagine it being that rare in reality. Also I never knew the military grade ammo was 5.45 I assumed it was the traditional 7.62 with this being Russia and all. That being said I don't think I'd live to be an old man but I think I'd give the world a good run for its bullets for at least a decade before becoming one of those random "elite" soldiers acting as escourt or back up to a vip and being one shot by a demon.
The 5.45 is what the AK-74 uses, which is what the Kalash in game is more based on. I think the in-game canon is that the 74's were those brought into the metro by nearby military/police as the bombs fell. And the majority were sent to soldiers/allies of russia and weapons that were on the surface would be too ruined by radiation and the extreme weather to be usable. In fact in metro exodus the game explains that the reason that the revolver/bastard fire 44 magnum (instead of the more russian makarov rounds) is that they were the most useful round against the mutated wild life.
@@nickstav08 oh shit I did not know that about the AK, thanks. And I assumed that 9mm from the makarov would do shit to the monsters since it already takes soo many revolver shots to kill them as is. Imagine having to fight those mole fuckers with a fucking makarov you'd be wasted in seconds. Also I enjoy learning more about firearms so I thank you for the information bump
@@kurok1sh170 plus if you look at the pistol ammo in exodus, you can see that the bullet is inside the casing, thats because the ammo and revolver are based on the nagant 1895, the only revolver that can use a suppresor in real life
@@nickstav08 it's explicitly statedin Exodus that the ammo is .44 magnum, but you're right the bullet is inside the case like an 1895 nagant cartridge. I don't think the revolver in-game looks all the much like the 1895 nagant though tbh, maybe it is just me? More than in the other games I guess.
The metro idea was smart and realistic, metro 2033 and last night immersed me in what it would be like being stuck underground, metro exodus is good but you won’t have to same feeling in your stomach like you do in those tunnels man
Just as a side note the 5.45 ammunition that is used as currency is also Incendiary they are "red tipped" bullets indicating they are such. and they set targets on fire if you use them
One thing the games never covered, but rather forgot (and this goes for just about every other post-apocalyptic story), but the atmosphere has been thinned drastically (enough to plunge Moscow into a nuclear winter) so direct sunlight would in fact burn most organic matter exposed directly.
I think the greatest thing about the Librarians was that they were talked up to be such a hard to kill creature, by both the NPC's and my friend, but when I got to them I was still carrying the volt driver (Literally didn't put it down the entire game), the volt driver, when over charged, will kill Librarians in one shot if you shoot them in the head. Or, 3 shots to the head otherwise. Which is very easy to land when they're not charging you. So, keep your distance, keep it charged, you'll be fine.
When it comes to food the author established that the animals are safe to eat as they have gained a sort of immunity to radiation, for example in metro 2034 or the game metro last light the fishermen of Venice say that the mutants known as shrimps are very tasty with beer.
If we could communicate with the Dark Ones, ala Artyom. Perhaps we COULD survive relatively well. From what I gathered, Artyom was exposed to them as a kid. The Dark Ones psychic abilities don't seem to affect children the way it affects grown humans.
Just become a bullet exchange worker, you can earn money by sitting in the safety of the metro and yelling "BULLETS EXCHANGE!" every now and then. Plot twist: you get a job in the 4th reich.
Wow Such Gaming is on the Hype Train with us ! :) But people do survived on wastelands; just not on the muscowian wasteland; the mutated/irradiated caspian sea; entire siberia are a fair game
The Ghosts have nothing to do with the Dark Ones. The Dark Ones are mostly destroyed by Last Light, and are not in Exodus at all, but Ghosts appear in both.
Actually they did appear in exodus. During the final mission in novisibirsk. While artyom tries to find his way into the institute. You can see dark ones appear. Quite hard to spot, but they are there.
Something that's really cool in my opinion thats in the novels, but not the games is the is the fact that Librarians can mimic and maybe even understand speech.
Its actually far worse than that, with floodings or cave-ins of tunnels or entire stations being more than a common threat. you could simply be crushed or loose access to the actual wider parts of the metro itself and simply starve to death along with your entire community
@1:25 2 middle eastern countries fired 20,000 nuclear weapons? I'm sure that's a mistake reading the wiki, because that's more than all the nukes in the world combined in the world currently (or 25K when the books were written in 2005). That's pretty over kill for 2 countries to fire at each other. Thats more than enough to nuke every city in any middle eastern country 20 times over. I'm pretty sure you meant that a total of 20,000 nukes were launch by every country.
if I can choose which Post Apocalyps I should go, I choose Fallout, The Water is Clean, some Mutant, Infected & Cyborg are Friendly, Mutation Animal can be tame, free Rad, No worry about Food & Water, can Repopulate, still can do the Business...& The last one, we can be leader for our own Faction...
4:02 mate...the 3ed game is the realization that people live on the surface and have no radiation zones, so saying livings above ground is out of the question is just wrong
Fun fact, there is a good chance you actually do survive a nuclear blast, about 1/3 of Hiroshima and nagasaki died so you have almost a 70% chance of surviving
@@happy8742 No. Everything is at least 100 years later in USA. So there is MUCH less radiation and even a bit less beasts, as most of them just killed each other before the player had a chance to look outside the vaults.

@@mand0rk Heh, good one- hopd to see you in the Metro, Guardian.
@@jokuihmehyyppaMoscov was bombarded with cobalt bombs too
That's why right outside it radiation drops so drasticly
You can definitely be a lone wolf, much like Khan was. But you need to have temporary allies on certain areas of the Metro. Sometimes, relying on numbers won't cut it, whereas relying on it is the only way. So it's a world where it's impossible to just fully sit on one side, being on the fence won't cut it either. If survival is your main focus, then adaptation is your only key to it.
Man the most terrifying thing here is when your flashlight ran out of battery while you're in the middle of scorpion spider nest...

The metro idea was smart and realistic, metro 2033 and last night immersed me in what it would be like being stuck underground, metro exodus is good but you won’t have to same feeling in your stomach like you do in those tunnels man
The anomaly is formed and attracted by electricity. Explained in the side mission "khan"

Do why you wouldn't survive the harran virus from dying light.

The Demons can see just fine, as seen in the book, when Artyom activates his light, attracting a demon, to kill the Watchmen who were assaulting him.

Dosh guise, grab it all!
When it comes to food the author established that the animals are safe to eat as they have gained a sort of immunity to radiation, for example in metro 2034 or the game metro last light the fishermen of Venice say that the mutants known as shrimps are very tasty with beer.
14:34 thank you for calling that shit out
If we could communicate with the Dark Ones, ala Artyom. Perhaps we COULD survive relatively well. From what I gathered, Artyom was exposed to them as a kid. The Dark Ones psychic abilities don't seem to affect children the way it affects grown humans.
That "millions" you mentioned is only 50000. It is in the intro cinematic of Exodus.

This video is book based not games you dumbass
Something that's really cool in my opinion thats in the novels, but not the games is the is the fact that Librarians can mimic and maybe even understand speech.
13:03 top tier gameplay right here
The books are far more difficult to survive in. The Nagornaya Phantoms comes to mind.
I personally love the games....anybody getting exodus should play with low brightness and hardest difficulty XD good luck
Its actually far worse than that, with floodings or cave-ins of tunnels or entire stations being more than a common threat. you could simply be crushed or loose access to the actual wider parts of the metro itself and simply starve to death along with your entire community
Plus with all the diety rusty metal everywhere, your just asking to get tetanus
Replaying both 2033 and last light. The second is just amazing.
I really disliked the stupid child dark one storyline.
Wouldn't it be a great thing if wars were fought with socker boppers?

@@happy8742 No. Everything is at least 100 years later in USA. So there is MUCH less radiation and even a bit less beasts, as most of them just killed each other before the player had a chance to look outside the vaults.
