Thank you. I like that there's no corn syrup in this. I believe that I will make this minus the Bourbon because we love pecans, but don't want corn syrup aka embalming fluid as I heard one health lecturer call it. I'm going to cut the pieces into smaller samples for thanksgiving so that a person can have some of this AND pumpkin pie sample too then it's not a buster. Lol. I avoid added sugars for health reasons like reducing visceral adipose and to avoid joint pain, but I believe in infrequent moderation, I can enjoy this. Thank you for sharing. God bless.

good pecans do indeed taste buttery! my fav is the Premium pecans from the pecan pantry, but the Fancy pecans are also buttery as well. if you ever had a true Southern pecan, you know the differnce.

Camirra, this recipe looks so delicious, including the crust! I love the vanilla idea, altho' some vanilla bourbon might be good in there too, lol! But I'm a little hesitant about the honey because I'm not a big fan. Have you ever tried it with maple syrup or do you know if that would work as well? Also, have you ever tried it with either a chocolate layer between the crust and topping or with chocolate chips stirred in?
you can do chocolate, but i would suggest a very dark chocolate like 85% dark. definately not milk chocolate. it would be way too sweet in my opinion. a dark chocolate owuld be sweetned enough by the rest of the recipe and i would probably dizzle it on top once you take it out the oven. the chocolate owuld not need to be baked it. never tried with maple syrup in this recipe. i would try it, but im not 100% sure what the results would be.

im soooo glad you got them and loved them!! yes they taste so good! i have made a black walnut cake. whats funny is that my dad once found a black walnut tree. pick a BUNCH of nuts but didnt want to crack them. and they were not just in the shell but had like a coating over the shell. he had me out there cracking nuts for hours with my siblings, then i had to make him a black walnut pound cake a few days later. 😂😂😂 once i ate the black walnuts i hated them, but my dad loved it haha.
Too funny… I’m in Jersey there used to be an ice cream parlor that made black walnut ice cream my mom took us there almost every Sunday after church. A friend that lives in South Carolina found the Hammond black walnuts in Sam’s Club a few years ago and I was able satisfy my obsession again. Your right those walnuts have the hardest shell ever and cracking them is no joke 😂

I get mine from Session in Grand Bay , mobile Alabama,the fresh pecans has a light looking yellow from this year's crop,they were so good I have to buy more for my pie.
