    Definitely watching closely as the little '04 Pilot we picked up a couple weeks ago is definitely going to be going this direction. You're clearing the trail so that others can come along, and it's really cool to see the kinds of stuff you're trying and where you're going. Recovery gear is often at the top of the things that the more serious off-road folks cite as being important, and so what you find out with this winch will be helpful in figuring out just where the limits are for the Pilot platform. :)

      The Pilot rocked it on my trip trip to Uwharrie! I can’t wait to edit the footage! I didn’t even use the winch.

    • @GotterAdventure
      @GotterAdventure  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That would be awesome! At the very least you could use it in the rear of the vehicle.

    Very cool winch setup. Have you tested the configuration with the snatch ring under load?

    • @GotterAdventure
      @GotterAdventure  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I used the winch in Colorado to make it up a steep incline that may gearing couldn't overcome. It was a straight line pull and the winch did great. It wasn't fast, but it pulled me up. I love the fact I can use it front or rear, or on another vehicle.

    This is very cool. I wish you the best with a smaller winch. I think for obstacles you’ll be fine but if you get bogged down in some mud, the suction of the mud will make it extremely tough for that winch. I’ve seen 10k lbs winches struggle and be unsuccessful on Jeep’s, TJs to be exact. Which I’m guessing weigh less than your Pilot. What is your curb weight?

    • @GotterAdventure
      @GotterAdventure  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The Pilot weights 4500lbs. I have two snatch rings, so if I need to I can triple the capacity and pull my bumper off 🥲

      I have pulled many big vehicles and objects over the years with a 2500 lb winch. Portable is so much better. Hitch mount is great. Just practice using your pullys and set up. It seems like everyone likes to look of a front mounted winch, but it really limits you. Nice video.

    Love your videos. Just have one important question. Will that winch fit onto a 2000 Honda Crv RD1. I’m thinking of putting a winch onto my CRV just need to come up with ideas and safety issues. Thank you. Keep up the great videos

    • @GotterAdventure
      @GotterAdventure  ปีที่แล้ว

      It would work even better for a CRV. You would just need to find ways to mount it. You could start with a rear hitch receiver. Check out my custom front hitch mount video to see how I did it. My video this Thursday will have some winch action in it!

    I also use it pilot but I want to know if it is possible to get a winch that will not be outside bumper. Something hidden inside behind. An installation that will need the entire front face of the SUV to come off.

    • @GotterAdventure
      @GotterAdventure  ปีที่แล้ว

      It won't be possible to have it hidden and have enough reinforcement to support the winch. Check out my hidden hitch receiver video to see how much space you have to work with.

    Hey, off topic question here: You seem to be highly educated about all things Pilot related, are you aware of any way to soften up the suspension? I do so love my 2015 Pilot, but the ride is quite stiff compared to many other SUV's I have owned. My GMC Envoy XUT rode like a floating cloud. Loved that. Yet being a GMC it was a total POS overall and literally started falling apart before the 100k mark. 😑
    Bud dang did that thing ever ride smooth! I would like to have a soft compliant ride, but in a reliable Honda Pilot!
    Does disconnecting the sway bars help any?
    Thanks for any ideas / suggestions!

    • @GotterAdventure
      @GotterAdventure  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you are talking about a rough rid off road the best thing you can do is air down your tires. You could try buying a new set of KYB or Bilstein front struts, but that isn't guaranteed to help. Disconnecting the sway bars does smooth out the ride, but it is a bit of work and the swaybar can get in the way of the suspension if you don't suspend it out of the way.

      @@GotterAdventure I was mainly focussing on the on road ride comfort. It is not "horrible" (like the 2014 Lincoln MKX is!) otherwise I would not have bought it.
      I just wish it were better. Especially over these 8" diameter potholes that I can not seem to avoid, the umpteen manhole covers that either stick up 2" above or are sunken in 2" below the pavement. (They NEVER seem to get those at the right height!)
      And the piss poor interstate 40 going pretty much once you leave texas at the New Mexico border all the way to Flagstaff Arizona and back across, THAT is some wretched pavement! Tax dollars hard at lining a politician's pocket I guess 🤦‍♂️
      Thanks for the reply!

      @@coyote102076 bigger tires and less psi would help a lot at the expense of MPGs. Another option could be adding more weight to the vehicle LOL

    • @coyote102076
      @coyote102076 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GotterAdventure indeed. I have those stupid 18" wheels too. so less sidewall always = stiffer ride. If I could put on a 2" lift and swap out the 18's for 17's and run a set of P265/70R17 Kumho AT51's I am sure that alone would help some too. I am asking around if going to something like the KGB's you mentioned or perhaps a Monroe Sensa-trac shocks would be of any bennifit for the price. Not sure if they make Bilstein shocks for it, have not researched it, but those always rode great and what was on my Envoy that rode so smooth.
